  • ITunes folder on a locked disk or I do not have permissions to write ???

I have managed and updated iTunes with iPods and since more recently an iPhone without this problem : since a few days, I can no longer launch iTunes! Forget my $1000 music purchases, backing up or syncing my iPhone...
I checked older posts about similar issues and tried what I found : see if the Library (.itl) files was read-only: thery're not. Neither in C:, nor in the drive where I hold all my media. Went to Admin and made sure every user has *full control* with iTunes. Nothing works.
This is the latest (9) version of iTunes. Been there for a few weeks without a glitch, then this problem appeared suddently.
    Any idea ?
    Thanks
    Rob

It doesn't seem to be the Apple way for security, since it worked fine until something got changed a few days ago. What happened on your PC a few days ago? Something in the background, any update to windows or security software? Something changed- it might be tricky finding out exactly what it was. I hope it's not some kind of malware!
+weird owner name (lots of digits, have no idea...)+
This isn't right. What is that owner name? Perhaps a google would shed some light on it.
I agree, leaving UAC off permanently is not the answer. The majority of users running itunes don't have to do this. However, it was a good troubleshooting step to narrow things down. iTunes can't run because of some security setting.
I'd turn off security software, turn off UAC, and do a repair install of itunes. That might clear things up, if you don't know what's different on your PC from a few days ago. Make a copy of that itl file and save it to a USB stick or at least your desktop. The repair shouldn't harm anything, but I always backup that file when doing anything with an itunes install. Then turn UAC and your security software back on.
edit - did you see polydorus' post? You might need to set your discussions view to threaded mode.

  • I get this message... "the folder itunes is on a locked disk or you do not have write permissions to this fold, I get this message... "the folder itunes is on a locked disk or you do not have write permissions to this fold

My MacBook was stolen, and after a find my iphone erase instruction I got the erase started message, suppose all info on that computer was vanished.
I then bought a new MacBookPro. I has a TimeMachine back up but due to battery cutoff it was blocked and the time machine could not be accessed. I could however copy to my new computer the information.
question 1 - How do I initiate on my new computer using info that I have copied already on the hard drive to make it transfer as though it was from another computer...?
question 2 - When I try to open itunes i get the message "the folder itunes is on a locked disk or you do not have write accessability to the folder...
I already downloaded the new itunes but even after that the message continues to appear.... what can I do to make itunes work back with my previous library...?

Perhaps you should ask this question in the MAC forum. I have asked the administrators to move your post to a more appropriate forum.

I am trying to open iTunes on my mac. But a box pops up saying "The folder iTunes is on a locked disk or you do not have write permissions for this folder". Anyone know what that means? I've had my computer 2 years and its never had a problem opening it

I've already right-clicked on the application, clicked "get info", and changed it so all people listed in the "Sharing & Permissions" section have the "read & write" privilage.
The error message is referring to your iTunes library, not your iTunes application.
You need to check and fix the permissions of the iTunes folder in your iTunes library. This is by default located in your "Music" folder.
Select the folder Music > iTunes  in the Finder, right click on it or Ctrl Click and click "Get Info". At the bottom of the contextual window thatwill  pop up, disclose the Sharing and Permissions brick, change your status from Read only to Read & Write. You may need to click the padlock icon to make changes.

  • After upgrading to the latest version of itune, I get this message when trying to open itunes: "The I'tunes Library File is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have permission to write for this file.

After importing the latest version of itune, I now get this message:  "The I-tunes library file is locked, on a locked disk , or you do not have permission to write for this file.  How do I resolve this?

check if you have read & write permissions for your music folder. in the finder, right-click on it and get info. unlock the little padlock (you may have to enter your admin password) and change the permission settings if necessary. next, click on the little gear-shaped icon and apply to enclosed items like so
the important part is to apply to enclosed items !
also, even if it seems unrelated, try the steps in this support article: iTunes: Missing folder or incorrect permissions may prevent authorization

Right-click on your main iTunes folder and click Properties, then go to the Security tab and click Advanced. If necessary grant your account and SYSTEM full control of this folder, subfolders and files, then tick the option to replace permissions on child objects which will repair permissions throughout the library. This is the XP dialog but Windows 7 shouldn't be too different.
If it won't let you change the permissions use the Owner tab to take ownneship from an account with administror privileges.

  • "The folder "iTunes" is on a locked disk or you do not have write permissio

"The folder "iTunes" is on a locked disk or you do not have write permissions for this folder." Thats the error I have been getting recently. So I go on my pc after like 3 days of not using it, and all of a sudden I am getting the error in my title when I open itunes. I tried re installing- nothing. I googled this problem and tried EVERYTHING they said... making it not read only, allowing everyone to have permission... etc... Can someone please help! I am running windows 7 64bit. thank you!

On the permission thing, you say you have done this, but just to double check, the account you are using needs to have full control of the iTunes folder.

If you account does have full control of the iTunes folder, try a shift key start.
Hold down the shift key and start iTunes, keep holding the shift key until you are prompted to choose a library.
Navigate to your iTunes folder and choose iTunes Library.itl.

  • The folder "ITunes" is on a locked disk or you do not have write permission

I just tried transferring all my songs from my PC to my new MacBook. I followed all the directions on the Apple website, but now when I try to open ITunes on my Mac a window pops up telling me..."The folder ITunes is on a locked disk or you do not have write permissions for this folder." I also accidentally deleted all my music from my old computer so I don't know what to do. I think all my music is on my new computer, but I don't know how to access it.

I just went through this problem with a newly created user (should be the same for you, being a new user yourself). I had to go into the Music folder for the user and move the iTunes folder out of the Music folder onto my desktop (this already had all of my itunes music in it). You can find that folder by double clicking the "MacIntosh HD" on your desktop, then clicking the "Music" icon on the left side of the window. If you see an iTunes folder in there move it to the trash (unless you have music in there, then move it to your desktop). That would solve the problem of the locked disk issue. Now after you open itunes and agree to the terms of use make sure that the "find music" box or similar is checked. It will automatically find your music folder on your desktop. After iTunes has completed the process of uploading the music, you can trash your original itunes folder. This is exactly how I fixed this problem for myself.

  • Itunes library.itl is locked, on a locked disk, of you do not have permissio to write this file

itunes library.itl is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have write permission to this file

Same problem happened to me. Go to Music (on windows). Then to iTunes folder. Right click on "iTunes Library". Properties. Then click on security tab. Where it says "To change Permissions, click edit" Click Edit. Then under "Permissions for system" Check the box for Full Control ALLOW. Click Apply. Then run iTunes it should work.
