Itunes info into Windows Explorer

Before I recently updated iTunes whenever I would enter detailed information about a song in the iTunes information tab if I had Windows Explorer open that same information would appear in the proper columns on the same MP3 file line in Windows Explorer. After I installed the latest version of iTunes that no longer happens. I didn't change any settings in iTunes that I am aware of.
I found this very convenient to maintain only updated information on my songs. Anyone have any suggestions on what I might have changed or how I can get this function to happen again.
My thanks to anyone who can assist.

This can sometimes happen with files that have multiple tags. iTunes shows and updates one version while Windows Explorer shows another. In some cases iTunes can even update one tag and then reread unchanged data from another. I suspect nothing has changed but you've run into a problem album at the same time as the update. Check with a file you know has changed in the past.
One way to clean up the tags is to select some tracks and use the right-click option Convert ID3 Tags > None a few times, then use Convert ID3 Tags > v2.3. iTunes will retain and then replace all of the information it has with the exception of embedded artwork which will be removed.

IPOD model A1059 appears frozen and is unresponsive to all click wheel entries. Reset does not work.  Does not show up in ITunes or in Windows Explorer.  What is the problem and is there a fix?

If you are unable to reset the iPod (assuming the hold switch is not in the On position either), then you'll have to let the iPod's battery fully drain. Then connect it to a charger and leave it to charge for a couple of hours.

  • Windows PARTIALLY reconises iPOD - Yes to iTunes, No to Windows Explorer...

Right, I've read all of the posts on the fourms about connection to Windows, but this one is slightly different.
My ipod nano (4gb), has been working just fine for a couple of months (has just been replaced by Apple). I use it primarily for music through iTunes, but also sometimes as a portable hard drive.
All of iTunes and music is stored on my PC at home, but I also connect nearly every day to the PC's at my university.
Ok - so I'm sitting right now at the uni with my ipod connected (to charge), and the uni machines immediately pick it up and add it as a device. It is currently showing in Windows Explorer, and I can view it, edit it, and access all of the information that is currently on it - no problem.
The problem happened yesterday at home. For the first time ever, when connected my PC no longer recognises it properly. When you connect it initially, you get the "new device" sound from Windows, and the "new hardware" icon in the system tray pops fine. If I have Windows explorer open, it shows the Ipod fine, and allocates it a drive letter.
HOWEVER, after about 5 or 6 seconds, the ipod entry in Windows Explorer disappears again, never to be seen again. From this point on, it is inaccessible through Windows explorer.
FURTHERMORE, iTunes still picks it up fine! Even after it has disappeared from Windows explorer, it is still sitting there in the left hand menu of iTunes just fine. I can still access and update ok within iTunes - from the iTunes point of view, there doesn't seem to be any problem at all.
    Therefore I am extremely confused.
It has been a couple of weeks since I last used the ipod with my home machine. The ONLY thing that has changed, is the SP2 updates which the machine automatically downloaded and updated. Therefore, I am concerned that this is the direct cause. I use Norton Internet Security 2006 on my machine, and it kicks up all sorts of fuss, if you don't have Windows updater set to automatic. I am aware of several Windows updates that it is has downloaded automatically (which you can see installing during the shut-down sequence).
    * I can eliminate my apple data cable, as it is working fine on the PC that I am using right now.
    * I can eliminate the ipod itself, as again, this is working fine with the PC that I am using right now.
    * I can eliminate my USB ports on my home machine, as they too work fine with several other flash sticks connected to them.
    * I have NOT downloaded or installed the recent 23.6.06 ipod updater which seems to be causing everyone lots of bother!
If I disconnect and reconnect the ipod, Windows Explorer, then briefly picks it up again, but then loses it again after about 6 seconds!
Also - the ipod is picked up fine (when connected) in Device Manager. It is listed under the "disk drives" icon, and when probed, Device Manager claims that it is working properly.
Also - the ipod is listed under the "safely remove hardware" icon in the sys tray. It simply isn't given a drive letter, which is the only apparent problem.
I remain CONFUSED, as it to what is partially blocking my ipod - it is clearly linked to Windows Explorer, and my guess is that some sort of security feature is causing it not to have a drive letter. I have Norton in charge of my security settings, and have mostly disengaged Windows in-house security settings.
I would be VERY, VERY grateful if someone can please help me, or let me know if they have suffered the same problem, and identified the resolution.
If I can't find an answer - I will try the 5 R's - which I didn't have time to do yesterday, and update if this is successful.

