ITunes is driving me up a wall...PLEASE HELP.

Question

I don't know where else to turn. Basically, my whole life is on my iPod, you know? Without music, I'd be p*ssed off everyday and just generally annoyed with the people I live and go to school with.
Problem is, the other night, my iPod randomly decided it was going to delete my 9000+ songs, 100+ videos and podcasts off of it. With good reason, I was pretty ticked. I figured whatever, I'll deal with it, I'll just start putting them back on. No go, because iTunes freezes every time I try to add music. I wish I could explain this better, but if these screen shots help explain the problem, here you are:

However, the little syncing icon stays there FOREVER and doesn't rotate...it's just frozen there:

Words honestly don't convey how close I am to flying off the handle over this. I JUST want my songs back on my iPod. I have virus scanned the crap out of every inch of my laptop; I have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes a billion times and nothing's working. I've even tried other programs that can sync files to an iPod, and they ALL quit on me. Nothing's working. I am at my wit's end. Please, is there ANYTHING I can do about this? I don't want to stop using iTunes...I quite like it. But all of a sudden, for the first time ever, it's screwing up on me and I just need a solution before I go crazy.

I understand that, but it's doing it when I'm adding even ONE song at a time. Nothing's working. On top of all of this, there was a brief moment the other night when it was working fine and I was able to put 2000 songs back on my iPod...only, about a half hour ago, they somehow deleted all again. I mean, iTunes was MINIMIZED and it happened; I didn't touch anything.
I've restored the thing, I've tried so many things...no matter how many times I restore it or it restores itself, there's still the problem of iTunes to conquer, with it constantly freezing even when I'm adding one measly file of 3mb at most!
