Itunes installation causes my DVD drive to disappear

Hello,
I wondered if anyone had any advice for me. Every time install Itunes on my Sony Vaio laptop the installation automatically uninstalls my DVD drive. I spoke to Sony and they said this was common and took me through a process of deleting two files that the Itunes installation adds to my computer. Deleting these files then allows me to reinstall my DVD drive.
The issue I have is in doing this it corrupts the Itunes, in that it says it can't burn the music and I have to reinstall it...but reinstalling Itunes only takes of my DVD drive!
Has anyone experiences similar problems and could you please offer me some advice? Thank you
Vicky

does show up as a disk drive in device manager
are there any alert/warning messages next to the drive in Device Manager? in particular, are you seeing a code 41 message?

  • Help needed - itunes installs and CD/DVD drives go missing!?!?

Bought a 30GB ipod last week, first one I have had. I install the software, do everything as I should, but when itunes installs my CD and DVD drives dissapear from my computer, and wont read any disks. Only way to get them back is do a system restore to before itunes was installed. Every time I try the same thing happens.
Any advice please? Im up the wall here!!

    Hi B!!
Sorry for the delay in coming back to you, been really busy. Okay, I followed your instructions, and managed to solve that problem. I then encountered various other problems, which I wont go into for the sake of my sanity lol, but instead of coming back and questioning you I searched the forus and found all the answers I needed. Most of them from you again funnily enough!!
In all it took the best part of 3 days to get in sorted and downloading fine. My computer knowedge is probably slightly above average, but some of the things I had to do to get there in the end was way over my head, but thanks to your great guidance notes I managed to get there, and must say Im thrilled with the end results. Am now in the process of downloading al my albums to the Ipod which is my new favourite most treasured possession
Anyway, thanks ever so much for the assistance again, if I encounter any more problems I know who to call!! Your a star, cheers.
    Ian.

  • ITunes installation made CD/DVD drive dissapear for Windows Vista

Ok, so I got a new PC last week with Windows Vista. Everything had been working just fine until today (or today I realized)that Vista stopped recognizing my CD/DVD drive. After several hours I found that the problem was caused by iTunes and some GEAR software/drivers that it uses for burning CDs. So I logged on to GEAR's website to D/L the latest drivers, installed them, but still nothing happened. I then unistalled them, rebooted and still the same... Finally, I removed manually this GEAR thing, rebooted, and my CD/DVD drive was visible and accesible again. The problem is that now iTunes cannot burn CDs because it can´t find the GEAR software.
So this is a catch-22 situation: If I uninstall and re-install iTunes, I will not be able to see my CD/DVD drive, and if I remove these GEAR stuff, then I can see it but iTunes will not burn anything!!!!
For now I´ve decided to stay like this because at least I can use some other apps to burn CDs, and I can still sync my iPod, but I would like to have a solution for this.
Anybody has seen this same problem?

At this point I have a dvd drive, but Itune gives me a warning the registry settings for burning cd's and dvd's are missing and that I should reinstall itune. It's probably best to first check for a device filter conflict:
iTunes for Windows Vista: Troubleshooting CD issues caused by device filters
But if you still get no DVD drive, *even when there's no filters in place but the iTunes ones,* then you're one of the unlucky ones.
At this stage, on some Vista PCs, the filters for the GEAR drivers that iTunes uses for burning and importing seem to be causing some conflicts. This article outlines your options:
Optical drives not recognized in Windows Vista after installing iTunes 7
It's probably worth keeping an eye on that document, in the interests of seeing if any new information becomes available. (Preferably information about a proper fix.)

  • Itunes installation causes CDROM drives to disappear

    Good afternoon,
System is a VIA chipset Windows 2000 Professional box, fully patched up to and including Service Pack 4. System has a Pioneer DVD drive and a Creative Labs 16X CDRW drive on the same IDE channel one Master, One slave. Wihtout ITunes installed, both drive active and usable reading and writing. If I install ITunes, both drives disappear and only the following tech note gets them back. http://www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/328585.html

    hi Darrell!
was it the Adobe document, or the Windows 2000 MS KB document referenced at the end which eventually saw you right?
I ask because we periodically also get reports of the
    b XP
version of this problem, referenced in the
    b other
MS KB doc mentioned there. (that one is a peculiarly nasty problem, given that it happens because people once
    b uninstalled
those packages, and don't even have them on their PCs any more.)

