ITunes is saying it can't find my music when I know it's there...

So... since I have a computer with only and 80GB hard drive, I bought a 160GB external hard drive to keep all of my iTunes stuff on it and that's even where my iTunes music folder is located.
I have about 5500 songs and 700 videos.
But for some reason it started saying it can't find a lot of my music.
Everything is on my external hard drive and I already checked if I accidentally deleted them. I didn't.
Some of my items it still has playable.
I can only listen/watch about 30% of my stuff.
The first time this happened I was about to call Apple and complain but it started working all the sudden.
This is the second time and has been a few days.
Nothing has changed.
I even reset my iTunes folder to the default location.
Then I put it back to normal: computer/WD Sync (F:)/iPod music and video.
The WD Sync is my external hard drive.
That didn't help.
I think it might have been because my computer used to call my external hard drive disk (E:), now it's calling it disk (F:).
And this started happening after updating to iTunes 7.6.2.
ANY HELP?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there are also links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

  • I can't get my itunes playlists to sync now that I had to get new computer.  My library is still there and the playlists show and I can even add to my playlists. But as soon as it goes to sync it says it can't find all the songs that used to be there.

I can't get my itunes playlists to sync now that I had to get a new computer.  They all appear in my library and show in my playlists.  I can even download new songs from the itunes store to those playlists but when it syncs only the new songs go on the ipod.  It says it can't find any of my "old" songs and puts an exclamation mark beside them.  I am clueless when it comes to these things.  Advice please!  We have three ipods on this account trying to figure it out.

You can only sync to one computer.
You would have to transfer purchases, but the apple ID would need to be the same.
Or find a 3rd party app to transfer content.

  • ITunes says it can't find apps/music and videos

when i try to sync my ipod touch with itunes it says that it can't find a number of items. how can i find these items (music, videos and apps) and get them on my ipod.
    Thank you for your time

This happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout,or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
Alternatively, as long as you can find a location holding the missing files, then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes .
To find out which tracks are missing...
    Lost & Found
Create a playlist called Found, select everything in Music and drag it into the Found playlist (it may take some time to count the tracks that are to be dropped). Create a smart playlist called Lost matching All the rules Playlist is Music and Playlist is not Found. Your lost tracks will be in this playlist.

Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from here (use one of the links under the thingy):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
To install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • 42 GB itunes library says it can't find the files

My 1113 song 42 GB itunes library says " files could not be found " when I try to play any song
yet it still shows that it's using 42.82 GB on my hard drive . Where is it hiding or is it just gone ?
Does any one have an idea??

On the HD is one thing.
PROPERLY pointed to by the iTunes Music Library.xml and iTunes Library.itl files is another thing entirely.
If you've renamed or moved your music folder, however slightly, the XML file will no longer recognize the "location" on your iTunes files. Then the Library.itl file is useless.
Hold the Option key when you launch iTunes and re-select your library in its proper location.

  • ITunes in Vista RC1 - can't find My Music folder

I installed iTunes 7.0.1 in Vista (64 bit)& launced iTunes. I get an iTunes error message saying "The folder 'iTunes' cannot be found or created, and is required. The default location is inside the 'My Music' folder." I can't even open iTunes to direct it to the location; when you click OK on the box, it closes the error box and iTunes doesn't open.
Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas?

I had been keeping my library in an external disk drive, that had - until the crash - been my 'G' drive. Post crash it now calls itself the 'K' drive.
your registry will probably still be looking for the My Music folder on your K drive. (the "My Music" folder has special registry properties.)
so let's try shifting the drive letter on that drive back to "K". for instructions on shifting drive letters, see the following document. (although it's about changing the drive letter of an iPod, the same basic principle apply to changing the drive letters of other drives.)
Windows confuses iPod with network drive or hard drive and may keep iPod from mounting or songs may seem to disappear

  • ITunes is empty, how can I find my music?

    Hi,
I recently moved all my music from the iTunes Music folder onto an external storage device and then deleted it from the folder on my computer, thinking I would still be able to play it. When I opened iTunes again it was blank, and I didn't want to manually find each and every song, so I put all the music back on my computer in the original folder. iTunes, however, is still empty when I open it. Is there a way to import or find all of the music at once, so that iTunes has it all when I open it again--rather than having to open each song individually from the iTunes Music folder?
(I have an iPod with all the music on it as well, if that helps)
    Thanks,
    Steve

I found an answer: in the File menu you can select Import Folder, and then select the new iTunes Music folder and it should bring in everything.
I hope this is helpful if anyone else out there has the same problem as me!

  • TS3988 It says it can't find the server when I try to login. What am I doing wrong or what do I need to do to fix it?

What do I need to do when it says ther server can not be found when I try to login on my PC?

It doesn't appear to be a valid domain.
'''.mx''' on its own would make it a second level domain, that is is to say, the organization which registered the domain.
Your site will likely be a third level domain which means there has to be a prefix before the '''.mx'''. What that should be will depend on the registrar. For example, it could be '''www.ssmithx10.com.mx'''
You need to contact the company where your site is registered to find out what that is.
Here's a list just in case you haven't registered it all: http://www.registry.mx/jsf/rar_list/search/search.jsf
If this answers your question, please click the '''Solved it''' button next to this post after you log in into the forum. This will help others searching for a solution to the same subject.

  • Apple updated my Itunes and now I can't find my music playlist.  How do I get my music playlist back that I had created?

    Good morning to all,
Apple updated my Itunes profile and it no longer shows all of my music files>  How can I get all of the music files back that I created?

    Hi there  WALnut@1828,
You may need to recreate the iTunes library. Take a look at the article below for more information.

  • I cannot start iTunes because the program can't find 'My music' folder

I had a fairly hefty PC crash yesterday, and I cannot now start my iTunes software. The error message is: "The folder 'iTunes' cannot be found or created, and is required. The default location for this folder is inside the 'My Music' folder."
I had been keeping my library in an external disk drive, that had - until the crash - been my 'G' drive. Post crash it now calls itself the 'K' drive.
All I can presume is that the software is pointed towards the old 'G' drive.
My music is still intact, but I just cannot connect to it.
    Can anybody help, please?
    Many thanks.

  • Equium A200: Norton can't find any virus but I know it's there

My notebook (Equium A200) was attacked by a virus which made many programmes malfunction. I ran Norton (the free version which came with the laptop) but found nothing. I eventually decided to run product recovery. It took 3 attempts to load properly , but still the system is unstable and slow and I have to restart quite often.
    Any sugguestions?

    Hi
If you have installed new OS and recovered the notebooks with Toshiba recovery CD then you shouldnt have any viruses or malware on the HDD.
Usually the HDD will be formatted using the recovery CD and all files (data and viruses) should be deleted!
I recommend formatting the whole HDD and to delete all partitions. Then recover the notebook using the Toshiba CD and reinstall the OS.
Finally you should get rid of all the malware and viruses.
If the notebook will run slowly and unstable after this procedure then I dont think that any virus could causes such problems.

Could you post your diagnostics for us please?
In iTunes, go "Help > Run Diagnostics". Uncheck the boxes other than DVD/CD tests, as per the following screenshot:
    ... and click "Next".
When you get through to the final screen:
... click the "Copy to Clipboard" button and paste the diagnostics into a reply here.
