ITunes importing

I'm new user for iTunes and I have my song files into folders structure, how can I add/import them? It works as in iPhoto which create its own database so I can delete original file from folder or itunes creates link to song?!?
How can I import songs?

File > Add to library... and select the top level folder.
Note that this will copy all songs into /Music/iTunes/iTunes media/Music/ into Artist/Album/ folders.

i've had this happen when the cd is extremely dirty. usually only one or two tracks though, not a whole cd.

  • HT1347 I have an mp3 DVD with episodes of Gunsmoke.  iTunes imports them, but does not sort them correctly by date or episode.  One file name is GS 52-04-26 001 Billy the Kid.mp3

I have an mp3 DVD with episodes of Gunsmoke.  iTunes imports them, but does not sort them correctly by date or episode.  One file name is GS 52-04-26 001 Billy the Kid.mp3.  iTunes sorts them by month/day/year.  How can I fix that?

The weird thing is, it worked before. I encoded all the videos previously and had them all listed and didn't encounter this problem, but I noticed I'd forgotten to decomb/detelecine the videos so I deleted everything and re-encoded it all. AFter filling the tags out and setting poster frames again I was thinking of making life easier by just pasting the same artwork for every episode, so I did, but didn't like the results so I deleted it again (I selected every video, used Get Info and pasted the artwork that way).
I think it was after this that the problem started to occur. In any case I've been through every episode and made sure the name, series, episode and episode id fields are all filled in with incremental values and they are. I even made sure the Sort Name field was filled in on every video. But this didn't work either.
So, thinking another restart was needed I deleted every video again. Re-encoded them all, again. Set the tags for every video and poster frame again. Finished it all off nicely, checked cover flow and was highly annoyed to find it was STILL showing the same two pieces of art work for every video as shown in that image I posted.
Ultimately, I wouldn't care so much that cover flow is screwing up like this as I always intended to sort by program anyway so it would only ever display one piece of artwork for an entire series of videos, however where-as when it was working it picked the artwork for the first episode of a series to display, its instead picking one of the latter episodes. I can't seem to find any way of choosing what artwork I want displayed.

  • Exporting at HIGHEST quality - iTunes IMPORTING preferences?

Does the iTUNES IMPORTING preferences matter? I am exporting UNcompressed so I can give songs to a Master Engineer. What should my itune settings be at?
or should i share another way?
    Thank you!

Yes - If you're delivering a mix to a mastering engineer, do not share to iTunes! Export to Disk instead.
Generally, when you deliver something to a mastering engineer, you want it to be as unprocessed as possible. iTunes is a fantastic consumer-oriented playback application. But for sending audio in and out of iTunes on its way to a mastering engineer, it’s Hogwarts - full of mysterious nooks and crannies that could inadvertently transform your audio without you realizing it. Plus, it's completely unnecessary and avoidable.
So to take steps to ensure the highest (and most unadulterated) quality possible, first turn off auto normalize in GB’s advanced preferences, if you haven't already done so.
Then, if you've chosen any presets for your Master Track, remove them (adding these kind of finalizing effects is exactly what the mastering engineer does; the presets in Garageband are a quick and easy alternative, but you have the real thing).
Finally, under the Share Menu, choose Export Song to Disk. And, of course, don't compress.

  • What's the best iTunes import setting for highest quality and universality?

What's the best iTunes import setting for highest quality and universality?

    Highest quality?
Apple Lossless. (But the files are way big)
    Universality?
MP3 (choose the bit rate you think sounds best and doesn't take too much space)

  • Can't get rid of duplicate email accounts itunes imports from outlook

    Hey everybody,
iTunes imports my email account information from Outlook and for some reason it finds duplicate email accounts. I only have one .pst file which only has one of each email account attached to it but iTunes finds duplicates.
So in iTunes, when I tick one of a duplicate account and click apply the other duplicate will tick itself.
I have no idea what is going on and I'm tempted to reinstall outlook, itunes, delete my pst file, restore my iPhone and just start all over again!
But I really don't want to do that.

Have the same problem. Sometimes end up with in excess of 10 duplicated calendars (they show as "all mobileme calendars" but do not have the individual calendars listed) on my iphone although the correct calendars only appear once on both mobileme and Mac. Have never had sync turned on in itunes.
A tiresome workaround to delete these from the phone is to go into settings/mail,contacts,calendar/your mobileme account and turn calendars off. Say yes to delete calendar on iphone. When this is finished turn calendars back on, then exit and open the calendar. One duplicate should have been removed. Repeat ad infinitum.
Problem is the duplicates keep coming back (even without connecting to the Mac). Anyone with ideas for a permanent solution?

  • ITunes import error

I just got an iPod, installed the 64-bit iTunes and pointed it to my library of 10,000 MP3s. iTunes imported all of the songs without nay errors. The Ipod synched, however, and ended up with 1,600 errors. I tried to synch again and ended up with the same errors. Any idea what the problem could be?

The same thing happened to me. I hope this helps:
First: DO NOT SYNC YOUR iPOD. All your songs are in there, so if you don't sync your iPod, you won't lose your music.
Second: download some iPod rip app to extract the songs from your iPod.
Third: rip these songs and copy them to a folder on your desktop for example.
Fourth: copy these songs directly into your iTunes library folder.
Fifth: select these songs, right click and open.
The songs should appear as magic. It worked for me!

