ITunes is allowing duplicates to be added in library.
Since I updated from iTunes 8.X to 9, I realised that now my iTunes is now allowing duplicated to be created in the library.
With iTunes 8.x, I remember that sometimes I was double-clicking on a mp3 song from the finder(that's was already in my iTunes library and also in the iTunes folder). The result was that iTunes would only read the song and would not copy it a second time into the library. So avoiding the creation of a duplicate into my library.
Now with iTunes 9.0, every time I click a mp3 file from the finder, the file it's added to the library. Result : duplicates, duplicates, duplicates...
Any suggestion ?
There are two different scenarios I can think of.
The files you are adding are outside the iTunes media folder and you have the *Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library* option selected. In this case iTunes will see these as new files and make new copies.
Your iTunes Media folder is on an external drive which was disconnected when you started iTunes. In this case iTunes will treat all existing file paths as unknown and will create duplicate links to the same underlying files.

ITunes not displaying music, etc since adding new library
I have had my iPhone library on my laptop for some time, and could always see my list of songs in the Music folder on iTunes, list of moveis, apps, podcasts, etc. Well, we gave our son an iPod Touch for Christmas, and I created a new libary for him on the laptop, following the instructions on Apple's website, intending to hold the "Shift" key down when syncing either device to get the proper library.
However, as above, I can't even see my stuff anymore. The screen shows the folders on the left side, but the centre of the screen(where I would expect to see the list)just shows a kind of "introductory" message, for example: "Music. Songs and music videos you add to iTunes appear in Music in your iTunes library. To play a song, just double-click it." Then it gives a couple of options to either watch a tutorial on downloading music, shopping for music in the iTunes store, or watching a tutorial on importing a CD. As an experiment, I tried to add a new song, from the Music folder on my laptop. Afterwards the Music folder shows that one song. It still syncs, and when I check my phone, all of my songs are still there (I was worried they'd be gone).
I am tired of this two library business, it's a hassle and my son never really syncs his iPod anyhow. What I would like to do is get things back the way they were before (one library - mine). I have been googling this all morning and trying various things, to no avail.
If anyone could help me, I sure would appreciate it

My itunes looks nothing like the examples in this tutorial. I do not have "display exact duplicates" or "date added". Can someone please help me remove duplicate songs? Also, I downloaded two audio books and they are showing up in my song list. Why???
'Show duplicates' is now under the 'View' menu. To see the 'Date added' column go to 'View options' from the 'View' menu and check it in the section under 'Stats'.
Click an audiobook once to select it and hit command-i (Mac) or control-i (Windows). Go to the 'Options' tab and set 'Media Kind' to 'Audiobook'. -
ALLOWING duplicates in iPhoto?
This might be the reverse of what everyone wants, but I am importing A LOT of photos (Gigs and years worth) into iPhoto and can't sit next to the computer for hours waiting for that box to pop up asking if I want to allow duplicates every time a duplicate shows up. Does anyone know how to allow duplicate pictures in iPhoto as a default setting?
One method would be to use a file renaming application to batch rename the files, like adding "-a" to the end of the file names or give them entirely new file names. I use R-Name. Set the criteria to "Add Characters before Extension" and you'll get "-a" or whatever you choose to be added to the end of the file name.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
NOTE: this is not the same as routinely backing up your entire iPhoto library folder to protect your photos. It only protects the loss of your organizational efforts that the database file contains.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: The new rebuild option in iPhoto 09 (v. 8.0.2), Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" makes this tip obsolete. -
I need help please with iTunes on my Windows laptop. It creates duplicates of the songs in there...and I need to know how to:
1. Set up itunes so that duplicates are not created in my library
2. Consilidate duplicates...so I don't have to go one by one deleting them.
Please help...Don't add files to the library that are already in it.
In particular if the option Copy to iTunes Media folder when adding to library is enabled and you repeatedly drag files located outside of the media folder into the library, iTunes will make fresh copies each time because that is what your actions are telling it to do...
In general I find it much better to move new files into the media folder before adding to the library, or just move them to the Automatically add to iTunes folder.
For your existing duplicates I have a script called DeDuper which can help remove them. See this thread for background.

ITunes is making duplicates of my mp3's
I am running the latest version of iTunes, as I just downloaded it today. I had just reformatted my PC and wanted to reorganize the mp3's in iTunes. Before I was just adding files from My Music Folder on my second HDD. This time I wanted to do the same but I also chose to copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library, so it would be much easier next time I reformat. But now im finding that iTunes is making duplicates within the iTunes music folder. Its to late to stop now but how can I avoid this next time?

Everything worked fine for the last two years but now every time that I play a tune from my itunes the file duplicates itself into my 'MyDocuments' folder. If I delete this the song is erased from itunes totally. Ideas??
You are of course deleting the tunes from within the iTunes interface.
The settings that I am referring to are your device settings for the iPad. It should show in the left column of iTunes when your iPad is plugged in.
Go through your playlists and make sure that the tunes(s) are removed from any playlist. You can prevent the sync as noted above then do a sync and the iPad should update with the content from you Mac.

