Itunes in Final Cut Express

So not only am I new to Final Cut - but am new to using a Mac as well. I have to admit that I really do like the Mac!!! Ok - so my question is about importing songs from iTunes into my Final Cut Express project/movie.
I can see in iMovie 08 that it is super easy - so far I haven't quite figured it out for FCE...is it a drag and drop thing, do I have to to it in SoundTrack or what???
anyway - thanks in advance

You are absolutely right.. you do have to render it after dropping it into your timeline!
I didn't even know that you DIDN'T have to do that with AIFF files!! Thanks for telling me!..(You can tell that I'm new to FCE!) it will be much quicker to convert my mp3's to AIFF externally and drag them into FCE than to render!
Thanks!
Steve.

  • How do you import music from itunes to Final Cut Express 4?

I tried dragging and dropping the file from itunes to Final Cut Express, but that doesn't work, so I tried to import a file using the "import file" and that didn't work either. Then I found the original file using finder, and dragged it into Final Cut Express, which did put the file there, and I can hear the audio in the sample player, but when I try to play it in the sequence, this weird beeping happens. Any help?

The beeping is relating to audio you have placed into your sequence that doesn't match your sequence settings, therefore needing to be rendered.
Here is an article for iTunes to FCE http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93165 and here http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93463 that should aid with addressing your current audio woes.
    Enjoy.

  • Importing itunes into final cut express

I just bought an IMAC with Final Cut Express to do all my video editing of my kids activities. I used Pinnacle Studio on my old PC prior to this but it finally gave out. I downloaded some music CD's I had into itunes and then tried importing the music into FCE. This is not working. I have no problem adding it to my imovies but it will not work with FCE. The music format is m4a which I think is typical.
I went to You Tube and watch several tutorials from some of fellow FC users and still cannot get it to work. There must be something I have to set up in FCE to get this to work but I do not know what that is. I been looking around the program and have not been successful. Any help any of you can provide would be great. Thanks.. Ron

Hi Ron, and welcome to the FCE Forum !
You should convert the audio files to AIFF, 48KHz (aka 16-bit) stereo before importing them into FCE. Neither CDs nor iTunes songs are in that format. You can use iTunes to do the conversion.
With a new Mac and Snow Leopard you probably have iTunes9. Open Preferences, then go to General > Import Settings, then select AIFF and set Custom Settings as 48KHz, 16-bit, stereo. Save the settings. Then in your music library, select the song(s) you want to convert and do Advanced > Create AIFF version. (Note: the format you selected in Import Settings controls what the Advanced > Create menu option does.)

  • Exporting ITunes to Final Cut Express

I recently purchased a song in ITunes 6 to use in a home movie I am creating in Final Cut Express 2.0.3 When I imported the file, Final cut would not read it. The file was blank. I open it up in IMovie and it plays fine. So I saved it as a clip and once again tried to import the clip into Final cut and it is still blank. I have done this before in ITunes 5 and it worked fine. Does this have to do with the protected file of the song?
    Any help?

    Thanks Charlie,
Yes the problem was with the protected file.
After posting this I tried importing the tune into I Movie and then selecting File/Share. I Movie forces you to also select a video clip for some reason when working with protected files. Next I selected "Quicktime/Expert settings/Share" - a menu appears then select "Sound to AIFF" and "41.1 kHz 16 bit stereo".
This seemed to do the trick and I appreciate your help but I was trying into to avoid burning a cd for one song.
I purchased this song to use only in a home movie so it seems unfortunate that these files are so protected. People buy music from I tunes rather than download it for free because they are honest so I don't understand why the music industry wants to allienate its customers.
Anyway, I really appreciate your help.
    Sincerely,
    Rob

  • Importing iTunes music on to Final Cut Express

I have found that some songs will import just fine into Final cut and others wont import at all. I dont understand why some files are protected. I bought all the songs in my iTunes so why cant I import them into Final Cut Express??

Material that's DRM protected cannot be used in pro apps.

  • Rip Audio From Final Cut Express

Is it possible to rip audio from an MPEG Video in Final Cut Express and save a copy of JUST the audio file as .mp3? I know you can do this with QT Pro, but I'm going to be getting Final Cut Express down the road and I need to be able to do this. So I will just get FCE now if it can perform this function and not waste money on QT Pro.
    Thanks!
    A

Well, there's all kinds of flavors of 'MPEG Video' out there, knowing what you're using would help.
QuickTime Pro can do this, and it's not a waste of $20 to get it.
You can also use MPEG Streamclip to extract the audio to AIFF, then use iTunes to convert to MP3 if that's what you really want.

  • Re-installing Final Cut Express 4.0

I have Final Cut Express 4.0, upgraded from FCE 3.5 installed from disks.  I am trying to migrate from FCE to FC Pro.  I have old projects (one from 2008) that I want to reconnect and create QT 10.1 files before doing so.  I have hit a number of glitches when opening these projects, such as "This application cannot be used to play this content.  In order to play this content, please open with iTunes."  Also when I open FCE, it occasionally searches for files from projects that I opened the day before, and the project doesn't open with FCE.  I thought if I reinstalledFCE, these glitches might go away.
I have Lion OSX 10.7.2 on my Mac Pro, and when I used my FCE 3.5 disks to try to install FCE (I was looking for an uninstall program on the disks), I got the message "Can't open FCE.mpkg because PowerPC apps no longer supported."  How might I clean up FCE 4.0 to move on to FCP X?

