ITunes is killing my Windows 7 64-bit

I have setup a new PC, installing Windows 7 Professional 64-bit on an SSD drive with data etc on a separate hard drive.
It was all going swimmingly until I loaded ITunes 64-bit and left it running iTunes Match overnight, came back in the morning to it hung at the "Starting Windows" screen. So I restarted and it bombed out on configuring windows updates, I had to do a System Restore - I blamed Windows Updates and turned them off.
The computer was fine all day, and that evening I loaded iTunes and left it doing it's thing overnight, came back in the morning to it stuck on the "Starting Windows" screen again  - remember there was no automatic updates loading this time. This time it did reboot OK and was fine all day.
It started up ok this morning and was perfectly fine - I ran iTunes again (this time whilst I was using the computer and watching what it was up to) and it was doing an iTunes Match check and had got stuck on song 19364 out of 20k+, and it was stuck there some while, so thought I would end the task. At this point I noted that the running process was "iTunes....*32" - I definately thought I had got the 64-bit version.
Anyway it really wouldn't end the process and it had killed Outlook and Excel too, so I restarted the machine, and was then presented with a BSOD and numerous other problems. I ended up having to go back to a previous System Image as a System Restore wouldn't even fix it.
I did a bit of research and found that in days gone by (Vista x64 to be precise) there was an issue where you thought you were downloading iTunes 64-bit but it was actually sending you the 32-bit version, and when I saw the *32 beside the process in Task Manager I thought has the same thing happened here ?
Anyway, having uninstalled iTunes, I have been happily using all aspects of the PC all day without incident.
Naturally I am now terrified of reinstalling iTunes again, but this is the only PC I have and we have two iPods, two iPhones and an iPad and now no iTunes to connect them too.
Can anyone shed any light on this please ?

At this point I noted that the running process was "iTunes....*32" - I definately thought I had got the 64-bit version.
That's normal. The 64-bit itunes (and related software) is a mix of 32-bit and 64-bit componentry. itunes.exe is 64-bit.

    perfect, thanks.
When I try to connect to the itunes store, it says 'accessing itunes store' and just hangs there.
With those symptoms, I'd try the following document:

I can't get new version of itunes to install on Windows 7 64 bit computer. Receive message that reads insufficient privileges to access c:\program files\ipod\bin. I've followed several threads I've read here but nothing is working.

For such situation, I'd suggest the following:
    1. Remove current installed office with the fix-it tool in
KB2739501, and follow the "Remove Office manually" section to make sure there are no remaining files
    2. Either download a trial version of Office 2013 from
    http://office.microsoft.com/, or from
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/evalcenter/jj937170
    3. Reboot your computer in clean boot mode, and run setup again

  • Installed Itunes 11.0 on Windows 7 64-bit / Itunes store crashes app completely

    Hello
I Installed Itunes 11.0 on Windows 7 64-bit and I can download podcasts and it will sync,
but after downloading app updates and clicking done,
Itunes crashes immediately when it tries to access the itunes store.
If I try to access the Itunes store though Itunes at any time it crashes.  CrashTunes?
Ninetynine percent of the time I don't want to go to the Itunes store ...
I want to sync my updated pocasts and updated apps to the phone and leave.
not half-sync my phone, crash and repeat until I get the timing right,
then have to break more traffic laws that usual to get to work on time.
    Sorry for the vent,
Thanks for your time to any of those who help,
    Bobby

After numerous calls with Apple support, I finally got it working
For me, the problem was the following:
    1. Make sure that Internet Explorer is your standard browser for windows (if not...make it)!
    2. In Internet Explorer go to "Internet Options" then "Advanced"
    3. In the list scroll down to "Security" and UNCHECK "Check for server certificate revocation"
    4. Make sure that (a bit further down) "Use SSL 3.0" and "Use TLS 1.0" are CHECKED.
    5. Delete the "SC Info" folder once again...
    6. Run iTunes in Admin-Mode
After that, I was able to activate my computer and I changed my browser back to Firefox afterwards...
Hope that will help you too !!
    Cheers

  • Can't get itunes to work for windows xp 64 bit

I can't get itunes to work for windows xp 64 bit. It won't even download.

These are the Windows requirements according to the iTunes dpownload site http://www.apple.com/uk/itunes/download/http://:
Windows XP Service Pack 2 or later; 32-bit editions of Windows Vista, Windows 7 or Windows 8
64-bit editions of Windows Vista, Windows 7 or Windows 8 require the iTunes 64-bit installer
xp 64 bit is not mentioned but it doesn't seem to be supported for the latest ITunes so it seems that you're out of luck.

  • I cannot sync to itunes on my computer (Windows Vista 32 bit) with my mini conected.

I cannot sync to itunes on my computer (Windows Vista 32 bit) with my mini connected. What should I do?
My Mini will not boot up. I tried holding both buttons down.  I got a "connect to itunes" message. I connected. and nothing happens.