Can I ask you another question? (separate)
When using itunes - I had thought that you could literally dump ALL of your music into the itunes library and purely select what you want to appear on you ipod, by selecting the check-boxes, next to each track listed in the main library!?
I have my ipod full all of the time - and I would like to think that I can add more to my itunes library than actually appears on the ipod itself. However, I find that when I add a new folder to the itunes library - if I update my track listings by unchecking the older stuff in the itunes library that I want to remove from the ipod, and leaving the new stuff checked - when you click on update ipod - it does not delete the old "unchecked in itunes" stuff as I want it, and merely tries to add the new tracks. Because the ipod is already full - it cannot continue, and tried to offer a compromise of adding as much as it can etc etc.
The only way I have found to remedy this so far, is to physically "clear" all of the unwanted songs from the itunes library (but keeping the files where they are located on the HD), and then adding the new tracks/folders - and then itunes DOES delete the removed songs from the library, and adds the new ones.....
Is there a better way of doing this?
    hi Richard!
Why also then, will she not show up on my home PC
(with the itunes installed), but show up perfectly
fine in Windows Explorer on the uni PC's?
yeah, i'm wondering about that too. the settings
in that preference tab are (mostly) stored on the
ipod itself, which is how if you switch an ipod to
"manually manage" on one PC, it connects manually to
a different PC also. so, initially, we're going to be
trying to work out which PCs (home or Uni) you're
    getting the anomalous behavior on.
perhaps take a note of what preferences you've got
engaged when you're plugged into one of the uni PCs,
too? that might help with the untangling process.
    keep us posted.
    love, b

  • I updated folder info via windows explorer....

& now my songs/albums are missing from itunes. well, the names are there but the files aren't. because i moved/edited them. but only within my main library folder so they're there but itunes thinks they're in a different THERE.
i had a bunch of albums showing as "compilations" that weren't (ie licensed to ill by the beastie boys) so i moved their folders from the "compilations" folder to their respective artist folders in windows explorer. i also made some changes to misspelled artist names on folders and stuff. now when i try to play those songs in iTunes they can't be located.
conceptually i understand why, but i didn't move anything out of my main library destination folder, just within it so i don't see why i should have to re-import or -add all of the files....is there a way to refresh/redirect iTunes (without doubling all of my files) or do i have to go "locate" each song/file individually?
Dear "compilations": I HATE YOU. :P love, mia.

I hate that Compilations folder, too. So here's a tip - when you rip CDs to itunes in the future, BEFORE you hit the import button in itunes, do a +Get Info+ on all the tracks and make sure the "Part of a Compilation" is turned off in the Options tab.
As to itunes losing the paths to the files, that is how it is designed. It only knows absolute path names to the files. By renaming or moving files using Windows Explorer, you confused itunes.
    You either have to
    1. re-add the files so itunes gets updated with the new path (and remember to delete the old entry with the bad path)
    2. Locate each song individually

  • Ipod 160gb does not show up in itunes or in windows explorer

I bought an ipod classic a month ago and transferred my 40 gb of music from my old ipod (same model) over to it. There were no problems until yesterday all the sudden the classic decided to stop working. it plays songs but only when it feels like it and does not show up in windows explorer or itunes. i spent hours on apple looking through the troubleshooting stuff but nothing worked. All i see under my device manager is WPD Filesystem Volume Driver with a yellow box and an exclamation point. My old ipod classic connects to itunes just fine. What do i need to do to fix this? also the broken classic does charge on the computer and say "connected - eject before disconnecting". Please help.

