Itunes / ipad memory / storage issue

Dear All,
Having a major problem with my ipad.
I used the camera kit to download some pictures from my camera onto the ipad. (approx 9GB of pictures). Tonight I decided to change my TV shows and movies and noticed this 9gb chunk of photographs. So whilst the ipad was attached (but not actually syncing) to my mac I went into photographs on the ipad and deleted the imported files one by one.
This done I resynced but the 9 gb chunk on the storage bar was still showing. I restarted the mac and rebooted the ipad but the problem persisted. I then resorted to doing a full restore of the ipad but it is still there along with 3 Gb of Other.
Can anyone help me understand what has gone wrong and how to fix it?
thanks
Josh

I am assuming that after you loaded 9Gig of pictures to your iPad that you synced. to remove the pictures from the iPad you would need to connect the iPad to your PC/MAC and go to the Pictures tab and un-check the folder where those pictures are and then sync.

  • Ipad itunes downloaded causing storage issue

I had no idea my itunes music, photos and video's were so large that they have taken up about 50% of the storage on my new ipad. How do I delete them without losing them on my imac and iphone?

You must first sync your iPad with iTunes on your Mac!
Then you choose for "Manualy sync Music and Videos" in iTunes, then you can go to the tabs above, like Apps and uncheck there what you don't want on you iPad, the same for Music, Photos and Videos, then sync again.

  • Ipad mini storage issues!!!

I use an ipad mini, it has 16gb of storage. I have not used even 1 gb of it yet, and yet it is telling me i have used 10gb and only have 2gb left???
I don't know why it is doing this. I don't download movies, i buy them, leave them in the icloud, then when i want to watch them i stream them from straight from my icloud, but everytime i do so my storage shrinks and won't reset or go back up. Please help!! The nearest Apple store is an 1.5 hour's train ride from here and that's gonna cost me nearly £40

I had a similar issue with a phantom movie taking up space.  In my case, the solution was a "Restore."
Note that it could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow the on-screen directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.

  • ITunes / iPad Alphabetical Indexing Issue

On my iPad (3rd gen) the alphabetical order of my music library is all screwed up, when sorting by both album and artist. I have manually edited the fields in iTunes, and the indexing is fine in iTunes (on my Mac) and on my iPod nano. I was hoping the issue would resolve when I upgraded to iOS 6, but now its worse.  Now, when I search for a song and select it to play, a completely different song plays.  Can anyone help?  Thanks.

  • IPad 2 storage issues

I have an ipad2 with upgraded iOS 7 and was getting "not enough storage" messages. My music is in iCloud, so are my movies and I had about 50 apps totalling 5gb of usage. (Tallied the size by adding up all the mbs in the general>usage tab). Still, my 32gb ipad 2 was saying I only had 500mb of space left.
Apple - what kind of caching scheme do you have in place that it would eat 25gb of my disk space ?!?!?
Was going nuts, couldn't rent movies anymore etc.
So here are the steps I took:
    - enable iCloud back up and backed up my ipad (my back up size in iCloud is 600mb)
    - full reset on ipad (data and settings)
    - restore from iCloud back up.
    Took 20 minutes. Easy.
I know have 25gb of disk space back....
Apple there has got to be a better way to cleanse unused data than hard resets. Anyhow, hope this helps out.

With an iOS device, the “Other” space in iTunes is used to store things like documents, settings, caches, and a few other important items. If you sync lots of documents to apps like GoodReader, DropCopy, or anything else that reads external files, your storage use can skyrocket. With iOS 5/6/7, you can see exactly which applications are taking up the most space. Just head to Settings > General > Usage, and tap the button labeled Show All Apps. The storage section will show you the app and how much storage space it is taking up. Tap on the app name to get a description of the additional storage space being used by the app’s documents and data. You can remove the storage-hogging application and all of its data directly from this screen, or manually remove the data by opening the app. Some applications, especially those designed by Apple, will allow you to remove stored data by swiping from left to right on the item to reveal a Delete button.

  • ITunes and Network Storage Issues

I have 3 computers, all Vista, and have my ITunes Library on a NAS. When downloading music fron the ITunes Store on each computer, the new files are downloaded to the local machine, not to the NAS. What can be changed so that when anyone purchases a new song or app they are downloaded to the NAS, not the local machine, I know that each library is showing different song counts as the are not syncing properly with the NAS so we are all missing songs that each has downloaded.

iTunes copies purchased tracks and ripped CDS into the iTunes Music folder as designated in the local computer's iTunes preferences.
You could set the location of the iTunes folder to the NAS drive. This would copy the tracks there but not add them to the other PCs library database. That would have to be done manually from each PC.
However you could take a look at a third party utility such as Tune Ranger:

  • Storage issues not correct on ipad

I want to download a film off my cloud to my ipad but it iTunes says there are storage issues. I've deleted things and have well above the GB I need to download the entire film (as confirmed by 'usage') but it still says I haven't enough memory... It's driving me mad! Any tips?