    Hello there Chess-ster,
If I understand correctly your iPad mini is not being recognized in iTunes on your Windows Vista PC. I would recommend you use the troubleshooting in the following article:
iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch not recognized in iTunes for Windows
Start with these steps and work your way down as needed:
    Restart
Turn off your computer and your iOS device, then turn them on again.
    Update your computer
Check to make sure that you've installed all required updates for your computer.
    Update iTunes
Check that you have the latest version of iTunes installed on your computer.
    Check the USB cable
Verify that the 30-pin to USB cable or Lightning Connector to USB cable is free of debris and not damaged. If another cable is available, test with that cable instead.
USB cables that are bundled with third-party products or accessories might work only to charge those products and might not transmit data. Also, if you're using a third-party case or extended battery pack, try removing the case and connecting the Apple-supplied USB cable directly to your device.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Sterling

  • Why doesn't 64 bit iTunes install on my Windows 7 64 bit PC?

Why doesn't 64 bit iTunes install on my Windows 7 64 bit PC?   I can download the 64-bit installer from here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1427
But after I run the installer, I get an error message stating that the installer is for 32 bit machines and that I should download and install the 64 bit installer instead.  (Been there, done that, using two different browsers for the download.)  Why would I get such a message when my PC is 64 bit O/S and the iTunes installer purports to be for that type of PC?
    Please help,
    -Bruce

When you get on the download page scroll down on the left hand side there is 64bit version.  I installed it. But the thing I can't work out is in task manger says 32bit

You might have better luck posting in the iTunes forum since you do not hav an iPod touch problem.

I'd first try downloading an installer from the Apple website using a different web browser:
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/
If you use Firefox instead of IE for the download (or vice versa), do you get a working installer?

  • Issues with itunes 10.5 on Windows 7 (32 Bit) When Trying to sync iphone 4S or older

I see a lot of people out there, specifically windows OS owners (xp all the way to 7), having issues with iTunes 10.5.  Here are the following issues I've encountered (some may only have one problem, others my have a combo pack of problems).
    1. iphone 4S or older won't sync or backup
    2. iTunes store won't open
The issue I found after using the diagnostics tool in iTunes (which is useless in identify scripting issues or major communication issues), reviewing the windows event log, and reinstalling all apple software and components, was the fact that my spyware and anti virus software was causing a communication error within apple's software.  I use spyware doctor with anti virus.  I had to uninstall spyware doctor in order for iTunes 10.5 to work.  After that, everything worked well and I did a clean install of spyware doctor.
If the issue still persists, you might have to reset your internet protocol (TCP/IP).  You have to run a command prompt as an administrator and enter the following: netsh winsock reset
Visit this Microsoft link for more info about resetting your IP:  support.microsoft.com/kb/299357
Finally words:  Apple, like all other software companies, continually encounter software glitches and issues because they don't test products correctly before bringing them to market- this has been a reoccurring theme for the last 2-3 years.  The most important aspect of using any software should be functionality, efficiency, ease of use, and above all "A Positive End User Experience."  Wasn't that Steve Job's mantra?  We can all hope that Apple embraces his philosophy and vision for the many years to come.  This, above all, is not a great start for Apple moving forward without their true inspirational leader.

Here is what worked for me for both 10.5 and 10.5.1 after hours of frustration with Itunes stopping and shutting down in the middle of a sync or tranferring Apps downloaded on my Ipad2 or Iphone 4:
Start iTunes in iTunes Safe Mode:
    1.  hold down the Shift and Control key together and click to start iTunes.
    2.  when you see the iTunes icon in the task bar, click on it.
    3.  you will get a box that says "iTunes is running in safe mode.  Visual plug-ins you have installed have been termporarily disabled."   [I don't know what plug-ins I installed but you should clearly see that these so-called visual plug-ins are likely the cause of your issues];
    4. click Continue to open iTunes.
You could already have your device connected to your computer or do it after opening iTunes in its safe mode.
Now press your sync button and everything should work fine.
I also disabled Genius in iTunes preferences but I'm not sure if this is one of the issues causing these types of problems.
I hope this works.  This may be the workaround for all of us Windows 7 64-bit folks.

I just downloaded iTunes into my Toshiba laptop with OS Windows 7 (32 bit). When I try to open iTunes, it just says Microsoft detected a problem while opening iTunes and asks for an error report to be sent.

    Hi,
Did you mean that the way to upgrade Windows 7 to Windows 7 SP1? Firstly, if you need to upgrade IE 8 to IE9, 10, 11, you do need to upgrade Windows 7 to SP1.
To upgrade system, you can adapt to check Windows update, then download and install the SP package.
You can also choose to install the SP 1 package manually. Please access to the link below to downlaod Windows 7 Sp 1 package:
