Itunes is messing with my music files...

I have a very odd problem and I can't find anyone else on the internet with my problem.
Since updating to the newest version of iTunes (9.1.0.79), when putting music files into my iTunes, sometimes, at random, iTunes will copy the song incorrectly, and somewhere within a minute of playing the song, the song will return to the beginning, but the track will continue to say the same time it reverted to the beginning at. For example, if a song is 3:00 long, and the song returns to the beginning at :50 seconds, the song will continue at :51 seconds, but the audio will be at the beginning of the song and will play out till the end, even after the song reaches the end point on the slider.
This only happens when I drag the song into iTunes. If I play the song from the actual file in the iTunes directory, the song will also revert back to the beginning at the same spot as if it were played in the iTunes program. However, if I play the original file of the song (before it was dragged into iTunes), the song plays as normal. I have also tried to set iTunes to not copy the files into the itunes folder and allow me to manually manage the music folder, but once the file becomes intertwined with the iTunes program, often times at least one song becomes ruined.
Has anyone else experienced this? If so, please help! This is really getting on my nerves as I haven't been able to find a working solution!

I don't think that is the solution. If you check back, this is a perennial issue that does not have a solution. So far.
In synching up files there will be various conflicts and having another text based list to compare before and after results of the sync might have some ability to determine what was deleted.
Synching contacts is just as prone to random damage

itunes unable to read/locate music files as they have been converted to HP Connected Music files - can anyone assist ?

You need to associate your music files to iTunes instead of HP.
    Control Panel
    Programs
    Default Programs
    Set Associations
Double click on the relevant item and select iTunes from the list.

I can not select/see other outputs in my sound selector.

You have not indicated which OS or which music program you have so I have listed a program called Airfoil to try for both Windows and Mac - it may work for you

  • Itunes messing up my music files on my computer

I am sure that these questions are probably answered somewhere in this post so I apologize.
I have all my music on my hard drive in named folders for each artist, with named sub-folders with named songs for each CD/album.
    1. How do I keep iTunes from messing up these files on my hard drive?
    2. How can I import the folders into Itunes keeping the same setup as on the hard drive? When I import the folders, Itunes seperates some of the files into different places in the Itunes library
    3. How do i prevent iTunes from creating duplicate files of the songs/folders when importing them?
    4. When importing some folders, they seem to import but I cannot find them in the iTunes library?
    Thanks for any help provided!

  • ITunes Library: Keep 2 external HDDs in sync with same music files

I am trying to run iTunes with 2 external HDDs, keeping in sync with each other. One large one for my desktop and a second portable one to take away from home when I need to travel. What is the best way to do this?
What I have done so far is changing the location of my media library via iTunes advanced preferences to the other ext HDD and then consolidating my library, but I noticed that it tries to re-copy the entire library or at least part of it so I end up with music files like:
    Back in Black.mp3
    Back in Black 1.mp3
I'm sure this has been thought of before and an obvious solution should be available, but I've never been able to find one, so I'd be really glad if someone could tell me how to do this!

  • Since upgrading to version 8.1, iTunes "can't find original music files".

I've been building an extensive music file since the first iPod. It's about 110 GB large and for about three years I've stored it on an external drive with absolutely no problems. Now, within hours of upgrading to iTunes 8.1, every listed item on my iTunes library has an exclamation mark next to it and the message *"The song "whatever" could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?"* Of course I can show iTunes where the song is and then it will play it but I'm not gonna do that for 110 GB's worth of music! And yes, I've gone into iTunes preferences and told it again and again where the iTunes library is located but that doesn't work. Does anyone have a fix for this? And oh by the way, I will NEVER AGAIN let Software Update sway me into upgrading to a new version of iTunes until it's been up and running without bugs for at least three months!

Have you tried, importing the music into iTunes again? So delete the music from iTunes only not the system, & then import to see if it finds your musics?

  • I have itunes 12 and protected acc music files will to play- and computer wont authorize- 2 plus hour on phone w/ apple and no help.