  • ITunes Import CD "Replace existing" not working as expected.

    iTunes 10.5.1 (42)
    To replicate problem:
Import CD using AAC encoder / iTunes Plus setting. Audio files are created. E.g. "foo.m4a" 15MB in size
    Eject CD.
Change import settings to Apple Lossless Encoder.
    Re-import CD using new settings.
Dialog box appears stating songs already imported and asks if user wants to replace existing songs and import again.
    Select "Replace Existing" button.
iTunes imports CD again and creates file "foo 1.m4a" 45MB in size and keeps existing file "foo.m4a".
This is not how I would expect "Replace Existing" to behave. I'm expecting the original file to be deleted and replaced by the newly imported file.
However I'm thinking that iTunes keeps the existing file because it has all of the metadata regarding play counts, etc and iTunes refers to this even though only the new version of the file shows on iTunes. If so, it's one way to fill up your hard drive.
Any thoughts would be appreciated before I submit a bug report to Apple.
    Thanks.

Still happening even with the latest version of iTunes. Appears to be random - sometimes it overwrites, sometimes it creates secondary copies. Frustrating!

  • Itunes import into imovie

I have an imac with imovie version 3.03. I just updated itunes to 7.0. I was trying to make a home video with imovie and imported a song from my itunes library. The song imported and I can see the audio track, but I can't hear it through imovie. There is no audio from the song. However, I can hear the song when I play it through itunes. Is there something I can do to get an itune import to play through imovie? By the way it I just tested another song that I've had for awhile and it played through imovie. I went to "get info" on the song I can't hear and it says it's a protected audio file. Does that mean I can't use it in a home movie on my own computer? Is there anything I can do? I have Quicktime 7.1.3.

    that needs some work:
the official, Apple legalized workaround is, to burn a cd-r with your purchased music (you should anyhow for backup reasons...) and re-import from that specific cd back again into iTunes... that stripes off the DRM...
a usebility hint: add to that re-imported titles some "sign", as an asterix or a tilde, helps you later to create playlists of "cleared" vs "protected" titles...
    and to add another recommendation:
I read in your specs 10.3.x, you use iM3 and QT 7.x...
we read about some trouble with "mixing" older versions of apps with newer versions of system components...
    best practise is:
    10.3.x + QT 6 + iLife≤5
    or
    10.4.x. + QT 7+ iLife≥6
.... that's some investement (I hesitate actually to do so either... ), but avoids some options for trouble...

  • Exporting to iTunes (importing preferences)

I am exporting my songs with the intent of having them mastered professionally. does it matter what the iTUNE IMPORTING preferences are set on. i am looking at it now - which ENCODER should I use and which SETTING. The highest?

The recordings are mostly 30 or 45 minutes. I copy them to Garageband in real time, and then click on Export to iTunes in the File menu. The "creating mixdown" is often very slow. The longer, 45 minute files might take more than an hour to get into iTunes.

  • Itunes imports no matter what...

every time i put a cd in just to listen to it, itunes imports it! how do i stop this? thanks for your help.
    charla

    Charla,
If you're using iTunes 5 or later select iTunes > Preferences > Advanced > Importing > On CD Insert. Ensure that neither the Import Songs or Import Songs and Eject options are selected.
In earlier versions of iTunes these options can be found in iTunes > Preferences > General > On CD Insert, I think.

  • Changing iTunes imported CD naming convention

Currently, when I import a CD using iTunes, it saves it to my custom library as:
    "library location\artist\album\track name"
Is there a way to make iTunes import a CD as the following?
    "library location\album\track name"
    For example, instead of:
    C:\Music\Nine Inch Nails\With Teeth
    iTunes imports the CD as:
    C:\Music\With Teeth

    There are different options available.
    1. Set part of compilation setting to 'yes'
    2. Fill in 'album artist' tag with a value. In this case Timbaland
    3. Edit artist tags to remove other artist information.
If iTunes is set to organize library then this can be done before or after importing CD. If do any of these after importing then iTunes will rearrange files atomatically based on tag information.
Album artist tag information overrides artist tag information and stores files based on album artist. Compilation option stores album in compilation folder then folder for album.

  • IPad2 locked on itunes import screen

When I turn my iPad2 on, the itunes import screen appears and I can't do anything else. I tried to reset it but it didn't work. I do I get out of this screen.

Have you tried connecting it to your computer's iTunes ?

  • ITunes imports movies; they do not show in catalog

I have around 500 movies in my iTunes catalog. All of these have been ripped from DVD and run through MetaX to add titles, artwork, etc. Along the way there have been bumps with iTunes here and there, but I have learned what they want and have done my best to comply.
Enter iTunes 12.0.1.26. What a disaster! For some unknown reason, this iTunes just dropped about 40 of my movies from the catalog. They are still accessible, just not through the catalog or, by extension, Apple TV.
After working on this all day, looking for solutions and then trying to implement them, I have managed to restore all but about 6 of them. These six actually DO import into the catalog folder, but they refuse to show themselves in the catalog itself. The killer is that a couple of weeks ago, they were happy members of same. NOBODY is happy NOW!
I would appreciate any suggestions as to what else to try.
    2 hours later:
Reality check: I have just now checked with Apple TV from the screen of the TV. ALL of the movies in question appear there IN THE CATALOG, yet they still do not show up on my list on my computer inside iTunes.
Where is Steve Jobs now that we need him? This company is acting more and more like Microsoft!

Did you accidentally Hide them?  So they don't show in the event  - look for option to un-hide photos
I know its there just don't want to open Iphoto while I am on-line as it persists in connecting to apple and I only use it off-line.
