ITunes is launching automatically

just recently, iTunes has started launching automatically. I don't have "open at login" turned on, and no ipod/iphone is attached. I have repaired my disc permissions as well. any thoughts? this is driving me nuts!

i'm using the apple-supplied bluetooth keyboard and magic mouse. It's definitely not a keyboard shortcut unless there's one i'm not aware of? If i disable bluetooth, i won't be able to use the keyboard/mouse so...thanks for the suggestions though.

Any ideas why it's doing this and how I can stop it?!
    It's a little annoying.

There are at the moment 108 Widgets listed at the Apple Widget downloads page in the Music category.
I guess at least half of them are iTunes related. There are well and less well programmed ones (even rubbish). I consider it bad programming when a Widget calls iTunes when it is not running and decides to launch it.
Obviously there's a background process running in the Widget that requires iTunes to be active and the Widget 'decides' to launch iTunes.
If you like the Widget, you might try to contact the programmer, asking to change that behaviour.

  • Why Does iTunes Launch Automatically After A MP3 Download?

I recently updated to Leopard and I've discovered that iTunes will launch automatically after I download an MP3. This is annoying since I keep my MP3's on an external HD separate from my Download folder. You shouldn't have to keep iTunes open just because you've downloaded an MP3. If I download a PDF to my Download folder, Acrobat doesn't launch automatically. That's the kind of OS behavior I expect from Windows. How do I stop iTunes from behaving in this manner or is this another "genius" feature I'll have to put up with?

    Update:
If you're sure it's not your browsers, then most likely you have accessed iTunes' preferences and clicked the Set button for "Use iTunes for Internet music playback" (iTunes > Preferences > Advanced) at some point.
As you can see, there is not an option to undo this change. So, you will either need to use Property List Editor (if you have installed the Developer Tools with OS X), or a 3rd-party property list editor to undo the setting. Short of that, you would have to simply quit iTunes and move the file com.apple.iTunes.plist (/~username/Library/Preferences/) to the Desktop to back it up, or to the Trash--but don't empty it yet in case you want to restore it. Then, launch iTunes and go through the process of setting up the application's preferences again, but don't set the preference to use iTunes for Internet music playback this time.

  • ITunes No Longer Launches Automatically When My iPhone Plugs In

So as the subject line says, my iPhone no longer starts iTunes when it is automatically plugged in. It just stopped doing this after I talked to AppleCare to get my MobileMe working (my computer is old so it uses .Mac but it wouldn't load successfully so AppleCare changed some preferences around). Anyway, now when I plug my iPhone in, iPhoto launches but in order to get my phone to perform a backup, I have to manually open iTunes when before both iTunes and iPhoto launched automatically.
Anybody know how I can get it back to launching automatically when I plug my phone in to the computer?

Like the poster "Sig", I have this problem as well.
I checked the Login Items in the preferences and the radio button was checked. So, that's not the case. Nor was I using any iPhone utility either.
Now, I tried all alternate USB ports on my Mac Pro and I also tried plugging into my iMac 20' 2.0Ghz Core 2 Duo. My iPhone is not recognized on either. I think it's something specific to iPhone v3.01 and 3.1 software. Because, I've not upgraded my iMac's iTunes yet. So, I think we can either rule out it being iTunes' fault. That or this iTunesHelper needs is broken... if that is the case.
So, do we have some better solutions to this problem?
PS: Oh, and yes, I did update iTunes to v9.0.1 on my Mac Pro. Still no response.

  • My ipod 1st gen battery went totally dead because the usb cable was defective. I've changed the cable.  now when i connect my ipod to the netbook, itune is not launching automatically and windows does not recognize it......how can these issues be resolved

My ipod 32gb 1st generation battery went totally dead because the usb cable was defective.  I have since replaced the cable but now itune will not launch automatically as it did before and windows xp does not recognize it.  Nonetheless it is charging.  However can i resolve these issues bearing in mind that i am not tech savvy?

