Itunes/ipod updating HELP!

whenever i plug my ipod into the computer it updates my ipod, however once that update is done if i change a setting and hit sync or apply nothing happens..itunes say it is updating but my ipod doesn't respond and it says that it is updating for a good minute or so then i get an error message. the error message says that the ipod cannot be synced, the required disk cannot be found.
how can i get this to work so that i can update my ipod?
also..if you uninstall your itunes then reinstall it will you lose all of your songs? if you can help me PLEASE do..i can't get anything to work.

Why can't you set it to manually update?
Connect your iPod to the computer. When it appears in iTunes go to edit-->preferences. Click the iPod tab. Set it to manually manage music. Click OK.
Why doesn't that work?

  • Multiple iTunes/iPod Updater Entries in Add/Remove Programs

There are three entries for iTunes in the "Add or Remove Programs" window.
    iTunes 6.0.3.5
    iTunes 6.0.2.23
    iTunes 6.0.1.3
I never bothered uninstalling the previous version before upgrading (I fear it will mess up my music library if I take iTunes completely off). I always figured, like with most other programs, it would replace/delete the previous version on its own.
The same thing happens with the iPod Updater. I have two of those.
    iPod for Windows 2005-11-17 (4.17.0)
    iPod for Windows 2005-09-23 (4.3.0)
Should I uninstall them all (iTunes & iPod Updater) and reinstall only the latest versions (iTunes 6.0.4 & iPod Updater 2006-01-10)? I have like 30GB of music, and if anything were to happen...I'd seriously jump in front of a speeding car before reripping everything...ok no I wouldn't, but I'd be extremely ****** off.
Thanks in advance for any help! =D

  • Itunes wont update. help?

I have windows xp, a 5th generation ipod with itunes 7. when i plug the ipod into the computer it shows up in the itunes devices column i click on it and instead of loading the ipod controls thing it just says itunes store and trys to connect to the itunes store. I leave it alone for a while and it just stays that way. What can i do?.
2.)it's been doing that for a while but when i could get it to open up the ipod controls that regulary appear it would automatical sync the ipod but it will only sync the music. so i would go in a tell it to sync the videos and pictures from a diffrent file, I would then go to file, sync ipod. updating ipod do not disconnect would appear in the itunes bar uptop. It would wait a minute then it would tell me "error -50 (or error 50)could not update ipod. an unknown error as occurded." then a second error message would appear and tell me "disk could not be written to or read from." Help please. (don't mind spelling mistakes)

okay, we'd better try enlisting some additional technical help then.
we'll get a crash log from itunes, and send it to so someone who can interpret crash logs. (it may take a few days before you get a response.)
Typically, you'll need to configure Dr. Watson on your PC in order to generate crash logs. Windows start menu -> Run. Type in "cmd". Hit return. At the prompt in the command line window that comes up, type in
    drwtsn32 -i
    And hit return.
This will create crash logs in Documents And Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Dr Watson\. There'll usually be a file in here called "drwtsn32.log"
prior to collecting the itunes crash log, delete any existing crash logs in there. (we want to make sure we send the correct crash log.)
generate the crash, collect the crash log, and send it to this email address
    in the email:
    (1) state the precise version number of itunes that you're using, the version number of your ipod updater, the software version on your ipod, and the model of ipod you're getting the crash with:
iPod: How to find software version
    Identifying different iPod models
    (2) include the URL to this thread so that the person who gets the email has some context, but also give as much information about the context of the crashing as you can.

  • Problem with new iTunes & iPod update

Ever since installing the new iTunes update I've been having problems updating my iPod.
At first when I ran the new version of iTunes a message popped up telling me that I needed to update the software on my iPod. Upon trying to do that, another window popped up saying that 'iPod couldn't be mounted'.
So now my computer can't detect my iPod. I've restored my ipod which didn't help. I would reset my ipod but I can't even do that since when I run the ipod updater program it doesn't detect it. I've tried numerous times to see unplugging/plugging my ipod with the firewire and noticed the ipod hdd was whirring like crazy (and still no detection).
Since the last time I attempted doing that I've noticed that some of my mp3 files on my ipod have become corrupt and would stop halfway through play and just skip to the next song.
Any idea whats going on and how I could fix this??

    iPod won't turn on.
iPod doesn't appear in iTunes or on the Mac desktop.
iPod does not appear in iPod Updater or iTunes in Mac OS X.
iPod appears on the Mac OS X desktop but not in iTunes.
Try to restore it in disk mode.

