ITunes Installer has encountered a problem and needs to close.

I accidentally removed apple mobile device support so now I can't charge my ipod touch on my computer. I uninstalled itunes and tried reinstalling the latest one and got the message:
iTunes Installer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
I tried removing temporary internet files, deleting all itunes/quicktime related files from registry, all related folders, setups, and pretty much anything related to it. I try reinstalling different versions but that message still appears. The installing bar goes to a different percentage each time. The farthest one went to about 90%
Does anyone know a solution? I had to resort to buying an AC adapter but it's inconvenient for me.

i found a way around the setup problem.. i created a new account on windows and tried to download and when it wouldnt work i looked at the tech part of the error report.. anyway there were 2 files with TEMP in it so i went to the temp folder and there was a weird folder with all random letters and numbers so after i deleted that the setup would work on the next account.. however on my old account it still wont download =/ but this is a good fix for now

Are you installing AIR installer or running Installer. If your running it make sure you click on the AIR Install package file, not just using installer. Im not really sure what you can do.

  • Cannot open itunes, "itunes has encountered a problem and needs to close"

I have tried numerous to times to download itunes update after having ipod display indicating not all songs have been transfered because of old version. I've tried disabling McAfee and getting windows updates, (I'm running XP)When I look in programs, ipod for updater it lists both 2004-08-06 and 2005-10-12. The error message reads" itunes has encountered a problem and needs to close" Quicktime does not open either and gives the same error mess. Will uninstalling and reinstalling itunes help? and if so, I loose my entire collection right?

    hi daytimer!
The error message reads" itunes has encountered a problem and needs to close" Quicktime does not open either
hmmm. that strongly suggests that the itunes problem is due to a broken quicktime. let's try a careful standalone QT 7.0.3 reinstall first.
download and save the QT installer to your hard drive. (we'll run the install from there rather than online.) switch off all antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the install.
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/standalone.html
does the install go through okay? if so, does itunes launch properly after that?

  • ITunes has encountered a problem and needs to close.  PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!

I bought the Apple airport router I installed it with the provided disc and that same day my iTunes would not come up. For window users I get the box that reads iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience with a box that you click to Send Error Report. Here is the error……… AppName: itunes.exe AppVer: 7.6.2.9 ModName: unknown
    ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 000a019a
I figured that my music files somehow were corrupt and that shi_ happens. Well a week later I was having troubles with the Apple router so I returned it and uninstalled it from my program files C drive. Then I gave iTunes another shot and it opened. Weird, I know. Well my next router was a Net gear it worked fine but it lagged on COD4 while online with my PC, so I returned it. Then I bought a Belkin - N1 Vision Wireless-N Wireless Router and it did not come with an install disc just plug and play. That very same day my iTunes gave me that **** error again. This time I can’t try to uninstall it from my program files because it was plug and play. I already tried to do a system restore and I shut down my PC and start it back up without the router plugged in and still no luck. I also tried to repair iTunes and that didn’t work. I went to the Geek Squad and they tell me the two issues can’t be related (a router not allowing my iTunes to run). My computer is running on Windows XP Pro. I’m now playing my music through Windows Media Player. I’m in ****!!!! Can someone please help me!!!!! I also tried a few things on iTunes support and they didn’t work. I will be more than happy finically facilitate someone for helping me get my iTunes up and running like usual. Dallas @ [email protected] I’ll be checking this thread every day. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

,......"The enstaller encountered errors before the requested operations for Quicktime could not be completed. To retry these operations at a later time, please run the installer again."
Checking on things that can cause QuickTime launch errors and install/uninstall errors now.
Have you at any stage installed an ACE or K-Lite Mega Codec Pack, any copies of the programs QT Alternative, QT Lite or Storm Codec, or any media converter programs that can convert files into QuickTime readable formats?
(I'm checking on these things because depending on the versions of the programs/codec-packs, these can install earlier versions of QuickTime componentry on a PC, which can interfere with the running/installing of a higher version of QuickTime.)

  • Itunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. we are sorry for the i

    thank you Abner!
Itunes has encountered a problem and needs to close
the first thing that i check for when people report getting that message when they try to launch their itunes is a broken QuickTime.
try to open your QuickTime. does it launch properly, or do you get an error message?
if you get an error message, the first thing we'll try is a careful standalone QT 7.1 reinstall.
download and save a copy of the QT 7.1 standalone installer to your hard drive. (we'll run the install from there rather than online.) switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the install.
    Quicktime 7.1 Standalone Installer
if that install goes through okay, does your itunes launch properly again?
(if you get an error message on the QT standalone reinstall, let us know what it says. include error message numbers if you're getting any.)

  • I When ever I try to open iTunes, it immediately freezes and says "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close."

I am using a Windows 7 laptop, 64 bit. When ever I try to open iTunes, it immediately freezes and says "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close." I have tried uninstalling then reinstalling, and also going back to previous versions. Any ideas as to how to fix this? Thanks!!

