ITunes is automatically deleting my iPod-created playlists

Everytime I plug in my iPod to iTunes, it deletes the playlists that I created on my iPod. It's really starting to bug me... Does anyone know if there's some "save playlists" setting or something that can help? Thanks
Ridley

not sure what all has happened but if you hold the shift and ctrl keys down at the same time before and during plugging in of your ipod and continue holding while using your mouse to go to edit-prefer-ipod then check the manual update box. Ive only done this once so not sure when you can let go of shift and ctrl keys thats why i say to keep holding until you check the manual box and then click ok it does work.

  • If I reinstall Itunes will it delete all of my playlists, genres, etc?

    Help,
First time IPod owner who loaded 1,800 songs most of which had bad info (ie: wrong genre, artist showing as title, etc.) I've spent hours making changes in ITunes trying to get them right. I am having troubles connecting my IPod to ITunes and the online support says I need to reinstall ITunes. I looked back at the "music" folder where the files are stored and none of the changes that I made in ITunes show there. So again I ask:
If I reinstall Itunes will it delete all of my playlists, genres, etc?

under normal circumstance, it won't touch them. i've done at least 8 upgrades without losing any genres, playlists or song information.
but, it's best to insure against disaster and back up your music files and library files prior to an upgrade. (actually, it's best to have a regular backup regime even if you aren't planning on upgrading.) this Buegie post is a good resource on those matters:

  • How do I get Itunes to automatically delete nonexistant songs???

How do I get Itunes to automatically delete nonexistant songs??? I am referring to the songs that remain on itunes after you change their name or directory or whatever. It takes too long to delete individual songs. Is there some sort of plug-in available? THANKS!!

10000 responses and you didn't know there was a script that does this?
It's a Windows specific script (not iTunes).
On a Mac, we just use Applescript to do this type of stuff. I'm surprised you didn't know this.

  • Why would iTunes 9.2.1.5 automatically DELETE my iPod's entire music library???

    Hi everyone,
I have an iPod Classic running software ver 1.3.  I keep (kept) my entire music library on the iPod rather than on my laptop.  I've used the iPod this way for nearly 5 years now.  This morning I connected the iPod to my Windows Vista laptop, running iTunes 9.2.1.5, which I do almost every day.
Today was unusual.  When iTunes started up, it told me it was "syncing your iPod," then DELETED everything in my iPod's music library which wasn't purchased on the iTunes website.  Because I only bought a handful of songs from iTunes, this reduced my music library from 25 Gigs to a little less than 15 Megs.  Then iTunes crashed.
Why would iTunes DO this???  I feel like I've been mugged.  That library took years to collect and organize and I don't have access to a lot of the original sources.  The worst part of it all is I had no inkling nor warning that anything was amiss until it was all too late.  And why would iTunes spare only what I'd purchased from the iTunes store???  Is this some sick way of ensuring Apple is the sole gateway to our music access?

It sounds like your iPod did an automatic sync. Whether or not you had it set up that way or not I'm not sure. Anyway, when your iPod automatically syncs it makes sure your iPod MATCHES your iTunes library. If you have no songs in your library (because "I keep (kept) my entire music library on the iPod rather than on my laptop") then it will delete all the songs on the iPod to match the iTunes library. The only exception is that it will copy any iTunes purchased songs from your iPod back to your computer as a way of safe-keeping your iTunes purchased songs.
As a side note, there are way too many people on this forum that don't keep their library on their computer (25 Gigs doesn't take up that much room) or at least store it on an external hard drive (they're cheap). Too many things can happen to your iPod such as; theft, damage, malfunction, or your experience that not keeping a back-up copy is risking losing a "library that took years to collect and organize". I know that I have all the CDs that make up my 31,000 song library that are all on my iPod Classic but I still keep them on my computer AND my backup hard drive. I know if I lost my iPod I really wouldn't want to rip all those CDs again, not to mention hunting down missing artwork.

  • I deleted my "iPod Slection" playlist and now my iPod won't update.

I don't know exactly how it happened but the songs on my original "iPod Selection" playlist got messed up and so iTunes automatically created another "iPod Selection Playlist" and I didn't want the songs it put in that playlist on my iPod so I deleted it. But now my iPod won't update because it says "your iPod cannot be updated because all the playlists selected for updating no longer exist." If anyone could help me I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

Seems like you've got auto sync with your iPod and it is looking for a specifically named playlist.
    Check your preferences.
Create a new playlist and sync that.

  • How do I get Itunes to automatically delete programs I dont want?

I use Replay Radio to download my favorite radio shows and that program automatically puts them into Itunes for me!
I am trying to figure out a way that I can get itunes to delete shows once I have listened to them...I have figured out how to delete them off of playlists, but I want them to automatically delete them from itunes once listened to!
    Thanks for your help!

Well, I guess a good parallel would be Tivo! Do any of you have tivo!?!?
On Tivo, you can delete the show, the very minute you watch it! However, on the ipod, I cant delete the radio shows until Im back on my pc! Unless you know of a way that I can delete them from the ipod as soon as I listen to them...
Otherwise, when you have about 4-5 different radio programs listed by date, it gets confusing as to which one you have listened to...

  • PR automatic deleted which are created via MRP

    Hi,
I have lot of purchase requisitions in system which are automatically deleted.
There are no change logs for these PRs.
There PRs are automatically created via MRP and POs are also automatically created with a batch job.
How these PRs are getting deleted?
    Please advice.
    Thanks,

    Hi
When you are running MRP through MD01 and entering in put paramenter in the initial screen as below.
Processing key            NETCH   Net Change in Total Horizon
Create purchase req.       1       Purchase requisitions in opening period
    Schedule lines                  3       Schedule lines
Create MRP list                 1       MRP list
Planning mode                  3       Delete and recreate planning data
Scheduling                       1       Determination of Basic Dates for Planned
marked are the reason because of which during next MRP run Purchase requisition are deleting & recreating new as per current demand. If any partial PR converted in to PO will become firm & those PR will not be delted automatically during MRP run
    Hope this clear.

