ITunes ignoring system file association in podcasts

I have a podcast that pulls down .pdf files along with the podcasts.
When I open the .pdf via iTunes, it tries to use Adobe Acrobat program, even though I have .pdf set to open with Adobe Acrobat READER instead.
If I go to my podcast directory in my iTunes library and open the file it opens correctly. So somehow iTunes is opening the file via the Full Acrobat on it's own, ignoring the file associations I have set in Windows.
I can't find any where to control the settings for this.
Anyone able to help me sort this out?

It is a problem with files association.

You can drag file directly to iTunes and they should be play fine in iTunes too.

  • ITunes behaving strange file association

I am using the most current version of iTunes (10.2.1.1) and it's behaving very strangely.
I am trying to load some new song files, but windows is asking for me to select a program to associate the file to it (.mp4).  ITunes should already be the default player for .mp3/4 files, but it is not even listed as an option on the selection menu.  I click browse and guide it to the itunes.exe, and yet when I click on the file, it trys to open in ADOBE.  This makes absolutely no sense, and I have no idea why or how this started happening, but the short of it is, I can't load new songs into my Itunes until it's resolved.

  • Itunes ignores library file

I don't think this problem is caused by itunes, rather by some OS X system/memory problem.
Anyway, I have itunes on the powerbook G4 (OS X 10.5.4) but all my music is kept on an external HD, so my route folder is specified in itunes pref as G//.....itunes/itunes music. My itunes library file sits on the G4 in the correct place i.e. mac/username/music/itunes etc.
This has been working fine, I add a CD, it copies the files to the external HD and the library is updated with the file info for that artist.
Then, out of the blue, every time I open itunes it won't read the library file, even if I copy an older version into the proper location, it still ignores it meaning I have to copy the files back into itunes so that it creates a new library file. What's more, most times (but not always), the itunes pref go back to default settings and ignore that I had specified the G drive as the location of the music files.
Been round this loop 8 times today, kinda fed up...lol. Is this itunes 8 problem or more likely a system problem - I just ran applejack to clear out the system.

Sorted, issue due to my system user id becoming totally messed up. Creating a new admin user sorted out all the issues.

  • System file associations - cannot select Bridge.

Since I upgraded to CS6 last year, I can't seem to change my file type associations to point image files to open in Bridge, and it's driving me crazy. On a Windows computer, I right-click and select "open with", then browse and choose Bridge.exe, but for some reason the selection doesn't persist, and I'm back to whatever was originally assigned for that file type.
This started happening when I uninstalled Adobe CS4 on my system. I have a feeling in the registry the path is still pointing to the old folders that are no longer there, (or something like that) but I don't know how to fix. I thought upgrading to CC would fix it, but it didn't.
I would appreciate if anybody has any ideas.
    Thanks,
    -Onur

It was really convenient being able to launch it from within a folder full of images, instead of starting it generically, then browsing to that folder. With me so far?
I'm with you so far but don't agree about being convenient
Never used Bridge this way because Bridge is the first application I start and it is the central place for my work as photographer. On a Mac I tried what you always did, in Finder choose info for a selected DNG file and set Bridge as application to open it in.
It accepted this and double click on it did start Bridge. However my problem is that I always use stacks to organize my files in the content panel for a better oversight. The dng file I selected in Finder was part of such a stack and opening it the way your would like to use works but did unstack al my files in the content panel.
There is a longstanding problem with stacks ungroup them selves every now and then so I don't know it was a coincidence but I'm not giving it an other try…
As said many times before, so many users so many workflows.
Using Bridge CC on a Mac with OSX10.8.4 I still have the ability to select Bridge as default application to open a file in. I have no reason to believe this should be exclusive for Mac so the problem is likely to be found on your side I'm afraid
Don't know anything relevant about Windows, for a Mac you could try to repair permissions, try an other users etc but that is no help to you at this moment.