  • CD/DVD Drive is disappearing

My DVD Drive keeps disappering and is unusable. I have pinpointed the problem as iTunes. I did this, but removing iTunes and all worked fine. Then I reinstalled iTunes and it suddenly disappeared again. So, I used RegEdit to REMOVE the upperfilter GERA Driver that iTunes installs, and all works until I open and run iTunes again. WHAT IS GOING ON??? I never had a problem until I upgraded to the new iTunes, so Apple what is different, and don't you test this stuff prior to upgrades???? Even if I don't delete the registry key, I still can't even use iTunes. This is a HUGE problem, Google, DVD Drive disappear and iTunes and you will see a BUNCH of links, Apple HEEEEELLLLLPPPPPP!!!!!!

i suggest reinstall the ODD driver from device manager to isolate driver issue
to isolate issue from 3rd party software issue, do clean boot

But most of intermittent issue like this maybe Hardware issue (optical, cable power or cable data issue)
I prefer external HDD or PC HDD as backup rather than CD

  • Driver filters that Itunes adds to CD/DVD drive

When I install or reinstall Itunes it adds upper and lower filters to my CD/DVD drive which then disable my CD/DVD drive. I know this is a problem with Vista since Microsoft has posted a step by step method for removing these filters (doc # KB929461). This restores the CD/DVD drive operation. The article claims that the installed drivers interfere with the current filters. The article does recommend attempting to reinstall the software (Itunes) because the CD/DVD storage stack did not migrate succesfully to Windows. However, everytime I reintall, the CD/DVD drive stops working. Other than buying a Mac (next time I will) how can I get Itunes and my laptop fully functional? Is there a patch somewhere that will correct this issue?

It would be best first to check for a device filter conflict. In particular, I’ve seen HP Memories Disc Creator Software (which comes bundled with some HP digital camera software) interact in this way with iTunes:
iTunes for Windows Vista: Troubleshooting CD issues caused by device filters
... however, if you're still getting no CD/DVD drive with *just the iTunes filters in place*, you may be one of the unlucky ones who are getting the issue discussed here:
Optical drives not recognized in Windows Vista after installing iTunes 7
Although it wouldn't necessarily be a short-term thing, keep an eye on that document for updated information about the issue.
In the short term, one workaround might be to use a different application to rip the CDs, and then use the "Add to library" function to get the ripped files into your iTunes. The following document might be of some help with that:
iTunes: About the Add to Library, Import, and Convert functions

  • ITunes installation error - no C-drive, invalid C-drive, or specified path too long

This is an answer rather than a question as answer to a previous question seemed unresolved and I had similar problem which I have resolved. I thought posting it might help others...
My OS System disk wasn't set as the C-drive (how or why I'm not sure, but I have several OS installations and 2 hard-drives and must be a result of the way I installed these). And so I had no C-drive at all (except when I plugged in USB Pen's they would appear as C-drive).
iTunes wouldn't let me install unless I had a C-drive - probably said I had an invalid C-drive or something. So I tried creating a virtual C-drive by mapping the C: drive letter to a new empty folder on my system disk (G-drive) to "C:". See - http://ask-leo.com/i_have_no_c_drive_but_some_programs_insist_on_it_what_can_i_d o.html
This DIDN'T resolve the problem as it merely created a different error message - it said: "The specified path is too long C:\Program Files" NB This is despite me telling it to install iTunes to the G-drive.
Solution: I removed the virtual C-drive (ie. mapping of "C:"  to the new folder) and instead in My Computer -> Manage -> Storage -> Disk Management, I assigned the C: drive letter to a drive partition I use for storing media (I plan to name it back else several programms will fail to store media correctly). I also moved the iTunes.exe installation file to that C: partition in case that helped. Installation (still told to be the G-drive) was now successful.
What I noticed is iTunes created the following path - C:\Program Files\JavaSoft\JRE\1.3.0_02\lib\ext - and dumped this file there: QTJava.zip Looks suspiciously like an install file for the bundled (and required) updated Quick Time, which it obviously requires to be dumped on a C-drive. Once installed I doubt that file will still be needed, so I'll delete it after I restart (it won't let me at the mo).
If you don't have extra partitions that you can assign C-drive to, then you could either try Adding (rather than changing) the C: drive letter to your current System disk. IN FACT I'M THINKING THAT'D BE THE BEST THING TO DO ANYWAY as then all programmes will use the correct system disk regardless of whether they think they should be using G: or C: (though I've not tried it, so can't be sure this works). Alternatively I reckon you could connect a USB stick and assign C-drive to that (if it isn't in fact automatically assigned it). Allow it to dump the QTJava.zip file on to it and once installed, you can remove the USB Stick - NB I'd suggest using the Safe Removal. (Well, might be worth restarting first in case it is referencing anything on it that isn't finished until restart.)
Hope this helps someone as was driving me potty coz I couldn't update my iTunes and thus couldn't sync my iPhone!

    Hi AltafB,
For your situation, you can short the path for the source code. Or use a short path for build agent folder in your build definition. You can refer to the links below to solve your problem:
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/aaronhallberg/archive/2007/06/20/team-build-and-260-character-paths.aspx

Besides, since you deploy Orchard to Azure, you can also publish it directly using publish profile in Visual Stduio or WebMatrix directly.

