ITunes/iPod won't synchronize

On Dec 17, '06 I wrote that following an upgrade to OS X I lost my iTunes folder and could not recreate it from my iPod because (according to my computer) my iPod was "registered to another computer."
The response to my post advised me to use Senuti. I tried that, and I managed to download all my iPod songs to a new iTunes folder (without my playlists or ratings unfortunately, which were a BIG part of my iPod use) -- but at least I now had the tunes on my computer.
However, when I try to synchronize with this new folder nothing happens except for the flashing red "do not disconnect" message on my iPod and a "your iPod is up to date" message from iTunes. This continues so long as the two are connected.

I'm not entirely sure what your question is, but it looks like you haven't searched the forum for how to troubleshoot synching problems, so I'll try to point you in the right direction.
Next time you connect your iPod, let it finish updating. When you no longer see the "Do not disconnect" message:
1. The display at the top of your iTunes window should show "iPod update is complete."
2. DO NOT unplug your iPod.
3. Click once on your iPod from the device list on the left side of your iTunes window, so your iPod is selected.
4. On the right side of your iTunes window, click on each tab (Summary, Music, Movies, TV Shows, Podcasts, etc.) and make sure the settings for each tab are how you want them.
5. From the device list, click once on your iPod as you did in step 3 above.
6. Control-click (or right-click) on your iPod from the device list to pop up a contextual menu.
7. Choose "Sync" from the pop-up menu
8. If you have correctly configured the preferences for your iPod in Step 4 above, synching will begin.

  • Ipod won't sync with itunes, ipod won't sync with itunes

I can't sync my ipod with itunes since I got a new computer with Windows 8.  Any help would be appreciated.

You may need to set up the iPod's Music tab in iTunes, to tell iTunes how you want to sync it with songs.
First, with the latest iTunes, it may hide the sidebar.  To show the sidebar, from the menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.
Select the iPod in the iTunes sidebar, under DEVICES.  Over to the right, there is a row of "tabs" (starting with Summary).  Click on Music there.  This tab is where you set up music automatic syncing for the iPod.

  • ITunes / iPod won't see Calendar or Contacts files

I have a 60 gb video iPod which has worked wonderfully until the previous update of iTunes to 7.0.1. Sometime during my use of that version (perhaps at installation) iTunes stopped updating contacts and calendar files. Now in the settings panels of version 7.0.2 of iTunes it shows no calendar or contact files. I was able to check with another (80 gb video) iPod, whose settings did show my contact and calendar files as options for syncing.
Frequently when I click on the "Contacts" tab of the iPod settings the application will hang.
I have performed the various "R"s, to no avail. I have thrown out and recreated the iPod .plist preference files, but still to no avail.
Thoughts? I suspect some corrupt, invisible, setting file pointing to my specific iPod is on my iMac creating this havoc, but I wouldn't know where to look.
    Help?

    Hi Jennifer,
I never received any info on this. Have you found a fix for the problem?
    Thanks!

  • IPOD won't update from iTunes

Jeez, I thought that iTunes/iPOD would be pretty simple; move music from here to there. I have been using for over a year with no problem, but within the latest couple of upgrades to iTunes, my iPOD will no longer update correctly. I have spent over 6 hours trying to figure this crap out, and it still won't work. YEAH, I have the latest Updater/iPOD software installed, and the latest iTunes. Plug in my iPOD, and it says its updating, and I can see the new music on the iPOD from iTunes, but its NOT ON MY IPOD when I unplug and try and play. The other day I formatted the dang thing, and spent five hours moving music; next day added two additional songs to the library, and they will not move to the iPOD. Have tried moving manually, but they still will not play on the iPOD.
What kind of crap are you giving us??? If iTunes/iPOD won't do what its supposed to do (move music from here to there), then I don't want to mess around with it. If you can't move my music properly, why would I put my Contacts/Calendars on this device?
Support: Forget about it! Post a message in a Discussion Group and hope for the best. Forget about actually calling someone and asking for help, even though you paid top dollar for your 30gb iPOD. I'm starting to look for some fool to buy it and let them deal with it. Oh Yeah, by the way, the screen is scratched even though I bought a PROTECTIVE case for it.
Several people in our office were interested in purchasing an iPOD, iShuffle and I have convinced them to look elsewhere.

