ITunes is terrible.

I've been using iTunes for a while now, I'm not going to go into the differences between the Mac version and the Windows version because those differences are not what I'm concerned about.
There's a list of things that go wrong with iTunes. Firstly, iTunes screws up album artwork all the time for no reason - replacing all black album covers instead of the real ones. Because of course none of us want the correct album cover to go with the album do we?
The second thing is the store, there are so many albums available in the USA store, Canada store etc. that aren't available to other countries and it's really ridiculous how I can't even view these albums that I like in iTunes because I don't live in a particular country, Get real apple.
After changing back from us store to uk, I had to enter my details again and got my password wrong. Immediately I had to go and reset it unnecessarily - and when I did go to reset it, the criteria that I had to follow was ridiculous, must have capital letters, bumbers, no consecutive bla bla bla.
So bad, this programme; but unfortunately it's the only thing I can use to sort my iPod out and stuff. I think the iPod is a great invention by Apple, I love my iPod - but honestly, the programme that goes with it is very poor.
Apple should be at the forefront of trying to reduce illegal downloading as much as they can as a global company with responsibility. Well, considering how difficult they're making it to buy and manage tracks nowadays, I have a hunch that they're not doing very well. It is easier, faster and cheaper (obviously) for any person to type in album name in a torrent search engine and download it themselves. I might add as well, that's not even considering the price of an individual song from itunes these days, and you wonder why so many people download illegally? The level of herp-derp here can't be measured.
Well that's my rant over and done with and I'm sure many people will agree, iTunes as it is *****.

Why mention it then?

I've had that happen to me - once. After a small amount of effort on my part, the problem was resolved. So, not all the time. If it's happeneing to you all the time, then perhaps there is something else wrong that you need to identify. How about the size and type of artwork you're using? You could search these discussions to see if there are any clues to your problem.

Apple do not decide the countries music is made available, the owners of the music do that.

Now there's an interesting point. As I've already pointed out, it's the record companies and copyright owners who decide where music is sold, not Apple. If those record companies don't make something available legally, it's not surprising that dedicated fans seek out the music elsewhere. I believe the band Metallica found that out to their cost some years ago. And yet the industry hasn't learned from that very public mistake. Apple however, is trying to make it difficult to illegally copy. That's why you cannot plug your iPod into someone else's computer and copy their song files onto your iPod without removing your library. (...and how people moan about the fact that they cannot copy someone else's iTunes Library.)
I actually don't agree with your suggestion that iTunes is not very good. My previous (very well-known) brand of MP3 player came with software for managing it - nowhere near as good as iTunes. Many MP3 players still don't have dedicated software and are consequently indifferent (at best) or awkward (at worst) to manage.
And don't get me started on managing Podcasts. I've tried Podcatcher software that other people say is brilliant, but frankly it isn't. iTunes is fantastic for getting Podcasts.
iTunes may not be perfect in every respect, but perhaps that's why Apple has a feedback programme for constructive ideas, diesel has mentioned it. Try that.
Buy yourself another make of MP3 player, try it out and if you decide it's better than the iPod (which you love, despite iTunes) stick with it.

  • ITunes has terrible preformance issues

As iTunes has marched along with its myriad of updates, its performance has progressively gotten worse. It seems every time I upgrade (which is usually unnecessary) iTunes gets slower and slower. When I plug in my iPod it hangs for anywhere between 30-60 seconds. When I open it up after a period of relative disuse, it also takes between 30-60 seconds to react. Searching for things or simply trying to open up a playlist creates unacceptable lag. Resizing the window and accessing the iTunes store also have terrible response times. When I first started using iTunes I never had these problems but now they prevent me from using the program quite often.
iTunes also tends to constantly gobble up memory and disk space as it hangs around. I usually leave iTunes open for several days at a time. (since it takes so long to shut down and start up) But after a week of use, I can usually expect the program to have 150 Mb of memory and anywhere from 150 Mb to 350 Mb of virtual space taken up. This also causes shutdown times that can last up to 5 minutes. It has a memory leak it seems to me that is worse than Firefox.
Should I say screw everything and downgrade to an earlier version? I did this once before but I had unfortunately "upgraded" my iPod's software which realized that iTunes wasn't up to par and gave me an error message. (exactly what was so incompatible between versions is beyond me however)
Any suggestions without upgrading my hardware?
Is live updating a bear for the system to deal with?

I have a very powerful PC and it doesn't make a difference. 7.6 is just a mess. Your choice is to either try and go back to an older version (Best - before 7.5), or try winamp which works pretty good, but isn't as user friendly in it's looks (and no good if you've purchased lots of protected iTunes store product).
I agree in full what you've said - this mess of an "update" has really made me rethink my loyalty to iTunes and Apple products

  • Where is the EXACT version number shown?  Where is the menu link to the Help file?  Why is there no scroll bar?  The new iTunes is terrible in more ways than I can list... how do I switch back to version 10?

