ITunes/iPod Shutting down my computer

I am new to the iPod and am having a really hard time with it!
I plugged it into my USB and then plugged in the iPod itseld. No problem, then about 5 minutes into it it sends this error and it shuts down!! Then I have to restart the thing and it will either do it again or not. Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Have you tried:
- Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP
- Disabling the computer's security software?

I have a PC.  I would like to sync my iPad2 via itunes.  My computer recognizes my ipad but itunes does not.  I have uninstalled itunes, shut down the computer and restarted plus reinstalled itunes.  I visited the Apple store there is no problem with the iPad or the cord. I still have the same problem and am unable to sync when I plug in the iPad via the USB cord.  Does anyone have further suggestions?

Try going into the control panel, add/remove programs. Uninstall iTUnes, Apple mobile device service, apple application support. Then redownload and reinstall iTunes and see if it'll work
If the computer sees your iPad you know the cable and connection is good, so the issue has to be software.

    I Restore iPods Classic's
All components are correct inside, correct numbers,
I plug it into the power source,
the Apple logo appears, then it goes
to the use iTunes to Restore.
    COnnect it to the computer,
and the iPod icon doesn't show on the
iTunes page, and the iPod shuts down,
after twenty seconds, reboot it, same thing.
this is a first, any ideas?

    Hello tsnovak!
Is English your first language? If not, I can help get someone who can speak your language to translate this article.
Tsnovak, you seem to be on a Apple Logo Loop. This has happened with several iPod generations. Contact Apple Support here: <https://www.apple.com/support/contact/>

  • Each time i try syncing my ipod with itunes, it freezes itunes and i end up having to shut down my computer.  This happened after the latest download, any suggestions?

each time i try syncing my ipod with itunes, it freezes itunes and i end up having to shut down my computer.  This started happening after the latest download and my latest purchase.  The latest purchase doesn't show up on my iPod and itunes freezes at synching step 2 on 2.  Any suggestions?

You should Reset your iPod, by
    1. Press Menu and Center button simultaneously for about 10 Secs till the Apple Logo comes ON.
    2. Disconnect the sync cable.
    3. Check the iPod Welcome screen, select language, go to menu (if you are lucky, your music are still on the iPod.)
if your iPod doesn't show the Welcome screen, bring it to Apple Store.
If the above is okay, (can see Menu but no Music)
    4. Close iTunes and Reboot your PC.
    5. Start iTunes
    6. Connect the iPod to the Sync cable.
    7. if iTunes ask to Restore, please do so.
    8. Sync your iPod. ( I would advise you to disconnect from Internet and stop the Antivirus program when doing this.)
    Good Luck.

  • IPod shuts down when connected to iTunes

My fully charged iPod shuts down within 1 minute of connecting to iTunes. iTunes recognizes/reads the iPod until the iPod shuts down. I considered the battery but the iPod will play about 6 hours on a charge. This happened with the old iTunes software and also after I installed the new 7.0.2 yesterday.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Is the software on the iPod up to date too?
Have you tried connecting via a different USB port?
Also, try resetting the iPod while it is connected to the computer...

  • Itunes randomly shuts down while updating ipod

After i plug in my Video Ipod to my computer, Itunes recognizes it and begins to Update. After around 20-30 seconds of "updating" A window pops up saying..
" iTunes has encoutered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconcenience.
If you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on might be lost"...and so on
At first i thought there was a problem with iTunes, so i tried updating my Nano..and THAT WORKED!
So then once again i kept trying to update my Video ipod..but the same problem kept happening ( iTunes would shut down )..I thought if i restored my Video Ipod then it would work. However when i restored it and tried to Update it, iTunes would shut down again while its updating.
now, all the songs on my video ipod are deleted and i can not get the songs back on it.

I ended up just redownloading iTunes 6 and it works now. No word on how to actually solve my problem via iTunes 7.

  • Itunes is shutting down on my computer

For the past few weeks, since I got my ipod touch, whenever I add 2 or 3 songs, or try to edit songs in itunes, it shuts down with the message "itunes has encountered a problem and needs to close." How can I fix this. I ran a diagnostic test, and it came back good. When I had my nano, this never happened. Please point me in the right direction.

    Can anyone help?

  • My iTunes keeps shutting down after i plug in my iPod

My iTunes keeps shutting down after i plug in my iPod. First it just wouldn't open but now it finds my iPod and then shuts down, it closes it's self. can anyone help?

The five R's don't work because I don't have enough time to restore iPod before it shutsdown, and reinstalling iTunes didn't solve it either.

  • Ipod shuts down PC.

I recently just got my old ipod replaced due to the fact that it was having battery holding problems, and i just got my second ipod, but whenever i try to plug it into my pc, my ipod freezes up and shuts down my PC. I've looked at every support suggestions to fixing it, i've tried to restore it, but i can't because the ipod just shuts down my computer. I've tried restoring it on other people's pc's too but it still does not work. Is there any hope for my second ipod?

