Itunes installed on computer, computer crashed, what to do?

I installed itunes onto my computer and had all my music in my itunes library. My computer crashed and was wiped clean. I've downloaded a new itunes onto my computer thinking it would convert my ipod to it. I've also bought new music from the itunes library. When I try to sync it to my ipod a notice states "An Ipod can be synced with only one Itunes library at a time. Erasing and syncing replaces the contents of this Ipod with the contents of this Itunes library." My question is how to keep the music I already have on my Ipod but also adding the new music I bought on the newly downloaded Itunes? I don't want to delete all of my music off my Ipod because that would only leave the recently bought music which means deleting thousands of songs. Please help!!

That one's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.
XP instructions in the following document: How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP
Vista instructions in the following document: Check your hard disk for errors
Windows 7 instructions in the following document: How to use CHKDSK (Check Disk)
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards?

I am getting the error "We're sorry we cannot complete your request on the iTunes store at this time. Please try again later." on both my iPhone and iTunes on my computer. What is wrong with iTunes? Is the server down or what? I need to download some things and update some apps...

I've been getting the same message for like an hour now.  Since everything was working fine a few hours ago, and nothing changed on my end before it stopped working, I'm guessing it's something on Apple's end.  They probably already know about it by now, and are hopefully working on fixing it, so there's probably not much we can do but wait for them to fix it.

Does iTunes not see the phone?
If not, make sure you're running the current version of iTunes.
If you are running the current version and it still doesn't recognize it, see this: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1591?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
As for iPhoto, you will have to purchase a newer version. It's not a free upgrade. Or, you can use Image Capture, which is built into OS X, to import the photos.

  • I was updating iTunes and my computer crashed.

Now I can't open iTunes, nor can I open any of my music files or podcasts. When I try to open them, the error message is "The file 'iTunes Library.itl' cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes." There are also 169 temp files in my iTunes folder now.
My first thought was to uninstall iTunes, but that doesn't work. I also cannot install the newest version because of the old files that remain on the computer.
What do I do next? Is it possible that I have lost my iTunes files and those of the other users on my computer?

Hello, my computer crashed. I lost Itunes, and ipod software......but saved my music.......I am going to download itunes......Do i reinstall the ipod disc? Its a 3rd generation 40 gig.....what about my purchased music? will it load back into that playlist????

    David,
Anything on your computer is lost if you had to reinstall the Windows OS. For a way to get your music from the iPod back to your computer, check out this link.

You don't need to reinstall the iPod software, just iTunes. If I were you, I would get the music back from my iPod first (put the folder on the desktop), then reinstall iTunes.

  • Syncing iPod to establish a new iTunes library - former computer crashed

Hi. I had my itunes library on a computer and had not backed it up. Most of my music was on my ipod touch. The computer crashed and I cannot access anything. So I have put itunes on our HP netbook. Is there a whay to copy the music from my ipod to the new itunes library. I keep getting a message that says "an ipod canbe synced with only one itunes library at a time. Erasing and syncing replaces the contents of this ipod with the contents of this itunes library. Erase and synce or cancel" My original itunes library is gone because of hte computer crash and I don't want to lose what I have on my ipod by erasing and syncing. Is there anyway to get the music off and into the new library?
    THanks for your help.

Your iPad is married to its now deceased old computer. This is the reason for the necessity of a backup for your computer, which your iPad is not.
Your iTunes Store and App Store purchases will not be lost. Just don't "erase and sync" when you sync your iPad to your new Mac:
If you want to move the iTunes Store purchases on your device to the new computer, choose "Transfer Purchases." The new computer must be set up with your iTunes Store account and authorized to play your iTunes Store purchases in order to transfer your iTunes Store purchases.

  • Just last night when I was trying to listen to some of my songs they wouldn't play on the iphone or itunes on my computer. What can I do?

I've purchased some songs from the itune store a while back and they played fine on my iphone and my computer. Just last night I tried listening to a playlist I created and some of the songs wouldn't play. They wouldn't work in itunes on the computer or the iphone. I tried deleting the songs from my phone and re-syncing them and it didn't work. I've not tried resetting the phone completely. Not sure what I should do now. Those songs cost a bit a money and I've tried already to access the cloud to see if they were there. What should I do??

You may need to restore your iPhone.
If it won't restore, try here. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808
If nothing helps, you need to contact Verizon for information for an exchange or refund. This is a user to user forum, not Apple.
Apple's policy for a refund or exchange is within 14 days of purchase. Verizon's policy may be different.
Definitely try restoring .. hopefully you won't have to go through the hassle of an exchange.

  • Can I transfer music from my iPod touch that was originally burned from CD's or does it only transfer music purchased from Itunes?  My computer crashed and I lost all of my music?

My computer crashed and I lost all of my music.  I have music still on my Ipod touch but a lot of it was originally burned from CD's onto my computer.  Is there any way to transfer this music back to a new computer or will I need to re-burn each individual CD again to get this onto the new computer?

