Itunes infinite hanging

Hi
Itunes is driving me crazy!
It hangs frequently and it shows itself as not responding, if i try to force quit (even from the manager) it just restart immediately.
When in this state it even cancel logouts!
The only ways i've found so far are the hardware shutdown (button) and opening the force quit window and the logout one and press one followed by the other ---quickly!!!!
Obviously continuing this way is not a solution and probably not very healty for my macbook.
It is not clear but it seems to me the problem could be because i have the library on a portable external disk and happens when the macbook wakes after a sleep.
Could this be the cause? any solution anybody can suggest?
thanks
Andrea
p.s. the problem was present even before 8.0.2 but i thought it was connected to ipod syncing but is independent from the ipod

I have a problem with iTunes hanging up also. If I use the remote control to access the movie section, it will hang if iTunes is not open. I have to restart. I can watch movie previews fine, just anything either in a playlist or purchased. It hangs when searching for titles. I don't know if this is OSX or iTunes, just thought I would pass this along.

every time I repair my iPod with iTunes, it hangs at the end of the process (while checkin the recovery of iPod). What can I do?

I chose to restore it to factory defaults, but that never succeeded.
It hangs at the end of the process.
    printscreen:

    Language is Dutch :-)
    Littery it says:
    Check of Recovery of iPod.
    Already for 40 minutes.
    I closed down iTunes.
Now, when I turn on my iPod, there is the icon of iTunes with an usb cable towards it.
When I attach it to my computer and turn on iTunes, the message is there that a iPod was stuck in recovery mode and I should retry it.
And then I get the same story. Unpacking, installing, checking... blocked!

  • Problem closing iTunes - iTunes.exe hanging.

I have been having a problem restarting iTunes EXCEPT on a reboot or by manually ending the iTunes.exe process. iTunes.exe is hanging.....it is not using any CPU, but memory usage reduces to about 95,000k, and, of course, I have to end the process before I can restart iTunes.
I finally figured out that this problem occurs only when I have been streaming music through Apple Express. In other words, Apple Express is preventing iTunes from closing.

I experimented around and reformated, and began reinstalling programs one by one as a test, starting first with iTunes. It worked just fine. Low and behold, the next program I installed was my antivirus/spyware program. It recreated the problem I had been having for the last year or so. I tried putting exceptions in the application configuration, but that didn't make any difference. Surprisingly, even stopping/disabling the program didn't work either. Completely uninstalling the program did - meaning there were conflicts between the installed components of the Antivirus/spyware program and the iTunes/Airport Express. Now I've got to go find another spyware/antivirus program. But, the question remains, why should a antivirus/spyware program, disabled at that, ie, stopped, cause iTunes to hang after streaming music through Airport Express??? Strange.

  • My iTunes keeps hanging. What do I do?

Whenever i open my Mac and launch itunes, it hangs and wont work. Please what do i do?

The first thing you should look for is old out-dated software that interacts with iTunes. You'll find plug-ins for those apps here:
    Mac:
    /Users/username/Library/iTunes/iTunes Plug-ins/
    /Library/iTunes/iTunes Plug-ins/
Just pull them to the desktop and test again.
More info about plug-ins here -> iTunes: Troubleshooting issues with third-party iTunes plug-ins

  • ITunes 11 hangs (spinning beach ball) in Mountain Lion

Whenever I open iTunes, it hangs with a spinning beach ball for about three minutes. During this time, Activity Monitor shows iTunes (not responding) using 90–130% of the CPU.
After a few minutes, the beach ball stops and iTunes works fine...for a while. Double clicking on any audio file on my desktop, sets off the spinning beach ball again for another three minutes, at which time iTunes becomes responsive again, but the sound file does not play.
I've tried tossing the iTunes preferences and running Disk Warrior to no avail. I'm running 10.8.2 on my mid-2007 iMac. Any ideas/suggestions for troubleshooting?

