ITunes is possessed!?!?!?

All of a sudden my iTunes is possessed, I open the app to select a song to play and it goes haywire! In the selection screen it scrolls up & down on its own, in the play screen it scrolls back and forth then eventually surprises me with a song of its choosing. I've tried restarting the phone, no luck what else can I do?

I've got a resolution to my problem. Thanks to my buddy Joe Cicinelli at coyotecreeksoftware.com, he suggested reinstalling iTunes 7.3 and that resolved the playing of songs when YouTube videos play and when iChat messages come in.

  • Sir, it appears my iTunes is possessed.

Short of performing an exorcism Im lost!
Every few days iTunes takes is upon itself to start up randomly and begin playing any old song... when I try and turn it off it keeps coming back to life... nothing will get rid of it until I restart... but then it starts up again when I least expect it.

  • Scary black screen with smoke in iTunes

Does anyone know what this is?! It's moving and the smoke keeps eminating. Has my iTunes become possessed?

    Hello Hennrs,
It looks like the iTunes visualizer is what you are seeing there. You can close that with the following article:

  • ITunes pausing, playing, skipping tracks without any input.

About an hour ago, my iTunes began to pause, play and skip tracks without me doing anything at all. I made sure that i wasnt pressing ANY buttons and i even quit the app altogether. This did not help as it just reopened seconds later and began playing music again. How can i stop this from happening?

I just started having this very same problem. iTunes (9.1) will stop and start on its own. Sometimes I am listening to music while in another app, like in a browser or word processor, and it will pause itself every few minutes. It will be fine for a while, then it will pause, I start it again, and it pauses again and again. Other times it will just randomly start playing if was left paused.
The freakiest is when the app starts up by it self. I watched it Start up on its own 3 times in one hour. I think this is why my computer once woke up from sleep mode in the middle of the night.
It is like there is a ghost playing with my computer, or iTunes is possessed. I did several virus scans, and their was nothing. I also Ran Tech tool. Next I will work with Disk Utility, see if that finds anything.
The only thing that occurred about the same time was I started getting more spam in the email account that goes to my mac mail. These may be unrelated, but it is the only noticeable thing that has occurred around the same time.
This feels like some sort of Malware, Zombie computer situation, but I can't find much about Mac Malware evidence out there.

  • Unchecked tv shows keep syncing!

I think my iTunes is possessed! I unchecked tv shows that I no longer want to sync to my iDevices. I unchecked to Sync TV Shows but they keep on syncing to my iPad and iPhone. Oddly enough it is different shows for the 2 devices..... Two shows on my iPad that keep on syncing and one show on my iPhone. I have tried syncing with my iPad connected via USB to my MacBook Pro. I can't get rid of them. Happy New Year! Thanks for any help, Judy

When you have your IPad connected to iTunes, on the Summary/Options pane, I think you have to check "Sync only checked songs and videos".  Then your Unchecked movies and shows should disappear from the iPad.

  • HT1420 I'm trying to authorize a new computer with an itune account, but my the computer statea that I have too many devices authorized. I only have 2 computers in my possession now. How can I deauthorize computer I don't have anymore without deauthorizin

I have recently purchased a new lap top. Both my wife and I share our Itune music. When I purchesed the computer I was able to authorize my itunes account on it and move my purchaced music over from my iphone. However, I was not able to move my wifes music over because she has too many devices authorized under her account. Most of those computers are no longer in our possession and have been thrown out. How can she deauthorzise computer we don't have in our possession anymore without deauthorizing them all?

Authorizing deauthorizing has NO effect at all on your itunes library.  You lose nothing.
You should also alwasy have a backup copy.
    You MUST deauthorize all.
You have the only answer there is.

How can I deauthorize an iTunes account for a computer I no longer possess?

If you no longer have the computer(s) you want to deauthorise,
Log in to iTunes,  go to "view your account info" on the itunes store,  deauthorise all five, (Please Note: this can only be done Once every 12 months)  and then re-authorize your current Computer(s) one at a time.

  • Films I do not possess anymore prevent me from changing my iTunes region, although my last film ran out a good month ago.

So I got a new bank card with some cash on it a good month ago and wanted to change my iTunes region to the UK, since that is where I'm living right now. My last one was set to Germany, since I was running over a different card. I borrowed The Avengers for 2 days from iTunes 3 weeks ago, and so the time ran out and the film was deleted from my Mac and iTunes. Yet still I get the message above, that I still possess that movie and until it runs out, I cannot change my region.
Anyone got ideas on how to fix that?
    Thank you

The problem is, that the movie WAS deleted off my Mac already, so I don't even have the option to watch it. And since it ran out back in September, I have waited for more than a week for it "to run out".
Solutions? But thanks for the quick suggestion.

  • Itunes Possessed

Itunes keeps opening itself. No matter how many times I quit out of it it just starts itself up. How do I make it stop? Please help.

Do you have a Dashboard Widget that uses iTunes? If so it's probable that that widget is using iTunes which is why it opens.

  • What would possess Apple to disable the Genius Function in iTunes 11

I bought more great music that way than any other way possible. But now there are NO recommnedations from the iTunes store for the songs I owe.
The first thing I always did after purchasing a new song was to see what the other recommendations were and that would always lead to the discovery and purchase of more music! *** were they thinking!!! SO FRUSTRATING!!!!!

Inquisitive,  The link you used is for iTunes feedback.  Try again to iTunes Customer Service.  Make clear that the track is defective and that you request a refund.

  • My phone is possessed, every other day I have to delete the same app,. I find I'd on my list on my iPhone, although its not on my iTunes list!!! As if it is a virus. It shortens my battery life too.