    >The visual portion of these files won't open in QT X, but I can open them in QT 7 and they play fine
I don't know why they won't play in QT Player 10 ... are you absolutely sure you exported from FCE as a self-contained movie?  If so, they should play on any system that has the needed codecs installed.
    >when I try to upload them to YouTube, it's a mess
Don't know what you mean by "mess."  However, most people will convert to H.264 prior to uploading to youtube.
    >After opening them in QT 7, can I convert them to a self-contained QT file?
If you exported as a self-contained movie, then that's what it is.  You could try converting the self-contained file to another format and see if that works in QT Player 10.
    >Will I be able to import them to FC X?
They should, but then they should also play in QT Player 10.   Is this on the same system that they'll play in QT Player 7?

  • Imported song "skips" when using final cut express.  please help!!!

hey everybody. i'm editing a music video in final cut express 4.0. i'm very new to this, so please forgive me for using incorrect terminology, or in most cases, no terminology. here we go...
i'm having this problem where the song i imported into fce keeps, for lack of a better word, skipping. the song is an mp3 file. the song plays all the way through, and it doesn't stop when it skips. but every so often, there will be this glitch, where you can hear the music screw up. when played in itunes or on a cd, this song plays fine, so it's not the mp3. what gives?
i thought it might be related to the audio from my video tracks. at first, i was just bringing the audio levels from the video all the way down. but then i decided to try erasing it to see if that would help. it didn't.
thank you so much for reading and taking the time to share your valuable knowledge! take care, everyone.

  • Importing Music and TextEdit Voice Application to Final Cut Express HD

I'm having trouble importing music tracks I bought and downloaded from the ITunes Music Store to Final Cut Express HD.
Also, is there a way of importing the 'audio computer voice' from TextEdit reading some text into Final Cut Express HD - I would like audio of a 'Robot Voice' reading some text on my audio track in a project.
    Many thanks,
    Jim

DRM prohibits use of many iTunes store tracks in FCE. The iTunes procedure, for material you can use legally, is to click iTunes>Preferences. In the Importing screen of the Advanced section, select AIFF encoding in Import Using. Then select the track you want to convert in your library and click Advanced>Convert Selection to AIFF, then drag the resulting file into FCE. (It will be at the CD sample rate of 44.1kHz; FCE prefers 48kHz.)

  • Can't move a soundtrack file into Final Cut Express

I most likely doing something wrong. Who can give me directions for importing a Soundtrack file into Final Cut Express.

What I do Les is go to Share in Sound Track then ...Share to iTunes. Then I go to iTunes and drag it to the desk top then import via FC. There maybe is an easier way but I don't know it.

  • I cannot install Final Cut Express HD

I just purchased from the local Apple store a copy of Final Cut Express HD. I stick the install cd in my drive and it comes up with a window and an install icon. I double click on the install icon then itunes comes up and nothing else happens.

Thanks Ian. I would like some more help with this.
I tried it in my buddy's computer and it did like it supposed to do. I cancelled the install on his computer. he has a big mac desktop 2 ghz intel core duo. I tried it again on my laptop and the same thing happens as before.
I load the cd in the slot. a window opens with the install icon, along with some supporting pdf readme files. I can click on the readme files and everything does like it supposed to. I click on the install icon, then Itunes opens and nothing else happens. If the dvd was faulty it wouldn't have worked on my buddys computer.

  • Can't install Final Cut Express 4

My FCE 4 was no longer loading, so I uninstalled it and tried reinstalling it. When I get to the "Custom Install" page, Final Cut Express is unchecked and greyed out. Only LiveType is available for installation.
    What's going on?
    Thanks.

  • My Final Cut Express 2 won't import any audio or export anything

My Final Cut Express 2 won't import mp4s or any audio or export anything. I have been using compressor only. I have recently just changed to Tiger 10.4.11

Final Cut Express does not work with MP4s.  You need to convert the MP4 video to QuickTime DV or QuickTime Apple Intermediate Codec before importing it into FCE.  Which one to use depends on the properties of the MP4 video you have ... basically, if it's standard def 4:3 then convert to QuickTime DV (NTSC if you are in North America, PAL if you are in Eurpope) ... high def 16:9 should be converted to QuickTime Apple Intermediate Codec.
In most cases you can use MPEG Streamclip to do the conversion.
As for audio files, they need to be AIFF, 16-bit (aka 48KHz), stereo.   If they are not AIFF format you need to convert them ... you can use iTunes or almost any audio editing software to convert audio files.

  • Audio transitions in Final Cut Express--Not Allowing

I'm trying to drag and drop an audio transition (specifically, Cross Fade 0dB) in between two mp3s that I imported into Final Cut Express and which currently reside on the A1 and A2 audio tracks. When I attempt to do so, I get an "X" telling me that I can't. I have rendered everything that needs to be rendered, video and audio. What else do I need to do? All honest help appreciated. Screen shot available upon request.

Okay, done...this FCE is a picky b*&ch. Hope it's worth the trouble. It's my first day playing with it, but man, what a friggin' learning curve. Not to brag, but I consider myself gifted when it comes to computers...and this thing is giving me a headache...
While I have your attention, if you don't mind me throwing in an unrelated question, my iTunes has suddenly been experiencing slowdowns. I don't mean 0.5- to 1.0-second slowdowns. I mean 5-second slowdowns where the spinning carousel keeps me from doing anything. How can I research to see if I have inadvertently installed some software that is doing this BS? It is rather irritating!!

  • Using music in Final Cut Express

I loaded music into iTunes. It's music written and performed by my friend. I'm editing a video for him.
In the old iTunes you could convert any song to an MP3 version. They you could import and use the song in Final Cut Express with no problem. Now I don't see that option. It's either not there on one of my iMacs or it's grayed out in another.
How can convert my songs to that I can edit and use music.

Ideally, you should use should use the original file instead of MP3/AAC.
And you don't use MP3 in Final Cut Express.
See this -> Final Cut Pro and Final Cut Express: Convert MP3 and AAC audio files for compatibility before importing
