ITunes is automatically adding items to download queue -  1 GB

"The iTunes client is downloading items that I did not choose to purchase! I find this annoying and would very much like to get the issue resolved as soon as possible. I would like to have the remaining items in my download queue removed. I would like to receive a credit for these items in the queue.
I purchased a Multi-pass and downloaded an episode of "The Daily Show" on 3/9/2006. This is the only episode that I have chosen to download. I noticed that that iTunes was downloading episodes for a range of dates starting on 3/13/2006. There is 1/2 Gigabyte of The Daily Show episodes days in my download queue. This is particularly irritating because I purchased a song last night that I can not download until I get the issue resolved."
The preceding was the message that I originally sent to customer service. The problem persists. Every time I log into iTunes I find that more episodes have been automatically added to the queue.
I thought that I would be able to select the specific episodes that I wanted when I purchased the multipass.
I have sent several messages to customer service and each time I get a stock answer that had nothing to do with my actual problem.
The first answer began:
"Dear Customer,
I'm sorry to hear your purchased music is missing. Its possible that the title is still in your download queue. Follow these easy instructions to resume your download:
1. Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes installed. iTunes can be downloaded, free-of-charge, from our website. Installing the latest version of iTunes will not affect your download queue. ..."
The second answer began:
"Thank you for your patience as we have worked to resolve the recent problem with The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.
The corrected version of "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart 3/20/06" has been added to your download queue. You may download it at any time, free of charge, by opening iTunes and selecting Check for Purchases from the Advanced menu.
To learn more about the Check for Purchases feature in iTunes, please read this article. ..."
I am getting frustrated with the situation. Please help

The multi-pass is apparently functioning as it was designed to function. It is designed to automatically download the next 15 episodes automatically as they become available.
The text by the "buy" button read "$9.99 (16 episodes)." The fine print beneath indicates that the episodes are contiguous. I might have guessed this but there was a 4 day gap after the first episode.
This is not really what I had expected but I'm not complaining. I have not seen any bad Daily Show episodes.
I received a follow up message from Apple explaining the situation. The message was on par with the excellent support I have received from Apple in the past.

  • How do I stop itunes from automatically adding songs into my itunes library?

I want to disable itunes from automatically adding songs into my library.  Every time I sync up my ipod I'm finding miscellaneous debris on it that itunes keeps importing into it.  Theres got to be a way to disable this function but I can't seem to find it in the preferences.   I'm using a 2011 macbook pro with os x 10.6.7.

I figured out how to change itunes as my default player.  I did this by selecting a new audio file and hitting cmd and I to get info, then I selected the "open with" category.  Inside "open with" theres an option to open the file with quick time, underneath that is the "change all" option.  select that and you will solve this problem if this is a nuisance to anyone else.

  • Why Does iTunes Launch Automatically After A MP3 Download?

I recently updated to Leopard and I've discovered that iTunes will launch automatically after I download an MP3. This is annoying since I keep my MP3's on an external HD separate from my Download folder. You shouldn't have to keep iTunes open just because you've downloaded an MP3. If I download a PDF to my Download folder, Acrobat doesn't launch automatically. That's the kind of OS behavior I expect from Windows. How do I stop iTunes from behaving in this manner or is this another "genius" feature I'll have to put up with?

    Update:
If you're sure it's not your browsers, then most likely you have accessed iTunes' preferences and clicked the Set button for "Use iTunes for Internet music playback" (iTunes > Preferences > Advanced) at some point.
As you can see, there is not an option to undo this change. So, you will either need to use Property List Editor (if you have installed the Developer Tools with OS X), or a 3rd-party property list editor to undo the setting. Short of that, you would have to simply quit iTunes and move the file com.apple.iTunes.plist (/~username/Library/Preferences/) to the Desktop to back it up, or to the Trash--but don't empty it yet in case you want to restore it. Then, launch iTunes and go through the process of setting up the application's preferences again, but don't set the preference to use iTunes for Internet music playback this time.

  • How to delete items in download queue

I've got a number of TV shows in my download queue that I decided against purchasing.  They have never been downloaded.  I delete them manually from the queue, but they keep reappearing.  How can I delete these items permanently?