  • Computer reinstalled - itunes ipod reinstall help???

Hi everyone, first post here and I'm after help, not the best of starts eh. Anyway I'm Steven from Manchester in the UK and have got a 5th Gen iPod, which is also my first ever iPod
Anyway, onto my problem. I had a major problem with my PC on Sunday and finally got it sorted on Tuesday. I lost my 1st HDD so lost iTunes and my iPod installation as well as all my files. Luckily for me though I had backed up my music and videos on my 2nd HDD, but sadly I hadnt backed up the library.
Just wondering if there is a way of reinstalling iTunes so that it'll recgonise my songs and videos and not wipe them first, or will I have to just create all playlists etc again?
2nd question is, that I've now misplaced my iPod CD so am unsure of how to install it. Can I download the install software again? If so then where from?
Thanks in advance if anyone can help me out in anyway

I'm not sure what you mean by "Just wondering if there is a way of reinstalling iTunes so that it'll recgonise my songs and videos and not wipe them first, or will I have to just create all playlists etc again?"
I'm assuming you are referring to your iPod being wiped on connection to your new iTunes. Have a look here for preventing your iPod being updated: "How to keep iTunes from automatically updating your iPod" http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93779
You don't need to install your iPod but for future use, you'll get the iPod Updater software here: http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/ipodupdater20060110.html

  • IPod/iTunes/iPod Updater Won't Recognize Connection

I recently got my iPod serviced for this very issue. Neither iTunes nor my iPod nor iPod updater will recognize when I connect the iPod to either my PC or my laptop. I have noticed this problem isn't listed on the site or anything. I could really use some help here, since I can't do anything with it.

Yeah, whatever, buddy. I'm not gonna shell out cash for a peripheral I probably don't even need. Have you even noticed how many people have the same problem? It's obviously a firmware bug, not a hardware issue regarding my PCs. I don't mean to sound as rude as you sounded, but there's gotta be a better way to solve all this.

  • Itunes/Ipod updater can't find my Ipod, but windows can?

I have a problem that I have tried many different ways to solve. When I plug in my Ipod, it is found in "my computer" and with my windows media player, but not Itunes or Ipod updater. When I reset it with Ipod updater opened, the updater freezes. I have tried re installing my itunes and ipod updater. One time my ipod froze when it was doing something with the install, but it works fine when not plugged into my computer so I have no real idea. Can soembody please help me out?

Startup iTunes while holding down the option key. When the dialog box pops up, click "Change Library" and navigate to the library on your MBP.

  • Ipod freezes itunes; ipod updater - reformat didn't work!

My ipod started freezing itunes and the ipod updater. Eventually, after a minute or two, itunes would un-hang, but it wouldn't recognize the ipod at all! I tried everything, which eventually culminated in my manually reformating the darn thing with Windows Disk whatever. After that, the ipod updater worked enough so that I was able to restore the factory settings. I plugged it back in to intunes and....
it STILL froze itunes and the updater. If I unplug the thing during these freezing sessions, everything un-hangs instantly. I'm helpless! What do I do???

    See if this helps
    For Mac computer
    1. Open the disk utility, hope your iPod appears there (left hand side), highlight it
    2. Go to Tab “Partition”, click either “Delete” or “Partition”, if fails, skip this step and go to 3
    3. Go to Tab “Erase” , choose Volume Format as “MAC OS Extended (Journaled), and click Erase, again if fails, skip it and go to 4
    4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
    5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
    6. Open the iTunes 7 and click “Restore”

  • Can't download itunes/ipod updater

I already posted a couple of months ago, but got no response. I've been putting the problem off, but it is extremely annoying.
I'm running Windows XP. My internet settings are ALL set to default. I can't download iTunes or the iPod Updater. I get this error message: "Your current security settings do not allow this file to be downloaded." I've searched google, these discussion boards, and other discussion websites. I've posted on a couple of them as well, but kept getting the same response- set everything to default and make sure downloads are enabled. Been there, done that! That is NOT the solution, although it seems to have helped many others.
I browsed through the other topics on this thread, but they all seem to be different variations on the same problem. So I figured I'd be better off posting my own than trying to adapt to their problems.
    Any suggestions??

