Before I upgraded to iTunes 7.0 I was able to connect however, when I did upgrad it ended my ability to connect iTunes. Can someone please give me instructions on how to resolve this problem? • Itunes internet connection error

When I try to install ITunes, an error pops up saying, "We're unable to connect to the download server. It seems that you internet connection is down or firewalled." I checked my internet, and its fine. This usually happens with every program I try to install.

+I have dial up so i don’t know if this might be causing the problem, is there anyway to fix this?+
Sounds like the dial=up connection is dropping. My advice is to get it from a friend's house that has high speed internet. Put the iTunes Setup.exe file on a USB memory stick, take it to your PC and drag it to the desktop. Then run the install.

  • Strange itunes internet connection problem

    Hey all,
i've been experiencing a strange iTunes problem this summer and was hoping I could get some help. If it helps, im on windows XP (sp2) with the newest version of iTunes.
    Here's my problem:
When I insert a CD to import into my library, iTunes fails to retrieve any track info from the internet. This is despite having my preferences set to Automatically retrieve CD track names from the internet. I don't get an error message or anything, just a failure to get any names. However, I can click Advanced -> Get CD Track Names and it will retrieve the names like nothing was wrong in the first place...strange. But there's more:
I can no longer see any Radio stations or categories when I click the Radio tab, just an empty window pane appears with no accompanying error message. To confuse me further, I can get on the iTunes Music store with no problem whatsoever. I haven't tried downloading a song yet, but I can at least stream samples...
so then I go Help -> run Diagnostics -> Network Connection, and I get a FAILED red light for "Internet Connection Status"
    what is the DEAL?!

When you run network diagnostics and anything fails, there is a help button that should come up to help troubleshoot what might be blocking itunes.
Try turning off any internet security, firewall or anti-malware that you might have running on the computer. If this works, then check the website for the programs you turned off and see if there are any updates.
Here is an article from the apple support website that might help out.

  • Problems signing in to Itunes - internet connection

    Hi,
For the past couple of days I have been unable to sign in to itunes. Whenever I enter my apple ID and password it says "accessing itunes" however after upto a minute a window pops up saying "the network connection timed out... make sure your network connection is active"
However, i'm connected to the internet, can access the internet and the itunes store. The itunes store is also in general, working (i.e. I can browse the store and listen to the songs).
I was wondering if there was just a problem with the itunes store and other people are having similar difficulties or if its just me!
    please help!

Hi, glad to hear it's not just me then! I've not been able to log on to my account since last weekend - I replaced my Apple TV mk1 and added an Apple TV2, maybe the two are connected although I've tried most things I can think of. re-install iTunes, fix permissions, changed router, etc although I'm still using a BT HomeHub2 as my modem as the Apple wireless doesn't have one. I suspect it might have something to do with BT. Like you the rest of my internet is working fine, interestingly, I can connect direct to the iTunes store via my 3G iPad no problem, so it must be something to do with my home set up. I'll keep trying and let you know if I solve the problem. Any good ideas from anyone else very welcome!!

  • ITunes Internet Connection Problems

For a couple of days now, my iTunes hasn't been able to connect to the internet, even though my internet is running perfectly.  I tried troubleshooting it and nothing worked (I tried literally everything).  Not only will iTunes not work, but neither will Google Chrome.  My internet runs perfectly on Internet Explorer, but never on external programs such as iTunes or Chrome.  This has been happening since the final day of iTunes 10.7.  I need some advice as to what to do in this situation ASAP.

I already turned everything like Shared Music, etc.
off but it didn't help anything.
Make sure you also turn off "Look for Remote Speakers connected with AirTunes". I forgot about that one.
I'm using a D-Link Router and I've read that there
could be some problems with a service called "Bonjour
Service" but I couldn't find something like that in
the settings. The firmware is up to date
"Bonjour" is the name given to a type of communication iTunes and Apple software uses for networking. D-Link routers are, generally, buggy pieces of garbage, and Bonjour triggers a bug in them, causing them to act all fruity.
If you have the Sharing stuff turned on, or the AirTunes stuff turned on, then iTunes is sending out broadcast packets to your network, basically saying "is there anybody out there", looking for shared music or AirTunes devices.
Do you reckon it's my router? But why do I only have
problems with iTunes then? Everything else is running
perfectly. I can't realy see why I should buy a new
router because of iTunes (how weird).
Yes, it is definitely a problem with your router. iTunes is simply sending out stuff that happens to trigger a bug in your router's firmware.
If you can't get a firmware update, honestly, I'd get a router that isn't D-Link. Like I said, garbage. But, for now, turning off iTunes ability to send Bonjour packets out will temporarily fix the problem. In the long run though, some other software could just as easily make your router act up.