I've rebooted my mac before installing new ios lion, so after everything was done i copied my data back to my mac book pro, then simple clicked on adding to library option in itune and it only synced half of the track and rest simply didnt copy, i thought maybe some error occured and i tryed the same procedure again but its not adding more tracks in it. and i just notice when ever i try play a new song through my data it does not open in itune these are the same tracks and songs i been listening to since ages on different note books and pods..
Help me i've tryed everything but nathing seems to be working. and my itune is uptodated =SUse the trackpad to scroll, thats what it was designed for. The scroll bars automatically disappear when not being used and will appear if you scroll up or down using the trackpad.
This is a user-to-user forum and most people will post on here if they have problems. You very rarely get people posting to say there update went smooth. The fact is the vast majority of Mountain Lion users will not be experiencing any major problems with the OS, or maybe with apps which are not compatible, but thats hardly Apple's fault if developers don't update their apps. -
ITunes 10.2.0.24 Crashes Adding Multiple Music Folders
When adding more than one folder of MP3 music to iTunes 10.2.0.34, it crashes. The event occurs after the processing the MP3 files during the artwork or playback gap processing, its difficult to tell exactly.
The workaround for this appears to be:
Exit iTunes after each folder add and restart.
I have used this method (a pain to do, but it works) to add folders which caused a crash in iTunes when they were second folder added. It appears not to be the content of the folders, but some 'garbage collection' not properly occurring within iTunes. I tested this by:
Adding two folders (Folder A, Folder B)
Start iTunes, add Folder A OK
Add Folder B, crashes iTunes
Restart iTunes, remove Folder A music
Restart iTunes and then add Folder B OK
Add Folder A and get an iTunes Crash

Upgrade to iTunes 8.1- duplicate entries in library
Since upgrading to 8.1 (and having just managed to rescue my iPhone from sync disaster caused by 8.1) I notice that I have duplicate entries in my purchased library which were not presnet before.
This seems to be songs which were purchased before iTunes Plus versions were avaiable, but were subseqently upgraded to iTunes Plus versions. In the music folder two files can be seen for each song, one of which is locked. Both get listed in the library as the same song in this 8.1 version, something that has not happened in earlier iTunes releases.
Should I do anything to correct the library from showing duplicate entries? Or shoudl I wait for this bug to be fixed?
Thanks.um that's not the case for me... I have used the wire that came with the phone as well as the wire that I purchased to charge the phone and the bluetooth headset and I'm still having problems. When I plugin my ipod classic however, it works fine. now the problem with both items is that when I plug them in, is that they show full battery life right away, and they stop charging. The weird thing is that on iTunes, it shows that it does NOT have a full charge. this happens both with the iPhone as well as the ipod. it's very annoying and I have to plug both of them to an electrical outlet so that the battery can charge. And forget about syncing my music, it says it's not recognized, or that is the memory is not available, so it doesn't sync. I've been so ****** at my iPhone lately, that all I want to do is throw it out the window...
And before you suggest what I think you will suggest, yes, I just did a full restore on the **** thing, and it's STILL showing up as fully charged when it's not....
I can't wait till my two years are up with ATT so that I can get rid of this phone. -
Upgraded my phone to iphone 6 from iphone 4. My iTunes with all my music is on a computer that no longer works and can't access the music. Will iTunes Match allow me to get my music off of my iphone 4 and put it on my iphone 6? Sorry about copying twice, new to this.
Do you have iTunes match? You need a computer to manage an iTunes match library.

Overlapping Number Ranges for GL Accounts - does this allow duplicates?

I am just-trying to understand GL numbering ranges.
If I create two GL account groups with overlapping number ranges, what (if anything), is stopping me from creating two GL accounts with identical numbers.
When l try to do this in fs00 I get a message telling me that the account already exists in the company code. Surely having the concept of an account group with overlapping number ranges implies that the account group forms part of the GL account's unique key and therefore allows duplicate GL account numbers.
Or does overlapping mean the ranges ovelap but the GL account numbers have to be unique?

Since a chart of accounts contains many different types of accounts, they can
be grouped into different account groups. Usually, one account group groups
accounts with the same tasks within the general ledger, for example, cash accounts,
material accounts, asset accounts, profit and loss statement accounts, and so on.
By assigning a number range to an account group, you can ensure that accounts
of the same type are within the same number range. Number intervals for G/L
account master records can overlap.
You must enter the account group in the chart of accounts segment; it controls the
appearance of the company code segment of a G/L account. For example, for all
of your cash accounts, you want to be able to display all of the line items. In
Customizing, you therefore alter the field status for your Cash Accounts account
group to make line item display a required entry field.
