Itunes is opening automatically

I am having a problem with iTuens ramdomly opeing itself.  I do not have an iPod, iPad, or iPhone attached.  It seems like it iTunes will not close comepletely and just keeps reopening.  Any help would be awesome.

Check Dashboard to see if you have any iTunes-related widgets running. If so, close them and see if that makes a difference. Similarly, look for any third-party apps that may be related to iTunes, such as apps that copy "now playing" information to a web site.
Another possibility is external speakers, if you have them. Another user here found that a loose speaker connection may cause random launching and playing on iTunes. Try wiggling the speaker plug and see if that causes iTunes to launch.  If so, unplugging and reconnecting the speakers may cure the problem. If not, you may have a defective speaker jack or an off-size plug on the speakers.
Hope this helps.

  • ITunes not opening automatically

iTunes are not opening automatcially while I connect my iPhone?

When connecting my iPhone, iTunes does not always open automatically. My preferences in iTunes are set to open automatically (under summary>options) and the choice to disable automatic syncing (iTunes prefs>Devices) is not checked. Any ideas as to what else can cause this conflict?
It should. Make sure the iTunesHelper application is in your list of Login Items (System Preferences > Accounts > Login Items). You may need to remove and reinstall the Apple Mobile Device Service:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1747
Also, is there anyway to set iPhoto to not open automatically when connecting an iPhone, yet to open automatically when connecting a digital camera? Seems like Apple could make iPhoto smart enough to know the difference.
It seems that way, but it's not the case. It's an all-or-none thing, unfortunately.

  • ITunes 5 opening automatically!

I am working on a Word document with contentious style issues. Regularly, iTunes OPENS ON ITS OWN IN THE BACKGROUND, I'm not kidding here, then Microsoft Error Reporting opens, crashes and Word crashes. This is the bizarrest thing I have ever seen. Has anyone else had this? Any ideas how I can get Word to stop opening iTunes and then crashing?

    I'm having the same problem!
My PC is running Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit. I installed the latest version of iTunes a couple of nights ago.
I updated my iPhone 4 to iOS5 last night before bed (it took quite a few attempts!).
I turned on my PC when I got home from work this evening, and iTunes started itself automatically. Something it's never done before.
I closed it. I used my iPhone... iTunes started itself automatically again.
I closed it. I used my iPhone... iTunes started itself automatically again.
I closed it. I used my iPhone... iTunes started itself automatically again.
    etc. ...
I do have WiFi sync enabled in iTunes, but why would it keep starting itself and connecting to my iPhone without me specifically telling it to?! I don't want it to do that - I only want it to start when I tell it, I only want it to connect when I tell it. I don't want iTunes to start itself every time I unlock my iPhone!

  • Getting iTunes to open automatically

When I plug my iPhone into my computer, iTunes doesn't open automatically. Is there something I need to do before this will happen?
    Thanks for any help.

the iTunes Helper is located here:
    /Applications/iTunes.app/Contents/Resources/iTunesHelper.app/Contents/MacOS/iTun esHelper
it should be run at login.. you can do it GUI style by right-click on iTunes.app and 'show pkg contents' and then navigate down to the iTUnesHelper, drag that into your start at login items in accounts in sys prefs.
if it's already there, than you have some other problem interfering.

Possible causes of this issue include:

  • ITunes keeps opening automatically

I've been gone for the past 2 weeks on Christmas vacation
I came home yesterday, turned on my mac, and iTunes keeps opening by itself randomly.
It was fine before I left.
    It's so annoying!
    Any help?

Hello--Forgive the delay but I was away for a while after posting...Nothing seems to trigger the problem. I open iTunes, listen, close it. And then it starts re-opening. Every time I quit, it re-opens within seconds. (I have not noticed anything like another app being open that triggers it.) I hope this is helpful.

  • Itunes wont open automatically when ipod is connected

    its 4th gen ipod touch

    Launch iTunes.
From the iTunes menu bar top of your screen click iTunes > Preferences then select the Devices tab.
Deselect:  Prevent iPods, iPhones, and iPads from syncing automatically
    Click OK.
Now connect your iPod to your computer.
Select the iPod under Devices left side of the iTunes window in the source list.
    Now select the Summary tab.
Select:  Open iTunes when this <device> is connected

  • The instructiion at 0x5de7cfe3 referenced memory at 0x00000004.  The memory could not be read. I keep getting this error message, and iTunes keeps opening automatically.

I upgraded to 10.5 last weekend, and since then my iTunes keeps popping open.  I get the error message above, but sometimes the first "code" is different, the last time it was 0x6473cfe3 instead.  So irritating....

Try updating your QuickTime Player to the most recent version. Does that clear up the launch errors in iTunes?

  • Itunes 7 opens automatically??

when i close my itunes 7 on my macbook, it will open again after a few minutes. weird thing is, it's not consistent - sometimes it will re-open, other times it won't.

Check this post - might help.

  • Itunes Randomly Opens Automatically

I will quit itunes, then be surprised a few minutes later when the application pops up on my screen again. I have downloaded 7.6 but this problem still occurs. any help?

Hmmm, In my case you may be right! I thought I had got rid of the TuneView software, but I never bothered to check after I deleted the folder out of Applications. The TVUSB Daemon is still running and its source is /Library/Application Support/Keyspan/TVUSB. I will get rid of this and see if my problem goes away. The TVUSB Daemon should not be starting iTunes on its own... that is if it is working correctly.

  • ITunes 10.5 is opening automatically, even though no device is plugged in

After installing the latest version of iTunes for Windows and iOS5 on my iPads, it opens randomly on it's own even if no device has been plugged in.  I thought at first it might be wireless synching (my Zune software opens automatically when it syncs wirelessly, for example) but that's not enabled for any of the devices paired with this PC.
Any ideas why iTunes is opening automatically on it's own?  And why it's only happening now?  I haven't recently installed anything other than the latest version of iTunes, and I don't have any 3rd party widgets or programs that access the library.
    Thanks in advance!
    Paul
