ITunes install hangs at 95%, registering
Installing iTunes hangs at 95%, registering components, and goes no further. I've followed all the advice for cleaning out temp files, turning off antivirus software, removing old versions of iTunes and QuickTime. No success. Any suggestions?
hi Dan!
hmmmm. are you running Cygwin?
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302290
if that doesn't seem to be a factor, let's try switching off
b all
background applications prior to the install:
http://consumer.installshield.com/kb.asp?id=Q108377
if no joy with that, let's try working through the other InstallShield Tips and Pointers:

keep us posted.

Itunes install hangs at "registering itunes automation server"
Windows 8 - 64 bit
Loaded latest Quick Time.
uninstalled itunes ...rebooted...tried installing again but still hangs at "registering itunes automation server"
When I click on "cancel" install...it starts to roll back and says "Files missing"
ThanksFor general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there are also links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

Itunes install hangs due to ringtones.xib error?
When I try to upgrade or uninstall then reinstall Itunes 7.7, I get an error statement that reads:
error writing to file C:\program files\itunes\itunes.resources\ko.lproj\ringtone.nib\objects.xib. Verify that you have access to that directory
I have Windows XP and I am the only one with an account on this computer. Any ideas? Why use the STATIC flag? Doing so overwrites the patch-in-place function
This is by design. The machines being built are on a closed network that will throw security alerts whenever unexpected network calls are made (e.g. an auto update poll).
Can you just run <installer> /s ?
As part of the troubleshooting process I have run it with all flags in all combinations, including the basic "/s". The dialog is thrown regardless.
If there's a problem, maybe you should try the offline installer?
This is the offline installer. It's not exactly offline. Quite exasperating to be honest.

Install hanging when registering automation server
I'm tearing my hair out, as well as getting my 4rse kicked by the other half!
We've had iTunes up and running on our Vista Home Premium box for a while, then it just stopped working coming up with an error.
So I've tried re-installing, but 7.3 keeps hanging when trying to register the automation server. Worst still I have to kill it with Task Manager and it leaves a partial install that refuses to uninstall!
Any guidance would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
StuartRegistering Automation Server hangs are actually a 7.x.x.x thing rather than a 7.3.0.54 thing. I've seen them with 7.2.0.x too.
Perhaps try this strategy.
First download and then install the QuickTime standalone installer:
Latest Quicktime Installers … get the one that doesn’t mention iTunes
If that install goes through properly, then try another iTunes install.
(The theory here is that if your QuickTime is already up to date, the iTunes installer bundle skips the QuickTime part of the install. If the iTunes installer is given less to do, sometimes it gets past the Registering Automation Server hang.) -
Install of Itunes 7.0.1 fails - "registering modules"
New install of Itunes 7.0.1 fails/freezes at end of install during the process "registering modules". I'm forced to kill the install and go back to version 6. Any ideas and or suggestions for getting the new version to load??
Thanks!!!We are looking for some more information on this issue. If the iTunes 7.0 or 7.0.1 installation is hanging at "Registering Modules" please follow these steps:
1. Choose Run from the Start menu.
2. Enter this text and press Return:
msinfo32
3. Choose Save from the File menu.
4. Save the file as "sysinfo" to your desktop.
5. Attach this file to an email to me.
Please make the subject line of the email "Registering Modules" and let me know what version of Windows you are using. -
ITunes 9 hangs while installing. msiexec ?
Hi guys
I've been trying to install the latest iTunes on my PC, without luck.
I have version 8 installed, but seems there's something hidden that makes latest iTunes hang
Look: the installation keeps looooong time on this step. Same happens if I download and run the iTunes installer separately
http://i26.tinypic.com/2j2ccig.jpg
1. I have win XP SP3 with latest upgrades
2. I've run CCleaner
3. I've antivirus software up to date
4. I've run the Windows installer Cleanup utility
Do you know what else I could try to make iTunes install?
Thanks,So what do you want to do, rollback to v8 or troubleshoot v9?
+BTW, I previously tried to uninstall iTunes 9 and re-install iTunes 8. But 8 wouldn't run - it just gave me an error message re the library having been created by a later version.+
Yes, I saw that and my first reply said to get the itunes v8 ITL file out of the folder named *Previous iTunes Library*. Every time itunes updates, it saves a copy of the older version's ITL file in that folder.
If you want to go back to v8, you can't use a v9 ITL file, since v9 has a different structure.
You will get that "created by a later version" error.
You go and get the v8 ITL file from Previous iTunes Libraries and use that with v8. It should be easy to find, since it's named with the date you ran the v9 upgrade.
+"'System Configuration' An Access Denied error was returned while attempting to change a service. You may need to log on using an Administrator Account to make the specified changes."+
+Far as I know, my normal log-on account is an administrator account. Is there a way to check that?+
If you are on an admin account, you should be able to modify all the services on your machine.
Sigh. That tells me your XP permissions are messed up. You probably are running with an admin account. XP permissions are easily corrupted, apparently, because Microsoft has a special tool to fix them. They don't put special tools on their website to fix things, unless a problem is fairly widespread.
It's this subinacl tool:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949377
I realize that article talks about SP3 upgrades, but it fixes permissions for many other issues.

