ITunes, iMovie authorization

Hi,
Any help appreciated in advance.
I can play everything in my iTunes library, but when I want to add those songs to a movie in iMovie, iMovie claims my mac isn't authorized to play them. It then gives me the name of the account and a chance to authorize it. However the account is one I haven't used for years and even Apple has no record of it.
Does anyone know how to get these songs to play in iMovie? I've tried authorizing and de-authorizing my mac but it doesn't change anything. I've tried the Apple tips in in iTunes Help under, "iTunes repeatedly prompts to authorize computer to play iTunes Store purchases", but it's no go.
Thanks

Thanks Beverly,
I'm using iMovie HD and whatever is the newest iTunes. I haven't heard of an iTunes Plus unless they mean that iTunes is selling more unprotected versions of songs now.
I never used to run into this problem either, I think it's happening now because I moved to a new Mac from a G5 Quad or because I've moved my iTunes library around quite a bit since then.
Oddly, or perhaps not, I think the latest iMovie will use those songs ok. I say I think because I just get too aggravated with the later versions to learn to see if it will or not. I guess I should get over that though and learn more about how to use the latest ones, if just to see that they can.
That is a nifty app. Costly, but nifty. I downloaded the demo though and I'll give it a whirl and see if it's something I'd like to have.
Do you have multiple email accounts associated with with your various songs? That seems to be the problem here. The songs are associated with a dead account more than 5 years old that I can't even seem to come close to remembering it's password. And working with the iTunes support staff, though they've tried, they've been no help there.
Just for a visual, I keep feeling if I came up with the password for this when it asks me, my problems would go away. But I can't remember it. So I thank you for all your suggestions today.

  • IDVD is requiring iTunes to authorize songs individually?!?

Took a 5 week trip out West and finally putting together a slideshow. Everytime iDvd comes to a iTunes purchased song, it says this computer isn't authorized to play this song, click and open iTunes to authorize. So I've been doing this with every single purchased song!! My number of authorized machines is not increasing, thank goodness! But, it is pausing iDvd every time. Going on 12 hours now to encode the project (8 slideshows within the project.
Has anyone else encounter this? Is there a simple solution? I authorized iTunes within iTunes, in case the request somehow wasn't fully applying to iTunes, but that didn't seem to have any affect. I plan to run a permissions fix after the DVD is finished, don't want to risk upsetting anything now!
    Thanks!

That's interesting! When my project finally finished after I made the first post, I put the DVD in a player and had no sound where the purchased songs were suppose to be, but I did have the music that I had imported from CD at some time or another, and the songs from freeplaymusic.com. Leopard can't come out soon enough (and iLife 07/08), I'm guessing some overlooked incompatibility with iDVD 4 and iTunes 7.
    Anyone else experiece this???
I'd rather not have to reimport all the songs I want to use in slideshows, and I'm also wondering now if there will be issues using iMovie 4 and purchased music when I go to burn. I hope not, this is why I did NOT buy a Windows machine, so I wouldn't have incompatibility issues!!

  • Snow Leopard 10.6.3 and iLife '11 causes sound problems in iTunes, iMovie, and Mail

After updating my OS to Snow Leopard 10.6.3 and installing iLife '11, the sound in iTunes, iMovie, and Mail does not work.  The sound in other programs like Skype does work, though. Any ideas?

You should run software update. The current version os SL is 10.6.8, several bugs were squashed and improvements made.

  • Can't get iTunes to authorize on my new 24" iMac!

I have a load of purchased music which is now useless to me and money down the rat-hole! I have tried all day to get iTunes to authorize my new computer and it sits there with the progress bar animated for over an hour with no progress. Once in awhile I get an alert saying that the network connection has been lost (it hasn't been lost at all!) I can log into the iTunes store, but I still can't get authorization.
    Any solution to this?

  • Does apple iTunes pre authorize your debit card when trying to download a free application?

Does apple iTunes pre authorize your debit card when trying to download a free application?

This has been a constant gripe of mine. No, Apple doesn't pre-authorise for free apps, but your account must be "ok" to download a free app.
I use a pre-paid debit card for all my online purchases, simply to ensure nobody gets more than they're entitled to. But the only issue I've ever had is with Apple's pre-authorisation. Generally when purchasing an app, I'll check the balance on my card first to ensure I've enough. But inevitably Apple will pre-authorise €1.98. This sometimes has the effect of setting the debit card account into the red when Apple attempts to take the amount for the app. So I'm left with an app I haven't paid for (no issue there) and 2 unpaids on the card. The problem is that when my kids come to me looking for yet another free app, I can't download because my Apple account is not in order. A real pain.
The solution though is simple. Set up another account without a card and use that to download free apps until such time as I'm ready to put money on the debit card and sort out the account.
Basically, Apple shoots itself in the foot with constant pre-authorisations.
I've been onto support several times about this, but they seem to give stock answers tha don't address the issue. Oh we'll.