    hi Christina!
... you know, i don't have the foggiest idea about how to fix this one ...
but why not try just cutting the Gordian knot? do you have access to a PC with a CD burner that
    b can
    download the software?
if so, why not download and save to the hard drive the two installer packages (and a QT 7 standalone installer, while you're at it). burn them to a CD-R, carry them back to your PC and copy them across to your hard drive.

  • Downloaded new iTunes/iPod updater, iTunes now crashes during iPod updating

I downloaded the new iTunes and iPod updater yesterday-- now when I plug my iPod into the USB, it recognizes my iPod, the "Updating iPod. Do not disconnect." message comes up, but as soon as "Updating Track 1 of 9." appears, I get a Send Error Report message "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. etc" (I wasn't sure what, if anything, I shoudl include here from the Error Report Contents.) Has anyone else encountered this or have any tips? I've tried the uninstall/reinstall trick to no avail.
    Thanks!

I fixed this for my Nano by using the iPod Updater Restore to revert the firmware to version 1.0 and removing iTunes 6.0.2 through Control Panel. I didn't delete the leftover directories. I then reinstalled iTunes version 6.0.1.3.
The Nano is now happily recopying all my music. Should be done by midnight.
    Good luck.

  • Windows/ iTunes/ iPod Updater Don't See The Nano

Well, here's the story. I got a refurbished nano after my first broke. Plugged it in, didn't work. Went back 2 an Apple Store, they told me it was a software problem, the guy even had it working. I came back home, uninstalled iTunes, Quicktime, and the iPod updater, before downloading all of them again. Installed 'em all, opened the updater, plug in the iPod... nothing. I'm at the screen where it says "Plug in an iPod to update it," with my iPod sitting plugged in. It doesn't show up in My Computer, or in the system tray, or on iTunes, or in the updater.
BTW... its not my port, i've used several, including the ones for my keyboard/mouse/joystick, so the USB is fine. I'll plug it in and sometimes the apple logo will appear before the iPod restarts. Sometimes, a black-and-white battery logo appears on-screen, showing that its charging, but then that goes away too. So... any suggestions?

When I say the icon dissapears, I mean that it totally dissapears. The icon goes out, the screen goes blank, and theres nothing there at all. It'd be like a regular nano turned off. I'll give you exactly what happens. I plug in the nano to a USB port. The silver logo w/ black background appears, for about 2 seconds. Then, it goes strate to the battery w/ lightning bolt. Then, that dissapears. 1 second later, the same icon flashes, dissapears, then flashes again, before dissapearing for a third time. Then... nothing, no more icon flashes. Just a blank screen.
And yes, I have used every USB port on my computer, including the ones that go to my USB keyboard/mouse. So it isn't the ports.

  • I think I found out what the iTunes + iPod update problem is

    All,
I spent some more time trying to figure out what exactly this iPod update/iTunes problem is and I think I discovered something interesting.
I can manually sync my MP3's but not my AAC files. When I sync MP3's - iTunes and the iPod are fine. However, as soon as I attempt to sync even one Protected AAC file, iTunes bombs.
I'd be interested in seeing if others try this and get the same results. If this is the core problem, syncing protected or AAC files, then we may be able figure out the exact component that has botched everything up here.
    Chris

RE: manual sync - I mean manual copying through iTunes. That is - not selecting to update the songs automatically. I drag them from my library to the iPod within iTunes so I have control what goes there.
Bummer - I thought I was on to something. All I can say is that I can sync anything but the Protected AAC's. When I let it automatically sync my iPod, iTunes bombed. When I selected manual syncing and moved a playlist, it bombed after a few songs. I tried to look into why it would stop on certain songs, and noticed that it was bombing on the protected AAC's. So, I copied over 1000 MP3's including songs and podcasts, and they copied successfully. I selected one AAC and immediately it bombed.
Maybe our problems are not the same?
    Chris
