Hello,
I am ahving trouble getting music bought in iTunes (the $1.69 AUS one) to play on my iPaq. It transfers/copies OK. I tried changing the file format to mp3, still does not work. Any help appreciated.

What do I need to listen to iTunes on vintage (1950's) speakers?

I inherited a pair of enormous Altec Lansing speakers from my dad. Can someone tell me step by step how I can listen to iTunes and/ or internet radio on these speakers?

There's probably various ways. For all of them you will likely find the speakers need more power than your computer can provide through sound out, so you'll have to route everything through a secondary amplifier (e.g., home sound system). You can probably find a cord that will fit into your headphone socket and then into the amplifier (likely RCA style jack left and right channel). After that it's a matter of connecting the speakers to the amplifier.

Adding folders to itunes from my hard drive

i hope this is the right place to post, sorry if it's not...i am new to itunes, i just got an ipod today, and after downloading, installing, and loading itunes, i went to file, add folder to library, and selected the folder on my hard drive where i keep all my music...but after i did this my music folder became totally disorganized, as all of the songs that appeared on compilation albums were pulled out of the folder containing all of the songs on the album and put into individual folders for each song...for example, a 12 cd collection of popular music from 1950's-1990's featuring around 250 artists, the songs used to be organized into a folder for each album and all of those folders were within one larger folder...now i have 250 folders and many of the songs were poorly tagged, so it is all mixed up, and that is only for one compilation, i have several...as well, it created new folders every time a file was mistagged, so that there is now a folder for Tom Petty, a folder for Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, and a folder for Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers, whereas before they were all in the Tom Petty folder...needless to say i now find it much more difficult to find a particular file on my hard drive when i am looking for it...now to the question that i am sure you can all see coming a mile away...can i reverse what happened when i loaded that folder into itunes, like if i uninstall itunes will it fix it, because then i could take some precautions before i load in folders that aren't properly tagged, and forget altogether about loading compilation albums if that is what it is going to do to my music folder.

I don't think you want to tell iTunes not to keep your music folder organized, because that will leave you with having to organize it yourself. Like you said it will take weeks. What you can do is use the shift key to select an entire album or collection, right click the highlighted songs, get info, choose the options tab, check the box that says part of a compilation, and make sure it says yes. iTunes groups all compilations together in the folder called compilations under the name of the album. Next, make a smart playlist that says artist "contains" Tom Petty. Highlight the entire playlist. Right click on the list of songs. Get info. Type in "Tom Petty" as the album artist for all of them. This will not change the name of the artist in your playlist, but they will all be grouped one folder called Tom Petty. Note: If you have more than one song highlighted you will need to go to options to check the compilation box. However, if you are only changing one song, the check box is under the info tab, down at the bottom, to right of genre.

HT4527 After copying my iTunes library across from an external drive it does not show in iTunes. Why?

My old computer died. I had my iTunes library backed up to an external drive. I have followed the steps outlined and moved the itunes folder from the external to the music folder on my new imac. I have checked that the addres is correct but when I opened itunes non of my music shows up. I can find a track file click on it and then it will open up, play and stay in itunes. But I would spend the rest of my life importing the songs one by one. Help ?

When I started Itunes with the shift key down I was prompted to choose a library but since I copied over the media folder and not the library folder I was unable to select that so I guess I will have to create a new library and add in all the music, videos, etc. unless I wait for my laptop and export the library or at least that seems to be the case? In short, all my data (iTunes media folder) is on my external drive and can be added to the blank iTunes screen but I can not choose a library folder. Is there anyway around completely making all those playlists again? I am not sure my laptop will survive the shop with data intact and really hate to start over on those.
In an unrelated question - I collect old TV shows from the 1950's. Can I make playlists within the home video folder somehow? In other words like one for Quiz shows, one for comedies, one for police and detective shows, etc. while I am remaking all my playlists for my music if I end up having to go that route?

Is there ANY way to fix lousy volume on iTunes songs?

