ITunes is changing the "Media Kind" on it's own and won't change back

After the latest update to iTunes my library got all messed up - reassigned album covers, reassigned "media kind".
I've been working on correcting the assignment of media kind and it will not change. I am able to access the "options" and make the
change, but it doesn't take. Just goes back.
For instance, it changed an album to "audiobook". When I select "get info" and go to the "options" tab and then select "music" and then
"okay" the "get info" window closes but the item stays in "audiobook".
It also changed multiple albums to the same name and different artwork. It's a mess. I cannot restore through time machine because my
library is on an external drive. Need to back that thing up!
Thanks for your help.

Well then unplug everything and start over, try:
Troubleshooting Intermittent Freezes and/or Kernel Panics
Step 1: Do simple maintenance first. Run Disk First Aid from your install CD to check drive and repair permissions. Use a utility like Xupport, Cocktail or Onyx to clean user/system cache, logs, memory swap files, etc. We would also suggest using DiskWarrior or Tech Tool Pro 4 to rebuild directories.
Step 2: Disconnect any external devices except mouse and keyboard. Try a different keyboard and/or mouse if you have one. Also, you might try hooking up another monitor if you have one.
Step 3: Pull your stock RAM out and reseat it. Remove any third-party RAM you installed. Just use the RAM that came with computer or install new "known good" RAM.
Step 4: Pull your video card out and reseat it.
Step 5: Run your hardware tester that came with your computer on extended mode. If all checks ok, proceed to next step.
Step 6: Reset your PMU and NVRAM.
Step 7: Create another User account and run computer under that user. This will help determine if the problem is software related and localized to your Home (Library) folder or your root System.
Step 8: Start and run computer in Safe Mode. This is equivalent to running OS 9 with extensions turned off.
Step 9: Do an Archive and Install. Run the computer for an extended period of time without adding anything back from your Previous System folder.
Step 10: Reformat your drive using "Zero all data" option with your Disk Utility and install a fresh OS X off your install disk.
Step 11: Reinstall your applications one at a time.
Step 12: If you're still experiencing problems after going through the steps above, at this point, your video card, logic board and/or processor(s) may need to be replaced. Take unit to an Apple Service Center. NOTE: You can contact Apple and see if they will send you a video card to try. It's a user serviceable part.

  • In iTunes I'm having problems changing the "Media Kind" with a number of playlists in the OPTIONS menu from "music" to "audiobook". After going through the steps, the next time I check the items have reverted back to "music". What step am I missing?

In iTunes I'm having problems changing the "Media Kind" in the OPTIONS menu from "Music" to "Audiobook". After going through the steps, the next time I check, the items have reverted back to "Music". What must I do to save it as an "Audiobook"?

After more digging in the Support section here and some Google work, I turned off iTunes Match and lo and behold!  I can change the media kind to Audiobook!  So, it looks like iTunes Match locked the files up somehow and for some reason.
I went into iTunes Store > iTunes Match > "No, Thanks" to disable it on the local PC.

  • Changing the media kind.

I can't change the media kind of a digital booklet to make it a book so I can sync it. And I don't have iTunes Match .

"Podcast" is not a file format or anything, it's simply how it was downloaded, such as by being listed in an RSS feed. That's why a PDF file can be a podcast. If you simply download (or create) an mp3 file, and add it to the iTunes Library, it still doesn't have any association with a podcast feed. I think to change it you need to hack one or more of the the user-unfriendly xml files in the iTunes folder. Not something I really want to mess with, unless it's just after a full backup.
Try this AppleScript "Re-Add Selected Tracks as Podcast v1.2" - from http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/scripts07.php?page=1

  • HT201306 I can not change the "media kind" because it's greyed out.  How do I get past this problem?

I can't change the "media kind" to book from music because this option is greyed out.  How can I change this so I can view the digital booklet that should have come with my "delux" purchase?

Does this happen with all media in iTunes or just that one specific track?
If it happens with everything, try following along with turingtest2's fix in this thread -> Information boxes grayed out
The Music folder that those files are stored in might be locked or your user account may not have complete access.
If it only happens with one track, try importing it into iTunes again or redownloading it.

  • Ipad is deleting videos when you change the media kind to TV Shows

Ever since I updated to iOS 8, I have noticed that files that I have changed the media kind from "Home Video" to "TV Show", to better organize my videos on my ipad, are deleted when I press on them to play in the Videos app.
Is anyone else having this problem since updating to iOS 8? This is frustrating as now I have to leave them as regular "Home Video" kinds which means I have to wade thru a mess of files to find the video i want to watch while working out or studying.

I have the same issue on an Ipad with iOS 8, when adding videos via itunes on a MacBook Air. Also the videos that where on the Ipad pre-update in TV Shows and Movies tabs, went from playable to not playable. All videos in home videos tab work. It seems only when 'Media Kind' is changed is there a problem.
Temp work around is keeping all videos as home videos. Hmmm frustrating but may classify as a first world problem?

  • When ever I want to purchase a app it gives me questions but I changed the lament option on my computer but it won't change but I didn't answer and security question

You aren't talking to Adobe here. But still...Is it by any chance asking for a QUALIFYING product? If so, you purchased an UPGRADE and now need to give the serial number of the OLDER product (Acrobat 9 or X) which you must own to be able to use the upgrade. Simples.