  • New iPod, Created Playlist on iPod, Now Can't Delete???

When i dock my ipod in itunes and i click the triangle to reveal the sub playlists i can see one i created earlier but i want to delete it but can't.
i created a playlist called "Purchased" because i wanted an easy way of playing just the songs i purchased from itunes. However, once created i see no way of deleting it as all the songs in the playlist is grayed out. In fact all the songs in all the iPod playlists are greayed out. My "Purchased" playlist is full of songs and i don't want to lose any. I created an iTunes playlist and successfully deleted that but therefter i was unable to sync as itunes told me it could not sync because not all the playlists could be found and i also lost all my songs on ipod at the same time? So i formated my ipod and started again but the old "Purchase" playlist is still there on my ipod???
    Please help
    Paul.
    AMD 4000+   Windows XP

I thought I got this sorted but I havn't and need help.
For the second time tonight and much to my annoyance I have lost all my songs in my ipod. Let me tell you how this is happening.
From iTunes I selected the option to "Manually Manage Music and Videos" in order to delete a playlist i no longer want. I then deleted the playlist "Purchased" from the left hand side under DEVICES. All is fine until I uncheck "Manualy Manage Music & Videos" again in order to re-sync automatically. It's at this point the "Purchased" reappears it's ugly head and I then lose all my files from my ipod.
Under the music tab in iTunes the pre defined playlists plus the one i created "purchased" always remained their and I have no way of deleting them even if i delete them from the DEVICES column on the left hand side once i select Manually Manage Music etc.
    Can anyone help please??
    Paul.

  • Can't delete songs or create playlist

When I connect the iPod to the computer, it acknowledges the iPod and automatically updates. Problem is that I can't control which songs are imported to iPod, or deleted, they are all greyed out.
    Help.
    Chris

The iPod is set to Auto update.
It simply updates everything in iTunes.
If you want to manage your music manually (why did you get a large iPod?), open iTunes prefs -> iPod.
Change it to Manually update songs and playlists.
You can create your own playlists and set it to Automatically update only these playlists.
Simple add/delete form these playlists and plug in the iPod to update it.

  • Don't want Itunes to automatically update my IPOD

I have had a problem with my computer recently and have had to restore it to the factory setting. As a result I have had to delete ITUNES and all of my songs. Although I can reinstall Itunes when my computer comes back from the manufacturer I will not be able to reinstall all of my songs as I had too many to back up.
I am worried that when I reconnect my IPOD to the computer it will automatically update before I have a chance to turn the option off which will mean I lose all my songs - which are not backed up! Any advice on how to turn off the option before the automatic update starts!
    thanks in advance
    Catherine

When you first plug in an iPod, it will ask you if you want to auto update or manual.
Just ensure that you COMPLETELY uninstall, then re-install iTunes first.

  • Itunes wont automatically open when ipod is connected

    Hello there
basically the above ^^ itunes wont open automatically when ipod is connected ive tried the 5 steps and ive also tried the whole tray and exit thing its not WORKING!
    all help much apprciated thanks

I have a interesting hunch that somehow Windows is doing something to you...
One thing you might want to see is if within Windows if the iPod service is running... As there are certain services which automatically get installed when itunes is loaded. These notice the device and loads the app..
Just for reference, here are my Windows Services and their status:
Apple Mobile Device - Started & Automatic
    Bonjour - Started & Automatic
iPod Service - Started & Manual
I thought that a 4th service existed, but can't find it...
Have you tried uninstalling iTunes and downloading to reinstall it again, that might help.. Or else it has something deeper do to with your computer itself!
That's about all I can offer right now.

  • DEP preventing Itunes from automatic sync with ipod

I can't find anything about this anywhere so you might be able to help me!
I changed the podcast automatic sync settings on my ipod and for some inexplicable reaon, the ipod (160gb classic) started sncing manually with itunes. (i'm pretty sure i didn't touch the manual tick box!)
Everytime I unclick the manual snyc button on the ipod page, itunes shuts down and i get a message saying that data execution protection has prevented changes. I have attempted to change the DEP setting for itunes, but I get a message saying that i'm not authorised/ not safe to do so. i am logged in as an administrator.
Anyone have any idea what to do next!?!

I basically was unselecting "manually manage music and videos", ok-ed the standard do you really want to do that box and the itunes shut down.
Windows problems/solutions would then tell me about itunes not having enough DEP priviliges.
Unfortunately I'm not able to tell you what happens, as I have just tried it again to get the exact errors and it has worked beautifully!
no shutdowns, no problems. I haven't done anything differently.
Problem reports and solutions don't mention the DEP thing but say fault with stackhash_fd600.
Obviously posting on this forum in itself is enough to solve problems!

  • Saved photos automatically deleted off iPod Touch

    Hi,
I'm having trouble restoring my photos on my iPod Touch. Recently when saving pictures off Safari, my iPod told me to fix up something in my Photos folder. So when I went to my Photos folder, it said 'rebuilding library'. It always happens when I mass save many pictures at once but it never deletes anything off my iPod. But when since this happened, I can't save any new pictures especially high quality ones more like 1000x1000 in size. Also, it deleted 200+ pictures off my Saved Photos folder.
In addition, my iTunes says I have 2564 pictures on my iPod, when really I only have 2333. How can I get those deleted pictures back? I've synced it with my laptop but I can't get them back onto my iPod. Also, I'm worried that restoring my iPod will make matters worse.
    Thank you~
