Dell Inspiron 6000   Windows XP

I found another article entitled Using MSCONFIG to troubleshoot conflicts in Windows (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302538)
When I disabled all the non-Microsoft services, it worked!
However, I tried adding one back, and it didn't work.
So I added the others back, and left the one I thought was causing the problem unchecked, but I still have the same problem.
Could anyone tell me if these are necessary?

  • TS1717 Itunes re-installed but not opening

    Itunes was running on my Windows 7, 64 bit, Core I7 laptop, but it stopped recognizing my ipod touch.  WIndows would see the device, but not Itunes.  So I checked the Apple support site and it suggested totally uninstalling Itunes and Quick Time and associated components and re-installing.  I downloaded the latest Itunes and installed, but I can't get it to open.  WHen I click Itunes, after about 30 seconds I see a message "The file 'Itunes Library.Itl' cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of Itunes".  After that message I see diskactivity for another minute or 2, but I tunes never opens.  I tried uninstalling and re-installing a couple of times but the results are the same.  Any ideas?

    You will find the Photoshop program installed in your Applications folder.  It sounds like you are opening the installer instead of Photoshop itself.

  • ITunes installed, but dosent open

    I have installed the new iTunes 7.0 but the problem is it wont open. Theres no error, no sort of problem notification, I just double click on the icon like normal and the hour glass shows, but then nothing happens. Is there an installation glitch?? I would figure if there was a problem with my computer being able to load or install the program my computer would notify me some way but it dosen't.

    I have a similar problem, i just bought a new pc and one of the first things i installed was itunes. But i had some problems with drivers and and other programs so i had to use system restore (5 times...) so i can install itunes but it wont open and i get an error message. I think my problem is with quicktime cos i cant find it anywhere in my folders, there is a quicktime folder but its empty (0 bytes) so i downloaded quicktime from this site seperately and installed it, i got a message saying that a newer version of quicktime is already installed... i have no idea how i can fix this, quicktime isnt listed in the install/uninstall function in windows, its not visible in any folder, its not thereeeeeeee =(

  • Mac system - adobe download assistant "installing" but not opening

    I have a Mac operating system and am trying to download the trial Design premium. I have done it on a PC and had no problems. It is popping up in my downloads fine and when I click on it, I have a dmg. file that lets me click it. Then it says it is "installing" but then says please wait and just closes. Nothing opened, no downloads start, nothing.  I have done the refresh page thing as the website suggests, I have done it signed into my account and not signed in, nothing will work. PLEASE HELP!

    Does the DMG file mount to your desktop?  The installer will not launch automatically, there is no autoplay on Macintosh, so you need to initiate the installer yourself.

  • Photoshop Elements 6 will install but not open

    I have tried to install Photoshop Elements 6 several times.  After what appears to be a successful install, the program will not open.  When I go to log off my computer I get a message that Photoshop Elements is still running and my computer is unable to end the program .  Under the task manager it shows no applications running but Photoshop Elements shows up in a few places under the Processes tab.  This install is directly from the program cd.  Any ideas?

    First, you may need to install the Adobe licensing-service update:
    http://www.johnrellis.com/psedbtool/photoshopelements-6-7-faq.htm#_Install_the_licensing-s ervice
    If that doesn't help, try Adobe's generic troubleshooting steps, which include installing with anti-virus disabled and running as administrator:

  • App published by adobe flash profesional cc targeted as air for IOS  could be installed but not opened at all

    i am using flash professional CC to develop an application for IOS
    its very simple application for testing , i target it as ADobe air 6.8 for IOS
    i generated certificate and provision profile successsfuly , and the application puplished successfully and installed on a defined Ipad Device , BUT it refuse to open ! , it does not open at all , it wont't work , it does not show any error message ,
    any Help  ?

    There hasn’t been an AIR 6.8. If you mean 3.8, you should use a later version, because Apple would reject the app. Version 4 or later would be ok. The current version is AIR 14.
    You say that nothing happens, when you touch the icon on your iPad does it become darker, and stay that way? Or does the screen clear, but the app doesn’t run?
    If it’s the second option, then most likely there is a script error happening that stops the app before it manages to get going.
    If you do a Debug/Debug Movie/On Device via USB, and select your connected iPad, you can then get to see what error is happening.

