Itunes imac nas (synology)

My itunes on the imac (10.7.3 Mac OS X) cannot or sees no longer the NAS. So i cannot import movies and files from the NAS through Imac to the Ipad. On the windows computer i have no problems. Does anybody recognize this problem? What to do?

Any ideas, anyone, on this mystery
This morning I was playing some music from my iphone through the car hifi. The next track came up on the display as Blur-Beetlebum but it was a movie playing , which I have not identified yet!
I thinking of getting rid of itunes and trying to get another music player , which is a shame as I have been using iTunes from when it used to be called SoundJam about 12 years or more ago
Come on guys, someone must have an idea...
Thanks in advance

Try designating a System Photo Library. Then your apps will use that.

  • My Itunes can't see my music on my NAS /synology

My Itunes 10.1 cant see my music on my NAS. For a period it could only see videos on my nas and n o music, but now the NAS is completely gone. The NAS is functioning quite well on other platforms - but not the new version of Itunes.
Ahat is the problem and what can I do ?

Thanks for the clarification of check vs click. I guess once I saw the word "double" I stopped reading. I ended up "reloading" the drive to itunes. The interesting thing is that itunes isn't setting the location for the external drive. It is set for a folder under "my music" The actual songs aren't there, but the folders are there. When i put my external drive music to a new itunes library, i did so without copying the songs. So about 100 gig of music is in a folder that is really only about 300mb. I noticed before i restarted that the location was this folder. When i opened it, it was empty. After redoing everthing all of the songs are on the folder. I probably should have just changed it to go to the external drive like you suggested. Just for fun i changed the location to the external and bypassed that small folder. It worked great. It only took about 2 minutes to update, and it works great. I thought i had to use that stupid little folder. Thanks for all of your help!!

  • Transfer itunes to NAS

    Hi
I want to transfer my itunes library from my iMac to a NAS drive that sits on my network.
I can see how to set up the location in iTuines Preferences, and I can see that under File > Library > Export library I can export the xml file, but but can someone tell me the best way to move all the music to the NAS drive - is there a sxpecial process?
    Thanks
    Alex

    Quit iTunes.
Copy the entire /Music/iTunes/ folder from your computer to the NAS.
To use this library with iTunes, hold Option, launch iTunes on your Mac select Choose library... and select the iTunes folder on the external.
You can delete the /Music/iTunes/ folder on the internal.

  • ITunes + iMac G5 + Leopard = hangs all the time

I've a iMac G5 with 1,5GB RAM running since 2 years fine with Tiger.
I use a NAS as data storage and Wlan. With the iMac G5 and my Macbooks (one with Leopard 10.5.1 + one with Tiger 10.4.11) i have had never problems at all.
After a clean install to Leopard 10.5.1 i have heavy problems with iTunes on my iMac G5. After starting iTunes the program needs appr. 50s-100s to start playing a song. During that time iTunes shows a beachball.
I deleted and installed iTunes again but receive the same results.

  • Best way to store iTunes on NAS

    Hi Guys,
I have just put a 256GB SSD in my iMac and I was looking to put my iTunes library on my 2TB NAS drive. Can somebody please advise the best way to do this.
Is it just a case of changing the iTunes media folder location within the preferences once I have copied the iTunes media folder to the NAS.
Also what is the best practise for downloding items from the iTunes store. WIll they automatically download to the NAS?
    Any advice is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Lee

I found this on Tuneranger page even though the site for the app creator seems dead
Q: The ratings, playcounts, etc. from my iPod won't copy over to my iTunes when using TuneRanger.
A: TuneRanger only supports syncing of iTunes metadata (tags not part of the music files such as ratings, playcount, etc) when doing an iTunes to iTunes sync over a network. We don't support syncing metadata to/from the iPod. All the tag info embedded in the files is transferred but those fields proprietary to iTunes are not.
Does anyone know how to sync BPM and Comments when iCloud is NOT an option? (I don't have internet when I am dj'ing nor would I want to depend on access from the server in a pro situation)

  • Using iTunes with NAS

I have all my music and itunes files (iTunes Library.itl, etc) on a NAS. I have an iMac and a MacBook. If I point each to the library on the NAS should I be able to use them both with the same library without corrupting any files?  Eventually I want to use my MacBook exclusively for iTunes but I'm unable to do that for a while. Thanks in advance for any advice/suggetions.

This topic was recently discussed on this forum.  I am of the opinion it won't have any ill effect on the files, but no direct experience.  Another responder was concerned about file corruption, but didn't provide reasoning.
The one major problem you likely will have is the library file cannot be opened by two copies of iTunes at the same time. You will have to ensure that when using iTunes on one computer you quit the application before using it on the other. The way to avoid this is for each computer to have its own library file but the media are stored and shared on the NAS.  Unless two people are trying to edit the tags on the same media file at the same time there shouldn't be any conflict. The disadvantage is you have ot keep both libraries up to date.  As you can see, some of the best response lie in the detail of the setup and users which you haven't told us.  If you are the only user of both computers you can make it work with a single library file which will always be up to date when opened on either computer.  If it is two users then each will probably want their own library anyway and you should set it up that way.  Of course media changes will have to be applied separately to each library.

  • Nas (Synology DS413j) and Aperture

Hello, I'd like to know something more about Aperture, please. In a few days I'll own a beautiful Nas, in order to give more storage to my iMac (and Time Capsule). I'd also like to move from iPhoto to Aperture. Should it be possible to have multiple Aperture libraries on the NAS?
    Thank you for your attention.

I have a Synology DiskStation DS413 running DSM 4.1-2668 sharing and mounted by Mountain Lion thru 1G switch network. I did a simple test as below, and it works fine.
(My photos in this testing aperture project already point to the same DSM mounted disk.)
    1. Copy (rsync -av) local Aperture project to the DSM shared networked disk.
    2. Open Aperture, File -> Switch to Library -> choose project on the DSM mounted folder.
    3. Press 'N'  to use face detection and add names on some pictures.
    4. Close project which opened from DSM mounted folder.
    5. Rsync -av "DSM aperture project folder" "My MBP local disk (~/Pictures/)"
    6. Open Aperture, File -> Switch to Library -> choose project on my local disk (~/Pictures/).
    7. Check the face name I just added, and those pictures still have names I just added.
It seems that the Aperture handle the project library based on file level and xml definiation, so that it , perhaps, still works. But I DONOT promise putting Aperture project file on mounted NAS disk has no problem at all, although Apple says that it won't work.
Of course, networked project solution is a little bit slow than local disk when I do the previewing photos and saving project. But if You have a MBP, a iMac and a NAS at your home, putting aperture library and photos in mounted NAS could be great when you want to edit your photos in both MBP and iMac.

  • Importing to itunes (iMac) from Macbook

Relevant hardware: desktop-iMac G5, PowerPC processor, OS 10.4.2; MacBook, 2GHz Intel processor, OS 10.4.8
    Relevant software: Desktop-iTunes 7.0.2, MacBook-iTunes 7.0.2
Issue: Problem transferring music files from MacBook to iMac
Description: Trying to transfer music files from MacBook to iMac. Some files will transfer, others will not. Error message (in the files that won't transfer) says no permission to write, however, when I check ownership and permissions on both MacBook and iMac, everything (owner, group, others) is set to read and write. Preferences for iTunes on both iMac and Macbook identical. This only "no permission to write" applies only to some files, not all. Both affected and unaffected files were imported from my own cd's, not purchased from iTunes.
Attempted solutions: Tried using "import" and "add to library" command from drop down menu using individual files. Tried clicking and dragging individual files from folders into iTunes itself. Tried placing folders into itunes Music folder. Tried placing iTunes Library into iTunes Music folder.
    Any other suggestions? Please help

  • Problem with Itunes and NAS after installing latest version of Itunes

After installing the latest version of Itunes on my new PC (Windows 7 Ultimate) I have problems seeing the music off the Itunes server on my NAS.
I see the name of the NAS under tab SHARED (GEDEELD in dutch), but when I click on it,  Itunes is making connection with the NAS but I see the music for less then a second.
Then the display goes back to the tab LIBRARY.
I've searched the web for this problem, checked on my firewall,... nothing to find.  On another windows 7 PC, it is still working fine but this is an older version of Itunes.
So what can be the problem ?

No, I had not uninstalled it, I didn't realize I had ever installed it.  I don't use it at all, never have.  I uninstalled the MobileMe Control Panel then restarted my computer for good measure, and that appears to have resolved the issue!  Thanks very much for your help!

  • Itunes on NAS and accessed on 2 laptops

    Hi All
This is my first post...so please excuse any mistakes
    I have a NAS ... (Dlink DNS 320 Sharecenter)
I have copied some of my CD's to this NAS, and renamed all the files and all is well
There is 2 people (myself and my wife) who have 2 different Ipods.
Both of us are using Windows 7 laptops...
Each of us has our own Apple account, and as such, have the different Itunes and music tastes/playlists
Please help me...as I want to know....
The best way to configure Itunes on both laptops (hers and mine) that will allow us to have access to the NAS music, and also be able to add our own purchases to our own laptops only. (I really don't want alot of her music...and she not mine)
I do want the NAS folder to be self updating into Itunes (on both laptops)... as I am still copying the last 20 odd CD's into the NAS and then want the ability to automatically have the added NAS music/folders update in Itunes
I know that this music will not be available on the laptops when travelling...but this is not an issue, as we both have our own ipods.
This would simply be to manage playlists...add new music....delete old songs from the ipods...etc etc
    Anyone help please?

Surely someone knows how to do this?

  • Can I watch a rented movie from Itunes (iMac) on my Apple TV 3 without airplay and home sharing?

I recently download a rented movie from itunes store in my iMac. My question is, if I can watch my rented movie in my apple tv without Airplay or Home sharing? The reason is because I don't want to turn on my iMac every time that I want to watch a movie.
    Thanks!

If you rented the movie from Apple TV, then you can't watch it on the iPad.  The screenshot below is from Here

  • Setting up multiple users / computers with 1 itunes on NAS

    Hi all,
Sorry in advance is this question has already been asked, there is so much stuff floating around on the forum that it would take for ever to surf thru it all.
I recently purchased a Buffalo NAS with itunes server on it.
I'm currently in the process of copying all music folders from local Disk to NAS - some purchases from iTunes, some from my own CD collection.
I will be reinstalling windows on my Desktop PC.
What i want to achive is
    1. A fresh start in iTunes (no ratings, no play counts etc), i will be rebuilding my PC soon so i guess this bit is easily achieved - install iTunes and point to the NAS.
    2. Then install iTunes on a 2nd computer, and when I play a song or rate a song from either computer, ensure that the information is visible from the other computer. (Basically if i rate a song on computer 2, and then log onto computer 1 at a different time, the rating made from computer 2 is visible).
    3. Have the same playlists duplicated on computer 1 and computer 2.
    4. Setup a 2nd user on the 2 computers (Family member) to access the same music folders / files as myself, so that they can rate the music according to their taste without changing the rating I've already made,
Finally, we both have our own itouch players, and want to be able to sync independently using the above.
Thanks a million in advance to anyone who knows the answer to this hopefully easy problem.
