ITunes is knocking out the audio on my Windows XP

Recently a strange problem has occurred. iTunes was functioning just fine three days ago but now when I launch iTunes I receive this error message from iTunes:
"iTunes has detected a problem with your audio configuration. Audio/Video playback may not operate properly."
The result is that I get no sound when playing iTunes, either audio or video. When I reboot my computer my audio devices are working just fine and I can play audio from other sources such as youtube or other internet sites. Once I attempt to launch iTunes, I get the error message and then no audio works on my computer no matter what I try to play from.
Before I try to launch iTunes, my system audio devices are all working properly. After I attempt to launch iTunes, the control panel tells me that there are no audio devices installed. If I do a hardware reinstall of the audio device it will work until I launch iTunes again. iTunes is knocking out the devices.
I have reinstalled iTunes. I have updated iTunes. The same things happens. I have tried everything I can think of.
You are my only hope.

Possible resolution...we'll see if it takes. I removed all hardware and software that had anything to do with audio and video and then added things back one at a time, testing the iTunes after each reinstall. When I reinstalled my Logitech Quickcam Orbit MP and then started iTunes the error message and the audo problem returned. I removed the cam and then tried again and iTunes was fine. So I think that might have been the issue...although we'll see. At least iTunes is working now and I was able to watch the season finale of Heroes which was a great relief. I am sad to see the Petrelli's dead but at least Hiro was able to find himself. Anyway thanks for all your help and I hope that iTunes remains friendly to me.

The sampling rate is set by the Sony DVMCDA2 you are using, when the conversion is made from the analog input to the digital (DV) output. You should be outputting standard DV which is 16bit 48khz audio.
Assuming you are in the US, your Easy Setup for FCP should be DV-NTSC, and then open the Log and Capture Pane and set the Capture Settings Device Control to Non-Controlable Device and you should be good to go.
You will have to roll the deck manually and start and end your capture manually.

How to knock out the shape of a placed object

This is a montage of approximately 250 small images in ID CS5. Each photo is a separate object. I would like to knock out the shape of the dog in silhouette to reveal the background layer, which is underneath the small images and can't be seen in this picture. Then I would like to add a drop shadow to give the background layer some depth.
I know how to do this with either text or a shape created in InDesign, but I'm having trouble getting it to work for a placed object. I've tried using the silhouette as an EPS, AI and PSD but can't figure it out.

Draw a large frame to cover the page. Place the dog over that and use the
pathfinder panel to cut the dog out of the frame. Now group the little
images and cut them to the clipboard. Paste into the frame with the cutout.

Sounds like there is a bug in the firmware of your router.
Check for a firmware update on the support web page of your router's manufacturer.

ITunes Knocks Out Vista Audio?

My mom just received a new iPod Shuffle, as well as a new computer with Windows Vista Home. Ever since iTunes was installed, the audio on the computer will go out completely after about an hour or so and doesn't come back until we reboot. We've updated audio drivers, contacted Dell customer support and no one knows what the problem is. Could this be caused by iTunes and Vista not being compatible? If so, is there any solution yet?

I have a similar issue with iTunes on my PC. A song will be playing just fine then all of a sudden the audio is severely degraded (lots of static and very choppy). This continues for a bit (~30sec) then the audio cuts out completely. In fact, I get no audio from any application after this happens. I must log out and log back in.

Balancing out the audio?

I recently did a shoot for work out in a field on a windy day...editing the footage, the sound between clips isn't as even as i'd like it to be - are there any filters that can help me correct this? Thanks!

If you mean that the audio level (volume) varies from clip to clip, then you should toggle ON clip overlays and then you can use the mouse to grab the overlay and raise or lower the audio level in the clip. (The overlay is a thin pink line through each audio clip.) You can refine this if you place keyframes on the overlay (using the Pen tool) and then you can raise or lower the audio between pairs of keyframes instead of the entire clip.
You can toggle the overlays on a number of ways - quickest is to click the graph-like icon in the lower left corner of the timeline window, or Option-Command-W, or View>Show Overlays

Trying to knock out the white areas, is there an "easy" way?

I created a graphic for a softball team that looks pretty traditional to how baseball/softball graphics generally look with the bold black lines and such. I have a lot of white areas which are suppose to be knocked out so the shirts color can show through. Currently, most of those white areas areas are white objects overtop of colored objects. I know how to knock them out of the colored objects using the pathfinder tool but this time, I just have soooo much! Its just twisting my mind trying to figure how to knock out of what layer and object and so on. I know to convert all the text and strokes to fills which helps a lot, but is there any quicker or easier way to have all those white objects knockout the colored ones? My brain is hurting with this one!

Generally speaking knockout (or KO) means no printing, or white. I think what you want is for the elements that are colored "White" or 0,0,0,0 or 255, 255, 255 (RGB) to change to [None]. You can select one object with the fill color White, then go to Select> Same Fill Color> and change them all to None. Another way to do this is to select all the White fills and change them to Overprint: Window> Attributes> Overprint Fill. You will need to go to View> Overprint Preview. Note some PDF viewers or rips might not accurately display or print overprinting White, so changing them to None is usually the better way. If you can post a screen shot of your work, we might be able to give you more suggestions.

Itunes Does not recognized the Audio CD in my drive

I need help. Initially istalled Itunes with no problem. When I realized it filled my IPOD with all of my songs from my music folder so I deleted all the songs from my library and from the IPOD. I changed the update default to manual. At that point I could not see any music on my computer. I wanted to download some of the music. I re-installed the software twice, changed to automatic update but now nothing works. I can't see the music on my computer or a music CD in my drive. Even through I checked Itunes as my default player, it doesn't fire up when I insert a CD. Nothing! my email address is [email protected] Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

So you connect the iPod containing a hard drive. I would guess you are using USB, right? Then Windows opens a window (wow, that's repetative) that identifies this as a USB hard drive.
Am I close?
It sounds like you've told the iPod to act in Disk Mode. On the same preferences pane that you are telling iTunes to open, uncheck the box for enable disk mode. the mini should stop telling your computer it is a hard drive.

After Effects isn't rendering out the audio in my video?

I have the audio output box checked and the same exact setting is working for every other Mac in the office. I just don't get it.

There could be a lot of reasons for this.
Your video may not have an audio track: either no audio at all, or the audio is embedded in the video track; AE needs a separate track.
You may have the audio turned off: check for a little speaker icon with the layer in the timeline, and turn it on.
You may have compressed audio -- mp3, ac3, etc -- and AE doesn't play nicely with it. Turn them into aiff or wav files.
You didn't say where you're noticing this lack of audio: in AE, or after rendering.
....aaaaand it's tough to know the location of that audio output box you checked, because you didn't say.
