ITunes install error for windows! How do I fix?

When I try to install itunes I get the following error:
Error 1406. Could not write value to key \Software\Classes\.cdda\OpenWithList\iTunes.exe. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key or contact your support personnel.
How do I fix this problem.
Thanks!

You may have a problem with your registry permissions.
Sometimes creating another administrator account and installing from there may work around this.
Apple have this article on the registry key mentioned in your error:
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2294?viewlocale=en_US
Otherwise try method 3 in this article:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949377/en-us
It is quite complicated to do, so follow the method carefully, the script can take quite a long time to run so be patient with it.

Taken at face value, you're having trouble with an Apple Application Support program file there. (Apple Application Support is where single copies of program files used by multiple different Apple programs are kept.)
Let's try something relatively simple first. Restart the PC. Now head into your Uninstall a program control panel, select "Apple Application Support" and then click "Repair".
If no joy after that, try the more rigorous uninstall/reinstall procedure from the following post:

  • Itunes insall error for windows 7

when trying to update to the latest version of iTunes via the apple software update, i keep getting the error message:
"iTunes" has an invalid signature and will not install.
    What can I do?
And if I have to reinstall the program from the apple website, will it cause me to lose all my saved files?
Any help or advice is much appreciated.

Go directly to Apple link to download
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1426
Select "Save" instead of "Run". Once downloaded, double click the iTunesetup.exe or iTunes64Setup.exe to install.
iTunes library and media folders are stored at a different location and therefore any new or re-installation will not affect your files.  However, it is vital to backup these folders to incase of mishaps.

  • TS3212 ITUNES download error for windows 8

After I install itunes an error message pops up saying apple application support was not found. I have uninstalled and re installed 5 times and still the same message pops up.  Is there anyone else who has this problem?

Let's try a standalone Apple Application Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of the issue.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleApplicationSupport.msi to do a standalone AAS install.
Does it install properly for you?
If instead you get an error message during the install, let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

  • Itunes install switches for Windows? (example, itunes.exe /r /s /u), etc..

I'm Looking for any information available on switches to automate the install of itunes, including options for disabling the quicktime system tray icon, and unchecking the option to make quicktime the default player.

I've never seen anything like that, unattended install of iTunes.
Although I have seen some iTunes registry entries with switches...nothing like you've asked for, though.

  • Install error DF024. How do I fix this?

Attempting to install Photoshop CC 2014 on my Mac but after 84% complete I get an error message: DF024: Unable to preserve original file at "/Applications/Adobe Photoshop CC 2014/Adobe Photoshop CC2014.app/Contents/Frameworks/ICUConvert.

SirAlmost do you already have an existing installation of Photoshop CC 2014?  I would recommend removing your current installation utilizing the steps listed in Install and update apps - https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/help/install-apps.html.  You can then reinstall through the Creative Cloud Desktop application.

    Hello,
I am Trying to install iTunes 12.1 for Windows 8.1 (64-bit) and I get an Itunes window with an error that says:

    I already:
    - Uninstalled all old Itunes versions.
    - Tried a clean reboot to install the new version,
    - Installed the security update’ Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package ATL Security Update’
But I still get the same error.
    Can someone help?
    Thanks!

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
If you still have trouble you might consider installing the alternate version iTunes 12.1 for Windows (64-bit — for older video cards) where you can download a 64-bit installer for the 32-bit version of iTunes that works with older video cards. This version may also be useful for anyone who is unable to get the 64-bit version of Apple Application Support to install when using the itunes6464setup file, or has trouble with playback of certain video files despite having QuickTime installed.

  • ITunes Error 7 (Windows error 127) after installing iTunes 64-bit for Windows

After installing iTunes 64-bit for Windows (latest build), I get an error pop-up saying:
iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes
    Error 7 (Windows error 127)
I've gone thru the uninstall, reboot and reinstall process three or four times now. Still nothing.
Furthermore, after clicking okay to the error, it continues to pop up on it's own every 45 seconds or so.
There was one other error I came across after trying to launch iTunes after installation.
    See both error messages here:

Brilliant. Thanks a lot. I've wasted a couple of hours on this nasty bug, & trying all the other suggestions across various threads again and again.
I now find I had the same registry entry hanging on, despite uninstalling & wiping everything again and again. Having now deleted this key, (I don't even have an iPod), & iTunes 11.1.14 now opens at long last.
But WHY is this bug not fixed? Enough people are suffering with this across the forum. WHERE is Apple support on this?
It should have been added to their page at
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
    by now, why hasn't it???
    It's not good enough!
    Re:
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SharedDlls]

AHA! This entry for iPodService.exe still exhisted.  So I had no folders on the PC, no installs on the PC and no services running.... BUT this was still in the Registry.
Step 5 - Delete only the Registry entry above.  NO REBOOT
    Step 6 - Reinstall iTunes64.exe

That one's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.
XP instructions in the following document: How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards?