  • Can't change the media type in iTunes

I just recently bought my first MBP and I have been busy transferring all my files from my Vaio to my MBP. I convert all my dvds to digital format and keep them on an external HDD (LaCie 1TB HDD) and was adding them to my iTunes on my MBP. I came across a problem trying to change the media kind for some of the videos.
I have several shows on my HDD (anime, Dexter, Walking Dead, etc.) but when I go to change the media kind to TV Show, it doesn't let me. The info on the folder says my MBP has "Read only" permission. How can I change this so I can read and write the files for my MBP? This is about the only snag I've come across trying to set up my MBP similar to my Vaio.
    Thanks in advance
    Bryan

With the folder's "Get Info" window open, click the pad lock at the bottom right of the window to inlock it (you'll need to type in your system password--the one you use to log in to your computer).  Then, select the "read only" privilege next to your name and slide up to select "Read and write."  If there are other folders within the folder, click on the gear symbol at the bottom of the window and select "Apply to enclosed items..."

  • How do you change the media type for purchased movies & TV shows?

I have purchased many movies from iTunes, and would like to organize them a bit better. For example...I would like to classify all of the standup comedy videos I've purchased as TV Shows, with the season title of "Standup" so I can go to one place in iTunes (under TV shows) to find all of my standup comedy.
    I do the following:
    - Get Info on the movie.
    - Navigate to the Options Tab.
    - The Media Kind drop down (where you would change the media kind from Movie to TV Show) is grayed out.
This is true for all media I've purchased from iTunes.
If I have ripped a DVD myself, I can freely edit the media type.
    Things I have tried:
    - Checked the permissions for my iTunes folder (all levels). It is set to read/write.
    - I have tried fiddling with the command line "chmod" command for a movie file. I believe I changed the permissions to "700" which (as near as I can tell) should change the permissions so that I can edit things.
    Neither of these things worked.
Any other things I should try? Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks.
    -Carl

  • I couldn't delete this video after I changed the media type. After I manually went in, it's become really strange. How could I get rid of it for good?

I changed the media kind of a music video on my ipod to a podcast. Suddenly, I couldn't find it listed... It was still on my ipod, but wasn't on the music or podcast lists on itunes. I eventually got into my ipod, found the hidden folder it was in, and deleted it. It's still there in the podcasts section, though, except now it won't even play when I try and play it. I'd be really thrilled if someone could offer me some advice on what to do here, thanks..

Hi wrtlinksys-user, you can try to do a funny reset on the router. To do it, just press and hold the reset button on the device for 30 seconds and when you reach 20 seconds while counting, simply unplug and replug the power adapter of the router. Update us if this will help you.

  • How can I change the media info from Concert Film to Music Video in ITunes 11.01.12

I purchased a concert film a while back from the ITunes store, and in previous versions of ITunes, I had been able to change the media info from concert film to music video so I could watch it in my library (and any devices) without losing any of my library when I synced my devices (could only have either music, movies or tv shows on device - stupid I know), now with the new version, that option is greyed out, so I can't change anything, is there any way around it?
    Thanks so much!

When you say "remove his account", do you mean remove his Apple ID as well as all his stuff (music, movies, and whatever else is housed in iTunes)?  If so, delete all his stuff (music, etc.), have him deauthorize the computer (Store > Deauthorize This Computer), and sign out of his account (Store > Sign Out) and then sign in to yours.
If all you want to do is remove his Apple ID and not fuss with his stuff, then things get more complicated, because you do not own his stuff.

  • I have imported an mp3 to my Library.  I want to keep it as media kind = podcast but no matter how often I change the tag in get info options media kind, the change will not persist.

I have imported an mp3 to my Library.  I want to keep it as media kind = podcast but no matter how often I change the tag in get info > options > media kind, the change will not persist, and the file remains in my Music list not my Podcast list.

    Resolved in update.

  • I am running iTunes on an IBM comp system Win XP with a 70gb hard disk. I have 4 kids with 4 IPOD Touches. Their apps and album art are eating up the hard disk space. I changed the Media Folder to an external hard disk. How do I get the apps to go their?

I am running iTunes on an IBM compatible system running Windows XP with a relatively small hard disk (70gb). I have 4 kids with 4 IPOD Touches, multiple IPOD Nanos, etc. Their apps and album art are eating up the hard disk space. I changed the Media Folder through Edit, Prferences, Advances, iTunes Media Folder to an external hard disk. The new music downloads and purchases go there but the apps and other items do not. How do I get the apps and other iTunes software and downloads to go to the external hard disk

There is no built in function to make this happen.
    Your options are:
    Upgrade the existing hard drive.
Try creating a link for the app folder on the external drive... this may or may not work.
Realistically, a larger hard drive is a better solution, then use the external drive for keeping a backup of the ENTIRE iTunes folder and any other personal data on the system.

  • How do i change the media type on a digital booklet when they option bar is greyed out?

I downloaded an album a couple days ago which came with a digital booklet. I am trying to put it on my phone but need to change the media type to book to be able to do this. whenever I go to the get info tab, the options tab is completely greyed out and wont let me do anything to it. I have tried selecting read only on the file and it did not work. I have windows 8. If there's is any different way of getting this on my phone, anything would be great!

The item must not be read only if you want to change it.
In the new Get Info dialog the Media Kind is in a light grey. Next to that will be the word Music. Hover over it and you should see that it is part of a drop down list control, click and select Book.

  • Changing the media type

whenever i go to make a new dvd, i have to go into "project", then "project info" and change the "media type" 8 GB double layer to 4 GB single layer. is there a way to keep it set it to 4 GB?
also, if i was to make a OneStep DVD, how do i know it will be set to 4 GB?
    thanks,
    David

The cause of this is that Podcasts are listed by "Programme Series Title", but the video shows up in Film by "Episode" title. When you change it to a Podcast, iTunes will sort it by Programme Series Title. However, if the video has no "programme title" information, iTunes will list it as a blank title.
You might see "blank title" Podcasts at the bottom of the Podcast list window.
And of course, when you click on the expand arrow to the left of a Podcast Programme Title, the list expands to show the Episode Titles.