  • Very frustrating.... iPod won't connect to computer or iTunes

I've seen other topics here posting similar issues, but I thought I would start a new one anyway.
Every time I connect my iPod to the computer, the "connected" screen pops up on the iPod, but nothing shows up in Devices on iTunes. Sometimes my computer recognizes it, sometimes it doesn't.
Up until a few months ago, I didn't have a docking station, so I connected my iPod to my PC quite often. I never had an issue with it. Now that I have a docking station that charges it, I don't connect my iPod nearly as often. When I do, I have problems. I tried downloading the new iTunes.... that worked.... for one time. Now it won't recognize my iPod again. So I tried re-downloading it again, still, nothing. I've reset my iPod; opened iTunes then plugged it in; plugged it in then opened iTunes; restarted the computer; and stopped the iPod service then started it again. Nothing helps; it won't synchronize and connect with iTunes.
Is this an iTunes problem or an issue with my iPod? Please help! This is really annoying.

    Hi,
I've had this problem too, but the support articles don't help. I reinstalled 10.6 multiple times but it did nothing, then finally downgraded to 10.4.1, which worked. Now it's doing the same thing with 10.4.1. Every time I've had this problem, the device manager says Apple Mobile Device USB Driver isn't working. I've reset it multiple times. I don't really want to have to reinstall again, any ideas why AMD keeps failing?

  • Please Help - My iTunes library won't recognize my iPod classic

My iTunes library won't recognize my iPod classic 80gb. I try doing the trouble shooting steps on apple, but they still did not work. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'd love to add some newer music to my old iPod for listening in the car or when travelling. Thanks a lot.

    Hello dmbnewfie,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that your iPod classic is not being recognized in iTunes when you connect it to your computer. I know you have tried some troubleshooting on the Apple website as well, but without knowing which steps you have completed, I would suggest working through the attached iPod classic Troubleshooting Assistant.

  • IPod won't show up on itunes or mac, freezes, and doesn't play bought songs

Okay i have four issues with my iPod
    1. It won't show up on iTunes or on Mac desktop
    2. When i plug it into the USB port it freezes and say 'Do Not Disconnect'. It will not come out of this
    3. Every single song i have bought won't play on my iPod. They transfer fine, but when i click on a bought song it simply skips over it
    4. I authorized this computer but songs still need authorizing, and i have already authorized them
So we bought a new Mac and i plugged in my 30 GB video iPod for the first time. It showed up in iTunes then so i synced it to our new computer. Then i tried to listen to my bought songs and they simply wouldn't play. The iPod just skipped over them. I had one song out of three hundred or so that were bought actually play. Then i tried reauthorizing my new computer and getting rid of all the old computers that had been authorized. That didn't work, and the songs that actually needed to be authorized wouldn't be authorized even when i clicked on them.
So then i unplug and just listen to it as is for awhile but then i try plugging it in again and it just doesnt show up on my Mac desktop or iTunes. And the screen becomes frozen with the same message, 'Do Not Disconnect' I wait for a half an hour for it to show up and it never does. I have no choice to unplug it and then it is still frozen with that same message. Five hours pass, and it is still like that. It finally goes off and then it simply doesnt work. So i plug it in to my charger and its fine except the whole not playing bought songs business.
Please i beg if you have any answers to any of these problems HELP!!!!!

It looks like sync but nothing is happening. The sync doesn't stop by itself. Is there anybody to solve this problem? In previous versions never a problem.

I have exactly the same issues with my new 80G iPOD. I have found that when connecting to my PC, the iPOD does not start iTUNES 7. This can be resolved by stopping the iPOD Service in Computer Management, connecting the iPOD and then starting it again. Then when you start iTUNES it finds the iPOD. - http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93716
Seems like a stupid long-winded way to do things, but at least you can get some stuff on to your iPOD.
As far as using Restore goes - I just get the restoring iPOD message you described, which it blatantly isn't :((

  • My ipod won't sync any of the music i downloaded and says that iTunes can't backup the Ipod because a session couldn't be started with the Ipod how do i fix this

My ipod won't sync any thing in my iTunes library it always stop as soon as it starts backingup the Ipod a message appears that says iTunes cannot backup the Ipod "my Ipod" because a session couldn't be started withthe Ipod how do i fix this problem?
This is exactly what the message says: iTunes could not back up the iPod "austins ipod" because a session could not be started with the iPod.

Try connecting your ipod to another computer and sync only 1 file or song just for isolation purpose only to see if it'll sync.
If still not syncing, then porbably you may have a bad iOS installed in iPod which is hard to see if it has a problem because you said nothing's wrong with iPod. I just saying is, it MIGHT have a bad iOS.
If you are unable to do a restore, put your ipod in DFU mode, then connect to iTunes and iTunes will detect your ipod in restore mode. Press shift key (PC keyboard) then click the restore button on iTunes. I hope you have your copy of IPSW file for restoration purposes.
