ITunes/iPod problem. help me plz

Is it possible to copy music files from my iPod Nano to iTunes? I lost all my music files from the computer and I have them on my iPod. I need to get them into the computer.
Thanks

If your iPod is set to update automatically you need to take care connecting to an empty iTunes. You can use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows with iTunes 7 installed hold down the Control and Alt keys (or Shift + Ctrl keys in older versions). This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer: iTunes 7 Keyboard Shortcuts for Windows
Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTMS purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows. The procedure is a bit involved and was written long before iTunes 7 so it requires a little adaptation, also it won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. This is just a selection, you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, they are generally quite straightforward. You can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
YamiPod Mac and Windows Versions
iGadget Windows Only
iPod Access Mac and Windows Versions
Music Rescue Mac & Windows
iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
TuneJack Windows Only
iPod2PC Windows Only
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up in case you have problems again. Relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

i have a 80gb classic and it just stopped working all of a sudden. When i turn it on all it does is go to the apple logo and turn off. When i try to connect it to my computer it doesnt reconize it. what should i do.

    Hello OZ1989,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
With the iPod hooked up, I would try putting the iPod into [Disk Mode|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1363] to help the iPod stay powered on and mounted in Windows "My Computer" as an external drive. If you are able to get it to stay mounted, I would attempt to reformat the iPod using the tools provided by Windows, and then [Restoring|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1339] the iPod via iTunes.
Here are instructions on how to reformat your iPod.

  • Help with itunes/ ipod problem

My computer crashed windows xp, I had to download the new version of itunes, now my ipod still has all the song that I loaded in.I want to reload the songs to itunes without loosing all my songs. The last time I did this my itunes was empty and it erased all my songs from my ipod,Is there a way that I can get ipod the reload the somgs without itunes erasing everything? Almost like a palm, download ipod to itunes. Thanks
      Windows XP

Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
However it appears that no playlists or any other info such as ratings/last played etc will transfer.
If this is important to you, you may want to use other options.
There's Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music and playlists etc from iPod to iTunes.

  • Computer reinstalled - itunes ipod reinstall help???

Hi everyone, first post here and I'm after help, not the best of starts eh. Anyway I'm Steven from Manchester in the UK and have got a 5th Gen iPod, which is also my first ever iPod
Anyway, onto my problem. I had a major problem with my PC on Sunday and finally got it sorted on Tuesday. I lost my 1st HDD so lost iTunes and my iPod installation as well as all my files. Luckily for me though I had backed up my music and videos on my 2nd HDD, but sadly I hadnt backed up the library.
Just wondering if there is a way of reinstalling iTunes so that it'll recgonise my songs and videos and not wipe them first, or will I have to just create all playlists etc again?
2nd question is, that I've now misplaced my iPod CD so am unsure of how to install it. Can I download the install software again? If so then where from?
Thanks in advance if anyone can help me out in anyway

I'm not sure what you mean by "Just wondering if there is a way of reinstalling iTunes so that it'll recgonise my songs and videos and not wipe them first, or will I have to just create all playlists etc again?"
I'm assuming you are referring to your iPod being wiped on connection to your new iTunes. Have a look here for preventing your iPod being updated: "How to keep iTunes from automatically updating your iPod" http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93779
You don't need to install your iPod but for future use, you'll get the iPod Updater software here: http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/ipodupdater20060110.html

  • Iphone and Ipod problem help me!!

I just bought a iPhone and I want to give my iPod to my boyfriend but I only have one computer there for I only have one way to get to my iTunes,me and my boyfriend have different tastes in music and he doesn't want my music and vise-versa I've tired to change our apple IDs but I cant seem to figure it out :-( Please someone help me I want to try and not go to the apple store
    Thank you!!

The iPhone and the iPod sync characteristics are configured separately.  The iTunes application keeps track by S/N.  Apple ID doesn't matter.  (I currently have two IDs and the only problem is very minor - log out/in to update apps obtained with the "wrong" ID.)

  • TIRED OF IPOD PROBLEMS - HELP

Ok, im sick of having problems with my half a grand f-ing music machine...
I took me days to figure out how to rip dvds with handbrake and its still very very inconsistant, works whenever it wants, now when i copy those mp4 files to iTunes, they work whenever the **** they want and now i get error messages constantly when copying movies/updating my ipod.
"Attemping to copy to disk "Zacks iPod" failed. Disk could not be read from or written to."
What the crap is this about, and i noticed that it sais DISK now instead of IPOD, I have tried to turn the disk enable on and off with no change, can anybody help before i throw this thing in bottomless pit of useless techlogical junk.
    Mac fan for now, Zack

I understand your frustration. I hope that you can solve yours as easily as I have solved mine. Basically all by looking on this forum for help.
I received my 60 gb yesterday and while updating it today, the do not disconnect would not go away, i reset the ipod, and that fixed that. So then my itunes would not recognize my ipod, so I turned everything off and unhooked the ipod and reset again, then let the computer boot back up, then hooked the Ipod up and all is well. I think the problem was my computer and not the Ipod. We will see.
My point is (after rambling on) take it easy, get up and walk away for a moment if you have to. Try to do what they suggest on here, and if all that fails, give ol Apple a call, I am sure they will be more than happy to help you out! =P

  • Itunes ipod Nano Help!!!