This is happening to my old iPhone too, so I guess it's a sync related issue, when I delete it a message comes out asking me that I'm deleting this bookmark, not an app, but can't find it's origin

But could the user of the phone just turn on iCloud themselves and get the private notes I wanted to keep from them? Is there a way to permanently delete them from the old phone without deleting from the new phone?

  • Can I Use iTunes Store without Storing Bank Accounts, etc, in my Profile?

    Hi
Today a fraudulent charge of $89.99 appeared on my iTunes account. This suggests that a hacker has obtained my password, and hence access to all information in my iTunes account, including credit card or Paypal account information. I can deal with having to claim refunds for fraudulent iTunes purchases, but I cannot afford to risk ID Theft, or to have my back account information in the possession of hackers.
    (1) Is it possible to maintain an iTunes account that does not store bank accounts, and ideally stores no personal information other than my email address?
    (2) If I can do this, I assume I'd then have to enter that information for each purchase. Will this information be expunged once the ourchase is complete? Or would it remain on the system in some form, accessible to hackers?
    (3) If (1) is not possible, how do I cancel my iTunes account? There does not seem to be such an option on the iTunes Account Management screens.
    Thanks,
    Chris

You can remove your credit card from your account. Go into the account, click "Edit payment information" and you will see the option under credit card to click "None."
For purchasing, you can either enter the card info per transaction, or you can start using iTunes gift cards which are readily available.

  • At a loss. Wiring a possessed house I think! Input needed

    Need some help.
I know and have done a lot of networking No pro, but self taught. Did run Ethernet of my whole house (ex wife's house now ) pre wifi days. Running wires, using switches and routers. All worked. Have down a ton of wifi - all Apple gear for myself in my location, friends and family. Good to go. I currently run a bunch in my home for iPhones, computers, netflix, itunes server, Air Video for all devices. Flawless.
So I'm not a dummy at least. So……
To my dads house. My on going project for a year. Great house. Big. Hand built back in the '50's. All plaster. Well made.
1- His office - cable modem to Airport Extreme - named BASE. Across this room, one Airport express (all AX are older g units) for the stereo from computer.
Now when I try to extend this network only for him to use his iPhone with Apple Remote to control music, I have now bought 5 Airport Expresses - the signal will not carry for more than 10 feet at best in this house (it's possessed I swear). NOT KIDDING.
I put an Express 10 feet from the office to a kitchen, why because any further I get no signal connection.
From this Express another one 10 feet for a den.
But the signal is so weak it doesn't work.
The house is plaster - I guess very well plastered and who knows what metal lathering is behind the plaster? It's a ranch.
What could possibly abort wifi signal like this. Oh, I might add, no iPhones work in the house either. We're in NY.Long Island. Major ATT signal. Nada in house. Go outside no problem.
So I'm going to tackle this again this weekend. Start from scratch. Any insight? I'm asking because I'm at a loss and think I'M NUTS! LOL
What would make wifi not carry for any distance? Lot's of windows in the house too.
I'm on the verge of telling him to have cable run another wire and modem to the other side of the house.
I'm stumped. I was going to post a few times but can't imagine why I can't get this working. Feel like a dunce.
Right now he tells me it's no connection in the den. The last AX extender not 10 feet from him.
    Thanks in advance.

In addition to metal, water also will cause significant reduction in signal. The higher the frequency, the worse the problem. (One of the reasons why in the past submarines needed to surface to use their radios.) Perhaps the plaster or wood is exceptionally wet or the particular plaster they used has a high metal content. You may want to try using only 2.4GHz instead of 5HGz because lower frequencies penetrate walls better. I'm grasping for straws, but I'm not sure what else you could try short of tearing down walls.
I will tell a story of one wiring job I did. My boss gave a quote and approval sight unseen. He normally didn't do this but due to various circumstances and time constraints, he took a gamble. The job was to install a DSL modem and wireless router for a doctor's office. The modem and router were in the managers office. The reception area in the next room would have two workstations about 15 feet away, connected wirelessly. The doctor's office would get one laptop connected wirelessly, about 100 feet at the other end of the building. The building was all wood construction so no one foresaw what happened next. The manager's computer was fine since it was wired. One of the wireless reception workstations was fine with full signal strength since it was a line of sight through an open doorway to the router. The other reception workstation was working but only had 50% signal strength. (Not line of sight to the router.) The doctor's laptop had zero bars. I moved the laptop next to the router and got 100% signal strength. I walked the laptop next to the workstation with line-of-sight, and still got 100%. I walked to the other reception workstation and got 50%, same as the workstation. I walked out of the reception area turned left and started to walk down the hallway to the doctor's office. I took no more than 5 steps and got zero bars! I walked back a few steps and the meter jumped to 50%. I had to do this a few times to fully convince myself. It was only a chance conversation I had with one of the nurses who recalled that the former occupant of the office was a dentist. So we surmised that the room that the router was in might have had the x-ray machine, so they would have lined the walls with lead or whatever. In any case, we ended up having to pull wires. But we learned that regardless of what it looks like on the outside... But this does sound quite similar to your experience.
There's also the time that my coworkers found that the whole wall was 1/4" steel plate. The walls were covered with drywall so we didn't know it was there until we ruined a half dozen drill bits. It seemed like it was armor plate steel. We think the building used to be a indoor gun range or something. And there was the time that we encountered hardened concrete walls at an office using a former military building. Fortunately neither of those had Wi-Fi but we likely would have had signal problems in both cases. It taught us that we can't assume and needed to do a thorough inspection ahead of time.
So while I don't think the house is possessed, I do suspect that the original builder used some funky local material. Maybe he was a conspiracy theorist and has tinfoil in all the walls.
