ITunes is not updating for many months, stuck on v12.0.0.140

Hello,
For many months now, when I start iTunes it tells me there is an update. I click the Download iTunes button. The App Store then opens, but there are never any iTunes update listed in there for me to download and install.
So I am still on 12.0.0.140, and iTunes indicates there is an update to 12.1.2
What should I do?
Thank you

Oh, never mind. Numerous times I looked for a direct download of iTunes, and always ended up back on App Store. Just now I found someone posted this link, and I have 12.1.2 download as I type this. I suspect that means this problem is finally solved.
http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
I have no idea why I was unable to find that link before when looking through apple.com — it's pretty clear and obvious. Usual story... spent hours looking for answer to issue. Resort to finally posting a question. Voila... next moment the answer appears where previously none was found.

  • Is there some way to instruct iTunes to not check for updates of one of my apps?

2nd gen ipod touch running 4.2.1 (which is the highest availble for that generation).
I have a free weather app that just came out with an update. This new version requires at least 4.3.
Since I have the older version of the app, iTunes notifies me of the update, which is not going to work on my ipod. (Actually I downloaded it anyway just to confirm that it wouldn't work, and sure enough, it didn't even want to start).
So now that I have deleted that version and reloaded the old one, will I be stuck with that number 1 next to the Apps icon for ever more? Is there some way I can instruct iTunes to not check for updates of that app? Or is there some other solution that isn't apparent to me?

You get all the new iWork suite (Pages 5, Numbers 3 & Keynote 6) free with your Mac purchase. You just need to go to the App Store and sign in with your Apple I.D.
We warn against relying on the new iWork Apps, they really are just public betas and we are getting a number of users here with unopenable files. Bad news if this is your Masters.
iWork '09 can be purchased as a Boxed DVD set from Amazon US$27, or online.
It is much more usable and safer (not totally).
LibreOffice [free] does not have as polished a UI but is actively supported, and uses open file formats as well as MsOffice formats. It also has the advantage of opening/saving virtually every known format on the planet (wish it would do Pages!) and has a usable but not briliant intgrated database.

  • ITunes would not update Ipad soft, stating I don't have enogh space onthe PC for files, even though I just completely backed up Ipad through Itunes on the same PC. Seems like Itunes is disconected from itself.

Itunes would  not update my Ipad soft citing insuficient space on PC to back up Ipad files. Even though I just baked up Ipad through Itunes on the very same PC.
It seems that Itunes is disconected from itself and is not able to track processes within itself for the same device in the same session. Any solutions?

  • HT1229 itunes will not update ipod cache for iPhoto 11

My itunes does not update my iphone 4s to the latest pictures loaded onto iphoto 11, no updates available. Any clues as to what is wrong, could Pixelmator be the problem?

Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Look there for the iPod Photo Cache.
Trash it. Start iPhoto and try sync again.

  • ITunes will not update because 'iPod Service' could not be downloaded.

For many months now I have been trying to update my iTunes on my computer yet whenever the update is being downloaded I recieve an error message that tells me to go to the Tools menu and to download it from there. I do this and try to install the software again but whenever iTunes is in the process of being downloaded I get the message "Service 'iPod Service' (iPod Service) could not be installed. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to install system services." But the thing is I am the administrator on this computer and I get this message everytime. To update I have been uninstalling iTunes and reinstalling it. What can I do to fix this?

To update I have been uninstalling iTunes and reinstalling it.
Doublechecking. Have you tried a complete uninstall of both iTunes and all the other related software components and then a reinstall? If not, try the instructions from the following document:

  • ITunes is not updating my podcast description

    Hello community,
I'm the admin for the Open Society Foundations podcast feed, and iTunes has not updated the podcast description or image and I can't figure out why not.  Any advice or assistance appreciated.  This is the feed with the current description: http://feeds.feedburner.com/OpenSocietyInstitutePodcast.  iTunes is updating all episodes, it's just not updating the description, which is in the xml file as:
<itunes:summary>The Open Society Foundations work to build vibrant and tolerant democracies whose governments are accountable to their citizens. To achieve this mission, the Foundations seek to shape public policies that assure greater fairness in political, legal, and economic systems and safeguard fundamental rights. On a local level, the Open Society Foundations implement a range of initiatives to advance justice, education, public health, and independent media. At the same time, we build alliances across borders and continents on issues such as corruption and freedom of information. The Foundations place a high priority on protecting and improving the lives of people in marginalized communities.</itunes:summary>

I've read through other threads here and I believe I've confirmed that iTunes is pointing to the correct feed, and that I'm using the right tags.  But, clearly I'm doing something wrong -- just can't figure out what.
    Many thanks!