  • Windows 7 installation - missing cd/dvd driver

    Hello!
First of all i wanted to greet everyone here, as this is my first post on this forum
    Now to the problem.
I am happy owner of HP Pavilion dv7-1150ew laptop. It's a good computer, i really like it, but the OS it came with (Vista Home Premium) was temporary from the beginning. I knew from day one i'll install Windows 7 as soon as it becomes available. And the day came. Windows 7 Professional appeared on the MSDNAA site. I downloaded 64-bit version, burned the DVD disc and waited for the weekend to come to do the installation and post-intallation stuff.
So, am i Windows 7 user now? No. I am not. I didn't even get to the installation process The installer boots up flawlessly, i choose language, then i click Install now, wait and... "Missing required CD/DVD drive device driver" message appears. Here's what i tried:
    - installing from USB pendrive (formatted the pendrive to NTFS using diskpart, unpacked the iso to pendrive using ultraiso and winrar)
    - providing Intel ICH9M/E-M AHCI SATA driver version 8.9 to the installer - it shows the progress bar for a while, then the "No new devices could be found" message appears
    - installing 32 bit version
    - installing from USB pendrive with DVD drive and secondary harddrive disconnected
    - installing to clean harddrive (i dropped both system and recovery partitions)
    - updating laptop BIOS
    - updating DVD drive firmware
Still the same problem. No required driver, and if i load the Intel SATA driver - no new devices.
The Windows 7 Professional from MSDNAA is at least RTM release, as it has no RC, Beta or whatever next to it.
I googled that others who had this problem solved it by switching SATA controllers from AHCI to IDE mode (or otherwise), but BIOS on the DV7 laptop doesn't have any regarding option.
Does anyone have any ideas? Please?
    This question was solved.

  • Installed itunes for windows- ipod+dvd drives not recognized by my computer

After installing i tunes I received a message saying that there were errors during install. Importing and export (burning) would not be possible through i tunes, I should re-install itunes. I have reinstalled i tunes.
On restarting my computer i have encountered issues with drives, I cannot find the ipod in "my computer" nor can i find my dvd drive. The drivers for the dvd drive are installed.
There is possibly confusion over the drives allocated letters ie it maybe the hardware is trying to use the same designation.
Is this a common issue with installing i tunes, I can't find any other threads on similar issues. Any suggestions on fixes greatly appreciated.

ahhhhhh, many thanks for the link. for a while (about a year ago), Packard Bell UK was including those instructions on their troubleshooting pages, but then they went away. (or i just couldn't find where they'd been shifted to.)
usually nowadays i crank out the MS instructions instructions instead:
(MS) CD-ROM access is missing and messages cite error Code 31, Code 32, Code 19, Code 39, or Code 41 after you remove Easy CD Creator in Windows XP
... but it's a (slightly perverse) sort of comfort to know that i'm still recommending basically what Packard Bell recommends.

  • Itunes conflicting with the DVD drive in windows 8.1

Has anyone had any conflict on the DVD drive betweeen W8.1 and Itunes 11.1.3.8 i know its this as when i uninstall Itunes the conflict dissapears re-install itunes and the conflict re-appears which then renders the dvdv drive uselss. actually it doesnt even show up in the drive letters.

  • Itunes has disabled my dvd drive

I upgraded to itunes 9 and now my dvd player will not work and my computer does not recognize it. I had it serviced and fixed last week and it was working and the guy stated it was a problem in i tunes. When it was fixed it worked until I connected my ipod to charge it. I have uninstalled itunes and it still doesn't work. I am at a loss of what to do. I have tried working on the registry and that didn't work. Any other ideas?

This is commonly attributed to a problem with the GEAR drivers that iTunes installs. Historically, people suggested that you try reinstalling gear drivers, and when that didn't work, modify registry entries to disable GEAR (in which case burning discs is disabled and you may get a nagging message to that effect every time you start iTunes). Looks like they've since found a solution, but I haven't tested it:

  • DVD Drive has disappeared

Why has my DVD drive disappeared from the list of available drives in Photoshop Elements? How do I get PE to pick it up again?

Please try doing the same after restarting the system. If it still doesn't recognize it, check Folder Tree in left panel of the Organizer. The tree I'm referring to is the complete folder structure which becomes visible on clicking the small icon next to My Folders.

  • Installation disabled CD / DVD drives.

Hired MS Assure to fix my email which would not load.  Tech recommended upgrading to 2013 which I did.  email works fine but I now have NO access to my CD / DVD drives.  I have one built in and one external (usb).  USB drive operates
    fine on my laptop.
I have deleted and restored drivers with no result.  Error message in device MGR says:  "Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device.  A recent hardware or software change.....etc.  Code 52
A portable floppy drive still works as do usb flashdrives.

because maybe installation software change the registry setting, I would suggest you first do clean boot
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135
try also reset your BIOS setting
after that try to delete upper lower filter
    https://support.microsoft.com/kb/929461/en-us
if doesn't work try to uninstall ODD at device manager and let windows detect your ODD automatically
you can also temporary solved this case by disabling driver signature at advance boot option

  • Cd/dvd drive has disappeared

my cd/dvd drive is not detected by windows, but is detected by the device manager
the BIOS detects is as well. I've tried removing the upper & lower filters, uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers, and have also checked to see if I can assign the drive a letter. the drive isn't even there
i have had this problem for a while. first i had fixed it, but then after doing a system recovery, it has disappeard once again. I've tried all of the microsoft fix its, and it all does not work.
However, it did work before I did the system recovery, so I do not believe it is a hardware issue. The cd drive also has a blinking light and spins, but windows does nothing.
    please help!!!