Try disabling a/v software and turn off the Firewall on your PC.
    Disable antivirus software
    Turn-Windows-Firewall-on-or-off
Then connect the iPod to your computer. Launch iTunes. If your computer still won't recognize the iPod check out this article.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538
Once your iPod is functioning again, with it connected to your computer, launch iTunes. Select the iPod under Devices in the source list on the left.
Select the box next to:   Open iTunes when this iPhone is connected
That way iTunes should open automatically when you connect your iPod to your computer.
And iTunes / Preferences - Devices. You can have your iPod sync automatically whenever it's connected from the Devices pane.

  • ITunes 8.2 no longer launches automatically on iPhone connect ?

Is this something different with iTunes 8.2. iTunes always used to launch automatically after connecting iPhone. It will recognize phone but I have to launch iTunes manually and wait after I connect the phone.

Yes - there used to be a checkbox for this in iTunes preferences asking whether or not to automatically launch iTunes when connecting an ipod (maybe for phone to in pre 8.2 versions) but they took it out ??? Somebody figured out to keep iPhoto from launching you have to open a different program called Image Capture and go into the preferences and tell it not to launch any program when connecting a camera (which iphoto sees the phone as), but I don't know where they hid the itunes launch switch now ???

  • Ipod Nano refuses to launch automatically with itunes 8.2 on mac

    Hi all,
I'm hoping someone can please help. I have a 2nd Generation Nano and it now refuses to launch my itunes 8.2 automatically and therefore I am unable to get to my ipod's music at all via my mac.
I used to get the DO Not disconnect logo flash up on screen, but this NO longer activates. It does however still charge the ipod fully via the USB cable provided.
I've now had to resort to uninstalling 8.2 and trying to work with 8.01, but this doesn't appear to have rectified the problem. I have yet to restore the ipod but was hoping I could avoid that option.
If anyone has experienced anything similar or has a solution to the problem please get in touch.

    pictures illustrating the problem:
"iPhone" is an album containing 111 photos. No photos actually appear even after syncing - as shown by the capacity bar at the bottom:
    http://i42.tinypic.com/30mo2ev.jpg
Note: I've tried syncing just ONE photo (inside AND outside iPhoto) and it doesnt work.
Also tried under Windows XP and syncing ONE photo. Didn't work either. (also running iTunes 8.2 as I don't have an old version to try...)
iPod Photo Cache is created correctly. Tried deleting and recreating it. Definitely works.
    http://i41.tinypic.com/1217og4.jpg
If I use something like the demo of Ecamm Phone View ( http://www.ecamm.com/mac/phoneview/ ) to view the contents of the iPhone, it is clear that NONE of the iPod Photo Cache thumbnails got transferred to the iPhone. (If i manually transfer it into the Photos folder the photos work – of course, until iTunes syncs again as it then deletes all the photos once again.)
Tried restoring iPhone - no help.
Clearly the problem is sporadic (as not many ppl have reported it) but yet, for those that are affected, it stops something that has worked before.

  • Itunes doesn't launch automatically, could you help me?

Hello, when I connect Iphone or Ipad, I tunes doesn't launch automatically even if the option in Itunes is selected. My OS is windows xp.
    Bye
    Fabio

I’ve found another solution for those where this doesn’t resolve it.
    From user Crosbie at MacForums.com
You can extract iTunes Helper from the iTunes package, if you like, to replace the absent one.
It can be found by right-clicking the iTunes app and choosing 'Show Package Contents'; then navigate down to the 'MacOS' folder. You can then drag it to your open 'login items' window.

This solved the issue for me, where unchecking and re-checking didn’t.

  • ITunes doesn't launch automatically when iPhone is plugged in.

It used to be, that when I plugged my iPhone into my Mac, iTunes launched automatically. It stopped doing that.
If I launch iTunes myself the iPhone appears and everything works fine. I checked all the settings and asked the guy at the Genius Bar, but no joy. Anyone know what can cause this?

    Hey Alexander,
Has iTunes Helper been removed from the login items? Go to System Preferences> Accounts> Login Items.
You can add it again manually as described here: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1610692
you can also get it back by downloading and reinstalling the latest version of iTunes.

