ITunes install wizard freezes up at same point everytime.

Trying to install the latest version of itunes and everytime I get the section of install wizard where it shows the picture of the girl and guy and it says iPod and iTunes Born to be Together, you click "next" and absolutely nothing happens and it just freezes up. I've tried like 5 times and same thing everytime. Have no idea what's going on -- anyone that can help??

Hi buschden
Please look through the forums. You will see most often problems are caused by antivirus/antispy software conflicting with iTunes.
Ensure you always download the iTunes programme to your pc (save to desktop for example) not try to install online and disable AV/Spy software before you try to run the intall.
If you have done this, it may be your chosen AV software and/or firewall is not allowing iTunes to start up. Check the setting on your software in this regard.
I appreciate it is very frustrating when this happens, but be patient and search the forums. There are fixes for just about every problem!:)

• Itunes install wizard launching when not needed.

Hello,
I have the latest version of Itunes successfully loaded on my windows XP laptop. I recently needed to use the USB port that I keep my IPOD plugged into for a USB thumb drive. Now when I connect my IPOD to my laptop the install wizard pops up. When I click cancel ITunes successfully launches. How can I get this wizard to stop poping up as I do not need it?
Thanks.
Burke D.

I am a PC Tech and had a customer with this issue. Ran across this post in my search and ended up finding the solution on my own. The problem isn't with the iTunes software but the installer for the GEARAspi drivers. Really the issues is with the file type asssociations in the windows registry. On the system I was working on the HKCR key for .exe should point to the exefile key but pointed to nothing. To fix it create a new txt document and paste the following in (only paste what is in between the

tags):
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.exe]
@="exefile"
"Content Type"="application/x-msdownload"
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.exe\PersistentHandler]
@="{098f2470-bae0-11cd-b579-08002b30bfeb}"
Now change the extension from .txt to .reg. Then right click and select merge. iTunes should now install properly.

Hi Guys,
i need some help with my TM that suddenly freezes the computer, the only way out is to hard reset the system.
the TM freezes always at the same point...i tried another HD, but TM freezes also with other HD's.
Tried formatting the drive and back up the whole computer...same thing..
Any suggestions?
thanks....

There's likely a directory problem on your internal HD.
Verify it, per #A5 in [Time Machine - Troubleshooting|http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/Troubleshooting.html] (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of the +Time Machine+ forum).
Since you had to force power off, Repair your backups, too, per #A5.

• Cannot install USB device, install wizard freezes when installing SiLib.sys

Hello,
I have installed LabView and all the software required for running a program for tremor evaluation. When I plug a TremorScope via USB connection it starts Hardware Installation wizard, but the installation does not complete and system freezes when installing SiLib.sys. The OS is Windows XP.
Do you have any solution how to finish the installation or what is going wrong. Thank you for your help.

Why don't you ask the vendor of the device? It does not have anything to do with LabVIEW.

• Song freezes at the same point

I've looked for hours and apparently no one has come up with a solution for this problem. I bought a song from itunes about a year ago. And then a few months ago, this very song began to stop playing at exactly 1:12. I can skip past that mark and the song will play through. This is also not the only song doing it but I've noticed that of the songs that are doing it, they have all come from itunes.
All of the songs can be played perfectly from itunes/quicktime so this song itself is not the problem. I've done all the 5 R's to no resolve. This is making me rethink if I should stay with an ipod for my next mp3.

if it worked for all that time and then suddenly stopped playing correctly, there's a good chance it became corrupt on your computer's hard drive and the error makes it unplayable on your iPod. That would be the fault of your computer hardware or Windows file management.
A small error of one bad block or two would still make it playable on a computer with a much more powerful CPU that would ignore or push through the problem. An iPod with a much more limited and design specific chip would choke on the same error.
Use a disk utility on your computer's hard drive and then erase your iPod and load it back up with the music. Hopefully the corruption error your computer caused can be repaired.

• Install wizard freezing at "Updating environment strings"

Since September of last year, when ever I try to install Quicktime, regardless of the iTunes bundle or the standalone version, it would always go well until it says "Updating environment strings". And then it would just stop. I even got out all the malware that I thought was eating up my computer.
HP Pavilion 503n   Windows XP Pro   it totally *** whe it comes to gaming (64MB Intel Video,) 40GB HDD, 17" Flat Panel Monitor, 2 CD-RW,

so after months of reading forums and pulling my hair out..here's what I did to get to work: ( windows XP pro )
after a fresh reboot:
1. Open a windows explorer window.
2. right click on C:\ ( or your main windows drive )
3. ->properties->security
4. this will display all users and their permissions to this folder. click on add, enter your user name, and give yourself full access....this will take a while, it recursively sets the permissions of every file and folder on this drive for you to have full access ( I know, it sounds dangerous, and it probably is..but I got really f'ing frustrated..and had to go to extreme measures ).
5. right click on the QuickTimeInstaller.exe file->run as: click off of the check box that says "Protect My Computer From Unauthorized .....etc..." - click on OK..
6. I chose a folder other than the default ( I think ...\QuickTime3 )
and I just about soiled myself when it actually worked...I hope it does for you !!!

Try to reboot your computer.  If that doesn't work, try deleting the movie and redownloading it (assuming no other AppleID is associated with your computer).
If neither of those work, try contacting the iTunes store.

• ITunes TV episode freezes

I just downloaded a tv episode for the first time and am trying to watch in on my computer. The shows keeps freezing at the same point every time I try to watch it. any thoughts?

I downloaded iTunes TV Battlestar Galactica episode 1 season 3 and it plays in iTunes on my Windows XP pro OS but it freeze frames. If i make it be a really small window in the screen about the size of an ipod and it does a lot better.
When i "get info" about it, it says it is MPEG 4 and it is playing at 128kbs. I cannot find a place to change the datarate or bit rate to a faster speed. It says it can play up to 1meg buty it does not allow me to change the datarate.
I cannot find anywhere in iTunes to change it and I tried to play it in WMP or Real player but it will not let me.
I have it on my hard drive and I know my computer plays video and animations no problem from the hard drive since I have content on the hard drive that plays fine in WMP, Quicktime and Real even if I go full screen.
Does anyone know how to fix it or to download another copy for free? I cannot figure out how to report it directly to Apple either. They make it extremely difficult by putting you in these endless loops where you never really get to communicate with anyone or even find a phone number or an email to send to someone.

• Yet more vanishing iTunes install questions

Greetings all,
I realize that numerous people are having this problem, and numerous solutions exist, but I'm seriously at a loss trying to figure this out right now.
Basically, the situation is this: I'm trying to help someone install iTunes on their school-issued PC laptop, and it seems to be suffering from the widespread vanishing installation problem (that is, the iTunes install runs right up to the point prior to the QuickTime install, then disappears and takes everything it did with it, desktop icon and all.)
I'm aware that the root cause of this problem seems to have to do with the setting of administrative rights under WinXP (Home in this case, by the way.)
Thus far, I've done the following relevant things listed in other threads in attempt to fix it:
1. Ran Windows Update and made sure that all critical updates were installed.
2. Checked the User Rights Assignments in the Local Security Policy section of the control panel as suggested in numerous posts. SERVICE and Administrator were NOT to be found there. Can these be added manually? If so, what is the proper way to do it?
3. Went through HKEYLOCALMACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\Current Version\Setup\Recovery Console and set the Security Level value to 1. This didn't seem to have any beneficial effect (this was switched back to 0 after failing to work.. I assume that's the wise thing to do?)
4. Tried using the "Run as..." option on the iTunes installer both before and after having done all of these things. This presented a problem in and of itself, which I'll describe shortly.
5. I have not tried installing QuickTime separately, but my understanding is that they had already attempted that previously.
6. I've run SpyBot in an attempt to clear out Spyware, as well as F-Prot for viruses. Obviously, though, neither of those things appear to be the cause of this problem. Additionally, I've made sure virus scanning was turned off during attempts to install iTunes.
So, I'm not really sure where to go from here. Now, as noted above, this is a university-purchased laptop (Dell, but I am not sure of the exact model off hand; though I can find out if need be.) This leads to most vexing question I have:
Is it theoretically possible that this computer, being set up and administered by the school itself, would only allow administrative service to the school's Computer Network Services department which handles them? Going back to point 4 above, I noted that there were several different logins available on the "Run as..." menu, only one of which seems to be accessible to the students themselves (their personal login.) As noted however, there are other logins present on the "Run as..." menu, including one marked with the student's name + "administrator." Logically, I would expect that the students would have access to this since it bears their names, but we don't seem to have any password that works. Is it possible there's a default password in this case?
My inclination at the moment is to take it to the CNS desk and enquire about it, since all of the other logins have passwords unknown to us. Whether or not they would be able to help, I'm not sure. But I'm at a loss for other ideas at present, aside from playing with variations of the other steps I've taken.
That being the case, if anyone could offer any advice (assuming you understand this mess I've posted here :P,) either in regard to the aforementioned or anything else I haven't tried, it would be greatly appreciated.
She's tried calling apple support already, and after spending several hours on the phone, they told her they didn't understand what was wrong and that she should have the HD re-imaged. That seems a last-resort sort of thing to me, however, and I'm finding it difficult to believe that there is no more reasonable solution to this problem.
So once again, if anyone can offer any helpful advice, I thank you very much in advance!

Oh yes, we actually just tried the "delayed install" with 4.9 a little while ago and I'm quite happy to say it did the trick (with a bit of trial and error and a fair amount of quirkiness, at any rate.)
i keep getting these startling mental images of people hunched over their PCs, mice poised and ready to strike at the offending processes ... still, beats uninstalling and reinstalling SP2 ...
there's some nice work going on in the forum community on the =0/lady-vanishes problems at the moment. may be worth periodically checking in on progress. we may not get a one-size-fits-all-solution, but we may well make some more progress on some of the epicycles relevant to your situation.
love, b

• Can't Download ITunes or QuickTime, Download stops at the same point

Hi, i have a problem: when i try to upgrade to Itunes 10.1 through Apple Software Update( but also when i've tried to do directly through Apple site ) , the download starts but it stops all the times at the same point ( just 7,50MB ... ). I've tried everything: i changed my firewall options, i've disabled Norton Smart Firewall, i've uninstalled Itunes and ALL Apple Components in EVERY folders then i've re-installed it using a itunes.exe taken from another computer (because ANY apple download is not possible through my computer, i don't know why, but before everything worked! ), but nothing.... Download stop at the same point.
PLEASE HELP ME!!!
(Sorry for my bad english and sorry if i'm in wrong discussion, but i've not found nothing similar to my issue )

No, i can't download ANYTHING, neither through Apple site nor through the Itunes software upgrade. Neither just Quicktime nor just ITunes. Both downloads stop and freeze after few MB. I'm going crazy to find why all this happening to me..... Maybe it's because i've installed another application and now it goes in conflict with iTunes?!? ( two months ago i've downloaded new codecs audio and video with K-Lite Codec Pack, plus Media Player Classic, but during installation i've lefted mp4 files association with iTunes ).

I can't Start, Uninstall of Install new iTunes. I'm getting the same error message: "Window Installer Service could not be accessed". No other programs having similar problem. Any suggestions how to fix it?

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) (not for XP) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there are also links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.