You need to remove all installer file, uninstall iTunes and all related programs, then do a clean install.
    Try the following steps:
    1. Go to Microsoft website to fix install and Unistall problems. Click "Run now" from Fix it to remove all iTunes & related installer files:
    http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall
Be aware that Windows Installer CleanUp Utility will not remove the actual program from your computer. However, it will remove the installation files so that you can start the installation, upgrade, or uninstall over.
    2. You should remove all instances of iTunes and the rest of the components listed below:
it may be necessary to remove all traces of iTunes, QuickTime, and related software components from your computer before reinstalling iTunes.
Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order:
    iTunes
    QuickTime
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
Follow the instructions from Apple article listed here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923 to remove all components
    3. Reboot your computer. Next, download iTunes from here:http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ and install from scratch

  • "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close." Quicktime problem!

I'm having a MaJoR problem with Quicktime and iTunes, but i think the main problem is Quicktime since iTunes runs off of it. I've never been able to install Quicktime, and i recently bought an iPod, and when i try to install Quicktime and iTunes the download goes great, but as soon as i try to open either one i get the error "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." i've tried about 7 or 8 times now, using the Apple help page too. Please let me know if u have any idea how to fix this.

Here's what worked for other users; perhaps it will work for you (I've never had this problem so I can't say for sure):
    1) Uninstall QuickTime from the Add/Remove Programs control panel. If you have difficulties, Microsoft's Installer Cleanup Utility, as you mention, may help.
    2) Clean up the Windows registry with http://www.ccleaner.com/ (freeware)
    3) Restart your system.
    4) Delete the QuickTime folder
    5) Reinstall QT ( you can get QT separately here.
    Good luck.

  • Help "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close..."

I have windows XP with service pack 2 installed and downloaded iTunes from the apple website, when i click on the iTunes icon on the desk top or from the itunes folder it will not open, I get the following error "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience" then gives you the option to send error report or don't send. I have already uninstalled and reinstalled it several times and it keeps doing the same thing. Anybody know what I need to do to get it to work???

    Hi -
I apologize for waiting a couple of days to post - I got sidetracked. Anyway, my "fix" involved a lot of trial and error and stumbling around in the dark, but it does seem to have worked so far. Hopefully I can put together a coherent enough sequence of events to help you out.
Preface: While you're doing these steps, disable your antiviral/spyware programs just to make sure that's eliminated as a source of problems.
    1) Using the Add/Remove Programs function, uninstall ITunes, Quicktime and any IPod software.
    2) Download the Windows Installer Cleaup utility from Microsoft:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301
Install this on your computer. As I understand it, this is basically a program that goes one level deeper to remove software from your computer. Once it's installed, open it and use it to remove anything involving ITunes, Quicktime and IPod.
    3) Unfortunately, you still probably haven't removed all the problem traces of Quicktime from your computer. To edit your registry, select "Run" from the Start menu and type "regedit" or "regedt32" in the box. A window should open with the registry editor. There will be a really long list of files on the left side. Scroll down about 2/3 of the way and you'll see a series of folders with "Quicktime" in the name. Right-click on each of these and select "delete." Do the same for "ITunes" and "IPod" folders in this alphabetical list.
    Not done yet.
Under the "Edit" menu, select "Find." Do a search on "Quicktime" - unfortunately there is no "find all" function. So the first file with "Quicktime" will come up; right-click and delete it. Press F3 to find another file and delete - repeat until you've gotten rid of all the Quicktime files. Then search on "ITunes" and do the same process; finally do the same for "IPod." This will take some time.
**Warning: Be very careful not to accidentally delete files not marked with Quicktime, IPod or ITunes. Messing around with the registry is serious stuff that a non-computer expert such as myself should probably not be doing .
    4) Finally, once you've gotten rid of everything Quicktime, ITunes or IPod-related, download the latest versions of Quicktime and ITunes (separately). Install Quicktime first, then install ITunes.
Note: You have to have adminstrator access on your computer to edit the registry.
    Hope this helps...

  • What to do?! "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close"

    Hi all,
I am on the verge of ripping my hair out!!! I upgraded my sisters itunes to version 9.0. The upload was successful and itunes opens, HOWEVER this error appears after about 15 seconds **iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.**
I have done the following things:
    - uninstalled itunes and all affiliates associated with it
    - re-installed itunes
    - - uninstalled itunes and all affiliates associated with it then rebooted teh laptop, then re-stalled again.
I have done this SEVERAL times and it is sending me round the bend!!!!
    Can someone please help??????