  • IPad memory shows it's full - it was only half full when I last connected to iTunes

Since I bought my iPad 3 (64 GB) and connected it to iTunes, the memory used has, until today, been about half full. Today, when i connected the iPad to update the iOS software, it shows, suddenly, that I have less than 0.1 GB left, yet I've downloaded very little in the last week since it was last connected, and certainly no more than I usually do in any week. Any suggestions?

I suspect that your storage capacity is being taken up by "other". You can verify this by looking at the capacity bar in iTunes when your iPad is connected to your computer. "other" is basically all non media content like app data and documents, Safari History and bookmarks, Notes, Calendar entries, text messages, email messages, contacts and so on.
If the "other" is taking up a huge amount of space, something is corrupt on your iPad. Restoring the iPad may be necessary to make this right. Sometimes the only cure is to restore to factory settings and then rebuild your iPad by adding the content back onto it - not be restoring from a backup. Sometimes restoring from a backup can help this situation as well. You may have to experiment and see what works.
You can read this as well and see if recalibrating how the storage is calculated helps.

Try the tips in the articles first, restore from a backup if that doesn't work, and restore to factory settings if nothing else does the trick.

  • Why does iTunes match delete everything off my iPad memory every time I connect to pc?

iTunes recently deleted all my music off my iPad so it was only available to stream, which is no use to me. I've just connected to my pc again and gone, just like that every song has that horrible little cloud next to it. I spent a full day last weekend downloading everything to the iPad memory, looks like I'll be doing it again tomorrow.

    Gavin,
From what I understand the first time you connect your iPad it should wipe out all cloud based music but after that as you stream music ( which is not real streaming but download and play) it should then keep the music in case you want to replay it and only delete it to make room for any more music you download subsequently.
If that isn't happening then it's probably a bug!
    Regards,
    Shawn

  • IPad video storage usage does not match what iTunes displays

When viewing the storage usage for my iPad mini through iTunes, I noticed "Other" was at 19.45 GB. I thought this was a little strange since I am somewhat familiar with the type of data that is categorized under "Other". When I checked the storage usage through settings on the iPad itself I saw "Videos" was at 18.2 GB, however there are no Videos synced to my iPad. Also, when I check the "About" page in settings, again on my iPad, it shows there are 10 videos. Again, I have no actual Videos on my iPad. If I check the Videos app the only Videos that are displayed are the Videos that I have purchased, but they have not been downloaded to my iPad. ALL the videos within the Videos app have the cloud icon meaning they are available for download from iCloud.
I am wondering if "Other" is so large because the iPad is saving space to stream these videos, which I have done quite a few times. Most of the time I will stream the videos purchased through the iTunes Store, instead of downloading them, to help save space.
Here is a screenshot of my iPad's storage usage through iTunes. Notice there is no purple bar for videos, but "Other" is huge.
This is a screenshot of the storage usage directly from my iPad. However, there are currently no videos synced to my iPad. The only videos in the Video app are displayed with the iCloud icon.

I have noticed there is a difference between tapping the cloud icon and tapping the video itself. When I tap the video itself it begins to play, and seems to behave as if it is "streaming". Once the video is done or stopped playing the cloud icon remains. When I actually tap the cloud icon it begins to download, and once the download is complete the cloud icon disappears.
After I read your response I had an idea and turned off Wi-Fi on my iPad. I then opened the Videos app and suddenly all the videos disappeared EXCEPT for the videos I have recently watched. These videos also play just fine. When I turn Wi-Fi back on, all the purchased videos return, including the ones that didn't disappear, but they ALL have the cloud icon again.
Thank you for the information you provided! I have a better understanding of how these videos are stored now. If I am not mistaken, iTunes seems to think these are cached files, were the iPad sees them in a different way.
As for your suggestion with "Manually manage music and videos", there seems to be some strange behaviour going on. I have been manually managing the content I sync to my iPad for some time, but this option was not checked when I look at the "Summary" page in iTunes. I checked the box and clicked on sync. Once it was done, I went to choose the music I wanted to sync to my iPad. The moment I check the box for "Sync Music" I get the message shown below. I click on "Remove and Sync", then select music to sync to my iPad. Once that sync is done I go back to the "Summary" page and the "Manually manage music and videos" check box is not checked anymore. I am not understanding this option correctly, or is there something strange going on?

  • My iPad can't connect to iTunes, is there an issue on iTunes end?

For the past week, I have not been able to update any apps.  I have changed my password, I have made sure my connection is good still nothing.  Why can't I connect with iTunes?

I forgot to mention I have gone through the troubleshooting recommended and there is no issue from my stand point for my iPad 2.  That is why I am wondering if iTunes are experiencing server issues.

  • Itunes memory storage?

my c drive shows about 60 gb of available memory, but i cannot download podcasts because of insufficient memory storage.  i currently have 9 podcasts in memory and an extensive music library. is there a limit to number of podcasts to download or a limit to itunes memory apart from c drive?

No arbitrary limits. Is the media stored on the C drive or has it been located elsewhere? Can you post back the exact error message? Occasionally I've seen problems with software that contains lots of historic code and can be confused when the looking at the lower order bits of a large free space value and "thinking" there is free space problem when there isn't one. Perversely making a few temporary copies of some large files will allow the moment to pass...