Sorry, but I find it very annoying that you can't cancel  something you downloaded when you got it for free (for example, the free songs, books, and apps that Starbucks offers). I  don't mind downloading the songs because they are short, but  when I  download a free TV show and then it tells me it's going to take 4 hours to download because it's 1.4 gigabytes, I want to be able to cancel the download permanently. As it stands now, it keeps coming back on the queue. There should be an option to cancel the download permanently.  I have called Apple  once already to discontinue a long download and they helped, but I don't think  Apple customers  should be required to call them to cancel a download, nor should we be required to wait 4 hours for a download to complete before deleting it.

  • Deleting items from download queue

How do I delete items from my download queue permanently?
I know you can just delete them... but they always come back!
I had bought season 3 of supernatural a while back, and I know they messed up some stuff and just fixed it, which is nice, but I don't want to download them all! I have a data transfer limit per month and having the whole season download would kill me.

i have the exact same problem.
i've ordered two episodes of lost but instead of getting just the smaller file version, it came with HD copies and these are choking my satellite connection. i'd love to delete them and i seem to remember i can do so but that info's not easy to find (at least i can't find it.)

  • How do I stop other devices linked to my itunes account automatically adding my downloaded content

I have an itunes account that other family members use.  When I download an app or music or even take a photograph it automatically appears on their devices - we think we have turned off the icloud for their devices so how can I stop this happening?

On their device and yours you will go to Settings - itunes and app store and turn off automatic downloads. That will take care of music and apps. For pictures that is in their devices only Settings icloud -photostream to OFF.

  • How do I stop iTunes from automatically adding mp3s I've downloaded to my library?

As I make a variety of YouTube videos, I tend to scrawl the web for various sound effects and music I can use in my projects. I sample all of them online before downloading, but it seems that whenever I download an mp3 to my desktop, iTunes seems to get a mind of its own and go "Hey, let me add that to the library and play it for you." That's not what I want to do at all, and was wondering if anyone could help me figure out how to stop iTunes from doing so.

Windows Media Player can often be the culprit, with iTunes revealing edits that WMP has made in the background. See this post for suggestions. The most important bit is setting the options as per the fourth image which will stop WMP making changes in future. iTunes will carry on revealing any damage that has already been done.
A slightly more obscure possibility is that your edits haven't taken, either becuase the file is locked (iTunes won't raise an error) or occasionally because multiple tags are involved and iTunes writes to one, but reads back another.

  • How do I redownload previous purchases? Itunes says that the items are downloaded, but when I select them in my library it says that the original file can not be located.

I've gotten a new computer, the hard drive of my original one had issues and I wasn't able to move all of my iTunes over to my nec pc. I went to the purchased area on my iTunes to redownload the missing stuff (music and tv shows), but it says that they all are already downloaded onto my pc. I do find the items in my library but they won't play, I get the option to "locate" the missing original files or "cancel". I've even tried simply repurchasing the tv series, but I get a message to go to my purchases to redownload. Any suggestions on what to do?

If you plug in your iphone, click on it in iTunes, and go to the apps section, it should be checked to sync apps if you want them to show up in iTunes as well as your iPhone. Once synced they will show on both.
Then if you click Apps under the Library header in the left panel of iTunes, you'll be able to permanently delete apps, removing them entirely from iTunes. Highlight an app's icon or a group of icons by holding down Shift and hit the delete key (or select Edit > Delete from the top menu or right-click on an icon and selecting delete).

  • How to prevent itunes from automatically adding tunes to library?  These are tunes I select to play, but itunes inserts them in the library and then I have to go delete them.

If I select a tune to listen to, it opens in itunes and itunes adds it to the library.  I would like to stop itunes from doing this, but I can't find a control to do this or to let me make quicktime be the default player.  So I am constantly deleting stuff that it adds, PIA!

