Itunes is losing all my music!!!!

Can someone please help me.
I have spent a whole day loading all my music (4200 tracks) onto itunes and arranging them into play lists. I then loaded it onto my photo IPOD without a problem and it played fine on my compuer through itunes, for a couple of weeks. Then one day I opened itunes to find that all the music had gone and no play lists were shown. The music was still stored in MY MUSIC folder but had vanished from itunes, needless to say I have not reconnected my ipod or I would lose all the music on that as well.
I had to reload it all again and organise it all into playlists. Then a short time later it did it again!
I've just about had enough of it now.
Can anyone please offer any advice as to why this keeps happening and how I can prevent it happening again.
Thanks Mark

There could be several reasons for this. Without more info I would be speculating.
Looks like your 'iTunes Library.itl' database file is getting corrupted or deleted, forcing iTunes to create a new, blank one in its place.
The file is usually located in the 'iTunes' folder. For a start, make backup copies of this file each time that iTunes closes. Store them in a safe folder.
If the same thing happens again, then:
- Close iTunes
- Copy the 'last good version' of the ITL file into the 'iTunes' folder
- Open iTunes
This will (at least) allow you to quickly recover the Library data. Why it continues to disappear is difficult to diagnose without much more info.

  • Can I uninstall iTunes without losing all my music?

When trying to sync my iPod touch with my computer, I'm encountering an error in iTunes that tells me that the "Software for the iPhone is not installed..." and that I need to uninstall iTunes and then reinstall it.
That's all well and good, however both methods of backing up your music that are listed on Apple's support site have not worked for me. I can't get the CD's to burn and trying to copy the music over using the iPod itself was a total failure.
I've got iTunes on another computer and it recognizes the Touch just fine. It's the iTunes on the main computer with all the music that's giving me problems.
So, is there any way to uninstall, then reinstall, iTunes on my computer without losing the music?
Can I make a back up folder or something like that?

i had the same problem but it was fix
try to open the command prompt as administrator an write 'netsh winsock reset', sometimes don't work but lets try it

  • HT1386 My computer broke and I've since gotten a new one. I don't know how to sync my phone to iTunes without losing all my music.  How do I get my old iTunes back on a new computer?

I studied abroad and my computer broke during the trip.  I eventually got another computer after I came home.  I can no longer access iTunes on that computer, but I still have all my music/photos/apps on my iPhone.  But if I try to sync my phone to the newly downloaded iTunes on this new computer, it wants to erase everything.  Is there a way I can have all my music back on iTunes without losing it off my phone?  My phone is the only place I have it!

If it's all purchased content, it's really simple. If not, then not so simple.
    To download previous purchases: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519
If they aren't purchased from iTunes, then you are going to have to find them and download them onto your computer and back into your iTunes library.
You can turn off photo syncing, and import the ones from your phone onto your computer.

  • How do you sync your ipod to your itunes without loseing all your music?

Some how my itunes deleted all music (everything except my purchased music and I dont have my other music anywhere else only on my ipod.). Today I tryed to add a new Cd but i cant do that untill i get all my music from my ipod back into itunes by syncing it without losing everything. how do I do that i need to know ASAP

You need to put your ipod in manually manage mode. When you plug in your ipod the box that pops up is gonna state your ipod has been synced with another library do you want to erase and sync or transfer purchases or cancel. Hit cancel. Under devices in theleft hand side of itunes click the name of your ipod. That brings up a summary page, then select under options on that summary page manually manage ipod then click apply. You can then add content by dragging and dropping from itunes library to the name of your device. this allows syncing with multiple computers withuot losing content.

  • Is it possible to reinstall itunes without losing all the music we've already downloaded?

Our computer is telling us we need to reinstall itunes but we are hoping we can do that without losing the music we've already downloaded.

Reinstall iTunes normally; it won't affect the library. Back the library up anyway.

Here's what I do when I have iTunes problems and it works 9 out of 10 times.  I have Ccleaner; It's a wonderful tool to have.  If you don't have it, google it and install it, just the free version.  You'll see the list of all of your installed programs in there to unstall (among of a host of other things you could do with that program) but anyway, right click on Apple Software first to repair, when done then right click on Apple Application Support to repair, then when done with that, right click on iTunes to repair that and all should be well after that.  No uninstall should be necessary at all when you do all that.

There's some third party applications available for recovering content off an iPod, iPhone or iPad. The following article is pretty old (2008) so it would be best to reality-check the capabilities and availability of the various listed items prior to opting for a particular product:

  • How can i transfer my ipod to my new itunes without losing all music

my computer crashed and now all i have is my cousins and i need to know how to convert my music onto her new itunes, hopefully without losing all my music. if thats possible, so there is no way i can go back to my old itunes, her computer is the only itunes i will be able to use. how can i transferr my ipod touch to her computer without losing all data???

    Welcome to the discussion,
Create a new user in windows to keep your iTunes library separate and log in. Make sure your new computer is authorized in iTunes. Disable autosync in itunes, connect your ipod, right click on it in the device list and choose backup.
This will save data, pictures and settings to itunes. See what's included in this backup here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
Transfer your purchases the same way to copy all apps and bought media from the Store to your computer.
Set up at least one contact and event on your computer to be able the merge your calendars and contacts after your ipod got wiped during the first sync.
The rest of the data can be restored from the backup you made.
    Restoring: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.
There is 3rd party software out there, but not supported by Apple, see this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2013615&tstart=0

I recently replaced the hard drive in my computer.  I am afraid to download and reinstall itunes again because I worry about losing all the music I had on my iPod Nano.  Any suggestions for solutions?

    The dragging does not work:
    - Transfer iTunes purchases by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer
    - For other music you will need a third-party program like one of those discused here:
    Copy music
    - Connect the iPod to your compouter and make a backup by right clicking on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and select Back Up.
    - Restore the iPod from that backup
Nothe that the backup that iTunees makes does not include synced media like apps nd music.

You are talking about the menu bar of Itunes, right?
Yes. With iTunes open the menu bar is at the top of your screen.
where exactly is the Store/synck you iphone option?
After you authorize the computer connect your iPhone then follow the instructions here > iOS: How to transfer or sync content to your computer
When you are done transferring the data to the desktop, right or control click the iPhone under Devices left side of the iTunes window then click Back Up.
That way you will have a backup just in case you need to restore your iPhone.

my laptop died, how can I plug my ipod classic into a new pc with out losing all my music, over 10,000 songs?!
    Please help!

Was your iPod previously set up to Manually Manage (where you dragged/dropped the music) or was it set to auto sync (where it started sycning as soon as you plugged it in.)?
If it was set to Manual, you have no worries. Just continue on your way.
If it was set to Auto, you will have to transfer your purchases or redownload them from the iTunes store.
You're either going to have to get the other music back from the websites/CDs you got them from before or find an iPod ripping software program that will do it for you.
