ITunes Interface appears scrambled

Hello, I have been using iTunes and iPod for about a year now, and this is the first time I have encountered a problem like this. Occasionally and with no discernable pattern, when I bring up my main iTunes window after having it minimized to the taskbar, all text regarding song information will be scrambled. The song title, artist, last date played, my rating, etc. etc. It looks as if the text has all been overlapped with the text directly above or below it. This clears out when scrolling the iTunes menu up or down. Also, more rarely after bringing the main window up from the taskbar, the interface will be blacked out. All the parts of the interface which would normally appear grey are simply jet black, including the minimize, resize and close buttons. This is fixed by minimizing and restoring the window. This is not a critical problem, but it is becoming annoying and any advice as to how to fix it permanantly would be helpful. One thing I am doing that may be out of the ordinary is that my Library is not on my computer's hard disk, but rather I am playing my music off of my iPod through iTunes. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
THANKS!
Toshiba Satelite Series   Windows XP

You can try reinstalling iTUnes, or installing the stand alone version of quicktime. Quicktime is known to cause blackness in itunes, like along the sides.
You can go here and install "Quicktime WITHOUT iTUnes" this is the stand alone version http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/standalone.html

I was having problems getting me iPad Remote app to work with my Apple TV 1.  So I deleted then re-added it to my iPad.
It did find my Apple TV 1 and sync, but now it only shows an itunes interface and there seems to be no way to use it

    Recovery Mode
    1. Disconnect the USB cable from the device, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
    2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
3.While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
    4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears, release the Home button. iTunes should alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode. Click OK, and then click Restore to restore the device.
Note: Data will be lost. You may have to repeat the above many times.

  • ITunes Interface Issues (Four of Them)

    iTunes
    _version 10.1.0.54_
    _iPod nano 5G_
*1. Making Itself The Active Window Constantly*
The iTunes window is constantly forcing itself to be the active or focused window---bringing itself to the front! I can hardly believe this is an intentional design of the application since it violates basic rule of the Windows' user interface: if it is not a bug in the application, it qualifies the application as a virus or malware. Anyway, what is the resolution of this bug?
*2. Proper file/database maintenance of Podcasts*
On Podcast subscriptions where I have the setting "Keep all unplayed episodes," iTunes does appear to be removing the played episode from the iPod when it senses it has been played, but the episode appears to remain checked in iTunes and it does not delete itself (at least it should uncheck itself, right?). Note that the config for iTunes is for full syncing, and not for manual management of iTunes items in the several categories (Music, Movies, Videos, Podcasts, etc.)
*3. No Syncing of Podcasts Unless Drag-and-Drop Done*
Syncing of iTunes to my iPod on Podcast subscription does NOT occur unless I do a drag-and-drop of the subscription header to the connected device listing in the left panel (sidebar). This is true even though the episode is in the CHECKED state and the iPod is set for full syncing and not user-managed. This is required once for podcast subscriptions: once done, iTunes appears to manage copying and deleting of episodes based upon subscription settings (many of mine are all "keep all unplayed episodes." This defies the expected logic of the user interface.
    *4. Loss of Music/Song Ratings*
Recently I tried to implement a solution to a problem in which connecting the iPod always involved a "Scan and Fix" message from Windows. The solution was offered at the Yahoo Answers website, which of course should be given a high level of suspicion as to whether the solution offered is correct for the problem, but given the detail given by the answerer (http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080814045819AAyt51C), it seemed worth implementing. Well, it didn't, and I only managed to lose my Music Ratings. How do I preserve or backup the Ratings in iTunes before doing something potentially drastic.
By the way, the solution that worked was to check the Enable Disk Usage in iTunes, then to exit iTunes, connect the iPod so that it was visible as an assigned drive storage device in Explorer, and then run "chkdsk /f <drive-letter-of-iPod>".

iTunes has been doing this for a long time. I and I'm sure many others have sent feedback. Hopefully it will eventually be fixed.
*2. Proper file/database maintenance of Podcasts*
They don't need to be unchecked within iTunes as your rules for all unplayed/most recent 5 etc. will manage what gets included. The blue dot alongside episodes should update to reflect unplayed, partially played and played status each time you sync.
*3. No Syncing of Podcasts Unless Drag-and-Drop Done*
Check the settings on each of the media tabs with your device connected. Syncing all music has no effect on which Movies or Podcasts are synced. I suspect your currently have it set to sync all unplayed episodes of selected podcasts instead of all.
    *4. Loss of Music/Song Ratings*
As Katrina says the *iTunes Library.itl* file is where ratings, playlists etc are stored. However in addition to backing this file up you should also consider backing up all of your media as well. Here is how I do it.
*Fast backup for iTunes library (Windows Only)*
Grab SyncToy 2.1, a free tool from MS. This can be used to copy your entire iTunes library (& other important data folders) onto another hard drive or network share. You can then use SyncToy periodically to synchronise or echo your library to the backup. A preview will show which files need to be updated giving you a chance to spot unexpected changes and during the run only the new or updated files will be copied saving lots of time. And if your media is all organised below the main iTunes folder then you should also be able to open the backup library on any system running the same version of iTunes.

Check the music tab on the iPhones iTunes page, and make sure "sync all music" is checked. If you chose only to sync certain music, new music will not automatically show up.