Okay, I think I've finally solved my problem. I moved my entire iTunes library from one hard drive to another, then I deleted everything from iTunes (selected all songs, hit delete key, but didn't delete songs from disk) and then reimported them by dragging my Music folder into iTunes.
I'm not sure if moving the songs from one disk to another really helped, but deleting and reinstalling the songs definitely did.
I actually let iTunes perform a "scan for music" to reinstall the tracks, but that never seems to bring in everything. I had to drag in all of my compilation disks and some other miscellaneous tracks. P.I.T.A.
But, the good news is iTunes no longer hangs.

  • ITunes 10 hangs trying to exit the Store

I just installed iTunes 10 on my system, and it works so far...but for one thing. If I go into the iTunes Store, I can't exit and return to my music listings (or anything else) without iTunes suddenly hanging, prompting me to force-quit. It's so far the only bug I've found, though from what I've read here, there could be many more around the corner.
I haven't tried to login to the store or purchase anything--just having it hang when leaving is bad enough.

I've just discovered what appears to be a way around the hang. It appears to hang only if you enter, and then exit the Store without doing anything first. If you do something--anything really, just clicking on something visible and accessing it does the trick--then you can exit the Store without the hang occurring. I'd rather the problem didn't exist to begin with--suppose there's nothing worth accessing at the time?--but that's something for Apple to work out in the next revision, which I hope would be soon.

  • My iTunes Genius hangs up when I launch.

My iTunes Genius hangs up when I launch as it is "sending information to Apple..." everytime! Anybody have troubleshooting steps? I have reloaded and it still does this.

    Hello iamtuner,
Thank you for contacting Apple Support Communities. I would recommending you update your iTunes to v11.2. From the release notes for that update:
This update also resolves an issue where iTunes may become unresponsive when updating Genius and improves overall performance and stability. Podcasts for iOS 2.1 or later is recommended when syncing podcast episodes.

  • ITune 11 hanging/not responding to connect Store

iTune 11 hanging and not responding at the time of connecting to store. I have tried to reinstall and repair but everytime result is same.

    Try resetting your iPod.
Hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If that didn't help, tap Settings / General / Reset / Reset Network Settings.
Restart your iPod.  Hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears. Slide your finger across the slider to turn off iPod touch. To turn iPod touch back on, press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.

  • ITunes 9 hanging on 'Updating iTunes library...'

    Hi
Installed iTunes 9 and it seems to have hung right at the end of the progress bar of 'Updating iTunes library...'. I have a big iTunes library but it has been sat like that for an hour now with no sign of movement. What should I do? Is it doing something or has it just hung? Can't seem to Restart either. Any suggestions? Thanks.

    Hi!
Sorry to hear that you facing the same problem as I had. I was just waiting 2-5mins and then it went trough... but that is not the biggest issue. Now iTunes 9 hangs(not responding) every now and then and again you need to wait 2min until it's responding again.
For me this is big issues because it's seems to be so that I cannot get it working gain. I must say that this is my first time when something has really went wrong and there must be serious bug on iTunes 9. How do I get back to version 8 or is the library destroyed permanently and I'm deep s...
Very unstable application cannot use it at all! Not ready for launch for sure...

  • ITunes Match now causes iTunes to hang/crash

When I start iTunes, everything is fine.  When iTunes Match starts checking my library and the cloud, iTunes then hangs and I have to force quit.  If I turn off WiFi, I can prevent iTunes Match from starting up and use iTunes and sync iDevices fine.  My Library seems to be fine, but if I turn on WiFi again, iTunes Match starts connecting and again iTunes crashes.  I have tried to turn off iTunes Match, but iTunes Match has to connect before it will let me turn it off, and connecting is what is crashing iTunes.
Anyone else having a similar experience?

What I've found is there are specific files that won't upload, causing iTunes to crash.
The files that are causing it for me are hour+ long DJ mixes.  I can't find anything else other than the length of the files.  Nothing I've found helps other than deleting the files from your library.  Good luck finding those files though .
I have older files that were in my library when Match was first released of the same length, which do not have the issue.  Extremely frustrating that there isn't a way I've found to disable a file from syncing.