"If the PC reboots when you connect an iPod, the problem is always with the PC, not with the iPod."
That is total, complete, and utter crap. How much experience have you even HAD in the tech support industry, if any?
The iPod is the single worst designed and manufactured piece of horse-pucky that ever came off their line. I got my original (as a gift, fortunately) iPod at Christmas 2003.
I'm now on my third one. After a hard drive failure, a hard drive CONTROLLER failure, and now a battery that lasts about 10 minutes, I'm done with Apple completely. Once this thing dies its final death, I'm getting something worth spending money on.
This is the kind of 'quality' item that you say could NEVER cause the PC to reboot? How about the horrifically bad failure rate on the iPod's 'file system'? How about the fact that if you can manage to update this 'external hard drive' that only 'uses standard Windows drivers' it causes no end of problems?!?
The iPod worked when I connected it to my PC with Itunes 5.1.x. After a month and a half of frustration so bad I wanted to stop the thing into little bitty pieces and dance around them chanting some sort of anti-evil voodoo mantra.
I couldn't see any tracks on the Itunes Music Store, so I thought I'd check for updates. Sure enough, I'm supposed to go to iTunes 6. So, like the dutiful little tech-monkey I am, I update it.
    Or try to.
I get the ubiquitous "Error 1607" and end up removing the software completely (as well as QuickTime), reinstalling it (with the same error), installing the stand-alone version of QuickTime (how's that for customer service? Two badly-written programs for the price of one!), then REINSTALLING iTunes. And now it finally starts.
Which is, of course, when I'm told that my iPod software is now mysteriously out-of-date and I have to update it as well before I can transfer music over.
    Fine.
So I do that. I update it like the good rules-abiding person that I am. I reboot my computer, and remove the iPod to go to work. I come home, I plug it back in and go to buy some more music, when lo and behold, the computer crashes.
    Twice.
NO DRIVERS HAVE BEEN CHANGED ON THE COMPUTER. NO SOFTWARE WAS ALTERED IN ANY WAY OTHER THAN THE ITUNES / QUICKTIME SOFTWARE.
Still think it's a PC issue? Well, maybe so.
iTunes / QuickTime might need to be rewritten. Again. And then patched. Again. And Again.
Can't reboot the PC? snort Go back to your "PC's for Dummies" book, moron.

  • The new firefox twitter app is great - except it disappears every time I shut down the computer and I have to remove and then reinstall it every day!?? I am working on an iMac - if that is causing the problem ...? Thanks.

The new firefox twitter app (mini tab on left of page) is great - except it disappears every time I shut down the computer and I have to remove and then reinstall it every day!?? It won't appear on the page until I do. I am working on an iMac - if that is causing the problem ...? Thanks.

Eustace, thank you so much for writing back.  I will try what you suggested!!
thx for your reply - apparently when I went to the Apple store a long time ago, they restore maybe photos and itunes etc from my external hard drive (passport).  I guess at that time they reinstalled an earlier operating system than my macbook came with and that somehow corrupted FileVault.  apparently there was no sparse bundle (whatever that is) for my old admin account and they said that ever since the install of the older OS that it was actually NEVER backing up anything in my admin account.
Then, I bought Time Capsule and starting backing up to that instead.  I started having problems with it being slow etc and then StartUp Disk full errors and didn't know what to do, so I "Restored" from Time Capsule and that's when I lost everything in my Admin account and was locked out when I tried to log in - it said File Vault error ..."
anyway - that's THAT sad story.  I was told to create a new admin account and I've basically been trying to start over - even though I have a partial save of my computer in Crash Plan and I DO see a sparse bundle listed in there, but I just don't know enough about computers to know if it's something I can get back or if I am just totally doomed.
I'm afraid to reinstall anything because if there is even a remote shot that the other files are still floating around in my computer, I feel like that chance will be shot forever.  I need to hire McGee from NCIS, I just KNOW he could get those files back for me!!!

  • I pod shuts down the computer

    Packard Bell   Windows XP
I plugged in the 60 gig Ipod and it shut down my computer, as in turned the system off... This isn't what I call a benign device.. Nothing plugged into a computer should do that.. Nothing I've ever plugged in did that.. Everything was always benign, until now.. This isn't right..
I should plug in a device and it should work, plug and play... That's all there is to it..
I've been reading all the problems people are having. Unrecognized devices, people struggling trying to figure things out.. Why should people be going to all this trouble..? The thing should work as any plug and play device does...
After I restart my system, the Ipod is sitting there saying "do not disconnect". After many hours more of the same.. The thing is dead as far as I'm concerned and I don't have the patience to revive it.. I'm not interested in "5 Rs"..Not interested in drive letters, not interested in resetting this and that... it doesn't work is what I'm interested in and I expect to be made good on this..
The days of manual installation of devices is long gone..Only techies ever tinker with stuff like that. If I had the time to do surgery on my system to make it work, I expect to be paid.. But that isn't my line of work anyhow.
The device is garbage that certainly isn't ready for market.