For information about the Other category in the Storage display, see this support article. If the Storage display seems to be inaccurate, try rebuilding the Spotlight index.
Empty the Trash if you haven't already done so. If you use iPhoto, empty its internal Trash first:
    iPhoto ▹ Empty Trash
Do the same in other applications, such as Aperture, that have an internal Trash feature. Then restart the computer. That will temporarily free up some space.
According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation. You also need enough space left over to allow for growth of the data. There is little or no performance advantage to having more available space than the minimum Apple recommends. Available storage space that you'll never use is wasted space.
When Time Machine backs up a portable Mac, some of the free space will be used to make local snapshots, which are backup copies of recently deleted files. The space occupied by local snapshots is reported as available by the Finder, and should be considered as such. In the Storage display of System Information, local snapshots are shown as  Backups. The snapshots are automatically deleted when they expire or when free space falls below a certain level. You ordinarily don't need to, and should not, delete local snapshots yourself. If you followed bad advice to disable local snapshots by running a shell command, you may have ended up with a lot of data in the Other category. Ask for instructions in that case.
See this support article for some simple ways to free up storage space.
You can more effectively use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) or GrandPerspective (GP) to explore the volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can also delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one. Note that ODS only works with OS X 10.8 or later. If you're running an older OS version, use GP.
Deleting files inside an iPhoto or Aperture library will corrupt the library. Any changes to a photo library must be made from within the application that created it. The same goes for Mail files.
Proceed further only if the problem isn't solved by the above steps.
ODS or GP can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
    Back up all data now.
If you have more than one user account, make sure you're logged in as an administrator. The administrator account is the one that was created automatically when you first set up the computer.
Install the app you downloaded in the Applications folder as usual. Quit it if it's running.
Triple-click anywhere in the corresponding line of text below on this page to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper
    sudo /Applications/GrandPerspective.app/Contents/MacOS/GrandPerspective
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V. You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The application window will open, eventually showing all files in all folders, sorted by size. It may take a few minutes for the app to finish scanning.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means. When in doubt, leave it alone or ask for guidance.
When you're done with the app, quit it and also quit Terminal.

iTunes asking authorization for installing app

What are you trying to install the app on, and what exactly happens ? Apps that you download from the iTunes store can only be installed on an iPhone, iPod Touch and/or iPad.
If you mean that you are being asked to authorise your account on your computer's iTunes then you do so via the Store > Authorise This Computer menu option
Or do you mean something else ?

  • Cant access menu bar on iTunes to authorize new mac

I tried pressing ALT like I saw on another forum, but it didn't do anything.

    That is for Windows:
    Authorization
iTunes Store- Authorize or deauthorize your Mac or PC.
In iTunes you use the Authorize This Computer or De-authorize This Computer option under the Store menu in iTunes' menubar. For Windows use the ALT-S keys to access it. Or turn on Windows 7 and 8 iTunes menus: iTunes- Turning on iTunes menus in Windows 8 and 7.

  • Help in Belgium: iTunes/iMovie/GarageBand

    Hello!
I am creating a stop motion photography project in iMovie. I have a 3:31 song (Bob Sinclar "Love Generation") that I need cut to 2:05.
I tried to edit down the song in Garageband and it won't allow me to import my song. Is it because it's an mp4? (I tried in several ways to drag the file into a new track but it wouldn't work)
I then tried to load my (unedited) song in iMovie (to see if there would be a way to cut off the end in iMovie) and it won't authorize even though it goes into iTunes and I type my password and it says my computer was successful in authorization, but then it I get the same message again.
I have tried opening my account info screen and it says that there is one computer authorized (which should be correct). I tried to burn the song to a cd and a dvd and it said that the burner was being used by another application (probably an independent question). I was going to then import the song again to see if it would allow me to then use this song in iMovie. But that didn't work.
Help! I'm an expat in Belgium and there aren't any genius bars in sight!

  • Itune imovie question

I am making a movie in imovie with audio that I purchased from itunes. Ive done this in the past no problem. However I downloaded the music from my pc at work this time and brought it over from with my flash drive.
I learned about allowing my mac to be a user of the music. But when i go into imovie it still tells me I need to authorize the song.
Someone in the imovie section suggested i burn the songs on a cd and then try again. I cant even figure out how to burn a cd. My preferences doesnt supply a burn option in itunes. Help
    Jim

    Jim--
If you bought Quicktime Pro, and it's for version 7, then go ahead and download the latest version of Quicktime. If you only have Quicktime 6 Pro, then be aware that if you want Pro, you'll need to pay for it again if you upgrade to Quicktime 7.
I'm not sure about why the burning symbol won't come up in iTunes. What are the exact steps you are trying to follow to burn the CD? If I can follow them, perhaps I can see why it doesn't come up...
