ITunes is so slow to load

Well, as the title suggests, iTunes takes an age to load up. I used Jriver media player before this and that loaded in less than one second. iTunes currenly can take 30 seconds to a minute to load, which is unacceptable.
Win 7 64 bit
16gb ram
Intel i7 3.4 ghz
Running iTunes off an SSD.
I've tried uninstalling, reinstalling but still the same lame slow performance and even when its running it feels sluggish. Come on Apple, this programme is the heart of iPhone, iPad and iPod.

Any word on this? Is it slow like this for everyone?
I have the latest version of iTunes, running on the latest version of OSX, running on a 2011 iMac.
Yet iTunes still runs extreamly slow to load, even after it loads compleatly, it is slow when bowsing.

  • Itunes is very slow to load and takes forever to recognize iphone

My itunes has been running VERY slow. It takes several minutes to open, then it is unuseable for another several minutes. Here it can browse my library but my iphone doesn't show up. after this it takes five to ten minutes to recognize the iphone. it was working yesterday when I updated my iphone to 4.3.5, then suddenly this happened.
Any clues? I installed the most up to date version and it has the same symptoms and eventually says iTunes was unable to load data class information from sync services. Reconnect or try again later

I was able to get my iTunes functional again after disabling a lot of my windows services -- use this thread for your reference:

I haven't pinpointed exactly which service(s) were causing the iTunes slowdown, as I haven't had time to test re-enabling all of them yet.  But so far I've just disabled the services that I know I don't need anymore and iTunes has been running like a champ =)

  • ITunes 9 painfully slow to load

With all the new graphics & album art that loads & animation that has to load iTunes load so painfully slow & don't let Time Machine run at the same time! Is there anything I can do to either turn off all the additional art work that loads or can I downgrade back to the previous iTUnes?
Or is there something in Utilities maybe I can do?

I'll add my experience to this. It takes sometimes as long as 15 minutes to load my library, during which iTunes is "Not Responding," and churns my hard drive so that my entire system is nearly unusable. My system still has sufficient memory, so it is not paging.
Shutting down in the same experience. I just timed it at 10 minutes, with the same hard drive churn and nearly unresponsive system. The RAM usage goes as high as 1GB of ram, and in Activity Monitor, it is writing for minutes at ~20MB/s. I thought that my library was somehow corrupted, but this seems to be a common experience?

  • Movies from iTunes are very slow to load

Movies in iTunes take forever to load and play on Apple TV .Is this normal?

This might be caused by the distance between devices and the base station being too great or the signal being weak for other reasons or interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first.

  • Itunes 7.0 slow to load Shuffle

I just upgraded to 7.0 and the first time I refilled .5G Shuffle, it was ridiculously slow. (I'm not sure how long it took because I went to bed before it finished). The next time, I unchecked the option to "Convert higher bit rate ..." and the next synch was as fast as I am used to. The conversion option only added 9 additional songs (about 8%).
Apple should have defaulted this feature to be OFF.

  • ITunes incredibly slow to load, cannot see any devices...

    Hello,
iTunes is incredibly slow - takes 2 minutes+ to load. When it does load, it cannot see iPod touch, iPad 3 or iPhone 5. It could yesterday.
    Updated iTunes.
Totally removed all iTunes and associated programs, and reinstalled.
Checked Apple USB drivers, all functioning.
    Deleted preferences file.
    Ran on Windows safe mode.
Ran 3 different malware scans in Safe Mode.
    Unistalled Quicktime.
Ran on basic boot under MSIconfig.
    Please help!
    Windows 7, i5, 6gb ram.

Yes, that's a good point. On my MBP, everything works just fine, so it's not an internet connectivity issue. Both machines are running the same anti-virus/firewall software with the same settings. The MBP is wireless via Time Capsule, whereas the iMac is hardwired to TC. The only difference is the entire library is on the iMac and AppleTV pulls from it for both audio & photos.
But these are all "library" issues, which are unaffected. It's only the "store" and the rendering of the pages within it. I tried the parental settings trick to disable iTunes Store & iTunes U - sped right up on display. But as soon as I changed settings so I could actually access content? Slowed right down...
    Any other thoughts??
    Thanks

  • Slow Media Loading, Video iChat Fails, iTunes Choppy

Internet sites are reluctant to load and I usually have to click the refresh button 3-4 times before a given webpage will load (sometimes not even entirely: question marks in place of pictures).
Videos freeze up or just continually try to load but nothing ever happens.
iTunes is visually choppy when I open it and slow to load and sometimes my fan runs without anything really happening.
I've cleared my cache and that has had no effect. I've also checked my Activity Monitor and there are some minor red spikes with occasional medium sized ones. I don't see anything out of the ordinary running.
My music folder is 23 GB.
    My disc space says:
    51.72 GB Utilized
    22.49 GB Space Free
Basically everything is tremendously slow and I'm wondering what it could be, and more importantly: What should I do?
    Thanks

I don't have a solution for you, but maybe some suggestions for the causes.
If you're having problems loading a webpage, odds are it's the network and not your computer. Can other computers (friends, another you own, ipod) load web pages on that network without a hitch? If other computers can it's more likely a problem with how you setup the network than the computer being faulty.
iTunes: What else are you running while the visualizer is being choppy? I'd check activity monitor regularly when it gets slow and see what's using the most under the CPU column.
Is the video you're refering to that freezes up or is choppy streaming video from the web or video on your hard drive, or a DVD. If it's streaming video, see the first point i made. If its on your HD it could you have the wrong codecs installed or something of that nature. My QT is choppy with everything I play. WIthout really wanting to see what codecs I'm missing I've just downloaded VLC and run everything on that. No choppy anymore.
I don't know much else about how things work. And sorry if I'm giving you dumb answers but it's hard to tell how much knowledge people have, so maybe my little is more than theirs. Hope that helped.

  • IPod touch is REALLY slow to load and won't connect to iTunes on the PC

I have an iPod touch that won't connect to my iTunes account anymore.  It is also really really slow to load.  I have powered it down and back up and it is still really slow.  Has anyone else experienced this?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer to help determine if you have a computer or iPod problem.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • ITunes slow to load

When I click on iTunes (v 7.5) it loads very slowly, takes a full minute to fully load. If I close it and open it later, it starts much more quickly.
I tried enabling iPodService and iTunesHelper in my startups, but it made no difference in the loading time. I went into Device Manager and set iPodService to start automatically instead of manually. Again, no difference.
Any idea what I can do to speed up the loading of iTunes?

    Ditto here too

  • Since upgrading to ios8, pages very slow to load, and can no longer read items in my reading list when offline. ?????

SI since upgrading to ios8, Safari pages are very slow to load, Kindle crashes upon opening, and I can no longer read saved artices from my reading list when offline. Big disappointment. Is it possible to downgrade to previous ios?

I actually managed to fix it! But unfortunately I don't know what I was that I did that helped.
Anyways, this is kind of what I did.
    1. I tried to reset form bakup via iTunes, no change.
    2. I tried to reset as a new iPhone, problem still there and reading list also as bookmarks!? (several hundred)
    3. Noticed that I could delete a bookmark, once in a while, the other times I got the 'Bookmarks are being synced. Please edit the bookmarks once syncing has completed.' message.
    4. Because I figured that it was a memory problem, I thought it made sense to delete as many as possible, witch I did.
    5. Noticed that it was more likely that I coould delete a bookmark if I restarted Safari.
    6. Notice that it was even more likely that I could delete a bookmark if I turned the Safari sync with iCould off (with option detete information on iPhone) and then back on again.
    7. When I was about half way through deleting the bookmark list I suddenly discovered that all but one of the items in my reading list was 'waiting' and one was downloading. I kind of was 'unstuck' now.
    8. I started to delete items in my reading list, but every other time I got the 'Bookmarks are being synced. Please edit the bookmarks once syncing has completed.' message.
    9. It took a while to delete all bookmarks and items in the reading list.
Hope you guys could use the info here to fix your problems too!

  • IPhone slow to load contacts

    Hi
I have an iPhone 4S that recently upgraded to ios6. My iphone is slow to load contacts and also emails. There is a 5 - 10 second delay. This has been happening recently in the last 3 months or so (happened on IOS 5 and now IOS6). I have restored my phone and wiped everything using Itunes.
    Any advice?
    Thanks

I've also seen the delay - ever since I got my 3G phone. Update 2.0.1 was said to help this, but I think it's more affected by apps on the system, and how often you turn the phone off. Still not enough to really bother me, but wish it was faster. Hopefully another update will help. I'm sure it doesn't help that I have 2 different email accounts (1 is pretty big, lots of data ) and the fact I have almost 1000 contacts in mine.

  • Is there a technical explanation for why iTunes runs so slow?

I seem to experience a lack of performance using iTunes on a PC. It doesn't seem to matter which PC as I have tried many over the years. But the problems persist. Slow program loading, syncing problems, (both USB and wi-fi), iTunes Match problems, program freezes and unresponsiveness, changing from "Install" to "Will Install" in app lists. It really detracts from the over all experience with my iPhone and iPad. I have talked to people with Macs and they never seem to have these problems. I am curious as to why the difficulty in running iTunes on the PC platform. I have never really found a resource that directly addresses the matter and am looking for suggestions other than faster computers or reinstalling, which I have done many times.

It would help if you could be more specific about the problems you're experiencing.  I run iTunes on a variety of Windows systems: a 10-year desktop running WinXP SP3 / 32 bit, a desktop running Win7 / 32 bit, two laptops running Win7 / 64 bit and a netbook running Win8.1 / 64 bit. The only performance issues I see are on the older machines, where some library operations can be a little slow but these can be explained by the size of my library (approx. 600 Gb).  There are, however, all sorts of combinations of hardware and operating system that can affect application performance - iTunes is something of a memory-hog so can contribute to performance issues if running at the same time as other memory, processor, or disc intensive applications.  One example I had in the past was the combination of iTunes with a resource-hungry anti-virus utility (solved by changing the latter and making sure that scheduled scans happen at times when I'm highly unlikely to be running iTunes).

  • My macbook air is so slow at loading web pages

Why is my Macbook Air suddenly so slow at loading web pages?

Please answer as many of the following questions as you can. You may already have answered some of them. In that case, there's no need to repeat the answers.
Have you restarted your router and your broadband device (if they're separate) since you first noticed the problem? If not, do that now and see whether there's any change.
If your browser is Safari, then from the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
    and confirm. Any change?
If you're running OS X 10.9 or later, select the Advanced tab in the Preferences window and uncheck the box marked
              Stop plug-ins to save power
    Any change?
Quit and relaunch the browser. Any change?
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
Enable Private Browsing in the Safari menu. Any change?
Are any other web browsers installed, and are they the same? What about other Internet applications, such as iTunes and the App Store?
If other browsers and Internet applications are also affected, follow these instructions and test. Any change?
If Parental Controls is active for any user, please turn it off and test. Any change?
If only Safari is affected, launch the Activity Monitor application and enter "web" (without the quotes) in the search box. If a process named "Safari Web Content" is shown in red or is using more than about 5% of a CPU, select it and force it to quit by clicking the X or Quit Process button in the toolbar of the window. There may be more than one such process. Any improvement?
Open the iCloud preference pane and uncheck the box marked Photo Stream, if it's checked. Any change?
Are there any other devices on the same network that can browse the Web, and are they affected?
If you can test Safari on another network, is it the same there?
If you connect to your router with Wi-Fi and you can also connect with Ethernet, do that and turn off Wi-Fi. Any difference?