    *Replying to whitepine:*
Fair enough about taking some time away from this.
When you get back to it, if just *swapping out* your Apple Application Support (AAS) doesn't help, we'll try upgrading your AAS version. I'll give you instructions on that now
I'm pretty sure you've got an AAS version 1.0.1 on your PC, but to check, the easiest way is to go into "Add or Remove Programs", select "Apple Application Support" and click "Support Information". Last time I checked, the iTunes 9.0.2.25 installer bundle included an AAS 1.0.1.
However, the *Safari for Windows version 4.0.4* installer bundle contains *AAS version 1.1.0* ... the later version of AAS contains later versions of a bunch of the dlls, including corefoundation.dll. (My corefoundation.dll version number is 1.544.19.0.) And I've seen updating the AAS version to 1.1.0 help with a couple of other iTunes crashes so far.
There are a number of options for going about upgrading your AAS version.
*If you already have Safari for Windows:* Upgrade to version 4.0.4.
*If you don't have Safari for Windows but wouldn't mind having it:* Install Safari 4.0.4.
    http://www.apple.com/safari/download/
*If you don't have SfW and don't want it*, there's a couple of options I can think of:
    (1) Install SfW 4.0.4 and then uninstall it (you'll have still updated your AAS to the newer version in the course of doing the install).
    (2) In Apple Software Update for Windows ("Start > All programs > Apple Software Update"), go "Tools > Open Downloaded Updates Folder". Delete any files currently in there. Now check SfW 4.0.4 in the list in Apple Software Update, and go "Tools > Download only". After the download completes, go back into the Downloaded Updates folder, and double-click on the AppleApplicationSupport.msi file to do a "standalone" AAS install.

  • ITunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. Sorry

After upgrading to iTunes9.0 I can no longer use the application. Everytime I try to open it I get an error message that iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close.
I've deleted it and re-installed following all the troubleshooting steps in various FAQ documents. I've disconnected from the internet and re-connected. I've completely removed iTunes and QuickTime from my PC. I've changed out IE handles cookies. I've changed audio output to headphone speakers. I've stopped Apple Moblie services. I've cleaned out Windows Installer. I feel like I've tried everything. I'm at a total loss.
The program installed properly and will open. It immediately tries to connect to the iTunes Store. The progress bar at the top shows 1/2 complete when the error message pops up.
    Any suggestions?

Well I was able to successfully revert back to iTunes8. Here's my steps:
    1. In Add/Remove Programs I deleted all Apple products (iTunes, QuickTime, Safari, Bonjour, etc.)
    2. I then check C:\Program Files\ and made sure all folders were deleted (QuickTime, etc.)
    3. I then ran a Registry Cleaner program to make sure all entries from Apple products were removed.
    4. I then rebooted my PC
    5. I then downloaded iTunes8.0.2 from here: http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/ipod_itunes/itunes802forwindows.html
    6. After it installed it said it could use my iTunes library file because it was created with a newer version. So I re-created my library by following these steps: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1451
It took some time but iTunes is now back up and running. And I have all my playlists, etc. I haven't tried to sync anything yet. I'm just thrilled to have my iTunes back!

  • This pop up: iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close.

my itunes worked before but i downloaded it in the wrong user and that user got deleted, now when i install it and it installs and i go to run it and it says iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. so i uninstall i TUNES and iPOD and install it again but it still has the same error. HELP ME. so i goto more infomation and this comes up
AppName: itunes.exe AppVer: 6.0.5.20 ModName unknown
    ModVer:0.0.0.0 Offset 10001040
    Reporting details
This error report includes: information reguarign the condtion the condition of iTunes when the problem occurred; the operating system version and computer hardware in-use...ect ect
    windows xp   Windows XP Pro

He's right. Make sure you follow ALL the instructions for uninstalling.
I think the problem is actually related to a Quicktime error, and not iTunes, but it relies on Quicktime.
One of these two things fixed this same problem for me:
-Deleting the Quicktime files in the System32 folder (mentioned in the uninstalling instructions).
-Installing Quicktime by itself FIRST, then installing iTunes
I think the Quicktime files in the System32 folder were the culprit, though.

  • ITUNES HAS ENCOUNTERED A PROBLEM AND NEEDS TO CLOSE  PROBLEMS

PLEASE HELP ME. I CAN NOT GET INTO ITUNES. I KEEP GETTING THE ERROR MESSAGE "ITUNES HAS ENCOUNTERED A PROBLEM AND NEEDS TO CLOSE" ERROR . WHAT MUST I DO? ITRIED TO REINSTALL THE SOFTWARE,BUT IT DID NOT WORK. HELP

First, try to check your Quicktime installation--this has been discussed over and over again on the forum. If Quicktime won't launch--that's the problem. You can uninstall and reinstall this application.
I just had this failure a few days ago. I chose to "repair" my Quicktime installation instead of re-doing the whole thing. I TURNED OFF MY VIRUS PROTECTION AND FIREWALL BEFORE I PROCEEDED! Then, I let Windows run a repair and everything worked properly afterwards!