If it is otherwise working, you can change the battery.  If you want to do it yourself, you can buy the part on eBay and other online sources.  Just make sure you know the type of iPod you have so that you get the right part.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1353
There are online guides, including the ones on this web site
    http://www.ifixit.com/Device/iPod
(Note:  Most replacement batteries come with plastic/nylon tools seen in the guides.)
You can also have a repair business do the work.
If it is just the battery, if you do a Reset (using the Menu and Select buttons) while it is connect to your computer, I think it should still be recognized by iTunes.

Just upgraded iTunes to version 11.0.2.26...... now have no music or apps..... they are still in the iTunes library on the pc, just not in the iTunes interface.... ideas anyone..?

    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
Note with iTunes 11 an "empty" library may show all your purchases with cloud icons that allow them to be streamed or downloaded from Apple's servers.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!
If, for some inexplicable reason, the media has been removed from your computer see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

  • New network interfaces appear / networking fails

    Hi
I have a strange behaviour of my ethernet networking interface. Every time I restart the mac the network connection is lost (I usally keep it in sleep and have no problems for days and weeks).
As soon as I enter the network setup I get the message that a new network connection has been found, called "Ethernet (integrated) 1 (or 2, 7, 8 number increases)"
If I look at my network configuration I see a long list of "Ethernet interface ((null))" and in beetween some "Ethernet (integrated) 1)" and the like
It usally takes a couple of restarts of the network preferences and then the interface appears in the "network status" view and the mac connects to the router.
I don't have any external networking cards and the like, just the ibook and a standard router. The router also connects to our mac mini without any problems I it ran for at least half a year with the ibook before this occured.
I would be very thankfull for any help since this is very annoying.
BTW I don't move the computer around and it is connected with a network cable.
    Cheers

    1st step, get Applejack...
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/19596
After installing, reboot holding down CMD+s, then when the prompt shows, type in...
    applejack AUTO
Then let it do all 5 of it's things.
At least it'll eliminate some questions if it doesn't fix it.
2nd step, trash, (or drag to the desktop), these files...
    /Users/nnnn/Library/Preferences/com.apple.internetconnect.plist
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/preferences.plist
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/NetworkInterfaces.plist
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.networkConfig.plist

New songs synced to my ipod wont play, the songs play fine on itunes and appear on ipod but wont play..any help appreciated

So, if you select one of these songs on the iPods screen, and try to play it, what happens?  The iPod does nothing?  It skips to the next song?
It's possible you will have to do a Restore on the iPod, if there is data corruption on the iPod causing this problem.  The Restore erases the iPod, and removes any corruption.
NOTE:  There may be a hardware problem, such as the iPod's hard drive becoming unreliable, that is causing this problem and data issues.  It may continue to operate as long as its data stays mostly unchanged, but if you do a Restore to update the hard drive's data in a major way, it is possible that the Restore will fail and leave the iPod non-operable.

  • How To Delete "Duplicated Songs Names" in iTunes Interface

    Hi,
I have ripped and stored some songs in Apple Lossless on an external hdd.
I tried to transfer the songs from the ext. hdd, which is in Apple Lossless, to AAC iTunes and store them on my MacBook Pro, which has smaller hdd.
Without knowing what went wrong, now my "iTunes interface shows each of the songs that's on my ext. hdd(Apple Lossless) TWICE, but with only ONE copy of the actual songs(Apple Lossless)".
I was instructed to remove the "duplicated songs names from the inteface" and let the iTunes Library update itself.
But 5282 songs to "select & delect" the duplicated names in the interface is too "tedious".
So, is there any FASTER ways that can let me make my iTunes Library back to what it should be?
    Thanks.
    Ed
ps. I'm not sure, but can I create a NEW iTunes Library, and let it scan and add the songs(in Apple Lossless format and on an external hdd), so that the songs will only show ONCE in my iTunes interface?

let me start by saying that i let iTunes manage my library, i.e. i have +keep iTunes media folder organized+ and +copy files to ... when adding to library+ checked in preferences > advanced. all that follows below is based on those settings being enabled !
i'm doing something similar. my Apple lossless files are stored on an external HD. i add these files to my library by *option dragging* them from the external into an open iTunes window. iTunes will index the path to the original's location (the external), but not physically add the files to the main library's drive.
with the external connected, i then have iTunes convert the lossless files to AAC 256, which are thus added to the main library.
i, too, have duplicate entries for those files: one being the lossless, the other being the AAC version.
there is no way around that, unless you manually remove the entries for the lossless files after the conversion.
I was instructed to remove the "duplicated songs names from the inteface" and let the iTunes Library update itself.

i am quite happy with having duplicate, even triplicate entries in my library - i know how and why they are there. so, *... my iTunes Library back to what it should be* may be really quite different from one user to the next.
there are some tools to help you with the task of removing dupes, one of which is included in iTunes:
_*How to find and remove duplicate items in your iTunes library*_
    _*http://www.araxis.com/find-duplicate-files/ (free trial)*_
    _*http://dougscripts.com/itunes/itinfo/dupin.php (commercial)*_
ps. I'm not sure, but can I create a NEW iTunes Library, and let it scan and add the songs(in Apple Lossless format and on an external hdd), so that the songs will only show ONCE in my iTunes interface?
yes. again, you can *option drag* content from any location into iTunes without copying the actual files. since iTunes 9, there is also the +automatically add to iTunes+ folder - just drop content there and it will be added to the library. and there is alway the good old +add to library+ command under the file menu.
to start with a clean slate, launch iTunes while pressing option. @ the prompt, choose to +create new library+ and start populating the empty new library by whichever way you like. obviously, creating a new library means all your playlists, playcounts, and ratings will be gone.