I've tried everything, it seems. Various songs purchased from the iTunes store (and some transferred from CDs) have seriously weak volume -- not just in "quiet" passages but often the entire song. Yes, I've tried boosting the volume in the iTunes "Get Info" menu, but the effect is insufficient. Raising the volume enough to play in a car can produce awful distortion and won't compensate for those quiet passages in classical music, soundtracks, or pop songs from the 1930s-1950s. That can be fixed only with a sound processing application.
I have tried the third party software recommended elsewhere in these forums, and none of them work on Apple's "Protected" music. I did have success with Sound Studio 2.2.1 about two years ago. But I had to replace it with version 3, and it just doesn't seem to work. It won't open iTunes music unless it's first transferred to a CD. And then I haven't been able to load the edited songs back into the iTunes Library. iTunes either fails to find the edited music or it substitutes the original unedited version.
Within the Sound Studio application, the music sounds beautiful after applying the Normalize and Compression filters. But I cannot get iTunes to accept those versions even after saving them under different names.
To date, I have spent considerable dollars and hours trying to fix about two dozen 99-cent songs, without success. I don't want an iTunes refund on my 99-cent songs; I just want to be able to listen to them in my car.
I suppose copyright concerns may be at the root of this problem, but who else except a buyer is going to fix these old songs to make them worth even 99 cents?
I'm a big fan of iTunes. It has made it possible to restore a music collection that previously wasn't available to me, and most of it sounds great. But I wish I could find a way to fix that handful of old favorites. Does anyone have a solution to this?

I'm happy to report that Sound Studio has corrected its part of the problem, and an updated version is available on its web site: freeverse.com/soundstudio/
I also discovered that attempts to adjust individual song volumes in the Get Info menu won't work if the Sound Check option is selected in Preferences (duh!).
Further good news is Apple's announcement of an arrangement to offer unprotected versions of BMI music in the iTunes store for an extra 30 cents per song. It would be well worth it, in my opinion, if all the music companies agreed to the arrangement, thereby streamlining the task of transferring problem songs to editing programs like Sound Studio.
One minor glitch remains. To differentiate between original and edited versions of a song, I usually append a number to the name. But when I import the edited version back into the iTunes library, iTunes automatically changes the name back to the original. I can tell the difference by referring to other clues in the library file, but not in the abbreviated iPod menu. I could delete the unedited version from the library or, better, create playlistys consisting of only the edited versions.

Remote Speakers No Longer Visible with iTunes 6.0.3

I haven't tried to connect my Airport Express stations since moving to a new location last September. All was working fine then (Windows XP, Belkin Pre-N Wireless Router, pre-iTunes 6.0, older AX firmware). I decided to connect my AXs today after updating to iTunes 6.0.3. No luck - installed 4.2 version of Airport Express Software, 6.3 version of AX firmware on both units, hard resets, factory resets, reconnect with network cabling first (this used to work when I had problems in the past, but not now), uninstall and reinstall of all software, and every other idea I could find on these forums. Neither the Admin Utility or the Setup Assistant will detect the AXs(though I can choose Other to manually connect to them with the Admin Utility). I have no WEP enabled, Windows Firewall is turned off, I've disabled my anti-virus and anti-spyware software, but nothing I have tried has worked.
Does anyone here have any ideas that I might not have tried? Are others having this problem? Is it an iTunes 6.x issue or an AX firmware issue? Is there a place one can go to downgrade their iTunes or AX software?
This is pretty frustrating since I was a very early adopter of this technology when it first came out and I had to put up with sketchy reliability for the first 4 months of ownership, but after that, it had worked like a charm until now...

my suggestion and one that i have heard works is that if you no longer use a pda, then go through your calender history and archive or delete the items that may have been entered by a pda...
i have heard that deleting all records entered by a pda works, myself tho, my ipaq is my pda not my ipod... so i would rather let my ipaq manage my calender and contacts rather than my music/video player...
or you can get a third party app, here is a freeware one that works if you can figure out german on the installer, i had a friend talk me though it... i gave them a beer for their efforts

When I started Itunes with the shift key down I was prompted to choose a library but since I copied over the media folder and not the library folder I was unable to select that so I guess I will have to create a new library and add in all the music, videos, etc. unless I wait for my laptop and export the library or at least that seems to be the case? In short, all my data (iTunes media folder) is on my external drive and can be added to the blank iTunes screen but I can not choose a library folder. Is there anyway around completely making all those playlists again? I am not sure my laptop will survive the shop with data intact and really hate to start over on those.
In an unrelated question - I collect old TV shows from the 1950's. Can I make playlists within the home video folder somehow? I have moved my Itunes media folder to an external drive and Itunes does not find the items in the folder

Running Win7. I moved my entire Itunes library to an external drive to free up space on my laptop. Itunes recognized the change and all was well. That worked fine and I have synced several times from the laptop with the library on the external drive. Now the laptop is in the shop (sigh, not Itunes related a dead network card). I connected the external drive to my desktop, made sure my software was up to date. opened ITunes went to edit/preferences/advanced. Went to change Itunes media folder location and navigated to the proper folder on my external drive and clicked OK. None of the music, videos, etc, that are in that folder show up in iTunes on the desktop. Restarted ITunes, no help, reboot computer, no help. Have I done something wrong or left out a step. I could copy all the media onto the desktop individually and build new playlists but that seems like something that should not be needed? One of the reasons I moved my Itunes media folder to the external drive was so I could use the laptop for iTunes while travel and the desktop for iTunes while at home. Do I have to copy the entire folder to my desktop and take up space there? That would be counterproductive to using the external drive. I searched and saw a hint to hold down shift while starting ITunes but that did not change anything. Any help would be most appreciated!