  • How to prevent iTunes from hijacking file associations ...?

    hi Folks,
I receive phone voicemail messages as WAV files as email attachments.  On my iMac, running Snow Leopard, these WAV files appear as handy little "player" icons in the body of my email, so I just click the "play" arrow to listen to them,
However on my Macbook Pro, 10.7.5, the email contains a tiny square WAV thumbnail, and - annoyingly - Itunes opens every time I click on it, even though I've delegated Quicktime player to open the files in the OPEN WITH > OTHER dialogue.
Is there any way to prevent this from happening, or better still, to have the WAV appear as a "player" as it does in Snow Leopard's MAIL program?
    thanks ....

this happens on my iMac running 10.6.8, as well.
I try to open a WAV or AIFF or MP3, simply to LISTEN TO IT, and ITUNES opens up and adds it, without permission to its growing "library" of crap that I don't want in it.
I 've tried the "open with" dialogue in FINDER, assigning Quicktime Player as the new default "OPENER" for these sound files, and 5 seconds later, iTunes grabs it again.
What's up with this?  Why is such a simple no-brainer so absolutely frustrating?  Do I have to become a computer programmer to fix this?

  • File Association Settings Ignored

    Hello.
I'm afraid I'm not too happy about this problem. I've been using iTunes recently as my media player. I do quite like iTunes, however, I'm not too happy that QuickTime must be installed in order for it to function.
Since installing iTunes/QuickTime, my file association preferences for online audio files have been ignored. When I click a link to an MP3 file online, I still want Firefox to prompt me to either open the file in Windows Media Player or save it to my computer. However, clicking the link simply loads a new tab in which QuickTime attempts to play the file.
Windows Media Player is set as my default player for MP3 files. QuickTime is set NOT to play MP3 files in both the "File Types" tab and the "MIME Types" window on the "Browser" tab of the plugin.
I have been trying to fix this problem for days and I am sick and tired of it. Searching around the web, I've found many people who seem to have the same problem as I do, although I'm yet to find any kind of working solution. I'm hoping someone here can provide me with a working solution, otherwise I will have no alternative other than to uninstall both QuickTime and iTunes.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Try this, right click on a MP3 that you have on the HD and go to properties. Next to Opens with: click on Change and select another player to handle them. Also go to the settings of Firefox,-tools>options>downloads>plug-ins to see what is enabled in there to handle MP3's

  • Why is Itunes cluttering my music folder with system files?

Ok i was using windows 7 before this and it was fine. Then i reformatted my drive and put windows 7 again. Downloaded latest itunes v9 and installed. Copied my entire music library backed up on my external hd and copied it to the music folder under the libraries section. In windows 7 the "my music" folder under user>documents and settings is actually the same as the "music" folder in the libraries on your pc. The music folder in libraries simply can compose of multiple folder so it simply displays all the contents of the "my music" folder and can also include other folders.
Anyhow itunes screw up indexing my library but thats a whole problem of another sort. The main issue is that after it sees my music library and after I have downloaded something it does this. http://img169.imageshack.us/i/65030372.jpg/
In that link as you can see in music under libraries it just leaves all those system and downloaded files. There actually ends up being hundreds after it gets album/song artwork since each artwork picture comes up as a ict2 file.
However if i go to the my music folder in documents and settings it neatly tucks away all those files into their respective folder in itunes media or artworkd, despite the few core library files. http://img223.imageshack.us/img223/5956/55950795.jpg
AT the moment i have deleted all the music in my library. Deleting those system files simply makes itunes no longer see an library. I have tried reinstalling with no avail. Why is it putting everything in folder in my music but not doing the same in music-libraries which is the same identical folder.

This is just a thought, because I've not played with Windows 7, but near the top of your 1st image it says *Music Library, Includes 2 Locations*. I think you're looking at a view there which will display the contents of all possible music storage locations and the contents all of their subfolders, i.e. like a search result box. The other image corrsponds to a regular folder layout. iTunes stores an Album Artwork folder inside the main iTunes folder along with it's main database and a number of other supporting files. These files are required for iTunes to work so you can't just delete them. If you want to look at your media folders the use Windows Explorer to look inside *iTunes\iTunes Media*.

