ITunes is changing song titles and artists

iTunes appears to be infrequently and randomly changing the artist and song title tags of music in my library.  I usually just put my music on random shuffle, so it can take me a long time to actually identify errors -- like when I listen to music from a particular artist, or when I happen to glance at iTunes when a song iTunes has mis-re-named is playing.  So far, the errors seem to confined within single albums at a time, but that might just be because of the circumstances of me identifying the errors.
In the first case I noticed a while back, an album with six songs had their titles all jumbled up.  Each song was titled with an incorrect song title from the same album.  The artist, album, and genre tags all remained correct.  In the most recent case, two songs from a compilation album had their artist and song title tags overwritten with the info from a third track on the same album (so I ended up with three songs with the same title and artist).
Any idea what might be causing this apart from a crappy coding?

If iTunes and WMP are referencing the same copy of the MP3, then a tag change in one will be reflected in the other. If that is not what you want, you will need separate copies of the song.
Being picky, iTunes will write it's changes to the tag immediately (unless the file is locked as read-only) whereas WMP may choose to do it at some later point in time unless you use an option to "Apply media information changes". WMP will generally notice automatically that another appliation has modified the tag and updates it's library accordingly whereas iTunes only spots the change if it accesses the tag for some reason.
If you want WMP & iTunes to play nicely together you are best off disabling the WMP options for "Rearrange music in the rip folder..." and "Automatic media information update..." (you can still do so manually). I also find it best to change the WMP rip folder to the same as the iTunes Music folder. Letting iTunes "Keep the music folder organised" is a matter of choice (I choose not) but at least WMP can cope if your files get shuffled around by iTunes whereas the reverse is not the case.

  • Why can't I read Japanese characters on song titles and artists on my itunes

For some reason all of my Japanese songs titles and artists are in this random jumbled text, and I was wondering if anyone can help me fix it.

Sorry. I think you misread me. I know you said the software upgrade messed me up and I agree. It was Kobo Support who said the ebook/library book that caused the problem. When I called Kobo Support to see if they had a fix they told me it was my library's problem. I kept going back to the software upgrade and all the trouble shooting I had done - including the paperclip in the back - but the tech just kept getting me to do the same things over and over. You were spot on that they would try to place the blame on something other than their upgrade but they didn't blame ADE. The tech didn't have any new suggestions . I eventually gave up on her and took the device back to its like new settings, unintalled and reinstalled all the software on both my device and pc. It is working now but unfortunately I lost a couple of books.  Thanks for your input.

  • Hebrew Song titles and Artists appear as blank

I want my iPod to show my Hebrew song titles and artists, as opposed to the blank (which makes it very hard to pick songs, as you might imagine).
I understand that it comes out of the box without the capability to do so, but there was a fix for the old ipods on idigital.co.il. This fix however, does not work with 5th generation (I tried and the website says it doesn't). Why doesn't Apple just come out with an official fix? I figure it's something relatively easy to put out, no?
(have latest itunes and ipod updates)

sorry to say, but there isn't any third-party app that can fix that. you'll have to rename songs or live with it. you can send a request to apple to fix this in future software updates. here's the link:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipodnano.html
the iPod software list doesn't include the 4th Gen. but just click the most recent iPod 3rd Gen. software.

  • Why can I not edit song titles and artists as I could in the past?

Why can I not edit song titles and artists as I have in the past?

Do you mean by using the 'get info' function and editing the data there? What is happening instead of what used to happen?

  • How do I copy playlist song titles and artists names to place in an e-mail

There is an "export song list" option under "file" that I tried to use. It gives you an option of saving the text in "plain text," "unicode," or "XML" formats. I've tried all 3 and when I bring up the text in Word, its not organized in columns, its just one word after the next, with information I don't need like track numbers, date modified, etc. I don't want to have to go in and manually delete all the extraneous information. Is there a way to format the list in columns so that I could delete all but the song title and artist name for a 200 song list?

Never mind, I figured it out. I went to "view options" under "edit." I deselected everything but artist, song, and album. I went to the playlist and opt-Aed the list, copy, and then pasted into the e-mail.

    Hi TKCDM1!
You should try to get this purchase onto your iOS device by using the suggestions in the following article:
Downloading past purchases from the iTunes Store, App Store, and iBooks Store

Windows Explorer will display tag properties for mp3 & wma files, not aac (m4a) or wav. It is possible for mp3 files to contain multiple tags but only one will be displayed. Try inspecting the problem fils with a third party tag editor to see if you can tell what is going on. For mp3 files, provided all the details that you want the file to have are displayed in iTunes, you can try using the right-click option Convert ID3 Tag > None a few times followed by Convert ID3 Tag > ID3v2.3 which may well help.

  • ITunes mixing up song names and the album artworks.