  • When I try to use iMessage on my iPod touch 4 (ios6) the iPod shuts down and restarts

Every time I try to open my iMessage my iPod shuts down. I have a 4th gen iPod with ios6. I will attempt to open the app and it will either shut down and restart as soon as the white screen comes up or I will see my previous messages and try to open a thread then it will restart. I have tried restarting the phone as well as turning iMessage on as off. Has anybody else had this problem? What can I do?

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
-Note this will delete messages currently on the iPod:
Go to settings>Messages>Send and Receive and sign out of Messages and sign back in.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • IPod shuts down due to "low battery" even when fully recharged

    OK..
I got big problems with my iPod battery.
I've already sent my iPod to Apple once, but they returned it saying nothing is wrong and giving "helpful" tips about turning the backlight off in order to make the battery last longer..
Well, I sorta disagree about there not being any problem. And I did feel a bit insulted about the claim that my iPod is not malfunctioning as well as the hints about me being a retard who needs to be told that using the backlight continuously might have an affect on battery life.
(but in case my retardedness is to blame for all my problems with my iPod, please let me know. )
During he last 2 months or so, the iPod keeps shutting down due to "low battery" even though it's been connected to the USB port for, like, 20 hours straight.
Tried different ports and computers without any luck.
The recharging-icon is usually moving while connected to the computer, but I don't get the "battery is fully loaded" message (or icon?) anymore.
Sometimes when the iPod has shut itself down due to low battery, it can still be used for ~10 hours by turning it on/resetting multiple times. When that happens, the battery icon is at first "empty", but then bar suddenly goes to half full.
I also suspect that resetting it 7 times before plugging it into a USB-port helps. Occasionally.
No way to tell if there's 15 hours or 15 seconds life left in he battery. I just got got home from a 2 x 8,5 hour flight and the iPod shut down right after the first take-off So.. yeah.. I'm ****** off atm.:/
I've tried all the tricks I've found on the net (resetting, software updates etc.) but nothing helps.
Don't know if it could have any relevance, but it seems like the problem appears more often when playing audio books - long mp3 files, that is...
    Help, anyone? Pretty please?
    PC   Windows XP

I have the exact same problem. About 2 weeks before the end of my 1-year warranty, I contacted Apple about the problem. They sent a box with prepaid shipping (I paid for it) and I sent the iPOD back to Apple. Today, I checked the status of my repair and the screen reads:
    Step 1 - Request
    Product received (05-Apr-2006)
    Step 2 - Service
    No trouble found (11-Apr-2006)
    Step 3 - Return
    Original product shipped (11-Apr-2006)
I contacted Apple Customer Service and was told that they ran diagnostics and nothing was wrong with the unit. I asked them if it mattered that I noticed problems with the iPOD that they don't seem to see and they said no. They said the problem could be with my charger, but I told them that I recently lost my charger and had used several different chargers that work with other peoples iPODs just fine. I even left it to charge overnight and the next day I could barely play one song. The woman I spoke with told me that if I had any problems with the iPOD after it was returned to me, I would have to send it back (they would not provide the box) and pay $225 since it is no longer in warranty .
My problem is that the unit was in warranty when I sent it, they didn't fix it (they couldn't find this very obvious problem), and now it isn't in warranty. The only way I can listen to music is to plug it into an A/C outlet while it is playing. My other option is to buy another mp3 player.
Has anyone else had this problem? Have you found a solution? Thanks!

  • IPod shuts down on specific songs

Just finished sync'ing my 5G 80GB with iTunes 7.0.1.8. Everything seems to work until I attempted to play this one specific song. As soon as it attempts to play the song, the iPod shuts down, I get the apple logo and the unit resets itself. All other songs play fine, except I found there are a number of other songs that cause the iPod to perform this reset as well. These songs all played fine on my 4G unit. What gives?? TIA!
    5G 80GB   Windows XP Pro

i had the exact same problem.. heres my story
i had a 30 gig ipod video.. all songs worked and
played fine. then i updated..and i had no
    problems..they still worked..and then i bought a 80
gig ipod video. and all of a sudden some songs would
cause my ipod to reset. it was weird cuz i know they
play because i used to listen to them all the time on
    my old 30 gig.
what i did was convert the songs that werent working
in the itunes "advanced- convert selection to aac"
and then they started to work..
First, thanks for the info! That did resolve the problem. But I'm still curious as to why this is happening. The challenge now is trying to identify the common denominator amongst the songs that are the culprit. Seems like they are all low quality, perhaps even MONO. Still my 4G 30GB used to play them just fine. Oh well, until then we have a good workaround. Thanks again!

  • Why did my ipod shut down when it was fuly charged.