Edit: It is actually showing up in win explorer as a Removeable Drive but if i try to click on it to browse the files it freezes completely. It still doesn't show up in itunes.

  • ITunes Freezing Both Windows Explorer and Itself!

    Hello!
I understand that this has been happening a lot lately due to the new iTunes version (or rather, the newest version of Quicktime?). I'm a little afraid to reinstall iTunes now because as of recently, it's been freezing up my Windows Explorer and genuinely messing up my entire PC. I've had to do a factory reset to it twice in order for me to actually use my computer again...
So, I was wondering if there was actually a fix for this now. And if there isn't, are there any ways to avoid having my PC rendered useless?
Here are my PC specs, btw:

  • Video that appears in iTunes but not Windows Explorer crashing iTunes

I added some videos to my iTunes library today, and I tried to sync my iPod. When I connect it, I get the "Updating iPod, do not disconnect" message, but it doesn't say exactly what it's transferring. After a little while, I get the notification that iTunes is crashing and the option to send an error report.
I updated iTunes to 6.0.3 earlier today, and updated my iPod to see if that would fix anything. When it didn't, I checked to see if there was something wrong with any of the videos. I tried deleting the videos, until iTunes crashed again. Whenever I try to delete, or play, or right-click this video, it crashes. I thought that maybe there was a problem with a video, so deleting it through Windows Explorer might have some effect, so I went to where it would be stored, and . . . it wasn't there.
I know that a file being listed in the library but not actually stored in Windows would normally just result in the exclamation-point-in-a-circle icon, but could this be what's causing iTunes to crash? Is there a way to delete something from the iTunes library without actually going through iTunes?

Okay, I managed to fix it after uninstalling iTunes and installing an old version . . . but of course, after I had everything up and working again, I ended up causing it to happen again. The upside of that is that I now know how it happened and an easier way to fix it.
The corruption of the file occured when trying to type in an artist on a file whose tag I had modified with iPod TVShow . . . it said "Editting tag", then crashed for the first time, and crashed again whenever I tried to edit that. Though, I found that that can be fixed just by deleting the movie file first through Windows Explorer, and then through iTunes (I didn't see it in Windows Explorer originally because I didn't realize that the re-labeling of the artist never went through, so I looked in the wrong folder, and I wasn't able to use Show Song File in order to see where it was, what with the constant crashing). Hopefully that'll help if anybody else ends up with the same problem.

  • HT201318 How do I back up everything that will be lost when I upgrade my software for my Ipod Touch 3rd Generation? Can I just take the information and go into windows explorer and drag it out in2 a separate folder/drag it back?I'm running Windows Vista b

I am trying to figure out how to back up ALL of my apps, games, movies, personal info, etc, that is destroyed when I  upgrade ITunes  ( I do not know why). If it's all on ITunes in the first place then what's the problem with installing new software after wiping it clean, then adding that software and the original apps, games, movies, tv shows, etc, that are stored on ITunes to begin with"? With that being said, I subscribed to ICloud somehow through the Itunes store, the instructions that they had for using Windows VIsta were incorrect so I signed up with the intention of using it as a tool to backup all of my data. Problem is I only got 25 gigs to start and I need 40 gigs. I also don't know how to properly set up the account or manage it, or the amount of data that it will hold. Please help me!!!! I just recently located my Touch after it being misplaced by my little sister for over a year and I'm trying to upgrade the operating system, after all, it IS over two years old.....Thanks, in advance for any help anyone can give me.

Hi. The two user tips both describe a sequence of steps that should get your library from the point where it threatens to wipe data from your device to where it is syncing normally, while recovering as much information as possible. It may still be necessary to wipe and reload the device but this should only take place once all the data that can be recovered has been recovered.
Doing step 1 of 8 and then complaining things aren't the way you want them to be yet strikes me as premature...
Since you appear to have all your media content, and we are discussing an iPod classic, not an iOS device, the main worries are already taken care of. What's left is ratings, playcounts, playlist membership and checked status. Since your device holds only part of your library at best you could only recover the missing data for the content that is on the device using third party tools.
Recreating the previous checked/unchecked status of every track in your library from where you are now may not be that easy. Syncing with selected playlists has many advantages, one of which would have been that you would have a named playlist that could have been retrieved by 3rd party software if you had used this method.
You haven't explained what caused your problem in the first place, but if you have a Previous iTunes Libraries folder holding old copies of your iTunes database (generated with each iTunes update) then it would be possible to restore the most recent of these and then update the library with any changes in your media folder.
BTW Apple doesn't offer free support for this kind of issue with iTunes.

  • How to Transfer iTunes Info into ID3?

    Hi all,
I Have my itunes Library sorted to my liking, but I want all the information (Artist, Genre, Year, Album Art etc) to be transfered to the Mp3's ID3 Tag so all the info is portable. Does anyone know how to use this? I'm using 10.5.3 OS X w/ the latest version of itunes, thanks again!

I Jut found that it copied my library into another folder and all of those are tagged! (Though the originals I have Placed in the Library remain unchanged? Also, In that new folder it made with copies w/ ID3 tag, sometimes there are two of each in a folder, does anyone know why? Ie.
    Artist - Song
    Artist - Song 1
Anyone know why this is happening? Thanks for the quick reply!
    EDIT:
Sorry for the confusion, but here's my overall problem. I have all my music sorted in a folder as I like it, though I didn't know an option was on to copy my music over to another folder. What I would like ultimately is to get rid of all the music that it created, and have it use the original files as the m=path to the MP3's, though I would like to transfer all the ID3 Tags (Genre, Artist, Albumart, etc) that I have currently set. Is this possible? Or do I have to clear the library and individually add them back album-by-album with the copy-to-another-folder option off? Thanks again!

  • IPod visible in iTunes but not Windows explorer

    Hi there,
I recently upgraded from windows 7 to Windows 8.1 and since then, my iPod touch and Windows do not seem to be getting along very well. Below is a screen shot of my device manager showing that very sad little yellow triangle next to my iPod. I have tried a number of things including restarting the Apple mobile divice driver and even reinstalling everything!!!
It doesn't make sense, since the iPod shows up just fine in iTunes and syncs without any problems, it is just not showing up in Windows 8.1! When I double click on the iPod, Windows tells me: "The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)"
Does anybody know how to fix this?
    Thanks!

All my itunes songs are protected ACC files and I was wondering if there was any way to convert them to a different file type to work with Windows movie maker.

  • ITunes info into Applescript

I'm just starting with applescript, and i'm trying to create a list or an array with all info from my itunes library. I'd ideally like to form an array such as [trackName, trackArtist, trackGenre, playCount]
    So far I have:
    tell application "iTunes"
set musicArray to the {name, artist, genre, played count} of every track of playlist "Music"
    end tell
    But this seems to create a list in the form {{name0, name1} {artist0, artist1} {genre0, genre1} {pc0, pc1}}
    how can I group the elements such that they are stored {{ name0, artist0, genre0, pc0}{name1, artist1, genre1, pc1}}
Or, how can I reference or call an index in the array similar to
show played count of musicArray[index 0]
    Thanks

For your first question, to group the properties of each item of the playlist you can step through the items, adding the desired properties to a list - for example:
    set musicArray to {}
    tell application "iTunes"
repeat with anItem in every track of playlist "Music"
set end of musicArray to {name, artist, genre, played count} of anItem
      end repeat
    end tell
    set X to 2 -- the index
return fourth item of musicArray's item X -- played count
For your second question, it might read better to create a record, using the names of the properties - for example:
    tell application "iTunes"
set musicRecord to the {|name|:name, |artist|:artist, |genre|:genre, |played count|:played count} of every track of playlist "Music"
    end tell
    set X to 2 -- the index
    return item X of musicRecord's |played count|
Note that I've enclosed the record property names in pipes, since they are iTunes terms (and the space in "played count" can't be used in a variable name otherwise).  This also allows them to be used as regular variables outside of an iTunes tell statement.
