Itunes is not working on my computer.

Itunes is not working on my computer. it loads up and then says it has encountered a problem and to check here for solutions. The solutions I am offered are to re download or repair it. I have tried both plenty of times and it keeps happening. I think maybe I have some programmes on my comp that interferes with it or something similar. Has anyone encountered this before? Does anyone have any ideas.
Thanks
James

Just in case, let's first try updating your QuickTime Player to the most recent version. Does that clear up the iTunes launch errors?

  • ITunes will not work with my computer.  iMac G3 processor, OS 10.4.11

Original message posted about a week ago - I have an iMac, OS is 10.4.11. I just updated my Quicktime software to 7.5, I also updated my iTunes to 8.2.1 (I think, it is definitely higher than 8.0). When I would open up iTunes. I would get this message. (We could not complete your iTunes Store request. The iTunes Store is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later). This was happening before I did the current downloads. I had no trouble about 3-4 weeks ago. I was able to get into the iTunes store and download song. I am pretty annoyed to say the least. Apple makes it so difficult to get information, unless you do endless searches. Trying to contact customer service is a whole other nightmare. They offer this software for free, yet they want you to pay for everything. As you can imagine, I am not happy and venting is helping. So I am hoping there are some other people out there with similar problems who can help. Nothing has been changed or altered on my computer. I have no problem connecting to the internet. No passwords or ID's have been changed. As mentioned I updated my software to the highest, most current software available that my operating system can handle. So if anyone out there knows what is going on, or can help. Please advise. Thanks, from a very frustrated apple user! You can email me direct too <[email protected]>
Updated message 12/9/10 - I updated my iTunes version to 9.2.1. Now my iTunes will not open. When I do try to open it, It says that this program will only work with G4, and G5 processors. I don't know what to do. I can't afford a new computer right now. Any suggestions???? PLEASE HELP!!I am so frustrated!!! Thanks for your help.

OK - to answer my own question, Apple recommend 8.2.1, but you can install 9.1.1 and it will run on a G3. Very slowly. Looks like this is the only option. Get it here: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1036. You need OSX 10.4.11 or later though....

  • Itunes 8 not working on my computer

I previously had itunes version 7.7 whatever on my computer, I recently opened it and I only have 27 songs showing in the playlist, but that's about 1% of the songs I have in there. So I decided to uninstall itunes and re-download it. I re-downloaded it to my flash drive last night and then copied it to the computer. Now everytime I double click on itunes it doesn't come up and then it asks if I want to send an error to itunes, I did.
It does the same thing with quicktime.
Also, I bought the quicktime pro key to be able to convert my videos to play on my ipod, but I can't use it because I can't get into quicktime.
Please help me, I am computer literate however, I am a novice at troubleshooting.

Place it in recovery mode by:
Placing your device into recovery mode
Follow these steps to place your iOS device into recovery mode. If your iOS device is already in recovery mode, you can proceed immediately to step 6.
Disconnect the USB cable from the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off, release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
Note: If you see the screen pictured below, let the device charge for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has some charge, and then start with step 2 again.
Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears you can release the Home button:
If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the following "recovery mode" alert:
Use iTunes to restore the device.
If you don't see the "Connect to iTunes" screen, try these steps again. If you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen but the device does not appear in iTunes

  • Itunes 8.02.2 does not work on my computer

    Hi,
*I have a dell computer runing xp sp3 pro verison. I installed Itunes 8.02.2 then I restart my computer Itunes does not work for me at all. I have no malware or spyware on my computer. I have tried the tips on apple web site to make itunes start up and work. So I remove 8.02.2 itunes from my computer. Then I installed 8.01.11 the old version of Itunes and it works just fine on my computer. I think that 8.02.2 has a lot of bugs in it. Also, I have a dell notebook with xp sp3 home and the same problem happends to my with version 8.02.2. I got itunes to work on my notebook buy installing 8.01.11. I hope people tell apple that there are some problems with 8.02.2.*
I hope apple comes out with a new version of itunes that don't have problems like 8.02.2
    *Thanks alot*

I followed the instructions posted in http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1737 and dont work.
    1) My iPhone battery is 100%.
    2) My PC is a notebook, and only have USB ports at the keyboard.
    3) & 4) I turned off/on several times the PC and the iPhone.
    5) Uninstall (reboot pc) and reinstall iTunes.
Where can I download a previous version of iTunes?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Ask your question.please help itunes will not launch on my computer the icon on desktop has changed to a white folder no error message appears and it appears but then disappears in task manager when the programme will not open quick time is working

please help i need to fix my itunes it will not launch on my computer . no error message appears it simply will not run. the icon on desktop has changed to a white folder and it still appears in programmes in start menu but will not open. it appears in task manager but disappears when the programme will not open

You music etc should not be affected by problems with the iTunes program, nevertheless it is always a good idea to backup your data.
You haven't said if there was any error message when you tried to start iTunes. If  there was one please give it in full.
Also check to see if QuickTime works, iTunes can not work without it. If QuickTime doesn't work, it has to be fixed before worrying about iTunes.
Then restart your PC and open your Task manger and select the Processes tab.
Try to start iTunes, does iTunes.exe appear on the processes tab? If so does it disappear again or remain although the programs does not open?

Warning to iPhone users.  Do not start the update of the iPhone software using iTunes.
Nonsense, and very misleading advice.  I've updated iPhone 3G, 3Gs,and 4  through itunes many times, never had a problem once, not with one single update in nearly 5 years of iPhones.  Of course, I've never jailbroken my phones either.  Hack your phone and have update problems?  I've got news for you, the problems are not a result of iTunes or Apple's updates.

Dude you have a jailbroken phone as stated in your first post, no need to do a second post.
As per the forum term of service you can't get help here.  Use google.
that's the downfall of jailbreaking your phone.

Hi there, I have a problem with my iPod Classic (from 2009). Everytime I connect it to my computer (Windows), iTunes does not work anymore. Music is automatically deleted on my iPod. Any suggestions please?

Thanks, for info, iPod Classic is a slower machine compared the Nano, unfortunately, if you read these discussions, majority of the freezes involved iTunes 10. Although if might be just slow and some impatient user just disconnect the iPod ands cause more problems. ( Yes I also did that but safely by doing a iPod Hard Reset, before disconnecting).
Here is the Apple support article that may help you.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1717
or my usual solution for Windows Users.
Antivirus has a tendency to freeze iTunes sync Operation with iPod Classic, causing a timeout, which corrupt your iPod filesystem, so when iTunes can't read the iPod, it is pointing to this problem. Other causes is when your iPod hardisk is dying, or your battery is dying causing hardisk crashes.
    My suggestion.
Connect your iPod to the PC and run chkdsk, to fix any iPod diskerror, then disconnect it, after chkdsk complete.
Disconnect your PC from Internet. (just to make sure no nasties creep into your system while you syncing.
    Stop the Antivirus program
Connect your iPod to the PC, using a high speed USB 2.0 port at the back of your PC, do not use any USB Hub.
When iTunes Open up, Restore your iPod please, this is for iTunes to map correctly, to fix the corrupted filesystem.
When Restore complete, eject the iPod and reconnect again.
Sync your ipod, preferably manually Manage in small batches and disconnect after every batch, to check that all is well.
When all sync is complete, and iPod disconnected, start back your Antivirus and connect back the Internet.
    Good Luck!