The 2131 usually indicates firmware needs to be updated on a drive.
Head to your drivers and downloads page for your latitude at Dell, and check for updates to your firmware for your optical drives. If you're behind and you update, does that clear up the 2131?

How can I STOP iTunes from automatically trying to add podcasts to my iPod when I plug it in and sync it, so I can manage the files? I have already unchecked "Sync Podcasts" and "Automatically include,"yet EVERY time I sync it,it still transfers podcasts as the last step, and at other times randomly, when trying to just add some MP3's to a playlist, for example.  I can't seem to find any other option to uncheck, and can't find an answer from my so-far internet searching.

erict, you blew me away with that suggestion! It was something so simple I couldnt believe I hadnt thought of it! But in the end it didn't work, which I was really surprised about. On Windows anytime anything was moved itunes was hoplessly lost, but on this mac it still kept up with everything. I tried renaming folders, moving folders, and even renaming moved folders but it still kept trying to import.
I even went as far as deleting EVERYTHING i had moved to the Mac, which didnt really work. It still kept trying to import what wasnt there which made it continue to freeze up. However, after doing this it, the freezing was not nearly as bad. It gave me enough of a break to cancel it through the itunes dialog box at the top of the app. So in the end, thats all I really needed to do, only before I had deleted everything the freezing would not allow me to do it.
So now Im reimporting everything again, only slowly, and only a few Artists at a time.

  • Do I need to use a website to submit my S3 files as a podcast on iTunes?

I have never submitted a podcast to iTunes, but after a few hours of research I understand that in order to do so I need a media host, such as S3, and a website to publish the file on and use as a feed for iTunes. I have my complete audio files on S3 and I am curious wether it is actually necessary to put files on a website such as wordpress, or if I can just create a simple RSS using Text Edit and use that with S3 and submit that feed to iTunes. If I do need to use a site like Wordpress, do my posts need to be publicly viewable?  I guess I don't understand what the function of wordpress is other than just a relatively easy way to provide the file and metadata to iTunes. I hope I was clear enough. Any help would be much appreciated.

You need an FTP program such as CyberDuck or Transmit to upload your feed file to the server. Once that is done you should subscribe to it in iTunes (from the File menu in v11 or the Advanced menu in earlier versions) to make sure that it works.
If it doesn't, post back here with the URL of the feed. If it does you can submit it as described in my page:

  • How to change a startup file association (Connecting doesn't start ITunes)

I made an error and associated my iPod's connection with my printer control panel. So when I plug in my iPod ... my printer control panel comes up. I'd like to have it bring up ITunes. Does anybody know how I can change the file association so Itunes comes up when I plug in my IPod? Thank you.

I am answering myself here. I fixed the problem. I went to the folder under program files that held the (Brother) exe file. I zipped the entire folder, then removed the [Brother] file. I turned off ITunes and unplugged the IPod, then plugged the ipod in again. It went right to ITunes. I then "extracted" the [Brother] file to its original location. Tried it again, and the IPod was still associated with Itunes.

  • ITunes.exe - System error / corrupt file

I purchased an iPod nano about a month ago. Since then about every week my entire iPod content is erased while i transfer music to iTunes. All of a sudden it disconnects and says "iTunes.exe - System error / Corrupt file". Each time this happens I need to restore my iPod, which does not help either. I have the latest iTunes version and I downloaded the iPod updater, however none of them make a difference in the situation. I would really like to know whether this can be solved or I need to return the device to the store.

  • ITunes upgrade - now forces mp3 file association to itunes

Older versions of iTunes would allow me to keep .mp3 file association pointing to winamp, but the latest version of itunes "steals" the mp3 file association back everytime it starts up. Winamp has a "reset file association at startup" checkbox in it's preferences, but I can't find anything like that in itunes. Am I missing something, or is there some other way to get iTunes to not steal this file association whenever it starts. Or is there a way to uninstall this latest upgrade?

Find one of your MP3 files in Windows Explorer and right click on it and select Open with>>Choose Program.
On this dialogue, tick "Always use selected brogram to open this kind of file", then select Winamp and click OK.
