ITunes: hopelessly broken?

I hope someone can help me out with this while I still have hair left to pull on.
After innocently installing iTunes 9.2 yesterday (as I considered updating my iPod Touch 3G to iOS4...), iTunes has essentially stopped working on my barely one-month old MBP. Simply put, it crashes whenever I click on the Apps tab, and now refuses to Sync up with my iPod. I have tried every potential fix I could find online--completely deleting and reinstalling iTunes, repairing disk permissions, launching iTunes in "Safe Mode", reinstalling OSX, creating a new User Account, running extensive checks on my RAM in Single User Mode, etc.--to no avail. Basically, the only thing I haven't tried is reformatting my boot disk and going through the painstaking process of setting up my computer from scratch again, which is something I would rather not do if I can avoid it. (Especially since the rest of my apps seem to be working fine.)
Oh yeah, here's a fun little tidbit: I have even reinstalled iTunes 9.1 (which formerly worked fine) and 9.0.3 and now even both of those older version of the program crash in exactly the same way. It's like iTunes simply refuses to let me access the Apps tab now. (All my Apps were legal and paid for, FWIW.)
Can somebody with a more logical mind than my own suggest how installing 9.2 could mess up my system to the point that it can no longer run previously working versions of iTunes? I'm completely baffled.
And regarding my OS, I'm still on 10.6.3 because the 10.6.4 update turned my computer into a beach ball factory.
After a month of owning this incredibly powerful machine, I am really starting to miss my PB G4 which was about 10% as fast but 10 times more stable. I'm really hoping this is just a bout of bad luck and not the shape of things to come for Apple operating systems...
Anyway, much obliged for your help.

UPDATE:
In a final act of desperation, I decided to try downloading and reinstalling all of the updates at once (i.e. 10.6.4, iTunes 9.2, Safari 5.0, etc.) and lo and behold, everything appears to be running smoothly again. iTunes crashes are gone (at least for now) and OSX seems to be stable and not generating any unwarranted beach balls.
Don't ask me why running these very updates caused my system to go haywire a week ago... Must be some of that "magic" Steve is always talking about

  • ITunes Match Broken After iOS 8 - Only downloads a few tracks, icons spin on every track in library

I have upgraded both my iPad Air and iPhone 6 to iOS 8.1, and iTunes Match is broken in two ways that make it unusable.
First, every single song on both devices (except those already downloaded to the device) has the "spinning wheel" icon as if I tried to download the song from the cloud... but I have not tapped Download on any tracks.  The iTunes Store "Downloads" list confirms that nothing at all is downloading.  If I tap one of those spinning wheels... it becomes a progress wheel and the track begins to download, and shows up in the iTunes Store's Downloads list.  So the icon for every track is just wrong, the little cloud-arrow replaced with a spinning (or sometimes stationary) wheel.
Second, and far more frustrating, is the "Download All" button at the top of a long playlist now downloads only the first 30-50 songs on that playlist.  After that it just does not try to download any others, confirmed again in the iTunes Store's Downloads list.  Every other song on my playlist has a stationary wheel icon (which is to say, not a spinning wheel but the same icon), and I have to tap every single one of those to get them to begin downloading.  I'm going on a long vacation with minimal internet service, I want to download a bunch of music onto my new iPad and iPhone, I have playlists that are thousands of tracks long... and now I have to tap every single song on every single one to download them for offline listening, which is just infuriating.
    Help!

Guess what!!!! I managed to fix it!
After much googling and experimenting - I can now download more than 25 songs in a playlist, and the songs don't get stuck with the red circle. The problem appeared to be, strangely, the syncing of folders of playlists in iTunes match.
    What I did
    - remove all music from phone and turn off Match
    - ensure music is available for syncing in iTunes on Mac (but ensure 0 songs are synced)
    - removed all folders from my playlists. Playlists do not reside in any folders anymore
    - update iTunes match manually from the Store menu
    - turn on match from iPhone, and download a playlist
That worked, remarkably. Some kind of buffering/caching issue when match tries to download from a playlist within a folder? How weird. Let me know if that works for you.

  • ITunes showing broken chain link image instead of feed or iTunes tag image.

URL for Podcast page in iTunes:
    http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=328268718
URL for Feedburner feed that iTunes is pointing to:
    http://feeds.feedburner.com/vntruecast
URL for original feed that Feedburner is pointing to:
    http://veracitynation.com/category/truecast/feed
URL for iTunes image tag href:
    http://veracitynation.files.wordpress.com/2010/01/vntc_aai.jpg
    Hello,
I am the owner of this podcast & I have been experiencing issues with trying to get iTunes to show my new site image. Originaly the feed was using a generic Wordpress image for the podcast's page and for the podcast's image in the store. Ever since I have changed images by first changing the feed image, the generic Wordprss image still shows for the podcast's store image and the podcast's page image changed to a large white background with a chain having a broken link in the middle of it.
I assumed that this meant the url for the new image was corrupt or something was wrong w/ the XML code, so I imediately switched back to the previous Wordpress image & configuration. This did not fix the problem, so I went in and then changed it back to the new one and tested the url for the feed image tag and the itunes image tag. Both urls for both tags bring all browsers to the image at that location. I then went ahead & started checking the XML code against all the validators out there, and the feed's code was passing all of them with NO mention of any issues regarding the image tags (this includes validation tests against the original feed at Wordpress.com). I know the feed is still working in iTunes because iTunes shows changes to other components to the feed like episode descriptions, new episodes & etc..
I also know that the image is fine, because I attached it to the ID3 tag for the most recent episode, (19), and the coverflow, plus the podcast thumnail view both show the image perfectly.
I have also compared my tags w/ the tags of other podcasters I know whose images are working properly in iTunes.
I feel I have done everything in my power to verify that all of my settings are configured correctly at this point. Unless there is something I have missed that you can point me too, can you please take a look at your end to see if there is anything corrupted in iTunes regarding my podcast that is preventing image updates to occur according to specs?
Please help as soon as possible because this issue has been occuring for the past 4 days with no end in sight. As a result of this issue, people who are seeing my podcast's page are going to be under the impression that it is broken and no longer working for them to subscribe to.
    Thanks for your time,

    Hi,
I'm having a similar or near problem with the service under:
    http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStoreServices.woa/
Actually, we are using the services for search and lookup, respectively:
    http://ax.phobos.apple.com.edgesuite.net/WebObjects/MZStoreServices.woa/wa/wsSea rch?
    http://ax.phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStoreServices.woa/wa/wsSearch?

    http://ax.phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStoreServices.woa/wa/wsLookup?id=
But, we didn't found any forum or other questin repository about the API.
Trancing the routes for DNS, the host and WebObjects server responds fine. But, the service package http://ax.phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStoreServices.woa/* is so much instable. Sometimes, this responds normally, but often it's not working well.
The problem was detected in Feb 4, but maybe its started in Feb 3.
Can anybody help me or can redirect me for the correct forum to discuss this issue?
Thanks a lot for this forum entry,

  • Connect iPhone to iTunes with broken display screen

My iPhone has a broken display screen and I can't connect with my iTunes because it says I have to log into my phone.  I can't log into my phone because it is not working.  I tried pressing the home button and then acting out the motions of entering my password, but nothing is happening.  I have my replacement phone and I'm trying to reset my broken phone, but I can''t do that until I log into iTunes.  If someone can advise me on what to do, it will be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.  By the way, I am doing this on a PC computer.

Try putting the phone in DFU mode and then doing the restore. This article should help.

  • Itunes icon broken or dotted circle

    Hello,
There is a broken or dotted circle next to most songs on my ipad. This occurs when I plug my ipad 4 into my laptop and start itunes on the laptop.
The song won't play at all.
Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

I have this problem since i updated from ios 7 to ios 8. This problem started last year when ios 8 was released. It's possible that apple is trying to force users to buy music on iTunes store and that's why it's impossible to sync other music and also that's the reason why they haven't solved this serious problem. That's really disappoints me and i'm angry with apple because i have like 10 gb of music in mp3 and i can't sync music from iTunes to my iPhone.

  • IMacIntel migration problem: iTunes library broken

I recently upgraded my 500mHz TiBook to a shiny white 17" iMac. Overall it has gone smoothly, except for iTunes. My TiBook had a hard drive condition that precluded a direct transfer, so I had to clear a partition on an FW drive and use SilverKeeper to put the data from my TiBook on a clean drive. In the process I moved my iTunes library, which was on that drive, to a subdirectory on another FW drive. Now my library is broken. It does show all of the songs, but there is an exclamation point before the name and upon clicking on one I'm prompted to find it.
Again, ALL THE SONGS IN MY LIBRARY ARE DISPLAYED IN iTUNES, so it's unfortunately not just a matter of reimporting the XML file. (I've tried that.) Also, the library is now broken on the TiBook, too. (If this post needs to be moved to the iTunes section, sorry about that.)
Is there a solution to get iTunes to find all my songs? I'd hate to lose my playlists and sync preferences for my iPods. As I have just under 17,000 songs in my library I'm not going to manually point it to each one, either....

Just for the record, should anyone else have this problem here's how I fixed it.
    1) I exported all of my playlists to XML files.
    2) I deleted my iTunes library.
    3) I reimported all my songs.
    4) I reimported all my playlists.
All things considered, it didn't take too much time to fix - gotta love the speed of that SATA hard drive! - and the only downsides are that I lost info from the "Date Added" and "Play Count".

