ITunes is not letting me update to version 5.0.1?

Yesterday I tried downloading an app from my iPhone 4 and it said that it requires iOS 4.3. I clicked the update button in iTunes (on my computer) and waited for a couple of minutes. After it was done, a messaged appeared on the screen and said, "There was a problem downloading the software for the iphone. The network connection timed out". I did some searching about this and it has something to do with my firewall. I managed to disable Kaspersky and updated my iPhone again. No joy

  • ITunes will not let me update to iOS 5.1.1 without deleting all my media. How can I fix this?

When I tried to update from my PC this came up:
"Updating to iOS 5.1.1 will delete all of the apps and
media, including iTunes Store purchases, on your
iPad. To preserve your content, apply this update on
the computer where you sync your apps, music, videos,
      and photos."
I don't understand because this is the only computer I use iTunes for my ipad.
    Help please!

If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect to your computer & click on the "Update your device using iTunes".
Tip - You may need to disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily.  Then download and install the iOS update. After you update to iOS 5.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).

  • New iTunes won't let me update iPod version 4.2

It's rediclious! It says "backing up iPod" for 6 HOURS or more and never goes anywhere. Is this a glitch?? it definitly needs fixing. All the stuff i'm using requires the update and it won't work. Any advice?

Ya, Clinton's suggestion was it - i installed both packages manually, and now can open iphoto and my mac says its at 10.8.2.
Whether future automatic OS updates will work or not is definitely a concern, but for now i'm happy
Thanks for your help! Clinton I'd love to give you more points but accidentially clicked the "helped" instead of "solved"...  if i can figure out how to reverse that I will.

  • I just recently purchased an iphone 5c.  itunes is not letting me update.

Having trouble updating apps on my 5c.  When I connect to  my mac and try to update I get a message saying not available for this ID because it
was bought by another user or item was refunded or cancelled.

Contact the Apple store and ask them.
Officially Apple does not sell parts.

  • Problems with credit card or removed credit number and itunes doesn't let you update/download already purchased items - what is that about?!

I took my credit card number off b/c I was having problems with it and I was waiting for a new card , and itunes would not let me update and already purchased apps and TV seasons! What is that all about?!

I just called the 1-800-My-Apple and the said there is really nothing they can do about it. They said I had an outstanding payment of $8.54 (or something like that), I said I know b/c of the problem I am having with my bank, but NO previous completed purchases should have anything to do with this outstanding payment . It should not keep me from being able to update or download previously completely paid apps, TV Shows, or movies - they are mine, and I paid for them. I submitted a complaint.. that just isn't right!

  • I updated to a newer itunes version and now itunes will not let me play a bunch of my music.  ***? anyone know what the deal is with that?

I  updated to a newer itunes version and now itunes will not let me play a bunch of my music.  ***? anyone know what the deal is with that?

How could anyone possibly know as you've provided no details.
What happens when trying to play the media in question?
    Any errors?
Is there an ! to the left of the media?  If so, this means iTunes is unable to locate the media file.

I suspect you have a 2G iPod. Those can only go to iOS 4.2.1.

If You Are Locked Out Or Have Forgotten Your Passcode or Just Need to Restore Your Device