Apple authorized retailer just transferred my data from "dead" late 2009 macbook pro to my new matchbook with retina. Now itunes12 will not play songs listed as protected acc files that i bought from iTunes. so i know what that term means but spent over two hours on he phone with apple trying to resolve with no luck but the rep swears they should play and the protected part is not the issue. Songs were purchased when i had a pc ( he said thats not the issue) and i had no issues with previous computer playing them.  Also when i try to play them now it prompts mo to authorize the computer and it will NOT let me . (not sure if its b.c they were bought when iTunes let you use a user name only and not needing @ .....email address.) And i dont have the password and cant get it though find my apple id b/c its not really a true  apple id- tried adding the @ and my email but tray did not work.
SO , 1.  Anyone else have this issue or suggestions on what to do?
         2. was told i need to find old password to authorize computer but cant , as i said , find it though apple id site.....so have no clue whist to do .... already spent 20.00 repurchasing some out of frustration.
This came to my attention  when i tried to since my phone and was told id loose 60 songs b/c computer not authorized- so i stopped and they play in the phone   then tied to sync iPod and same issue but by accident pressed wrong key and lost songs off iPod that would play on that. so now they are on my purchased list and can see they were purchased with just a same / no address when i fog to about file.....any suggestions. help...please ...was already in the phone with someone various times for total of over 4 - 6 hours trying to fix multiple apple id issue so i could at least back up my phone which is dying so when i get new one if anything goes wrong i have my picts. and music backed up to computer.
3.last issue -  was told by one person that now i have to either do family share b/c of songs bought with different id's(at that point dint know about first issue but knew i had used @me and @ mac by accident to buy songs and was told they now would not play if i was not signed in with the id it was purchased with?? is that true?
b/c i have play list for my car that have songs from both ids .....so hen said that would be an issue ? its not now on my phone (old 3GS) they all play.
any help one anything would be so appreciated! thanks- sorry for so may issues in one question. del free to ask more questions as what I've tried b/c i feel I've done  everything they they told me on phone multiple times and cant get any answers. or get stuck back in loop of need to authorize computer and cant and dante get apple id from forgot password b/c it only gets to second step and then says info is not correct?

OK, I finally got it - do the following:
    1. Connect Pre to your computer in USB mode.
    2. Open search feature and search for "ipod controls" file in the Pre drive (on my computer this is drive E
    3. On the search feature, go to advanced tab and tell it to search for hidden files.
    4. It should find ipod controls.
    5. DELETE, DELETE, DELETE
Keep in mind that this will delete all previously uploaded music installed by using *ughhh* itunes.  I love it.  Now I just drag and drop all music to my Pre drive.  Hope this helps.  It is nice to have a fresh start without having to wipe the entire phone.  Good luck out there.
This worked brilliantly!!! Thank you so much!! Pre is set......only issue now is that fact that half my music in iTunes is in a Protected AAC file format that the Pre can't play

  • ITunes won't play my music files now

When I open up iTunes, it will no longer play any of the music files in my library. When I click on any song in my library, the file appears in the area at the top of the window where the song-in-play usually appears. However, it does not start; the little diamond does not progress through the song. The iPod however plays everything fine. I have a PC with Windows XP and have been told that it could be my drivers. I am lost as to what I need to do here. Can anyone please help?
    Forever grateful for any help,
    Greg

Well anything is better than version 7. It was totally unusable.
7.1 is an improvement but songs cut out for me. The dialio thingy shows that it's still playing, just no sound. I pause it and restart, the song continues. Sometimes this will happen three times in a row then not for several minutes. There also seems to be a clicking sound every now and then as well.
Yes I've tried switching it between 24 and 16 bit, no difference.
It's a shame as I really enjoy using itunes. I think Apple should stop using work experience kids to program their windows products. I was considering buying an Apple until this itunes debacle.

  • Is there a way to export all of my music from my hard drive to an external drive, connected to my computer and have iTunes still work with the music library located on the external drive?

I do not have enough room on my hard drive for all of my music collection and want to export the music files to my external 300GB hard drive rather than purchase and configure a new, larger hard drive for my computer.  Can I export all of my music library to the external drive and configure iTunes to always store music there, and operate seemlessly with the music library on the external drive?

