ITunes installation error: does not have program associated with it for performing this action

Repeated tries to install iTunes continues to fail. Installing on Acer laptop using Windows 7.
Error: does not have program associated with it for performing this action
We have done the following: open Default programs, clicked associate a file type, clicked on change program button and selected a program to open with and clicked OK/enter.
The installation continues. we get to the finish window; click finish.
Next error: iTunes has been installed incorrectly.
So, what do we do to get iTunes working?

  • Getting this error while opening a folder : This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Programs control panel

    Hi,
While trying to open a folder on my Windows 7 Home Premium, an error comes "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this
action.  Please install a program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Programs control panel." I tried searching on the net but did not get great support for the issue when it happens with folder opening.

    Hi Nikunj Shah,
    First, I suggest you download
    Microsoft Safety Scanner or
Malicious Software Removal Tool to run a full scan.
The error messages here seems to be caused by the corrupted registries, which related with the folder association.
You may take a try to merge the following registry settings to reset the folder association, before that, remember to backup your registry settings first:
How to back up and restore the registry in Windows
Copy and paste the following commands into Notepad, and save it to a .reg file:

  • Powershell shortcut gives"this file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action"

    Hi,
We have a server where powershell gives an error. The shortcut or the context menu for start button (replaced cmd in context menu) gives an error saying "this file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action".
In some events, like going to C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\System Tools\Windows PowerShell.lnk and opening it results in bupkus. Nothing happens.
Browsing to C:\Windows\system32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\ and running powershell.exe directly or opening cmd.exe and typing powershell <enter> runs powershell as it should.
    What gives?

    Hi,
    I'd probably try asking here:
    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-us/home?forum=winserver8gen&filter=alltypes&sort=lastpostdesc
This is more of an OS issue than a PowerShell issue, IMHO.
    Good luck.

You are posting in the "icloud on my mac" forum, but your profile mentions Windows.  If using a mac, you need to have iphoto or aperture installed in order to receive new photos via photo stream.  If using windows, try posting in the iCloud on a PC forum.  You'll get better help there.

Assuming your Itunes is working without problem, use Windows Explorer, right click the music file and choose "Open With", then "Choose Default Programs...", then Itunes and OK.

I watched 3 or 4 online movies and downloaded a mpvie from megaupload.com and I have picked up a virus.
Every time I attempt to run a program's .exe file the message in the title of this thread appears. I can't run a system restore because the message appears. I think every .exe command has been disabled by the virus. I can only access Internet Explorer because
I thought to create a hyperlink in word and click on it.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

I'm having the same problem. It started today. I can't open any .exe file, cant open the comand prompt, cant open regedit. I can't download anything including trendmicro housecall or mircrosoft security essentials, because once downloaded i still have to
open a .exe file to get them to run, which won't work. I booted to safe mode with cmnd prompt (the only way (could get it to show up) and did the assoc .exe=exefile and the response was that it repeated the command back to me. BTW command prompted booted to
c:/something something. I knew enough to cd\ back to c:/, but do I need to go one step farther?
Similar to the original poster, I can get around the .exe problem and get IE to open and then surf by going to the control panel and clicking around help menues until one of them launches IE. This is what tipped me off that it must be a virus because only
the normal interface icons and explorer file locations are blocked, but some "backdoor" command is able to open IE. I do have Trendmicro installed already and it reported that two malicious things were successfully blocked, but I didnt see the names and it
was too late as soon as I started poking around and found that everything was disabled.
Lastly, I found on some other forums a solution that seemed to work for some people and that was going to control panel-folder options-files, but that option doesn't seem to exist on WIN7 so that was a dead end for me.
If I must, and can find the necessary discs I will reinstall windows if that will solve the problem. What repurcussions should I expect? I have a SSD that runs my OS and a few critical programs but all my data is on a separate d:/ data drive. Will all that
    stuff be safe?

  • This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this ac

    Hi all,
After creating an application for a WebDynpro project, when I execute the project (Deploy New Archive and Run) the application I am receiving then following error message.
"This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in folder options in control panel."
Pls can anyone provide the solution.
    Regards
    Ravi

Maybe the problem its on the Run part. It is supposed to open a navigator and go to the URL of the application you just deployed.
Try deploying on one step and then Running on other.
If it is the Run then open the navigator and test your App.