The newest iTunes version has no Help option.  Why?  And, no ability to find out the version number.
The new iTunes, when in album view in Windows 7, has NO SCROLLBARS, so it is impossible to scroll the albums.  Why?
Answer these questions, as I am an AAPL shareholder and I am NOT happy with these and other changes you've made to iTunes.

The newest iTunes version has no Help option.  Why?  And, no ability to find out the version number.
You may need to bring up your Menu Bar to see the Help menu.
If you're using 11.0.x, click on the wee boxy icon up in the top-left corner of your iTunes to see the "Show Menu Bar" control, as per the following screenshot:
Once you've got your Help menu showing, go "Help > About iTunes" and wait for the version number to scroll up from the bottom of the screen, as per the previous versions.

  • The new iTunes is terrible. Can I downgrade to what I had before?

The new iTunes upgrade is just plain awful. Apple used to be the most user friendly thing out there but now theyre trying to do too much and it just ***** my balls. Can i downgrade to the itunes I had before? If so, how?

Did you uninstall iTunes 11 and replace it with iTunes 10.7? If so, you'll need to go through a few steps to put things right:
    Rename "iTunes Library.itl" to some other name;
    Copy newst ITL file from the "Previous iTunes Libraries" folder into your main iTunes folder and rename it to "iTunes Library.itl";
    Download iTunes 10.7: http://appldnld.apple.com/iTunes10/041-7195.20120912.d3uzQ/iTunes10.7.dmg
    Download/install shareware app called Pacifist;
    Open Pacifist and, separately, mount iTunes DMG file -- drag iTunes PKG file into Pacifist and install iTunes via the Pacifist application -- be sure to answer yes to replacing everything Pacifist asks about;
    Enjoy iTunes 10.7.
    Cheers,

  • Choppy mp4 playback in iTunes

Until tonight, I've never had issues with video playback in iTunes. I have a library of mp4 video files that I've played successfully in the past with little or no video quality issues.
All of a sudden, none of my videos will play correctly in iTunes. The video is incredibly choppy, with a new frame or two playing every 30 seconds while the audio plays relatively normally. If I open the same file in another player (VLC or WMP), the file will play correctly with no choppiness. In fact, I can play the video file in both players at the same time with zero quality loss, so there's no lack of computer power that would cause this in iTunes. To the best of my knowledge, nothing changed on my system to prompt this - I was literally in the middle of watching a video when it happened.
After experiencing this issue, I upgraded iTunes, Windows, and my video card drivers to the latest versions/drivers (rebooting several times in the process), but this did not help. Next, I followed all of the instructions in the relevant support document (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1718), also to no avail.
For the heck of it, I rented an HD movie from the iTunes store and had the exact same problem. I originally thought that this might be an issue with my media, but it is clearly not.
I often stream video from my PC to my AppleTV, and this is also experiencing the exact same choppy video (as you would expect).
I have no clue what else to try. I would prefer to watch the videos in another player, but this is sadly not an option if I wish to continue using my AppleTV. Has anyone else experienced this (or a similar) problem? I'm at my wits' end, and very unhappy that I spent so much time transferring my video library into iTunes. Nothing substantial changed on my computer that should have caused this, especially not in the middle of watching a movie. Any help or further ideas would be greatly, greatly appreciated.

Solution: format computer because iTunes is terrible. Problem "solved," I guess

  • ITunes 7.7 slowly Calendar Syncing, OutlookSyncClient don't stop etc.

Yesterday i've update to iTunes 7.7. And iTunes getting worser every release on Windows.
    1. Calendar Syncing needs 3-4 Minutes (much slowler than in 7.6)
    2. After Syncing OutlookSyncClient.exe needs constantly 10-20% of CPU Cycles even when my iPod Touch (1.1.4) is disconnteced.
    3. When OutlookSyncClient.exe ist running (not syncing with the touch) then also the Outlook.exe ist constantly using 15-30% of the CPU Cycles.
    4. So i have around 40-50% CPU usage while doing nothing!
    5. While Syncing the CPU Usage is lot higher (80-90%)
    6. After killing the OutlookSyncClient.exe Proucess everything went back to normal
Generally (even in 7.6) the performance of iTunes is terrible e.g. high cpu usage while simply downloading PodCasts.
I often get a blacked iTunes Windows, i have to minimize it and restoring it via the tray symbol to get a normal look. Or i can move the mouse over every portion of the window.
How to get that all fixed?
    Regards
    Albert

I'm in the same boat. Updated to iTunes 7; iTouch 2.0 installed, Outlook 2003 syncing problems - outlooksyncclient.exe running at 40% CPU all the time - oh, and not all calendar events copied over to the iTouch.
    Most annoying.
Have reinstalled iTunes, restaretd PC / iTouch, to no avail.
    Any more ideas ?