Although on subscribing iTunes is showing the contents of the 'description' tag (I thought it wasn't before. but I could be wrong) the 'itunes:subtitle' and 'itunes:summary' tags are still empty. If you've made the changes, have you uploaded the changed feed?
When you add a new episode to your feed and upload it, it appears immediately for subscribers because their iTunes application reads the feed directly and the Store is not involved.
However because of the huge number of podcasts in the Store (thousands) the Store caches the feed and checks it for updates periodically. For this reason it usually takes 1-2 days for new episodes to appear in the Store: sometimes it can be less, and occasionally the whole process seems to get stuck and it can take several days.
You mention 'new episodes' but there is only one episode in the feed.

  • Itunes will not update to a newer version.

Itunes will not update to a newer version. The error received sates an older version could not be removed.

The error is specifically an older version of Itunes could not be removed.
Many thanks, alex. We'll first try the iTunes variation of my standard instructions, then.
Unfortunately, this sort of trouble has gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try installing iTunes again. Does the install go through properly now?
(If you do find a clean download site for the correct version of CleanUp, please don't tell me where it is. Without wishing to sound paranoid (although I grant it does sound paranoid), there is a non-zero chance that posting links to download locations for the utility here at Discussions leads to that download location being shut down.)

I didn't used my iPad 2 for many months. Last week when I tried to use it, it wasn't charged. Then I put it on charging and again didn't used it for a week. Yesterday, When I tried to use it again it's saying that it is disabled for 22 million mins. I treid to restore it by connecting to iTunes but it's not restoring. Kindly Help.

Thanks for that. Much more constructive than the last comment. It's only the restriction code I can't recall, not the access passcode. So I can currently access the device, just not age restricted content. Does that's make a difference? I also wondered if anyone knew how many attempts you get to try to get it right. Now tried 21 times and so far nothing bad has happened but I am concerned I'll eventually be completely locked out of the device. That doesn't seem in the spirit of things though. Surely it's foreseeable that a child could repeatedly try to guess the code so I can't see that it would be right to lock the device down completely in that circumstance, particularly if the access code is being typed in correctly every time.
    Thanks

You may have to do this several times.
Saw this solution on another post about an iPad in a school environment. Might work on your iPad so you won't lose everything.

‘iPad is disabled’ fix without resetting using iTunes
Today I met my match with an iPad that had a passcode entered too many times, resulting in it displaying the message ‘iPad is disabled – Connect to iTunes’. This was a student iPad and since they use Notability for most of their work there was a chance that her files were not all backed up to the cloud. I really wanted to just re-activate the iPad instead of totally resetting it back to our default image.
I reached out to my PLN on Twitter and had some help from a few people through retweets and a couple of clarification tweets. I love that so many are willing to help out so quickly. Through this I also learned that I look like Lt. Riker from Star Trek (thanks @FillineMachine).
Through some trial and error (and a little sheer luck), I was able to reactivate the iPad without loosing any data. Note, this will only work on the computer it last synced with. Here’s how:
    1. Configurator is useless in reactivating a locked iPad. You will only be able to completely reformat the iPad using Configurator. If that’s ok with you, go for it – otherwise don’t waste your time trying to figure it out.
    2. Open iTunes with the iPad disconnected.
    3. Connect the iPad to the computer and wait for it to show up in the devices section in iTunes.
    4. Click on the iPad name when it appears and you will be given the option to restore a backup or setup as a new iPad (since it is locked).
    5. Click ‘Setup as new iPad’ and then click restore.
    6. The iPad will start backing up before it does the full restore and sync. CANCEL THE BACKUP IMMEDIATELY. You do this by clicking the small x in the status window in iTunes.
    7. When the backup cancels, it immediately starts syncing – cancel this as well using the same small x in the iTunes status window.
    8. The first stage in the restore process unlocks the iPad, you are basically just canceling out the restore process as soon as it reactivates the iPad.
If done correctly, you will experience no data loss and the result will be a reactivated iPad. I have now tried this with about 5 iPads that were locked identically by students and each time it worked like a charm.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Try it and good luck. You have nothing more to lose if it doesn't work for you.
     Cheers, Tom
