ITunes in Windows XP 64 bit not recognizing my iPod Touch

I recently switched to XP 64 bit and after much much messing around I finally got itunes installed and running (how is a whole nother thread's worth that I'll see about answering later). But now it won't recognize my iPod Touch. Any suggestions on how to make this happen?

I did a restore. Not from backup, though, as I had not done a backup prior to the restore. However, in the process of the restore, it asked if I wanted to back up and I said yes.
The restore concluded, and then it asked if I wanted to put the backed-up stuff back on the iPod, and I said yes.
Then I did the sync. It seemed to be working. It went through 3 steps and stayed on step 3 for a while. Then it ended, and there was nothing on the iPod. The "Music" button opens a screen that says "no content."
Then I did a sync test from Help->Diagnostics. This is what was displayed on the command window:
Performing Sync Diagnostics for iTunes
reporting PE file versions
reporting time zones
Enabling Sync Logging
Starting Sync
2013-03-13 02:59:11.896 syncli.exe[3188:e6c] setting one shot sync group for client con.apple.MobileSync.6f93c87e3101b680446936d817872280c801eb54

Waiting for Sync to finish
...Disabling Sync Logging
The test ended "successfully" (with a green light, etc).
Don't you think that "no registered client con.apple.MobileSync.blahblahblah..." is significant? Seems like it was unable to do the sync because some program or process or whatever was missing.
So, still not synching. Is there anything else I can try? Thanks...

    Hi Jim,
Thank you for your reply to my posting about iTunes not recognizing my iPod Touch after upgrading to Leopard.
iPods & Finder. Some other postings incorrectly lead me to believe that the iPod would show up in the "Finder". Thanks for setting me straight on this.
iTunes Not Recognizing iPod Touch. Prior to your posting, I had already read the article you referenced (to remove and reinstall the Apple Mobile Device Service per article "http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1747").
Prior to your posting, I had also read other articles in various "Apple Discussions" (forums) that suggested this recognition problem could be resolved by uninstalling/re-installing iTunes 8.0.2. Some implied that you could just re-install iTunes 8.0.2 right over the currently installed one without bothering to uninstall it.
Based on those postings, I "gambled" last night and simply downloaded and re-installed iTunes 8.0.2 (without uninstalling it first). I noticed during the installation that the Apple Mobile Device agent you referenced was also re-installed. Well, my gamble paid off! After the installation (and a reboot?), iTunes onces again RECOGNIZED my iPod Touch.

  • My computer is not recognizing my IPod Touch, therefore I can not sync.

My computer is not recognizing my Ipod touch. I have used all the help tips and tried different usb ports with no change. The only other thing I can think of is that since I lost my cable for the Ipod, I am using the cable for my Iphone. Would this cause the problem? The cables seem to be the exact same, but perhaps I am mistaken.

  • ITunes Not Recognizing my iPod Touch after Upgrading from Tiger to Leopard

After upgrading from Tiger (10.4.x) to Leopard (10.5.0=>10.5.6), my iPod Touch is no longer recognized by iTunes 8.0.2. The iPod Touch no longer appears in iTunes' "source list" (left side pane in iTunes' GUI).
Immediately prior to that upgrade, my iPod Touch was working great with Tiger (10.4.x). iTunes 8.0.2 recognized it (listed it in sources) and always synchronized with it successfully.''
My iPod Touch is also not shown in the Finder. However, it does show up as recognized in iPhoto.
Any ideas on how to get the iPod recognized again in iTunes under Leopard?

Thanks to a posting by Jim in a different Apple Discussions (forum), my problem is now resolved. Read on for the details.

  • My Windows XP machine does not recognize my iPod Touch

    Hello,
I just bought a second-hand iPod Touch (4-gen, 32GB). My Windows XP laptop is giving no indication that anything is attached to it at all. The "found new hardware" wizard does not open. The little icon that allows you to eject safely before detaching doesn't show up in the tray. No external devices are listed on My Computer.
I've spent a couple of days looking through previous posts in this forum and I did a little troubleshooting. This is what I can tell you so far:
The iPod is working - I can play music on it, use a few apps, etc.
I tried two different USB cables and neither one worked.
The Apple Mobile Device Support DOES appear in my Add/Remove programs list
But the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is NOT in the USB controllers list.
I had iTunes running before I hooked up the USB cable to the iPod.
I tried to look for iTunes updates, but was unable to access the site. (Yes, I was connected to the Internet - following directions on this site. ) I don't remember what version of iTunes I have (I'm not at home right now), but it's not the latest.
Until a couple of weeks ago, I had an iPod classic 5-gen that I was able to sync with iTunes, no problem. It's only the iPod touch that doesn't work.
Most users who ask about this problem do seem to get some recognition on their computer that there is some sort of device attached. They seem to have more issues with iTunes. So most similar questions direct to the "iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows" article. This article seems to assume that the computer has responded in some way to the iPod, even if incorrectly - but mine doesn't respond at all.
Can someone recommend a troubleshooting article that addresses the more basic problem of Windows not recognizing the iPod?
    Thank you,
    Joyce