ITunes 5 Won't Install -- Hangs on Unscheduling Apple Updates
Windows 7 64bit
Trying to update from last version to new version. Install goes until it hits the part where the dialog box says "Unscheduling Apple Software Update," the green bars goes a partial way, stops, retreats. Another dialog box appears and says "There is a problem with this Windows Installation Package. A program required for this installation could not be run. Contact..."
Then it backs out and reverts to the original/last iTunes version.
Tried disabling AV and Firewall...no joy.
Any suggestions?
Thanx!using MSICUU2.exe didn't help me. But, the new replacement app did:
http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall
I fixed my problem like this:
Here's the deal -
1. can you install itunes via the APPLE SOFTWARE updater?
I couldn't so I downloaded ITUNES and tried to install it that way. Hence I got the same error hang as you. Nothing worked, (Multiple attempts at uninstall reinstall, stopping of Services, Reg cleaners etc..)
2. If answer is NO to #1 you must fixe the APPLE SOFTWARE UPDATE Program.
OK so I couldn't find a Download for this. But: if you have WINRAR, open the ITUNES.EXE and extract the APPLESOFTWAREUPDATE.MSI file. Execute the APPLESOFTWAREUPDATE.MSI separately. And you will not be able to install it and have a similar issue as per your Itunes install. This of course leads you to believe that the Itunes.exe install is also installing all of these components including the applesoftwareupdate silently. It must BOMB at that portion of the install and you are done.
3. Your goal now is to get the applesoftwareupdate installed. How do you do this. Well - here is what I did.
a. downloaded and RUN a PC Installer FIX it tool from Microsoft. This is a replacement for the older MSI fixer they used to use.
http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall
b. It will list programs to attempt to fix.
choose AppleSoftwareUpdate.msi
c. Once it is done, then reinstall apple program updater using
AppleSoftwareUpdate.msi
Finally it should install since the Microsoft tool appraently fixed corrupted installation files in your registry for this application.
(Please note: that I also disabled any apple related services such as BONJOUR or IPOD DEvice RUN: services.msc to get there - although this man not be necesarry.)
Hence Launch this APPLE UPDATE SOFTWARE (Click the ICON in your Start menu) it should list ITUNES
select ITUNES from here and it will update.
KEY HERE is to ONLY UPDATE APPLE Stuff via the APPLE SOFTWARE UPDATE program. If that program is not working fix it. Then Bingo.
I am sorry to see folks having this problem for weeks.
APPLE, Spread the word. PC's can get corruption in the registry on your product should the update be stopped or computer shut off during an update. etc... Please improve your software updater program to check for invalid registry upon launching the app. This will prevent people thinking it is an APPLE issue. It appears to be a problem on your PC's registry settings for the APPLE Software update.

Hi, I installed iOS6 beta without registering it to the developer program. Now on iTunes and on my phone I get the same "We're unable to complete your activation" error. What do I do?
You have to restore your phone. To do this turn off your phone and disconnect it from your pc or mac. You then have to plug in the usb part of your sychronize cable into your pc or mac. Open itunes. Now press and hold on the home button on your iphone and plug the cable into it while still holding down the home button. Your iphone will now be in recovery mode and on itunes you will see the option that says restore. Click on that and your phone will be restored to factory settings. If you backed up your itunes all your apps will be downloaded back on to your phone. Including all your contacts and text messages. It took me a couple of tries to restore my phone when this happened so if it doesnt work the first time do it again. Took me two tries. This video will help you out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jzyy4puapig

