ITunes keeps attempting to open

iTunes keeps opening by itself, even with no device (ipod, iphone) attached. or if working in one windows 7 account, and iTunes is open in another, it keeps attempting to open, and shows an error message, "You cannot open the application "iTunes" because another user has it open." these messages appear about every 30 seconds. how can i stop this from happening?

I am having the very SAME problem using Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit. No iPod is plugged in. I wonder if it has to do with a setting? Maybe remove iTunes from startup? What would be the ramifications of that?
If one user has iTunes running and I switch to MY account, that message will appear and I am NOT trying to run iTunes.

    Hello there, focus48.
First place to start is to isolate the issue. The following Knowledge Base article offers up some great steps to try:
iTunes: Troubleshooting issues with third-party iTunes plug-ins
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3430
There are several ways in which an add-on can cause iTunes to act erratically, such as those listed below:
    - Loss of iTunes functionality, such as the Visualizer.
    - Distortion or irregularity in the iTunes interface.
    - Slow performance.
    - iTunes won't open or quits unexpectedly.
    - You see an alert while syncing stating "... cannot be synced. A duplicate file name was specified."
If you notice any of the above symptoms or other unusual behavior, you can disable any plug-ins not manufactured by Apple by opening iTunes in Safe Mode. This is done by holding down the Option and Command keys (on Mac OS X) or holding down the Shift and Control keys (on Windows) while opening iTunes. If performed correctly, you should see the following dialog before iTunes finishes starting up:
"iTunes is running in Safe Mode. Visual plug-ins you have installed have been temporarily disabled."
If the issue persists, then isolating further by testing in another user account is in order:
Isolating an issue by using another user account
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4053
    Symptoms
When isolating issues and/or troubleshooting software issues in OS X, you might want to use a different user account. Learn how to use this technique to narrow down the cause of an issue.
    Resolution
The issue at hand may simply be caused by a bad preference setting or user-specific data file. With proper isolation, you can avoid time-consuming and inappropriate troubleshooting methods.

  • ITunes keeps attempting to download a particular app when I update other apps via phone store

These errors don't happen all the time, but it happens enough that it's getting rather tiresome to work around it. Both of these problems happen when I am requested to update an app on my phone, or I try to download an app from the store on my phone. I'm not sure if it's two separate problems occuring at the same time, or one big problem with two symptoms.
    Problem 1:
I receive a badge on my App Store that one of my apps requires an update or I want to download a new app. I go to the update tab and click on "Update" or click on "purchase."  The password pop-up appears, but then closes and a new pop-up appears that says "Gif Boom and 22 other apps cannot be downloaded at this time." I click okay to close the notification, then click the button again, whereupon the password box appears, I fill it in and the download proceeds as should be expected.
I haven't had Gifboom on my phone for almost a year, and I have no idea why it's trying to update an app that isn't even on my phone.
    Problem 2:
This occurs in conjunction with the previous problem, but doesn't always happen when the first problem occurs.
I go to download an update or new app, and as the new app or update is installing, a greyed out box for the app Shadow Age appears in the newest slot, labeled as "waiting." I downloaded the Shadow Age app last summer and deleted it after a few weeks. For some reason it keeps trying to redownload it onto my phone when I download an app or update. If I hold down the icon, the little black X doesnt appear. The only way to get rid of it is to reboot the phone.
Neither Gifboom nor Shadow Age are on my computer, so it is not trying to sync it from there. I have autosync turned off in iTunes on my computer, iCloud is turned off on my phone, and Automatic Downloads for Music and Apps is turned off on my phone. There is nothing that I can see that should be requesting my phone to download Gifboom, Shadow Age, or any of these other 22 apps.
Last resort is a backup and system restore as I have quite a few games on my phone that I don't want to lose saved data from, and I don't know if the backup will just backup the error as well.
I have seen similar posts saying that apps keep reappearing when syncing to a computer, but mine are coming from the iTunes store directly onto my phone.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, I did that and it is not listed there. Any other ideas?
You may want to try reorgnizing the iTunes library by clicking File, Library, Organize Library, then check Consolidate files and Upgrade to iTunes Media organization or Reorganize files in the folder iTunes Media.
You can also try re-creating your iTunes library and playlists.
Then delete the app, if it shows up in iTunes or the Mobile Applications folder again.
    WTH.