  • I really don't like iTunes 10 for these reasons

think that the new iTunes 10 is really a step backward for several reasons which are as follows.
    (1) If you want to view as album list you have to set each play list individually.
    (2) When viewed in album list the artwork is too small and cannot be made bigger.
    (3) There is no longer any colour to iTunes which makes it look dated.
    (4) When using the show album artwork button in the bottom right corner the artwork is too big and hides to much of the playlist.
    (5) When using view as album list all of the columns that i'm used to disappear and if I want them back I have to set them for each individual playlist and having over 4000 of them this is impossible.
After all said and done this iTunes is terrible a real step backward for Apple and I hope that you put back the functions that were on the previous iTunes. Make it easy for us as some of us have a lot of music to keep catalogued.

have never used applescript and to be honest don't know how to
It's part of the OS so it's just there to use and very simple.
In the case of the script above you copy it to the location it tells you to, run iTunes, select the playlists you want then run the script from the iTunes Script menu.
What are you trying to accomplish with a playlist for every album?
There's absolutely no need for a playlist for every album.
If you have more than ~20-30 playlists, you probably have too many.
If you are a DJ or have a specific need for more but 4000 playlists will simply bog down iTunes.
The playlist are part of the *iTunes library* file and *iTunes library.xml* file.
Anytime you do just about anything in iTunes, these files get rewritten. This includes playing, skipping or rating a song, editing any info, creating, deleting or updating a playlist, adding or deleting anything from the library, and oither actions.
These files get rewritten, not once per session, but _after every action_.

  • Last version of iTunes

The last version of iTunes is terrible!!! How can i get a previos version of iTunes?

You can restore much of the look & feel of the previous version with these shortcuts:
Ctrl-B to turn on the menu bar.
Ctrl-S to turn on the sidebar.
Ctrl-/ to tutn on the status bar.
Click the magnifying glass top right and untick Search Entire Library.
If you still want to roll back to iTunes 10.7 first download a copy of the 32 bit installer or 64 bit installer as appropriate, uninstall iTunes and suppporting software, i.e. Apple Application Support & Apple Mobile Device Support. Reboot. Restore the pre-upgrade version of your library database as per the diagram below, then install iTunes 10.7.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to scan the media folder and catch up with any changes made since the backup file was created.

  • Need help fixing video playback on iTunes and worried it will affect iphone

First of all, the black levels when playing videos on iTunes looked terrible.
I looked all over on how to fix this..
So then I installed the lastest nvidia graphics drivers to help with video playback
After install my videos black level was definatly better, I think.
But now all videos play wierdly in the corner of the itunes program..

I need help to fix this and I hope this dont affect playback on iphone 4

If exporting to i4 results in the same, there could be a problem with the movie itself. Try exporting to the i4 and replay the video. However if exporting to i4 plays okay on the phone, it's your Nvidia drivers. You can download the prior Nvidia drivers and downgrade.
There have been dozens of cases where Nvidia drivers even the newest ones have made a mess of games, movie playbacks, even viewing Windows programs.

  • Sound on Itunes doesn't sound right

I'm not sure if my problem is with my computer or the itunes. The sound when i play my music on itunes is terrible. The equilizer doesn't help at all, i put it on manual and i couldn't hear anything, just an intense amount of bass. The vocals will be really low and and the other parts jacked way up or vise versa. I can't figure this out.

  • Am I the only one that thinks iTunes slows everything down?

Maybe my computer is just very slow, but I feel like itunes is terrible in terms of memory usage. Every time I start it, it takes forever to boot and slows everything else down. Even if my computer is slow, this is a fault in the program as others don't have this effect... Anyone have feedback?

There's not much in iTunes that would slow the boot process of your computer, since the support processes (Mobile Device Support and Bonjour are the only ones I can think of that start at boot, though I may be forgetting one or two others) that iTunes uses don't start until late in the boot process. So I doubt that all your performance problems stem from iTunes. But you can try uninstalling iTunes - it shouldn't remove your content, but make sure you have a good backup just in case something goes wrong - and see if matters improve. That way you'll know for sure. Alternatively you can try just stopping, or uninstalling, the background processes and see if that makes any difference.
Another possibility is your system's security software, which might be blocking or delaying the launch of some components.
FWIW, I haven't seen any change in the performance of either my Windows XP nor Windows 7 systems after installation of iTunes.
    Regards.

  • Remove partially downloaded iTunes movie from iPad

I tried to download a movie to my iPad but the download stopped in the middle as there was not enough storage.  Now the partial movie is stuck on my iPad and I cannot remove it.  I have removed almost all data from my iPad to create more space but this hasn't helped.  When the iPad is connected to my Mac nothing shows in movies but there is a huge chunk of data showing in "Other" in the bar at the bottom.  When I try to manage storage on the iPad, the video app shows "no data".  I have looked at this problem in support communities and people have said that I must download the entire movie before I can delete it.  However, when I try to complete the download I still get message that there isn't enough available storage even though there is a lot of available space onthe iPad.  My iPad has iOS 7.0.4

what is the Other on my iPhone and How to Remove It
    Summary
What is the Other on my iPhone? Now the Other is taking up 1.9GB space on iPhone 4, how can I remove it and release the space?
oneClean - Clean Up Your iPhone iPad
Reclaim up to 40% free space on your iPhone with One-click. Start download now before reading this What is the Other on my iPhone guide.
Symptom: Frankly I rarely cared about the free space on my iPhone until it ran out today and my iPhone 4 warned me to release some space. The first thing that I were considering initially was to delete some large game Apps. But when I connected to my computer, I noticed that a "Other" bar was consuming 2.5 GB of my iPhone's 13.57 GB. Does anyone know what the Other means on my iPhone?
Don't Miss: How Can I Transfer Music from iPhone to iTunes
What is taking up "Other" space on my iPhone
Analysis: Some of you may think the Other on your iPhone is the pure OS taken space or Safari, email temporary data. But that’s not the complete answer.
Part of that Other space on iPhone is taken up by iOS, the operating system running on your iPhone. For this part, this is no way to reclaim the free space from that. However, the Other part of iPhone storage space also contains sort of caches and temp files generated by App and iTunes syncs, and some of them won't be used long-term.
The size used by Other on your iPhone largely depends on the App you currently installed on the phone. The more caches and temp files created by Apps, the more space consumed by Other. And of course, it may slow your iPhone down.
Solution: it is hardly to put up with 2-3GB space taken by Other on iPhone, especially we even have no idea about what exactly it is. So to remove the Other, you can try to reclaim this space by doing a sync with iTunes; in other cases, you may have to go through a full backup and restore process.
Because iTunes is terribly slow and troublesome on Windows PC (Best iTunes Alternatives ), and every time we sync our iPhone with iTunes will take lot of time. So, alternatively, you can use an iPhone Cleaner program to remove their Other files on your iPhone.
PhoneClean is an iPhone, iPad, iPod touch cleaner application, which is dedicatedly designed to free up space on iPhone; clean App cache, cookies, and history; sweep off media temp files, etc.

  • Win7 Pro x64 and iTunes - poor performance

    Hi all
I'm running iTunes on Win7 Pro 64bit, and iTunes is terribly slow when I connect either my iPHone 3Gs or my iPad.
Last night it hung using 14% of the CPU (i7, so plenty of power, far more than iTunes should need) for more than 10 minutes, so I cancelled the sync on my iPad.
I removed all the Apple software on my PC, and was installing the 64bit version again (same as last time), when I noticed that the installer sees the 64bit version as 32bit. I'm not sure if this is related, but I thought I'd mention it.
Is anyone else having this problem with 64bit? Any solutions that anyone is aware of?
    Any help appreciated.
    Alex

That's a blast from the past. (The bulk of my troubleshooting on the nVidia Windows 7 bug was about a year or so ago ... then a lot of PCs started shipping with the hotfix preinstalled and reports of the nVidia chipset thing pretty much died out.)
Strange though ... although your symptoms are actually more consistent with the nVidia thing than the P55 thing, that particular hotfix only used to affect nVidia chipsets rather than the Intel P55s. I wonder what's going on?
Ah well ... if it works, it works. Fingers crossed for an end to the trouble.

  • Difference between mastered for iTunes and previous versions?

Is there a noticeable difference between Mastered for iTunes albums and any previous versions? I purchased Bon Jovi's "Have A Nice Day (Special Edition)", and now it has been replaced with a Mastered for iTunes version. Is there any value or noticeable difference if I were to purchase the new version?

One of the inexpensive compilation downloads I purchased on iTunes was terrible, I'd much rather listen to the original mix of " I had too much to dream last night" than the remaster, which destroyed the song completely.
Well, there is really no way to improve on the sound of The Electric Prunes coming over an AM transistor radio!
I guess I'm suspicious of iTunes files in general. I am a dying breed, using separate amps and pre-amps and real speakers as well as Ultimate Ear earbuds and a great car system. The cuts that are engineered for iTunes are mixed for lo-fidelity appliances and just don't sound that good.
There are online download stores that cater to a more audiophile crowd.  Check out HD Tracks.