  • ITunes & QuickTime will install but not open after Windows XP laptop crash

    Alright, this may be a repeat question from a long time ago, but I don't have the time to dig through 1,000+ posts so I'll just put it out there. Here's the situation:
    *Backed up my entire hard drive including iTunes 8.1 and library to external drive using Roxio Back Up My PC (BUMP) creating a large .QIC file
    *Two days later, entire computer crashes - says can't load from BOOT.INI upon start-up
    *I re-install Windows XP service pack 2 operating system, install driver update and recovery disc, go through Windows Update and upgrade to service pack 3, etc.
    *Do a system recovery from External Drive using same Roxio program, instead of a full restore, it duplicates the files I re-installed and maxes out my C:\ drive.
    *Try everything I can to troubleshoot the problems on my own, defragment, disc clean-up, registry cleaner using RegCure, use Windows Installer Cleanup Utility, use File Duplicate Finder to wipe the dupes created by the restore, run Symantec Antivirus 2007 scan just in case, etc...
    *Anyways, NOW getting to the iTunes related part: after the system restore, newest upgrade of iTunes 8.1 and Quicktime both don't work at all, they are installed in the same location in Program Files where they originally were housed, but when I click to open, it sends a standard Internet Explorer type error message, prompting either to debug, send troubleshoot message, etc.
    *Finally, I un-install iTunes, re-install, same deal. The curious thing: practically all other programs work just fine, incl Windows Media Player, MS Office, all restored and in operational condition. Why the exception with anything Apple related?
    Any advice would be MUCH appreciated considering I have 300+ gigs of music. Thank you in advance!!

    Try these steps..

  • ITunes installed - will not open

    I am experiencing the same problem as a majority of users on this post. iTunes worked without a hitch until I installed Version 6 two weeks ago. Now, I can install iTunes and it allows me to complete the install. However, when I go to open iTunes, I receive the error message window:
    "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close.
    We are sorry for the inconvenience. Please tell
    Microsoft about this problem." I have the option
    to "Send Error Report" or "Don't Send."
    I have followed every helpful tip that has been posted over the past two weeks to no avail. These include:
    - uninstalled iTunes and downloaded and installed iTunes
    and Quicktime individually;
    - turned off Anit-Virus software (McAfee) and
    uninstalled, dowloaded and re-installed iTunes and
    Quicktime together and separately;
    - run MSCONFIG and tried operating only with qttask and
    iTunes helper checked;
    - run MSCONFIG and tried operating with only iTunes
    helper checked;
    - run MSCONFIG and tried operating with iTunes helper
    NOT checked;
    - run McAfee and SpyBot repeatedly;
    - run EWIDO virus/adware/Malware scan;
    - and all combinations of the above-listed actions.
    None of these have worked. I am at a loss for what to do next. Obviously there are many iPod users out here who are experiencing the same exact issues.
    Several posts indicate that calling Apple does no good.
    Someone please help - my patience level is beyond shot.
    Rence

    hmmmm...what a headache,eh? I want to try a few things in your case. First, I want you to uninstall the iTunes. If you need to run the Microsoft Installer CleanUp Utility to get all the remnants out. Somewhere along the line something in the install is all kinked up, so to speak.
    I dont know if you tried this, but...
    . Make sure you have that file called "mapi32.dll" found in your Windows/system 32 folder.
    If you cant find it let me know, I can guide you through it.
    Next, make sure All these are started: TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper, Windows Management Instrument, and WMI Performance Adapter.
    How to do this: Click on the Start Menu;Right Click on my computer and then choose manage in that menu. In the left hand panel click "services and applications" and double click services. Find those files and then click them and see if they say started and automatic
    Next, download the standalone Version of Quicktime, with your antivirus stuff turned off.
    Then Restart and download your iTunes with the antivirus turned off. Then restart and it should work.
    Also, I would try a program called CCleaner which will clean out your registry. Its a free program. It seems like many are having iTunes issues due to registry problems. I would download that first before proceeding to the other steps. Make sure you let CCleaner back up your registry before you proceed, that way, if there is an error and the system becomes unstable, your registry is backed up. Let me know if this helps in any way.