      2. iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Wrong passcode results in red disabled screen
      3. iOS- Understanding passcodes
If you have forgotten your Restrictions code, then follow the instructions
below but DO NOT restore any previous backup. If you do then you will
simply be restoring the old Restrictions code you have forgotten. This
same warning applies if you need to restore a clean system.
A Complete Guide to Restore or Recover Your iDevice (if You Forget Your Passcode)
If you need to restore your device or ff you cannot remember the passcode, then you will need to restore your device using the computer with which you last synced it. This allows you to reset your passcode and re-sync the data from the device (or restore from a backup). If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present. Refer to Updating and restoring iPhone, iPad and iPod touch software.
Try restoring the iOS device if backing up and erasing all content and settings doesn't resolve the issue. Using iTunes to restore iOS devices is part of standard isolation troubleshooting. Restoring your device will delete all data and content, including songs, videos, contacts, photos, and calendar information, and will restore all settings to their factory condition.
Before restoring your iOS device, Apple recommends that you either sync with iTunes to transfer any purchases you have made, or back up new data (data acquired after your last sync). If you have movie rentals on the device, see iTunes Store movie rental usage rights in the United States before restoring.
Follow these steps to restore your device:
         1. Verify that you are using the latest version of iTunes before attempting to update.
         2. Connect your device to your computer.
         3. Select your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch when it appears in iTunes under Devices.
         4. Select the Summary tab.
         5. Select the Restore option.
         6. When prompted to back up your settings before restoring, select the Back Up
option (see in the image below). If you have just backed up the device, it is not
             necessary to create another.
         7. Select the Restore option when iTunes prompts you (as long as you've backed up,
you should not have to worry about restoring your iOS device).
         8. When the restore process has completed, the device restarts and displays the Apple
             logo while starting up:
After a restore, the iOS device displays the "Connect to iTunes" screen. For updating
to iOS 5 or later, follow the steps in the iOS Setup Assistant. For earlier versions of
iOS, keep your device connected until the "Connect to iTunes" screen goes away or
              you see "iPhone is activated."
         9. The final step is to restore your device from a previous backup. If you do not have a
backup to restore, then restore as New.
If you are restoring to fix a forgotten Restrictions Code or as a New device, then skip Step 9 and restore as New.

Windows 7 will not let me update the driver for my iphone 4s so I can see it in iTunes. Any suggestions?

You turned off all firewall and antivirus ? You could try downloading the update via a browser - what device are your trying to download the update for ? If it's an iPhone 4 :
    GSM / sim card model
    CDMA model
Then in iTunes press and hold the shift key on Windows when clicking the Check For Updates button which should let you navigate to the downloaded file

  • My MacBook Pro has Mac OSX 10.5.8 and will not let me update any further. Why?

I have a MacBook Pro that I purchased in 2009 (It doesn't have a SD card slot, but is an aluminum body). Right now it's using Mac OS X 10.5.8 and will not let me update any further, which means that I cannot install any new versions of iTunes or some other programs. How can I fix this?

You can't upgrade beyond 10.5.8, that is the final step for Leopard.
You can purchase Snow Leopard (10.6.x) from Apple (but you should have 2G of Ram installed, and sufficient hard drive space). Your Mac is fully capable of running Snow Leopard and will probably already meet the specs I mentioned.

  • I have a older MacBook I upgraded memory two 3 gb from its original two but it still will not let me update from snow leopard to maverick I have plenty of available ram does anyone know why

I believe it is running an older version of maverick it is 10.6.8 but it will not let me update any further . I added 3gb of ram to upgrade from the original 2gb it came with but still no updates are being allowed Does anyone have any idea why this is ? I am sure the criteria for the upgrade is available so I don't know why I can not up date it?

    10.6.8 is Snow Leopard.
Run Software Update to download and install the latest updates for Snow Leopard to bring it up to 10.6.8, or download the combo update from here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399
Check via Software Update whether any further updates are required, particularly to iTunes (you will need the latest version in order to synch with mobile devices).
You should now see the App Store icon in iTunes, and you now need to set up your account:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4479
You can now upgrade to Mavericks OS 10.9 for free IF you have one of the following Macs, with not less than 2GB of RAM, and at least 8GB of available space on your hard drive:
    iMac (Mid-2007 or later)
MacBook (13-inch Aluminum, Late 2008), (13-inch, Early 2009 or later)
    MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid-2009 or later), (15-inch, Mid/Late 2007 or later), (17-inch, Late 2007 or later)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or later)
Mac Mini (Early 2009 or later)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or later)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
    iCloud system requirements:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4759
If you cannot run Mavericks you can purchase the code to use to download Lion from the App Store (Lion requires an Intel-based Mac with a Core 2 Duo, i3, i5, i7 or Xeon processor and 2GB of RAM, running the latest version of Snow Leopard):
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/D6106Z/A/os-x-lion
    or Mountain Lion:
