Itunes install and Vista x64 ".ipg" registry permissions issue

Much like similar posts, I tried to upgrade to 8.0.2.20 x64.
It gets almost to the end (on iTunes piece, I think) and stops with:
"HKEYLOCALMACHINE32\Software\Classes\.ipg\OpenWithList\iTunes.exe.
Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact blah...blah...blah"
I initially ran the install "as Administrator". I tried again by logging into the machine as Administrator. Checked permissions on the above Reg key. Uninstalled, cleaned registry. Tried re-install of 8.0.11. Tried the "Switch-less" installs.
NOTHING gets past this registry key. And, of course, I have no iTunes! Quicktime and all the rest appear to be fine.
Somebody smarter than me <everyone!> please offer some relative wisdom or simply a comforting assurance that Apple is listening and cares deeply about our sufferings!
Thanks, h

Well, I have an update.
I used RegSeeker (again) but this time removed every reference to Apple and it's products.
I then went to apple.com thru IE 64bit and redownloaded the 64 bit itunes.
This time - it gave the "QT is corrupt or not present" error.
I went back to apple.com thru IE 64bit and down'd the standalone version of QT. It crapped out on a CLSID registry error (I can post the actual, if anyone cares)
HAS ANYONE HEARD ANY OFFICIAL WORD ON WHETHER APPLE IS ADDRESSING THESE ISSUES!
Thanks, h

    == Error -54 ==
From an OS9 reference, error -54 is a software lock on a file or a permissions error. (Some of the old codes still apply to OSX although there is no formal list of OSX error codes.)
First, try simply restarting your computer.

  • How do connect to internet with Leopard and Vista x64

After installing Leopard, then running Boot Camp and installing Windows Vista x64 I cannot connect to my router, either by Ethernet or Airport. Windows could not detect any wireless network when trying to set up a wireless router. When I try to connect to the router with an Ethernet cable I get an error message telling me to "The underlying Ethernet connectivity required for the broadband connection was not found. Please install and enable the Ethernet adapter on your computer via the Network Connections folder before attempting this connection. I know the router and the MacBook Pro are working because I can connect either with Ethernet or Airport when I am running Leopard. The router is a D Link WBR-2310.

It happened to me as well on Windows XP. I managed to get it to work by changing WEP password on the Airport to WPA/WPA Personal. It seems Windows is finicky about WEP set ups...

  • Unibody MacBook Pro 17, SSD and Vista x64 - Does it work?

I see many discussions about problems with various brands of SSD drives and Vista x64 under Boot Camp.
Can any of you confirm that Vista x64 will install on a unibody MacBook Pro 17" with the Apple-provided 250g SSD option?

It works well. Don't forget to turn the disk defrag off after installing and booting into Vista.

  • Getting static audio with Titanium and Vista x64 at random times

@Getting static audio with Titanium and Vista x64 at random times$ I have had this card for about 6-8 months and relati'vely no issues.
I just upgraded to the latest drivers 270006 and now, sometimes after exiting Turbine's Lotro, my audio plays but is very static-y, but it doesn't happen all the time. I had iTunes minimized when playing Lotro and then went to play a song after exiting. I quit iTunes and tried it again and it was ok.
This also happened in Firefox, a YouTube video had the same static audio.
It doesn't happen all the time and I do play other games, but I haven't been playing much else right now.
So right now I don't know if it's a Lotro thing or just the drivers.
    I have a Q9650, single GTX260, Asus P35 board (not SLI), Vista x64, 4GB.

Carl, do let us know on the Safe Mode test... would be the first thing I'd try with what you've mentioned, but yeah, daisy chained Hubs could possibly play into it.

I just purchased a 120gb iPod classic 6th generation from a friend. I have the latest iTunes installed and the software on the iPod is also current. My problem is whenever I'm syncing the iPod and iTunes freezes between the 250- 300th song... I have to manually reset the iPod for the iTunes to run correctly, but then my music isn't added and iTunes tells me I have to restore the iPod... I've done this numerous times only to no avail... Someone please help!!!

Here is what worked for me:
My usb hub, being usb2, was too fast. I moved the wire to a usb port directory on my pc. That is a usb1 port which is slow enough to run your snyc.

  • ITunes will not work on Fresh INstall of Vista x64 SP1

I have a strange issue. I have a Windows Vista x64 with SP1 (Yes the DVD is a production DVD from Microsoft not a slip stream copy.) and I wanted to do a fresh install of Vista with SP1. Reinstalled OS and everything is running great but iTunes. When I start iTunes I get this error message about "mssip32.dll" being damaged or corrupt please reinstall the app. So I looked around good old Google and apple.com. I found several fixes about re-registering a set of dll files. So did them all, no change. Reinstalled Vista from scratch again, no change. So for the heck of it I reinstalled Vista with no SP1 installed and then applied SP1 and it works fine. I reinstalled Vista with SP1 and have been running it for over a week and everything on the system is tested and solid as a rock with no issues. The only program that will not work is iTunes. I have also tried all the way back to version 7.4 and no luck.
    Any ideas on this?

Read this scary microsoft support article on windows updates?

  • ITunes won't install on Vista x64

I've got a Vista x64 system that crashed a while ago. I've succesfully recovered all of my other programs except for itunes and quicktime. I have tried to uninstall them with a few programs and then reinstalled, but then whenever I try to run it I get a "iTunes has stopped working" message. Any advice?

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315353
It says you need to re-register the DLL.
All I did was google the error message you got -
+The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed.+

  • ITunes 8 and Vista 64 bit - Is it WORKING?

I'm reading all over the place that iTunes 8 is causing the "Blue Screen of Death" crash on Vista 32 bit PC's. Has anyone yet tried it on Vista 64 bit and been successful? I have a iPhone 3G and an iPod Classic 160GB - I only mention that because the crash issue might be specific to drivers for certain devices only, so let me know what you tried it with if you have it working (or not).
    Tony

working fine for me in vista x64
Installer crashed a few times installing it, but it almost finished installing before crashing once, and it seems to work fine now. Help->about says it's version 8, and it has that "genius" thing on the side, so it is correcet.
    also, iphone is syncing fine

  • New update 1.1.3, new itunes 7 and vista 64

I am glad that with the new itunes and iphone updates that my iphone now works on my vista 64 laptop.
Also, i had to resync different music and videos which wasnt bad since when it didnt work with 64 before i backed up and transfered everything to my desktop with xp 32.
However, i also backed up my ringtones and put them onto my laptop (with vista 64) and they sync and stay on my iphone but when in itunes and under ringtones it shows the ! next to the ringtones and says to find source which i made a folder onto my main screen for that. They stay on my phone when syncing but im just wondering why it says it cant locate them.
Also, i retrieved all of my purchases but it seems some of them havent synced to my iphone.
One more thing, i have no contacts on my laptop under windows address book but i would like to sync them from my iphone to my laptop with ou losing any. i have read that some people have lost contacts trying this and i cannot afford that. Can anyone help me out and tell me how to go about this and also help with them ringtone issue (though not that big of deal since they stay on my phone anyway.).
    Thank you...

So, from what I've seen, that error seems to have much to do with a Windows Installer + permissions issue. I have a feeling that for now, you'll have trouble uninstalling or installing anything that uses the Windows Installer.
    One suggestion:
Download and save the iTunes installer file (instead of simply running it)
Once it's saved, right-click on it and choose Properties
Uncheck the 'read-only' option of it's selected and click OK
Then see if you can run the installer
If it still doesn't work, it looks as though you'd have to repair permissions in Vista, which I'm not quite sure how to do. Some sites suggest the only "supported" way to do this is to reinstall Vista (eek).

  • Itunes 8 and vista

Original iphone model (not 3G) downloaded itunes 8 and can no longer sync phone with outlook. computer intermitantly recognizes iphone and then crashes-blue screen.
Been on phone with reps three times, all wasted time-uninstall reinstall etc. Unhook printers?? all useless and did not work.
Others have had this issue, is there a solulution?

I have Vista Ultmate 64 and I do have problems with itunes (ver 8.0) + Iphone 3G (ver 2.1). I have an ipod nano that works perfectly in Itunes (ver 8.0) in Vista Ultimate. But when I plug in the iPhone 3G in Vista 64, the operating system recognizes the device as Digital Still Camera and thus itunes does not recognize it. I tried to chance the driver to Apple Mobile Device USB without success. All Apple services are working and up.
I have another computer (a laptop) with Windows XP Pro (with Service Pack 3) with Itunes ver 8.0 installed that worked perfectly with the iPhone 3G when I bought it originally in WashDc last week ago. The version of the iPhone 3G in that moment was 2.0.XX and as I said it worked fine. Then, while in DC, when I tried to upgrade the iPhone 3G to version 2.1 from my WinXP laptop, it gave me problems and errors to the point that i have to go to the Apple Store in Pentagon City mall to fix it and get ver 2.1 installed. Since then until now, when I plug in my iPhone in my WinXp laptop, a BSOD appears and thus rendering the iPhone USELESS as an Ipod to hear my downloaded songs and to sync my calendar items and task items from Outlook.
My educated guess definately is that it has to do with the version 2.1 of the iPhone 3G and the interaction with the latest version of itunes installed on a Windows system.
So the question: is there a new patch from Apple for this?

  • Toolbox won't install on Vista x64 with HP Business Inkjet 1100

To install my HP 1100 on Vista x64, I was redirected to the only compatible driver which was for the HP 1000.  The printer works, but has lost some of it's features such as double sided printing and the Toolbox to monitor ink levels.  A search of the forums suggested installing OJProK550_Toolbox_en.exe, but after installing that I can't get it to function because it states the driver hasn't been installed.  What driver?  I'm confused since I have the functional driver for this printer installed and even reinstalled through New Drivers to be sure I had the latest.  I suspect the conflict and failure has something to do with this optional driver I had to use.
Can anyone offer some suggestions please?  I hate to wait until my ink cartridges are empty before finding I need one (it usually happens on a weekeng!)
Interestingly, I "scabbed" this printer to my laptop running XP x32 and from there I can do doublesided printing, but cannot access the toolbox either.

Hello, have you tried using the PCL 5 UPD? In my experience, PCL 5 runs better and is not glitchy which seems what was going on before you uninstalled it. Also, how do you have the IP addresses setup for your home network?

  • Shockwave won't install on Vista x64?

When I try to install (both web and standalone EXE) on my
Vista x64 system, I get the error
"Could not load the DLL library
    C:\Windows\system32\Macromed\Shockwave 10\gi.dll". The application
has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is
incorrect. Please see the application event log for more detail.
Any ideas how I can get around this? Odd that it's trying to
install a 32-bit app in system32 instead of the SysWOW64 directory
    like it should...

Adobe doesn't care about you or your problems. Go away.
To get around this problem you would probably have to
disassemble the installer and then place the dlls into the correct
folders yourself. Adobe appears uninterested in doing anything. I'm
kind of pissed off, can you tell? On the plus side this is a great
opportunity for a competitor to take advantage of Adobe's
    incompetence.

  • No rear speaker sound with Audigy 4 and Vista x64

I recently upgraded to Vista x64. I downloaded the 6.0..24 driver for x64. I also loaded MediaSource for x64. I am using analog 5. surround speakers from Dell. This setup works fine when I boot into XP pro (with the XP drivers), but I only get front, center and Sub in Vista x64. Does anyone have any ideas for this?

Not sure what to tell you, hopefully someone will be able to help. One curious thing though is that according to my Sound properties in Control Panel SPDIF is working on my Audigy 4,

unfortunately I don't have anything that uses SPDIF to be able to test it.
Also have you tried installing the X-Fi drivers yet? Download, extract with Winrar (or whatever you use) and navigate to the Drivers sub-folder and run the Setup.exe there.

  • Satelite A300-1GN and Vista x64 driver support

    Hi,
I am (happy?) owner of this model for 2 days.
However it seemes logically that if this notebook can support up to 8GB RAM (i bought with 4GB) there should be possibility to install x64 operating system.
It seems, but it's not like I see. There are no drivers for x64 MS Systems on Toshiba official website to download.
Well, I am able to understand you do not want to support Win XP x64, because this system is getting older.
I can not understand how it's possible that every large company supports Vista x64 for their devices and Toshiba do not.
It seems perverse that you do not deliver suitable drivers and I really can't believe that.
I am wonder and i hope the main reason is that product I own is a new model and the drivers appears soon.
E.g. Satelite A200 has x64 support despite its a lower and weaker model...
I hope we can expect that our doubts will be explaining, and Toshiba will not slight their custommers longer, but will incline to our requests.
If I am mistaking of looking for needed drivers, then want to apologize for my post,
but if I am not wrong I will be satisfied to hear rational answer and ensure that the drivers will comming soon!
    regards
    Kuba

Well I really hope it will be.
Mabye can you tell me how long does it usually take to support the drivers for 64bit systems for new model by toshiba?
If I will have to wait e.g. 2 years there will be no sense to wait for them. If does it usually take about few months I will be waiting carefully.
Or mabye somebody can give me advice if there is a sense trying to find needed drivers on devics producers sites?
Finally my question is, if models having nearly the same devices and configurations like sat a300-1GN and sat a300-15B are probably using the same drivers?
If there are the same graphic cards the same webcam the same loudspeaker? :)
Is there any sense to try drivers for this devices for sat a200 series?
I am sure i will try to install Vista x64 for few days so i am satisfied for all tips i will get here.
    Greetings,
    Kuba
