Itunes is crashing on step 3 of match....ridiculous solution...

I contacted apple about this problem and they told me that they don't know what the problem is and that they haven't been dealing with the problem enough.  However, their solution is that I create a new user and then migrate everything over to the new user from my Time Capsule and then start over.  So, according to apple, this is a problem with the chosen user.....Anyone have any other ideas?

Hello, toshrobbo.
I've found an article that may help you sort things out with iTunes:

  • Itunes match is crashing at Step 3

I have windows 8 and itunes 11 and itunes 11.1 and keep on crashing at step 3 .

I've had this problem for years, first on a 2009 iMac through all OS X and iTunes versions that followed.
Then again with a 2012 Windows 7 Pro Asus.
Again with a 2014 Lenovo Windows 8.1 Update 1 laptop.
I've given up and won't re-subscribe to iTunes Match when my time runs out. The Step 3 scan and crash bug is immortal.

so how do I remove that song without deleting it? (That was my question before -- sorry, I'm not trying to be willfully obtuse -- I just don't understand how to do it.)
If you know the one track that is causing a crash delete it from the iTunes library by highlighting it and typing Option+Delete on the keyboard. In the dialog choose the option to "keep files."
    Faisane wrote:
Why do I have so many unmatched songs? Does changing the Album, Artist, Song information (which I often do because I don't really like the classical music descriptors automatically provided) make the title unmatchable?
Because the matching process is not 100% accurate; or you have an older mastering of an album that did match to what is in the store; or something in your library is not availble in the store. In short your library simply will not "match" 100%. There will be a percentage that must be uploaded.

  • ITunes Match causing iTunes to crash

I have read many discussions around how to work around the Match causing iTunes to crash, but I cannot seem to get past it with the suggestions made in other discussion threads, hence I thought I might try a new one to focus on my specific case.
    I have Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, i7-2600, iTunes 11.0.4.4.
One option many suggest is to add to the View iCloud Status. Unfortunately, I do not have this option in my view menu! It goes from "Grouping" to "Kind". So, I can't see which songs are potentially causing the issue. I did delete songs with no time (less than 1 sec), but it was only a couple and did not make a difference I think.
It has crashed many, many times as I have attempted to go through the process and although I generally make some progress through the entire process, it still gets hung up and I have not successfully made it the entire way. I do have access to what has uploaded through my devices, but it is so frustrating - especially at the $25 per year cost for this.
The additional frustrating part is that when it does crash, you have to log off, log back on, then turn the whole darn thing back on to start it over once again! Mind you, it does go through the steps quicker, but regardless I am sitting here watching the thing go through step 1, step 2, then on to step 3, start uploading artwork and remaining songs, only to have it continue to crash with a couple thousand songs left to go.
Can anyone help with additional suggestions on what to do, how to show the iCloud status, etc.?

I did find how to add the iCloud status - which shows up as an option when Match is turned on - but I didn't try to access it while the Match was working previously. Unfortunately, it STILL crashes but I can at least see what is eligible or not until it does! [Why doesn't it still show up when Match is turned off? Just rhetorical questioning.]

  • HT1349 My iTunes keeps crashing every single time I open a Windows PC or Laptop and the "Matching with the itunes store" starts.  It's driving me nuts because I can't sync to my iphones or my ipad.

My iTunes keeps crashing every single time I open the software on any of my PCs and laptops.  Once the Itunes match features starts it's ony a matter of a minute or two before the software crashes.  I have tons of new songs that I want to sync to my ipod, ipad and iphones but can't get it accomplished.  Any suggestions??

  • ITunes (Win) crashing when trying to match/upload large files

    Hi there,
I've got a little problem with iTunes Match again. Imho it is still veeery buggy but it certainly improved a bit!
    So the problem is:
I am listening to mixes a lot - meaning: large mp3 files with runtimes up to 3hrs.
When I load files like these into my iTunes lib on Windows 7 and then try to upload them into the cloud 9 out of 10 times iTunes simply crashes while analyzing these large files ("iTunes stopped working"). Nothing I can do. Even trying to upload these files one by one didn't help.
Does anyone have any ideas on what to do about this?
    thanks, cheers
    P

    Thanks for the reply!
I know that 200mb is the limit. But as you already noted it should just say "not compatible" or whatever but not just simply crash. Problem is I can't have these tracks in my iTunes library then because every time I try to sync my lib with Match it tries to sync these files as well and iTunes just simply crashes.
I also have a Macbook so I will try to upload the files via iTunes on the Mac. If that doesn't help last idea may be to reduce file size ... although I hate doing this as I prefer 256kbit files.
Split into two would be another idea.
Anyways I had these problems with large files couple of times already but could always fix it by syncing one file at a time. not this time though.

    Hello, GwladysPa.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I believe that the iTunes update is requesting your computer's administrator password to update the application.  Here is the article that explains this process.

  • Why does iTunes Match cause iTunes to crash ?

Why does iTunes Match cause iTunes to crash ?

My problem is similar.  It began right after I allowed an Adobe update to run.  (Adobe Flash Player version 10.0.45.2 is recorded in my Registry.) Now every single website I try to open triggers a window (see below) and repeats many times.
It makes no difference whether I "Allow" or not.  I think it runs this window for every flash object on that website.  It is occurring while I enter this post!
It makes using the Internet MOST challenging.  Surely this is causing major problems for everyone.
I have IE8 on Windows Vista.
Here's the text from the message:
"A website wants to open web content using this program on your computer.
This program will open outside of Protected Mode. Internet Explorer's Protected Mode helps protect your computer. If you do not trust this website, do not open this program.
    Name:  Adobe Flash Player
    Publisher: Adobe Systems Incorporated
(Checkbox) Do not show me the warning for this program again.
    buttons:  Allow         Do Not Allow"
Should I appeal to Microsoft or Adobe for a solution?  Is is possible to install the previous version?
    Thanks for any wisdom.