HT1203 I moved my Itunes media folder to my public folder in my home folder so that my wife can share my music when she logs on to my computer. Since then aperture has been unable to locate the music files and I cannot add any of my itunes files to a slid

Since doing this Aperture cannot locate any itunes music files and so I cannot add any music to a slideshow. All of my existing slideshows no longer play music. Can anyone help?

Once I have moved my iTunes media file to my new mac, will I have to erase and sync my iPod?

I have successfully managed to move my itunes media file from my windows pc to my new mac and all is well. However, of course it hasnt copied my itunes, its just copied all the stuff in it. So information about the number of times a song has been played or any playlists have not been copied over. Can i get this information? What will happen when I plug in my iPod to sync? Will I have to erase and sync?

Why the huge price rise for films in UK iTunes store?

I have recently noticed an inexplicably huge rise in some film prices on the UK iTunes store.
The films I mean are mainly old British ones (1940s-1950) which were all previously £2.99. Admittedly this was cheap but still in line with other retailers. Now, all of these have gone up to £7.99 - more than double the price! I'm glad I purchased all the Terry Thomas films when I did as these are among the affected items, which also include films starring Norman Wisdom, Will Hay and others of that ilk.
This goes far beyond the VAT issue which has previously been discussed. It seems Apple are just being brazenly greedy now with price rises left and right. Has anyone from the US or other countries noticed this happening in their stores too?

HT1657 I am unable to watch tv or rental movies from itunes on my Sony laptop (2007--windows 7)

Granted my Sony laptop VGN-FE770G is 6 years old it no longer plays movies or tv shows thru iTunes
Have tried the troubleshooting tips, i.e., new user account, safe mode, etc and nothing works.
I'd like to get a really good refurbished MAC as I have had so much fun with the iPad, iPhone and iPod....even the old iPaq before it went kaput.
any thoughts on which model? 13 inches is a good size, editing movies?

Open your QuickTime control panel (either via the Control panels, or by going "Edit > Preferences > QuickTime Preferences" in the Quicktime Player). In the Advanced tab, uncheck Enable Direct3D video acceleration:
... and click OK.
Quit the QuickTime Player if you have it open. Restart the PC and try watching the videos in iTunes again. Do they play now?

IPAQ 211 ENTERPRISE HANDHELD WILL NOT SYNC ON WINDOWS 7

I'm migrating from Windows XP to a new computer with Windows 7 64 byte, installtion disk will not work and my research tells me to use WMDC. I coneect the device via a USB cable and WMDC does not reconize connection. I downloaded WMDC 6.1 drive from website still not connection. reboated system disconnect device several time and no reconnitions on WMDC. The device has Windows Mobil 6 Classic CE OS 5.2.1711, Processor : MARVELL PXA310. I installed Office 2003 which I had on old system and worked fine with actve sync. Any help on how to get my Ipaq to sync with Outlook would be greatly appreciated.

I saw it in the forum yesterday! I had to dig to find it... but then I come here today and I see so many people having the same issue... so I made a thread that has the solution as the first post and replied to some other peoples' threads.
I don't really know why iTunes 10.5 has this problem, but this fix seems to always do the trick!
Hopefully Apple can find the root of the problem so people don't have to do this in a future iTunes release. It must have something to do with the push notification system they added to iTunes. (In iTunes 10.5, your computer connects to Apple's Push Notification System so that it can know when your iPhone is on the Wi-Fi network and also to advertise when the computer itself is on the network. It also receives requests to sync via Wi-Fi this way as well...)

Organizing movies in Itunes?

I have a large collection of various old TV shows from the 1950's and 1960's that I would like to use on my Ipod Gen5 / Ipad. Is there a way in I-Tunes in the Movies section to make folders or play lists. For example, I would want to put my Dragnet episodes in one, My Ozzie and Harriet in another, etc. Then when I synced my device I could add an entire playlist or look in the folder and choose the ones I wanted to watch at that time. As it is I have over 600 things in my Itunes movie library and it is tedious and awkward to search through all of them. Most are named by the date they aired instead of the show name so that further complicates things. On the drive I have them stored in I have them organized in folders and would like to have them organized within my Itunes library as well. Thanks for any advice you can offer!

ok so if i have like 30 episodes of the office, instead of having to scroll all the way down to find them can i have a folder that says office then when i click on that it will show all the episodes.... like when you click on an artist then it shows all of there songs. is this possible for movies?