  • HT1212 hi, I have an Iphone 4 and I've recently changed my passcode but forgot it the next day. After several attempts to unlock the phone says iphone disabled connect to itunes however my phone is not synced to itunes or any computer so what do i do?

    HI,
I HAVE AN IPHONE4, I CHANGED MY PASSCODE BUT FORGOT WHAT IT WAS THE NEXT DAY, AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO UNLOCK MY PHONE BECAM DISABLED AND SAYING IPHONE DISABLED CONNECT TO ITUNES, HOWEVER MY PHONE ISNT SYNCED TO ITUNES NOR A COMPUTER, PLEASE TELL ME WHAT DO I DO AND HOW TO REGAIN ACCESS TO MY PHONE?

You will have to put your phone into recovery mode and restore the phone as new. Since you don't have a back up, you will lose all the data on your phone but you will be able to use it again.

  • Restore my iTunes (on my computer) to what's currently on my iPhone 5s?

A kid used with my computer and tampered with my iTunes. He deleted most of my music and made some playlists. I still have my own content on my iPhone and want to restore the iTunes on my computer to make it match what's on my phone. Is there any way to do this?

  • Computer Crashed What Happens to Songs on my Nano

My computer crashed and I brought it in to be fixed. I paid extra money to have my music, photos, documents put onto a disk. When I got my computer back only 35 out of 300 songs were on it. I was able to load those songs into the ITunes library. If I plug my Nano into ITunes will I lose all the other 265 songs that are currently on the Nano? I set Itunes to not automatically sync. I do not really care if those songs are in my library I just want them saved on the Nano. Also will I be able to add new songs?

  • How can I access my itunes account, old computer crashed?

My computer has crashed and have recently purchased a new one, all my movies, books, music was on the account on this computer, how can I access it again?
I have all my downloads, movies, books, music, so how can I acces that itunes account if my computer has crashed and now have a new computer?

The easiest way to get back missing items?  Restore your whole hard drive with all your irreplaceable things like photos in about 20 minutes from the backup clone you make on a regular basis.
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519 - enabled with iTunes 10.3 and newer; not available in all countries; only apps, books (not audiobooks), music, and t.v. shows (not movies).  Discontinued items not available. For items not included in the iCloud list, or locations or computer systems where iCloud is not (yet?) available, you only get one download per fee paid.  Apple notes it is your responsibility to back up your purchases.
I am a bit confused by your use of the word "account".  You may have an "account" on the iTunes Store.  What you have on a computer is your user account, part of which is the iTunes folder which usually houses a collection of files that make up what you see when you open the iTunes application.  When you open iTunes it does not normally open an account to your files, it just opens the ones on your computer. If your old computer died and you can not longer use the hard drive (which is not necessarily true but we would have to know more about the situation in detail) then not only your media but your playlists, ratings, etc. are also gone (unless you have a backup).  As indicated above, iTunes Store will let you download some things again, if they are still there and you are running iTunes 10.3 or greater.  Things like movies are gone unless you have a backup copy elsewhere.  The iTunes store does not contain playlists, etc, nor your ratings since all you are doing is downloading brand new copies again.

  • Computer crashed, what happens now?

Hello there! My desktop computer which had my entire music collection on it just crashed. I bought a new laptop but now I am wondering what will happen when I download itunes onto that laptop. When I plug in my ipod and update it, will my songs on my ipod be erased? Is there any way to get the songs that are already on my ipod to be stored back in itunes??
Also, it was my motherboard that fried on my desktop so I still have the hard drive. Does any know if there is a way I can get the information from that hard drive onto the hard drive on my new laptop???

Your iPod is going to think that it's being synced to a new/different iTunes library. Your iPod can only be synced with one computer at a time.  If you try to sync it with a new computer/iTunes library, it will replace the contents of the iPod with whatever is in the new library.
You should probably disable the autosync functionality first by going to Edit -> Preferences, clicking the Devices tab, and enabilng the prevent iPods,iPhones, and iPads from automatically syncing option.
Before doing anything else,  authorize the new computer with your iTunes Account.  In iTunes, choose Store -> Authorize This Computer and enter in the correct credentials. Either copy a backup file from your old computer to your new one or create a new backup of your iPod in iTunes before letting it sync.
Then right->click on your iPod Touch from under the Devices section in the left hand pane of iTunes and choose Backup. You might also want to take a look at this article to see what it all included in the backup.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766
Now onto synced content such as music, videos, photos, etc.  For iTunes purchases you can copy them back into iTunes by choosing File -> Transfer Purchases.  For all other nonpurchased iTunes content, see this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering different software availbable to assist you with this task.
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2452022?start=0&tstart=0
Once the backup has been made and all other synced content such as music, videos, and photos are back in your iTunes library, restore your iPod from that backup you made earlier.  Here is more on backing up and restoring your iPod.