  • Clearing Out Download Queue in iTunes

    Here's my situation:
You know how iTunes lets you scroll through songs you've purchased in iTunes? Great feature, except there's almost a self-destruct button in there. The "Download All" button in the upper right hand corner.
If you accidentally hit that button, the last 250+ songs you've purchased from iTunes (assuming you've purchased that many since iTunes started in 2000-whatever) will get added to the download queue. But they won't download. The phone can't handle a queue that big (at least my iPhone 4S can't). They'll be stuck in a perpetual queue, and it won't let you download anything else. It also won't let you play any of the songs on the queue, even if you manually transfer them from your PC or Mac via iTunes.
Normally, you can tap a download and it'll let you swipe to erase it. But these seem to be frozen. I can scroll through the list, but there's no ability to swipe. Plugging this particular issue into Google brings up some suggestions, such as "reset all settings", "reset settings", and doing a restore from backup. But if your backups contain the offending download queue, it's restored as well (and I don't have a backup from before that point, at least one that isn't very, very old).
So I made an appointment for the Genius Bar, and their solution (they seemed to recognize the issue immediately) was to wipe the phone and set it up as new. No problem, except there's no way to backup the SMS/MMS messages. The only method for backing up the SMS/MMS messages is the official backup method. There's no syncing or iCloud whatever for it.
So now, I'm stuck with losing all the SMS/MMS from my phone from the past 5 years, or have an iTunes app on my phone that won't work.
Has anyone else faced this and discovered a solution?

    shadeland wrote:
Had I known that the backups were not, in fact, and effective way to backup SMS/MMS, I would have taken precautions a while ago. But there's no effective way to backup SMS/MMS.
Does any mobile OS provide this?  I doubt it.  SMS is simply not important to most people.
Keeping 5yrs of message history merely wastes space on the device and potentially slows it down.
If there are important conversations, save those... there is no logical reason to save everything... illogical maybe if the user is a pack rat.
Considering this is the first I've seen of issues with the "Download All" it may be that you're the lucky person to first run across this or it may simply be a fluke, stating it "doesn't work" because one person is having a problem is simply jumping to conclusions with no basis for them.

  • Can't connect to itunes store for download queue

I have a pending download in my download queue. When I attempt to resume the download I get an error that says "Unable to check for unavailable downloads. The iTunes store is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later. Thinking I might have a problem with my PC I attempted to download a very short small size free piece of music and a small free video clip. Both were added to the download queue and started to download. The downloads that are in my download queue is the only thing unavailable.

Go to iTunes ID check your credit card details as they sometimes take parts off such as expiry date or the security number, probably a security check on some accounts. Re-enter the information needed, turn off the iPad or Mac, turn on to reboot, should solve the "not connecting to iTunes" issue as it did for me.
    regards.

  • Itunes download queue?

    Hi there,
I have successfully downloaded all available episodes of a TV series to my iPad with no problems but now for some reason every time i visit iTunes all episodes remain in my download queue.
Is there any way to remove them?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

  • How do I stop iTunes from automatically importing the songs I download?

I usually end up deleting a bunch of songs, but iTunes is automatically importing/adding the songs I download which then creates a lot of missing file links. How do I stop iTunes from doing that, I just want to be able to add them manually by folders.

    I'm having a similar problem.
When I download songs via my MobileMe "iDisk" webpage, it will automatically end up in iTunes and starts playing. I set up my iDisk settings to place my downloads on my desktop, which it does, just fine.
Nonetheless iTunes ALWAYS wanting to be part of it, is really annoying.
I just DON'T want iTunes to start up, just because a download finished. I add songs manually myself when I want it.
    Any advise ?? Thanks

  • PS4 unable to download items in the download queue in standby mode

My PS4 use to be able to remotely download items purchased from PSN web store but not anymore. Items remain in the download queue and only started to download when I turn on my PS4. Game patches are downloaded automatically while in standby mode without any problem. I double checked the setting just in case and everything is as it should be. Much appreciated from any assistance provided. Edit: I have followed some suggestion posted in other forums, including delete all notification message and set my PS4 as primary. Still not working.

Same here. This is annoying. With updates it's random. With purchased games, it doen't work until I get home and turn on my PS4 from rest mode. The Download List says that it will start once my PS4 is turned on. It's in rest mode, that's the point of rest mode, right? I have everything enabled, so it's defintely not the system and I'm definitely not the only one facing this issue.