  • ITunes 9 Crash Fix for .m4p Protected Music

Okay iTunes crashed for more reasons than just .m4p files from the iTunes store. However this is what I had to go through with Apple Tech support to fix the problem and figured it might help.
First off grab a copy of the old iTunes 8 from FileHippo.com at this link:
    http://www.filehippo.com/downloaditunes32/5894/
Then make a backup of your iTunes library, the whole folder just to be sure, normally found in your User Music documents.
Next you want to uninstall the apple software in this order:
    iTunes
    Quicktime
    Apple Update
    Apple Mobile Device support
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Then restart your computer to fix the registry items on a Windows PC, not sure what to do with Macs exactly.
After, install iTunes 8, restablish your library by importing the "iTunesLibrary.xml" file normally found in your user Music documents. This should prevent all the crashes that you might be experiencing with iTunes starting up, playing .m4p files, syncing ipods, etc. At least until Apple can find a solution.
    Added Note:
Also just experimented with the new iPhone software. 3.0.2 firmware does sync with iTunes 8. You will just be missing some features like iTunes U and the new App Organizer GUI. But at least you will be able to listen to your music and sync your stuff with the phone without crashing.

I'm using a Windows 7 PC.     Completed stes 1-5 above.    Stopped MATCH when it was 3 songs short of completing STEP in the MATCH process.     When I right clicked on the viewer bar nothing happened.    Tried it in several areas of the upper screen including the row where "Songs, Albums, etc" and also in the menu screen (where "File, Edit, etc") appears.   Since none of that worked, I then added "iCLOUD STATUS" in the SEARCH box thinking that may find the errors you had mentioned.   However, that didn't work.    Am I missing a step?

  • How do I stop my iTunes from crashing

Hey can some one help me out my iTunes keeps crashing and I don't know how to fix it

    Hello there, Mateorocks.
The following Knowledge Base article povides some great troubleshooting steps for your issue:
Can't connect to the iTunes Store
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1368
    Particularly:
Troubleshoot issues on an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
If you haven't been able to connect to the iTunes Store:
Make sure your date, time, and time zone are correct in Settings > General > Date & Time.
Note: Time Zone may list another city in your time zone.
Make sure that your iOS software is up to date by tapping Settings > General > Software Update (iOS 5 or later) or connecting your iOS device to iTunes and clicking Check for Update on your device's Summary page.
Check and verify that you're in range of a Wi-Fi router or base station. If you're on a device with cellular service, make sure that cellular data is turned on from Settings > General > Cellular.
Note: If connected to cellular data, larger items may not download. You may need to connect to Wi-Fi to download apps, videos, and podcasts.
Make sure that you have an active Internet connection. You can check the user guide for your device for help with connecting to the Internet.
Make sure that other devices (portable computers, for example) are able to connect to the Wi-Fi network and access the Internet.
Try resetting (turning off and then on again) your Wi-Fi router.
If the issue persists, try troubleshooting your Wi-Fi networks and connections.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro.

  • ITunes 11 Crashes When Attempting to Sync Podcasts

My two computers, a Mini and a MacBook both run Snow Leopard (10.6.8) so I can continue to use Photoshop CS3. I made the horrible mistake of "upgrading" to iTunes 11.1.1 at Apple's suggestion. While I agree with many of the aesthetic and functional complaints I've read on this forum, my issue is more serious. When I attempt to sync new podcasts iTunes immediately crashes. Specifically when I attach any of my four functioning iPods, ranging from 3rd Gen to 7th, the device comes up on the File page, the Summary page opens correctly and so does Music. But when I select Podcasts I immediately get the dreaded spinning beach ball of death and iTunes in my open Force Quit window turns red. Force quit is the only way out. I've "upgraded" to 11.1.2 and now 11.1.3 with the same results. I have sent in dozens of crash reports to Apple and have written the iTunes guy at MacWorld with no response from either. My crash reports are no longer polite though I'm aware the person reading the reports  is not responsible for releasing this buggy mess.
I have Time Machine and was able to install an older version of the application,10.6, but was unable to regress the iTunes library so now the app is incompatible with the library which is apparently permanently changed, even with Time Machine. Installing 11 also wiped out 6 years of carefully archived podcasts, many of which are no longer available at the iTunes Store.
Any suggestions are welcome. If I absolutely have to I guess I'd be willing to install Mavericks on the MacBook if I knew that would solve the iTunes issues but I resent that I have to do so. I have been a loyal Mac fan since 1984 but now that Apple is fat and happy it looks like it's going to replace Microsoft as the company with the black hat.

As I said that was a Test.
Now we know that iPhoto is sound, as is the Phone, it's the other Library that's damaged.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
However : Library Manager has not been fully updated to work with 11 yet. So, best to wait until Wednesday (when the release is due) to do this step.
    Regards
    TD

  • ITunes keeps crashing on my Dell PC.

iTunes keeps crashing on my Dell PC with Windows Vista. I have already uninstalled and reinstalled- didn't help.  iTunes will open, but then crashes after about two or three minutes, no matter what I'm doing with it at the time. Any ideas?
Could a lack of available hard drive space be contributing? I was about to move my iTunes library to an external hard drive, but was hoping to resolve this issue first.