  • ITUNES DOES NOT PLAY ALL MUSIC FILES AFTER DATA RECOVERY

My external Iomega Firewire 160gig HD, all of a sudden, changed the drive letter from H to F with unknown format.
I recovered music files ( Using Stellar Phoenix FAT)and files/folders are in iTunes but only 20-30 play (out of over 6,000)
I can play CD and rip new music in iTunes, though.
Any suggestions how to get my music play all library files??
    Dell   Windows XP   Media center

    WiseBird,
There might be several causes for that kind of erratic behaviour:
1st use Disk Utility to check your internal disk as well as the external one.
2nd Your Library database might be damaged
    - Quit iTunes
    - Goto ./Users/YourUserName/Music/iTunes
There will 2 files named something "Library" - move them to your desktop
    - Launch iTunes
As you're now starting from scratch, iTunes will offer to search for audio tracks - Don't let it.
    - Your iTunes should be "clean"
    - in iTunes Preferences - Advanced - General:
Point the Music Folder Location to the appropriate folder on your ext hd
Disable "Copy Files to iTunes music folder....."
    - Quit Preferences
    - From iTunes Menu - File choose "Add to library..." + select that folder on your ext hd that contains all your tracks.
    - All your tracks should be back by now in iTunes Library.
    - To get your playlists back: From iTunes Menu - File choose "Import" and open that .xml file that you moved to your desktop (might work but need not).

  • ITunes Match for the iMac - Music Files on an iPod?

I subscribe to iTunes Match and have an iPod Classic 160GB. Is it possible to use iTunes Match for my entire music library on my iMac & iPhone BUT put the actual song files on my iPod Classic? The problem is my music library is large, won't fit on my iMac Flash hard drive and iTunes Match is perfect. But I can't figure out how to get those songs onto my iPod Classic because iTunes Match is enabled on iTunes.
I would like to keep my iTunes library on the iMac using Match and have the physical songs be on the iPod Classic.
I tested this by putting 1 album on the iMac hd. Then syncing the iPod. Then deleting it from iTunes (the cloud icon came back so Match is doing it's thing and I deleted the physical song files). Sync'd again but this time I checked Manually Manage Music & Videos in the iTunes iPod Settings window before hand, thinking that would tell iTunes to not worry that the 1 Who album wasn't physically on my h/d anymore. But it didn't work. It removed the that album from the iPod Classic.
Is this possible and I don't have the correct settings in iTunes or on the iPod? Or is this a limitation of using iTunes Match?

Hey thanks, Jim... Actually I do have a back up of my entire library on an external drive. Is the process just dragging the songs and albums from the Finder (from the external drive backup) onto the iPod when I plug it in to iTunes and they copy over? Is it possible to create new or update existing Playlists with this method? But is key is to never sync the iPod with iTunes or do I need to check Manually Manage Music & Videos?
Or am I looking at this completely wrong. lol

  • ITunes can't find my music files

It appears all my songs have lost the path to their music files. The error message says "cannot find the original file do you want to locate it?" When I look in the Music folder they appear in the artist's folder but still will not play. Any suggestions?

I found a solution to this on a different thread from 2005 (but it still applies) - I promised myself that, if it worked, I would spread the news... the joy. It worked! (here is the link - http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7709257#7709257) I copied the note, too (the only difference is that the "Copy Files to iTunes Music Folder selection is now in Preferences> Advanced):
It's possible that not all of the songs in your previous iTunes library were stored in your default iTunes Music folder. At this point, you should probably just double-check to make sure your default iTunes Music folder is set correctly (to the library on the new HD) and then go to iTunes > Preferences > General and make sure the option Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library is deselected. Then select all the songs in iTunes, and press Delete. Follow the prompts to remove the songs from your iTunes library, but NOT to remove them from your computer. Then, with a Finder window open, select everything in the folder iTunes Music on your new HD and drag and drop it onto the iTunes player window.
Please read the above instructions carefully, then read them again even more carefully, before proceeding.
It's a little scary, but as long as you make sure that you do not move the files to the trash on the second prompt you'll be fine. You can just drag you iTunes Music Folder into the player window and all of you sub-folders will copy back into iTunes.