  • ITunes Match Broken stuck in Loop

iTunes Match no longer works. It seems stuck in an loop cycle of checking and uploading my tradks. Never had this problem before the latest iTunes update.

I found this to be an "unofficial" ISP problem.  I use WOW/Knology and I read of this happening with Comcast (surprise!  surprise!).  Evidently, the iTunes Match transfer was using too much bandwidth and WOW clamped down on this.
My iTunes Match was in an endless loop.  Following all the instructions that I found about this in the support area did not resolved the issue.  I did find two answers claiming to resolve this issue.  Both mentioned "port throttling"--that is, limiting the upload speed on a specific port (https--443) or a variety of ports.  I tried the easiest and throttled port 433 to 128K max and reran iTunes Match.  It complete parts 1 and 2 easily.  iTunes Match is working on part 3 currently.  Slowly but surely--has has been working steadily for 16-18 hours now (my iTunes library is ~85GB).  (The transfer listed each file as it is being transferred.  It is interesting to see the transfer penalty of never throwing "anything" away.)
There are several port-throttling programs for the Mac.  " Entonnoir " was the one recommended and the one I am using.  It is a free download --the publisher does ask for a donation.

  • Someone help me! my iTunes is broken and I cam't fix it

Almost every album I download several tracks do not download fully and just cut off in the middle of the track. Now, most of the time, these tracks are available individually so re-downloading them is free. However, as usual, it has happened with a couple of tracks that aren;t individually available on two compilations I bought this week. The itunes store sent me those compilations in my account again but, funnily, after each track downloaded (for the second time) it disappeared from both my library and the entire computer! I'm getting very frustrated with this. It's been going on for months: in that time, I have had a new internal hard drive inserted into my computer and am using a different internet connection! I have un-installed and re-installed iTunes as requested by the iTunes store and STILL the problem persists. Does anyone have any clue what's wrong? I've come to expect better from Apple! I had to download the same compilation album THREE times this week because one of the mixes on it didn't download fully! I've updated to the latest version of itunes and everything else I was asked to do. This is REALLY annoying me now. PLEASE can someone shed some light on the problem? I'm using British iTunes of that helps
    Lewis

Another thing...after having downloaded aforementionedcompilation album for the third time I noticed that most of the tracks had fully downloaded! HOWEVER I couldn't check to see if the second full length mix had been downloaded because it told me my account was bot authorised to play it! Signing out and in again didn't make a difference either! What's up with that?

  • BUG?  Music Player in iTunes is broken after update to 10.5

I updated to iTunes 10.5.0.142 so that I could load the new ios on my iPad.  My music player worked flawlessly prior to the update, but now every single song in my library plays distorted.  Most songs are mp3's that I've ripped myself so I can play these on other players and verify it's not the audio file.  Every song playing through iTunes sounds like static, heavy synth, and cymbals.  I can tell it's the song I'm selecting, but it just doesn't sound right - maybe like you're listening to it on an FM radio channel and you're 2 clicks way (trying to listen to 94.7 FM on 94.9 FM, for example).
I attempted to resolve by first "repairing" iTunes and then i uninstalled/reinstalled; nothing has worked.  I tried getting Support from Apple but it wants me to pay for an issue with the "free" software...no thanks.  Thankfully my hardware is working fine, albeit the iPad 1 is noticably SLOWER after this update.
Mp3s played through Windows Media, Spotify, or HP Play (for my Touchpad) are all good - just not iTunes.  Is anyone else experiencing these issues using the iTunes music player?  This seems like a serious software bug.  Absolutely nothing changed on my computer except for the version of iTunes.

I updated to 10.5.0.142 the day before yesterday when prompted but already had iTunes open, chose not to reboot my PC (as requested) but shut it down at the end of the day.  Yesterday when I did boot up the PC and try to go into iTunes it just kept crashing  - I got some sort of APPCRASH dialogue) before it could even open it!  I tried rebooting again but got no further.
Then I deleted iTunes out of my programs and tried a reinstall, but STILL it kept crashing.  So I then deleted it again and this time downloaded 10.4.1 from this link http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1427 (bottom of the page).  All is now rosy again   It did tell me that there is a newer version of iTunes as soon as i went in but obviously I ignored this and turned off the prompt I won't be upgrading for a few months or at least untill I hear that all is in working order.
Don't expect this sort of thing from Apple (and I hear that there are proplems with the latest iPhone OS upgrade).

    3. If no response to above, there is a major hardware problem that needs warranty evaluation by Apple or an Apple authorized service provider.