This is hard to explain but I'll do my best. For the record, I have 2 iPods that sync with the same playlist (iPod Touch 2nd Gen 4.2.1 for main music and iPod Nano 5th Gen for excercise). I decided to rip a recently purchased CD today and sync it to my iPod. I opened iTunes like normal and I noticed a bunch of unwanted songs in my playlist I use for my iPods. Upon investigation, I noticed the songs are my normal songs, but iTunes has given them the title and album art of a different song in my library. When I click Get Info the correct song name appears in the title box. When I click ok to get out of that menu, the song returns back to the normal title, artist, and artwork. (An example, a song titled Amarillo Sky by Jason Aldean was really Do I by Luke Bryan. When I left Get Info, the song corrected its info back to Do I) After rebuilding my entire playlist and having to re-locate several songs that were now listed under incorrect titles and artists, I syned my iPod nano and realized that some of the songs under the "Songs" category aren't in alphebetical order like they should be. This really bugs me as I like my songs to be in order. To make matters worse, iTunes insists on changing some of the songs back to the incorrect title after I fixed them (Love in an Elevator by Aerosmith keeps getting turned into Eat the Rich by Aerosmith). Any suggestions to fix this ordeal?

Try signing out of the iTunes store. If that doesn't work try rolling back to an older version of your iTunes database as described in Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash.

  • I want to change my playlists and artists on ipod4...how?

I want to change my playlists and artists on my ipod..how do i do this?

Sync them to your iPod. To sync individual items use the manual method, See:
iTunes 11 for Mac: Set up syncing for iPod, iPhone, or iPad
You can delete individual items from the iPod by swiping a song right or left and tapping the Delete button that appears.

  • Can I Enlarge Title and Artist Text when Playing Music?

Hello.  This question pertains to the 5th generation 32 GB iPod Touch.
When playing music, I'd like to know if I can enlarge the text that displays the title and artist of the track now playing.
(I listen to my iPod in bed, but I wear contacts, and take them out at night.  I am unable to read the text clearly.)
If there is a way to enlarge the text, what is the procedure?  Is a separate app required, or can I do it some other way?
    Thank you!   Jd

After doing more research and playing with the iPod, I figured out what to do.  There's a trick to it.
You double-tap the screen with three fingers.  On the second tap, you spread your three fingers out.  That enlarges the screen to almost any size you want.  Then, you use your three fingers to move the screen around.  The Zoom feature will memorize the customization, and will remain that size unless or until you change it.
It's just a little bit tricky, but that's how I got it to do what I want.  Jd

  • ITunes accesses 'net and changes song titles. Please make it stop!

    Hi,
Everytime I put in a CD, iTunes seems to access somewhere on the 'net and displays info about the CD, including stuff like "genre", blah blah blah.
But the most annoying thing is when it changes the title of a song... Recently I inserted a CD single of a pre-release from a well-known recording artist and iTunes decided to name the track "Send In The Clowns" (the actual title couldn't be further afield from this).
I really hate this "feature", want it to stop. How do I do it?

After getting your first reply, I did some quick research, and now I understand what you mean by "upload to the Gracenote database", and a few things came to mind...
(the following rant is not aimed at you, SpaceMonkey, not at all...)
First, I seem to remember that not too long ago iTunes offered a pref which let users decide whether or not they wanted iTunes to connect to the 'net. Now that pref is gone, hence my post here.
Ewwww... how slimily corporate. Take away a feature from software we've all paid for without disclosure; a feature that allows private people to decide whether or not they want to have their home enjoyment of music scanned by an anonymous corporation. Great...
Second, I'm not so sure I'd want to take even 1 millisecond out of my life to add information to this database. Not sure what the greater good is that I'd be contributing to, especially when I don't want the Gracenote "feature" to begin with. Maybe I'm just not that altruistic or something...
But to have to add info to the Gracenote database so that Gracenote won't send the wrong information back to my computer -- a feature I don't want anyway?
I think it's time for me to stop using iTunes, other than to purchase music from time to time. There are plenty of other ways for me to listen to audio on my system. It's all just too... icky... At the moment I'm taken aback at the lack of control I'm afforded while I use my computer, and how features I've paid for are taken away without notice. Great...

  • I can't change the name of my song title or artist

I tried both ways that the help topic told me about and neither of them work. I tried getting info from the internet and double clicking on the title to change "track 01" to an actual song title. Neither of these work.
    What do I do next?

I'f have this problem. -nod.- It wouldn't let me change genres on a song.
I tried clicking on the song, then clicking on the genre, and that didn't work, so I went into the folder where my itunes music all was, to the file itself.
The way my computer is, right click it once, then go to properties, click the summary tab, then advance, and just click on the blank space, and put in the information. Then when your done hit ok, and apply if you'd like.
Go back to itunes and delete the track you just editted from the library, then go back to the file and play it, and the information will be there.
Hopefully that helped, and if it was too jumbled I can unjumble it.