  • Itunes says I don't have an internet connection but I can access the internet.  I turned my firewall off.  How do I get onto itunes store

I can't access my itunes store, it says I don't have an internet connection but I do.  I tried updating to the newest version of itunes, turned off my firewall, checked to make sure itunes was allowed in my internet options.  what else can i do?

    Hello bigblue8
Check out the following articles for troubleshooting access to the iTunes Store. The first one will probably get you started enough to get it taken care of. If it does not the follow up article should definitely solve it for you.

  • ITunes RADIO is not working.  "iTunes could not connect to the iTunes Store. Make sure your internet connection is active and try again." Try as I may, as many as ten attempts, trying to connect after restart, after shutdown, nothing works. Just so -  iTu

    iTunes RADIO is not working.
“iTunes could not connect to the iTunes Store. Make sure your internet connection is active and try again.” Try as I may, as many as ten attempts, trying to connect after restart, after shutdown, nothing works. Just so …
iTunes STORE not “connectable” with my otherwise perfectly-working internet connection, viable, up and running for all other uses.
Simply put, firstly, I can't connect to the internet when I click on Radio.  People are quite suspicious that this is Apple incompetence or your company's famous arrogance for this commonly-suffered problem that you won't or “can’t” fix.
Read the many web comments and you won’t be pleased with yourselves: the suspicion is that if you ruin internet radio on iTunes, Apple will somehow make more money on music downloads, etc. Bull.
Also, thirdly, my old playlist of 20 or so internet radio stations in the Ambient category STILL PLAYS !
Then fourth, I installed the latest available version of QuickTime Player 7.app Version 7.6.6 but it didn’t solve the problem either. I had QuickTime Player.app Version 10.2, but substituted what Apple website said was the latest, LOWER NUMBERED QuickTime Player version of 7.6.6
Fifth, I can't connect to iTunes store no matter what I do or what user group's advice I try. So I can’t buy or download anything from iTunes. Bad for business.
Sixth, I updated to the latest version of iTunes but this weird problem remains. All suggested Apple fixes or user group fixes are useless. Where is Apple’s famous technical competency, vaunted customer support?, and user-friendly product reputation? Get it back, please.
Solve this problem of yours ASAP for us, your numerous disgruntled, dissatisfied customers of iTunes. You can do better, should, and really –in all fairness- must.

  • ITunes crashes my internet connection almost every time I launch it

    Hello,
since my last upgrading to iTunes 10.1.2, (I did not do it for a long while), I am experiencing severe disconnections from the internet. These disconnections do not usually occur at the moment of the lauching, but a little bit later, when I am looking for a specific tune. The application seems freeze during its searching, then I lose my internet connection. It becomes not possible to retrieve the connection once lost, apart from restarting the computer. It is extremely frustrating. This occurs 3 times out of 4... Are some people experiencing the same problems as me, and will the developers do something?
I am connected to a Neuf-SFR box router by the way of an Hercules Wifi key. I tried to remove the key and plug it again after the problem occurs, but nothing happened.

Just for info, I just discovered the long long thread about the blank page instead of the iTunes store screen (cf http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2743839&tstart=0 ): I had the same trouble, that was the reason why I decided to upgrade to the last release of itunes. The end being, that now the goody good screen appears like before, but that the new release cuts my internet connection a few time after I've launched it.

  • Why does my iPhone not show up in iTunes on a mac that has a shared internet connection from another mac?