  • Latest QT & iTunes installed, but not work correctly

    I had installed latest version QT7 & iTunes 6.05, however, both of them not work correctly. For QT, it can play video with "looping - delay & sound impediment" audio; the video seems ok. My iTunes has the same problem, I just wonder this is because of QT.
    Hope some body can help me to solve this problem.

    hmmmmm.
    quit itunes and/or quicktime.
    try opening your Sounds and Audio devices control panel. click on the Audio tab.
    in the sound playback area there, click on the "advanced" button. click on the "performance" tab.
    try moving the sliders towards full and best. click okay.
    check on the sound quality in itunes and quicktime again.
    any improvement?

  • Reader will install but not open in XP

    It worked two days ago. Now I get an error message saying it has encountered a problem and needs to close. I have already tried the following.
    1) Un-installed all Adobe programs
    2) Deleted all Adobe program files
    3) Increased virtual memory
    4) Re-installed reader
    Help!

    I have had the same thing happen to me, as well!  I have spent so much time on this and it is so frustrating!  There are many other forums on the web with other frustrated customers/clients using different versions of Windows / AV and the same problem.  I am using Windows 7, downloaded Adobe Reader X.  The program installed fine.  When I download pdfs from email, and then open them in Adobe X, everything is "a-okay."  However, when I save a document from the internet and then download it from windows 7 (same procedure), I get the error message that the file is corrupted or damaged.  EVERY SINGLE FILE FROM SEVERAL DIFFERENT STATE OR LEGAL WEBSITES that, also, previously opened fine in prior version of Adobe Reader.  I have uninstalled, reinstalled, "repaired," uninstalled again with Norton & Window AV off and installed again ... still no luck.  I depend on this Reader EVERYDAY!!  I have seen numerous threads with this, BUT no solutions!!  Please help!

  • Itunes is running but not open

    Two days ago, I signed up for Itunes match.  Then the box appeared on my iphone and ipad that new ios 6 ready to download.  I did that.
    Now I go to my main PC that holds all my music (it is A LOT!) and itunes will not open.  It is running in the processes but not open on my computer.  I plugged the iphone into the PC to see if that would jumpstart the program.. nothing happened.  I tried opening a song outside of Itunes from the itunes media folder...nothing happened.  I tried all the "this fixes it!" help like uninstall/ reinstall itunes/ quicktime... NOTHING.  Quicktime opens but freezes.  I have gone through the troubleshooter... since I use this PC for my business, it scans daily with several reliable antivirus as well as spyware and malware programs.
    No other program has stopped working.  This is a system wide issue as my husband logged on and it did not open for him.
    I am running Win 7 64 bit.  Google chrome is my browser. PC is fairly new ... possibly 2 years old.
    Please advise a solution.
    Thanks

    Maybe the error is because you have a too old PC, so it will not work, because it needs too much RAM
    Can you write your PC dates?
    Try also to re-install itunes

  • Itunes application could not open. Required iTunes component not installed

    After 3 weeks of frustration, I would greatly appreciate any help anyone may be able to offer.
    I have been attempting to sync my new iphone to itunes. Initially, I received the message *"This iphone cannot be used because the required software is not installed"* when itunes started.
    I spent a week trying to fix this error, following suggestions to completely remove all apple software and reinstall, login as a different user, and disable startup programs including antivirus/firewalls (see *http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=6326342*). After a week of frustration, I decided to wait for itunes 8, hoping it may resolve my issue.
    I installed itunes 8, and now itunes will not boot, with the message *"The itunes application could not open. A required itunes component is not installed"*. I followed the instructions in this post: *http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=8056494&#8056494*, without success.
    I rang the Apple tech support line, and the tech support person was not able to fix my issue. I was told that they did not know what was wrong, and that I should reinstall Vista, or contact Microsoft. I am very reluctant to do so, as I do not wish to risk losing my otherwise stable system, not to mention hours and hours of installation time.
    I have never had the experience of having such a high value product (iphone) not working, and being told it was essentialy 'my problem'. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions. I have not been able to sync my iphone with my PC for 3 weeks now, and I am becoming very frustrated. I feel quite abandoned by Apple. I love my iphone, but there is no question that this experience will make me think twice about an Apple product in future.
    Thanks in advance,
    Bartek.

    Solution: It appears that Quicktime and iTunes versions got out of sync.
    1) Uninstall Quicktime.
    2) Download and install an older version of Quicktime (7.5.5 to be exact)
    FIXED! Hope this helps the next person

Now what?

    Unless you've recently attempted to downgrade iTunes this is probably a sign of a corrupt library file. See Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash.