On my new desktop, I've been fighting to install itunes. This was frought with problems from the first try, but I'll skip all those sordid details. Escalating from some earlier more simple attempts to uninstall & reinstall iTunes, I just went through what must be the Ultimate exhaustive complete uninstall process, shown at support.apple.com/kb/HT1926 (Completely Remove iTunes and Quicktime). As this section instructs, I then reinstalled iTunes from a fresh download. Between the uninstall and reinstall, my system shut down normally, with no hangs. As always, though, with itunes installed, I get an interruption at shutdown:
svchost.exe Application Error
The instruction at "0x77dd6bcc" referenced memory at "0x77dd6bcc". The memory could not be "written".
Three more clicks of "cancel" on that advisory only serve to shift the code a few digits or letters (i.e. 0x77df5655, etc), and then the system is hung for good on "Saving Your Settings..."
This hang did't happen before my attempts at installing itunes.
On my last two attempts at this, at least the radio function has come back - nothing worked before. But I can't tolerate a hang at shutdown in my life - it'll happen every time from now on & who knows what else will be affected by this.
Any help appreciated.<bump>

every time I repair my iPod with iTunes, it hangs at the end of the process (while checkin the recovery of iPod). What can I do?
I chose to restore it to factory defaults, but that never succeeded.
It hangs at the end of the process.
printscreen:
http://users.telenet.be/kevvanbelle/iPod/ipod.JPG
Language is Dutch :-)
Littery it says:
Check of Recovery of iPod.
Already for 40 minutes.
I closed down iTunes.
Now, when I turn on my iPod, there is the icon of iTunes with an usb cable towards it.
When I attach it to my computer and turn on iTunes, the message is there that a iPod was stuck in recovery mode and I should retry it.
And then I get the same story. Unpacking, installing, checking... blocked! -

ITunes installed but will not open...HELP!!!
Hey,
I've been trying to get my iTunes re-installed as it seemed to just stop working. I'm in a right pickle as I'm working on the play list for my upcoming wedding...
I've removed and reinstalled about 3 times now (on Chrome and IE) and everything seems to go OK with the install but when I try to open the iTunes from the desktop, nothing happens. I can open QT no problem.
Please help as this couldn't have happened at a worse time and I'm running out of ideas.
Thanks,
SteveFirst check to see if iTunes.exe remains running on the processes tab of the Task Manager, even though iTunes does not open.
If it does, it means iTunes is hanging during start up. This can be caused by bonjour as suggested by the previous poster.
If that doesn't work here is a method for troubleshooting this type of launch failure in Windows XP.

Troubleshooting silent launch failure in Windows XP
Before checking if iTunes works, restart your PC or close the iTunes.exe process with task manager if it is running.
A couple of simple things to try:
XP
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1776?viewlocale=en_US
Vista
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2363?viewlocale=en_US
Stop the bonjour service, this FAQ has instructions:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2250?viewlocale=en_US
But usually it is due to a problem with cryptographic services.
Check to see if you have your smart card service and that it is not set to disabled. For some reason iTunes needs it.
Start>>Run>>Services.msc
you should find the smart card service in the list. Report back with your findings.
Malware can interfere with cryptographic services and also prevent a resolution so it is important to check that your system is clean before proceeding: Run a virus and spyware scan with up to date definitions.
Then work through *Method 4* in the following link:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822798
You should be able to copy and paste the individual lines to save on typing.
Make a careful note of any error messages you get, they are important for diagnosis. Report back any error messages especially the names of any dlls mentioned.
If there are no errors try starting iTunes.

Problem closing iTunes - iTunes.exe hanging.
I have been having a problem restarting iTunes EXCEPT on a reboot or by manually ending the iTunes.exe process. iTunes.exe is hanging.....it is not using any CPU, but memory usage reduces to about 95,000k, and, of course, I have to end the process before I can restart iTunes.
I finally figured out that this problem occurs only when I have been streaming music through Apple Express. In other words, Apple Express is preventing iTunes from closing.I experimented around and reformated, and began reinstalling programs one by one as a test, starting first with iTunes. It worked just fine. Low and behold, the next program I installed was my antivirus/spyware program. It recreated the problem I had been having for the last year or so. I tried putting exceptions in the application configuration, but that didn't make any difference. Surprisingly, even stopping/disabling the program didn't work either. Completely uninstalling the program did - meaning there were conflicts between the installed components of the Antivirus/spyware program and the iTunes/Airport Express. Now I've got to go find another spyware/antivirus program. But, the question remains, why should a antivirus/spyware program, disabled at that, ie, stopped, cause iTunes to hang after streaming music through Airport Express??? Strange.