I have what I would consider a difficult question. I called Apple Care and after she spoke to a senior advisor, the representative ended up saying it wasn't possible.
Having said that, I'm sure this is not a difficult question for people with networking expertise.
    Setup
So...I have a MacBook receiving a WiFi signal via AirPort.
In System Preferences, I have turned on Internet sharing (share airport over Ethernet).
I connected the Ethernet port on my MacBook to the Ethernet port on my MDD PowerMac G4.
At this point, I can successfully browse the web, perform software updates, and view other computers and iTunes libraries on my network from my G4.
    Goal
However, in iTunes on my G4 I would like to use iTunes DJ.
    Tried
    So...I click on iTunes DJ.
I set the settings (button in bottom right) to allow guest remotes, etc.
I turned on iTunes Home Sharing (logged into the same account as by iPhone).
    Problem
However, from the Remote app on my iPhone, I am unable to see the library on my G4.
Also, if I want to pair my iPhone Remote app with iTunes on my G4, I click add Library in the Remote app, but iTunes on the G4 never displays my iPhone in the left column (although I am able to see all other iTunes libraries being shared on the network).
Thus, I cannot connect to iTunes as a guest Remote, nor can I connect as paired remote.
I have successfully done both of these things with computers connected directly to my modem, as well as with computers connected via WiFi.
The problem is connecting devices to computers that get their internet connection though another computer via internet sharing.
    Question
So my question is about Internet sharing itself. Is it not a fully featured ad-hoc network? Does it only provide browsing capabilities and the ability to browse networked computers, but NOT devices such as an iPhone? I don't see the difference; my iPhone is on the same network as the computers, so why is there no communication between it and computers that gain their Internet connection through another computer?
I really hope someone out there who is an expert in networking can help me out with this. Or if it truly is impossible, if someone could explain to me why that is the case, I would also appreciate it.
ps. I usually have my MacBook sharing its Internet connection through an old router that I am using as a switch because I share the connection with three other computers. And if it isn't obvious, the modem is downstairs, and the MacBook, old router being used as a switch, and other computers are upstairs where there is no Ethernet wired.
Thank you in advance for any help.

  • HT1751 I need to set up iTunes to run on my local network, independent of the internet because of a bad internet connection.

I have Hughes Net, for internet. Due to this, iTunes in the cloud, does not operate for us. I need to put my music on a local drive, and create a network drive, to use iTunes, while at home. (I'm still not sure about how I'll handle the music on our iPhones). I have a current AirPort Extreme, (802.11ac), and I have a 64gb flash drive, as well as a 1.5TB external SATA drive, that can be used. I'd like to NOT have to keep the MacBook Pro powered on all the time, but would still like to play music, through/on my iPads and iPhones, while at home.
How can I set this up, to run, independent of the cruddy internet service, which won't allow me to stream a single song, without stopping to buffer, for multiple long periods, during one song?

itunes can share music over the network without an internet connection, but you will need a computer running itunes powered on to be able to share it (setup in itunes by going to file (windows) or itunes (mac) > preferences > sharing)
if you just want to setup a network attached storage drive for the network that holds all the music that would be done independently of itunes and you would need a compatible NAS drive (I don't believe the airport is technically a nas drive but you could ask that section of support communities as well https://discussions.apple.com/community/wireless/airport)

  • My IPOD and Macbook Pro both will not connect to the Itunes store through Itunes says no internet connection, but I can connect through safari and I have a internet connection

My IPOD and Macbook Pro both will not connect to the Itunes store through Itunes says no internet connection, but I can connect through safari and I have a internet connection

As I mentioned above, I am not very tech savvy so I have no idea why a wireless protocol would be showing up there, I'm just listing everything I see in hopes that someone might know something I can try. This is why I am asking for help here - I'm not sure what has happened that has made me unable to connect, especially since it seemingly occured while nobody was using the computer.
I guess I should clarify that I'm not a total hillbilly- normally my firewall is set to 'on', but I set it to 'off' to try and troubleshoot the issues here as I was told that sometimes it can interfere with the computer's ability to connect to the internet. If this is not the case and firewall does not affect anything, I will turn it back on while I try to fix this.
I have tried the method you mentioned above a few times - I actually contacted my ISP earlier this week and they recommended resetting the router like that. They didn't mention any known network issues.