  • ITunes suddenly not recognizing my iPod Touch 4g

I got a new 32gb iPod Touch, 4th Generation, last week. Everything's been working fine. Then, this morning, I went to sync my iPod and iTunes didn't open automatically. I opened it manually and it hung for a few seconds then worked again but my iPod wasn't showing up. I checked in Windows Explorer and my iPod was definitely connected. To clarify, I'm using iTunes 10.1.1.4 (64-bit version) under Windows 7 Home, 64-bit.
I went through all the steps in all the appropriate KB articles and nothing worked. I tried stripping all traces (AppData, iTunes Library, registry entries, etc.) of any Apple software and reinstalling and still no luck.
I tried placing my iPod in Recovery mode and, lo, iTunes recognizes it. I figured it must be an issue with the iPod. So I, reluctantly, did a restore. Everything went fine until the point where the iPod restarts. iTunes does not recognize my iPod. So now my iPod is stuck in a factory reset state (screen with the picture of the USB cord and the arrow to the iTunes icon) and iTunes 10.1 won't recognize it. It's not showing up in Windows Explorer at this point but the Apple Mobile Device USB driver is showing in Device Manager.
I read one post where someone had success rolling back to iTunes 9 then updating to 10.1 that way. I tried this. While it didn't work, it did show me something interesting: Although iTunes 9 could not sync with my newer iPod, it DID recognize it and tell me to update.
Finally, I tried rolling back to version 7.9.2 of CoreAudioToolbox.dll. Still no luck.
Since then, I've managed to sync just fine with iTunes 10 running under a Windows XP Virtual Machine in VMWare Workstation. I've also synced just fine with CopyTrans manager, an iTunes alternative (although it's not very powerful and doesn't sync files for apps ie: Can't add videos for VLC Player). Seeing as these worked, I can rule out problems with the iPod and problems with my Windows install. It seems to be localized to iTunes running under Windows 7.
Futhermore, I've realized that I can't view the 'Devices' tab in iTunes preferences. If I click on it, iTunes just hangs and stops responding. The tab becomes highlighted, but the content below stays as whatever tab I was previously on. This specific symptom seems like something to me that might clearly indicate what trouble my iTunes is having - an overall issue with devices - but every combination of search terms that I can think of turns up nothing.
My hope is that someone here will know what this means, what files and/or registry entries I have to delete and or replace? Did I miss something when I cleared everything iTunes related out of my system before? I must have, since the issues carry over from install to install.
Many thanks in advance to anyone who can help!

How did you get the VMWare sync to work? I hate Apple at this point.

  • ITunes is not recognizing my iPod Touch After iTunes froze during a sync!

Okay... i was syncing my second gen iPod Touch (16gb) with iTunes and everything was going normally, until iTunes froze on my windows PC!!!
Then, i had to use ctrlaltdel (task manager) to end task for iTunes. When i restarted iTunes to try and sync my iPod Touch, it asked me if i wanted to enable syncing. I clicked yes, and then it said sync services could not find information on this device.
I had NEVER tried to jailbreak my iPod Touch, i just installed 3.0 yesterday, and sync was working perfectly. I didnt have any problems.
Please help me. How do i fix this? i looked on apple.com and they said to reinstate the Apple Mobile Device Service, which i DID. i followed their instructions to the letter, but nothing has worked. Im really scared! i payed $300 for this iPod and while everything works, it wont let me sync to iTunes!!!

OK, no need to panic. Most everything is fixable.
First off, reset your touch. Hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons down together until you see the Apple logo. Let go and let it restart.
Reboot your PC. When it is done, check to see if Apple Mobile Device Services are running. If they are, plug in your iPod. What happens?
Does anything pop up like a camera notification, or your PC reports it can't recognize this device?
If you get the camera notification, you will have to disable that before itunes will see your iPod. Search Support for an answer to that.
If you are still having problems, completely remove all Apple software from your computer (iTunes, Apple Mobile Device Services, QuickTime) and download and re-install iTunes.

My computer will not recognize my 1st Gen Ipod Touch 8gb when I plug it into my USB port. I get a message USB Device Not Recognized. I've tried everything from resetting the iPod, uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes and all other Apple related programs, to fiddling with the settings in my Device Manager. It will only recognize it as an Unknown Device, not even an Apple device.
What should I do? I just got this thing through a trade, it's clean, wifi works fine, in great condition. I just don't know what to do! It won't show up in iTunes at all, won't show up as a mass storage device, nothing. I am running Windows 7. I've also tried using different cords, different usb ports, and another computer. None of that made a difference.