  • Mac osx 10.6.8 itunes launches automatically and will not respond to quit or force quit

mac osx 10.6.8 itunes launches automatically and will not respond to quit or force quit in the Activities Monitor.  When I quit or go into the Activities monitor and try to quit, it goes off, briefly, then immediately relaunches.  If i turn the computer off, and then on, iTunes launches automatically.  ITunes 10.4.  The only thing I remember doing different, lately, is I just updated a couple of days ago.  Has anyone else had this issue?  Thanks!

  • ITune won't launch automatically when iPod attached

I'm giving my brother my old Mac iPod and just reformatted it so he can start using it on his PC. Everything is working fine except that iTunes will not automatically launch when the iPod is attached. All the settings are correct and all software is installed properly. I have enabled disk use and can see that the iPod is recognized immediately because it mounts as an external drive but I wait and wait and wait and iTunes does not launch. When I launch iTunes manually, the iPod shows up in the source column within seconds. I only have Macs at home and a Sony Vaio laptop PC that I use for AutoCAD so I can only confirm this as a problem on my PC. I have MediaFour's MacDrive 6 installed and wondering if that is somehow conflicting. Any ideas on a fix for this?

My HP media center pc at home is doing exactly the same thing. My Dell at work will launch itunes automatically. My HP at home launched itunes the very first time I connected my ipod, but not since. I reloaded the software and again, itunes launched the first time, but not since. I wonder if this is a HP issue, or maybe a firewall issue (I use Zone Alarm)?
Have you found a solution to this issue since you first posted?

  • ITunes isn't launching automatically when I connect iPhone

I have the box checked off to launch automatically when I connect my iPhone, but it is not launching automatically.  I have to open up iTunes.

From the iTunes menu bar click iTunes / Preferences then select the Devices tab.
Deselect: Prevent iPods, iPhones, and iPads from syncing automatically
    Click OK.

Why IPhone is getting hot when downloading via wifi and how to turn off itunes 11.1 launch automatically when plugged in Iphone to the PC

My brother with the iPhone 4 suffers from that too.
    My iphone 5 doesnt however.
But to Stop Launch when your apple device is connected, 1. connect your iPhoneto your computer, 2.Go to the Summary Page, 3. uncheck the box "Open iTunes when this iPhone is connected" and then your good for that device.

  • ITunes Launches Automatically?

    Hi folks,
I've read a few postings about this but can't find a solution.
In the last couple of days, iTunes has begun to launch by itself. When I quit it, it launches again immediately, sometimes appearing in the doc as a semi-transparent icon (doubt whether that matters).
In the terminal, a "ps -alx" shows iTunes being launched by launchd. So I've looked in the various Library/LaunchItems and LaunchDaemons folders for anything obvious that might suggest a 3rd-party app opening iTunes for its own use...however nothing obvious jumps out.
I don't expect anyone to be able to tell me "that's why" given the lack of info, but I'm looking for suggestions how to sleuth the problem...e.g., if there's a way of listing the full process execution path. I'm UNIX literate and quite happy to wander there if someone has ideas.
    Thanks
    Tony.

I've had this problem a few times myself, and so I have a few things you might want to try:
    1) Try repairing disk permissions, go to App folder, then Utilities, then click repair disk permissions.
if that doesn't work, try turning off the itunes widget, or any related itunes widgets. (this is what I'm trying for myself because it just started happening again, and so far it hasn't popped up.) so go to your dashboard, click "plus," then click on "manage widgets" and lastly once the box pops into view find the itunes one and deselect it.
I hope this helps a bit.

  • How do i download itunes to a secondary drive on my computer?  My C drive is full and that's where itunes wants to automatically download

How can I download Itunes to a secondary drive on my computer?  My C drive is full but that's where ITunes wants to automatically download.  I can't figure out how to download it to a K drive.

    You do not.
iTunes like all programs is installed and only runs on the main drive (C) of the computer.
You can move the media to another drive.
    Close iTunes.
Move the ENTIRE iTunes folder from the default location to the desired location.
While holding the SHIFT key, launch iTunes.
When prompted to create a new library or locate existing, choose the option to locate existing.
Point iTunes to the new location.
Then go to Edit > Preferences > Advanced and change the location of the iTunes library there.