  • ITunes keeps crashing when opened when external HD plugged in

Please Help, i updated iTunes and now it crashes as soon as i open it saying an error occurs, however if i remove my external hard drive it loads fine BUT all my music is sourced from my external hard drive and has Always been this way... what can i do to fix this as i have an iPhone & iPad that needs iTunes!!! HELP

I have the same issue, iTunes opens fine and I can listen to music but as soon as my iPhone or iPad are plugged in and I try to sync, iTunes immediately shuts down saying an error has occurred.  I have deleted and reinstalled iTunes to the current version 10.6 but any of my devices shuts it down.  I have tried using my devices on a backup drive and they are recognized fine, however if I try to sync on that iTunes everything will be erased off my iPad, iPhone and iPod and I have no music or apps there.

  • ITunes Keeps Crashing Upon Opening

I'm running iTunes on my Dell Laptop with Windows XP. Since I downloaded the last patch from a week or so ago, each and every time I boot up iTunes, it loads the interface then promptly crashes stating "The instruction at '0x009102eb' referenced memory at '0x00000007'. The memory could not be 'written'."
I have been anxiously awaiting a new patch hoping that would fix the problem, but thus far, no luck.

+Nope, the only things I've put onto my iPod is about a gig and a half of music and half a gig of pictures. Only programs/plugins on it are the three games that came with the iPod itself.+
Hmmmm. Okay, let's see if we can narrow this down a bit further.
Let's try an experiment. (It's not a cure, we're just trying to work out if this is a systemwide crash or if it's associated with a specific XP user account on the PC.)
Head into your user accounts control panel and create a new user account with full administrative rights. (There's help documentation on how to do that at the left of the control panel screen.) While you're in that control panel, switch off "fast user switching" in your logging-on preferences.
Now log out of the old account and log into the new account
Launch iTunes. Eventually, you'll be presented with a blank library screen. (That's normal ... your music is off in the other account.)
Try plugging in the nano now. *If iTunes doesn't crash, do not associate the nano with the blank library.*
Does connecting the nano crash iTunes in the new user account?

  • ITunes 7 won't open.

After installing the latest version of iTunes and attempting to open it, I recieve this error message:
The iTunes application could not be opened. An unknown error occured (-200.)
Has anyone else encountered this problem and if so, how did you fix it? It is very important that I get iTunes 7 to work. I tried installing an older version, and my library is now in 7 format and unreadable. I do not have a copy of my library before 7, and I would rather not have to rip my entire library again.
    Thanks.

  • Itunes crashes every time i attempt to open it

everytime i attempt to open itunes it crashes. ive tried every mmethod i could find including the new user acount and all of the other wide troubleshooting methods reccomended by apple. help please?

Perfect! We know what's going on now.
An exception occured while trying to run "C:\WINDOWS\system32\shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL "C:\WINDOWS\system32\QuickTime.cpl",QuckTime"
Some other program (codec packs and video converters are the usual culprits) has stashed old quicktime componentry down in your system32 directory. When you try to open iTunes or QuickTime, Windows "sees" that old componentry and tries to use it ... and everything turns to custard, because it isn't compatible with the newer componentry in the proper places.
Lets doublecheck to see what you've got down there.
Open "My Computer". Go "Tools > Folder Options" and click the "View tab". Make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is selected, and "Hide extensions for known file types is unchecked". OK out of the Tab.
Now open your C:\Windows\system32\ directory. What files and folders with QuickTime in the file/folder-name can you see in there?
(In a standard QuickTime installation, you should see precisely two files, QuickTime.qts and QuickTimeVR.qtx, and no QuickTime folders whatsoever.)

  • I attempted to perform the itunes update on two different PCs and itunes will no longer open and I received a message to reinstall itunes. The reinstall did not work and I now receive a Runtime error message (R6034) re: library loading incorrectly. Help?

I attempted to perform the itunes update on two different PCs. Itunes will no longer open and prompted me to reinstall itunes.  The reinstall did not work after several attempts and I received an error: "Runtime error R6034. An application has made an attempt to load the C Runtime library incorrectly. Please contact the application's support team for more information."  Has anyone else had this issue? How can I resolve it?

I've been having the same exact problem this morning, and from the looks of it a lot of other people are posting about this issue, so I don't know if it's maybe something wrong with the download but I'm just relieved that it seems to be that instead of a corruption issue with my windows installation.  I'm just wondering how long this will take to be resolved.