I have an ipod nano 1gb. On itunes i upgraded to the newer one. now i could only add less than 27 song. The capacity is now 896 MB. I use to can add more than 90 songs on my 1gb ipod nano. anybody know how this can be fixed?
    Thanks

first question is is there a setting i can choose
(either in iTunes or the iPod nano itself) to make
the on-screen iPod nano text appear larger than the
    default?
    No.
    however, most
of my songs require a program called NJStar
Communicator (www.njstar.com) to display the chinese
    characters -
I think NJStar uses an encoding which is not compatible with iTunes or iPod. You need to convert the ID3 tags of the songs that require NJStar to display correctly to Unicode. I have heard that ConvertZ is a program that might help do this.

  • ITunes & iPod problems - iTunes not recognising iPod

Like everyone I've been having trouble with the speed of itunes on windows. I now have a new problem.
When I connect my Nano, iTunes fails to load as it should and whenever I connect it, Windows opens E:\, almost as if iTunes doesn't exist.
When I do open iTunes and then connect iPod all is well except when I sync my iPod - windows opens up E:\ again - my nano!!!
    Anyone have any suggestions.
Waiting on my new 5G iPod to be delivered in the next few days - feel like returning it because of all these problems and the sound of silence (or is it ignorance?) from Apple!
No doubt my post will vanish soon enough because of my negative feedback...

the best fix with this one is to remap the drives ...
(if you're doing that, be cautious about remapping high-letter drives on which you've got programs installed ... the registry can get desperately confused if a program is on a different drive than it expects it to be. but if you've only got programs installed on your C drive, you should be fine.)
on the other hand, i can't recall having any "repeat customers" coming back with a recurrence of this after trying the "shift the ipod drive letter" technique. so, fingers crossed, you should be fine even if you only adjusted the ipod drive letter.
glad you're up and running again.

  • ITunes/iPod problem

okay.. i have an iPod mini 4GB and whenever i normally plugged it into my USB port, a little box would come up and say what i would like to do. i'd normally just hit cancel but the last time i used it i decided to check the box to never bring up this option again.
now tonight i tried to update my iPod and this box wont come up and i'm beginning to think i needed that little box, regardless or not of whether i need it because my iPod wont connect with my iTunes and update.
also, since it is not connecting/working, my iPod says "Do Not Disconnect" and i'm scared that if i do, i'll lose all my songs.
    anyone know how to help??

    See if these help.
USB drivers are not installed properly.
iTunes 7 doesn't recognize the iPod.

  • Itunes/ Ipod Problem - serious

    Hey,
I have an 80gb Ipod Video and have recently had problems with it. I use it frequently and have rarely had problems with it - other than the odd time where it freezes when I can manually (menu + select) restart it. Recently it froze and I manually reset it but when I turned it back on all my songs were gone. I decided to reconnect it to my computer and restore the iPod and put back on all my songs. However, when I did that error msgs would come up saying Cannot write to H: (or any other usb port I would plug my iPod into. It would write less than 50 songs and that msg would come up. Then I reinstalled itunes and even system restored my computer to an earlier date to make sure it wasn't a software problem and it still came up with an error - a different one this time saying "can't write to iPod" Sorry I don't have the specific error messages but I am getting to why that is. Now when I plug my iPod into my computer - it won't appear in iTunes but it does appear under My Computer. Is my iPod broken or what solutions do you have? Thanks so much.
    James

I have a 30gb iPod video and pretty much the exact same thing happened to me, but my computer said it can't find the file 1028_1.ithmb, does anyone know what that means or where you find it?

  • Itunes movie problems help!

I bought a movie off of iTunes. I try to put it on (i manually move everything onto my iPod) and an error message comes up. It says, "(title) was not copied to the iPod (my iPod) because it cannot be played on this iPod."
umm... I thought that my iPod could play video. I checked the file properties and it is an .m4v file. I have enough room on my ipod for this movie and i already have concerts and music video on my ipod as well, so what's wrong with this?
    thanks
    Message was edited by: silly_walks507

there could be a reading error on the ipod. certain ipods cant play some movies because the same thing happened to me and i took to the apple store and they rewrote the reader so the movies can play. I suggest you do the same.
