ITunes keeps changing my settings

I have 109 books on my iPAD Air and I have iTunes set to "Sync all Books". But, every time I connect the iPAD to iTunes the settings change on their own to "Selected Books" and 81 of my books are erased from my iPAD. Then I have to change the setting back to "Sync all Books" and put them back on. Can someone please explain why the settings keep changing on their own? It's driving me mad! Steve C

Welcome to the Apple Community.
Contact Apple through iTunes Store Support, and explain that you have forgotten your 3 security questions, that you can reset your password, but doing so doesn't reset your security questions.
Explain that after resetting your password, you are still asked for the answers you have forgotten, before you can gain access to My Apple ID > Manage your account > Password & security, which is where you need to be to change your answers.
Remember, support will receive hundreds, if not thousands of requests per day, some from people trying it on, others with little explanation and others that are written extremely poorly. Take the time to explain your situation properly, be precise and concise, brief but comprehensive.

    Hi dfrost10,
I wouldn't be surprised if you were hit with some [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Is%20my%20Firefox%20problem%20a%20result%20of%20malware?s=malware&r=0&e=sph&as=s#w_how-do-i-get-rid-of-malware Malware]. I'd probably investigate that first.
If that isn't the case, you should take a look at the Knowledge Base article [[How to set the home page]]. Your homepage might have been changed by a particular site. Sites like MSN, Yahoo, etc have been know to ask to become your homepage.
There are steps in that article to reset your homepage preferences to default. I would try that first to clear out any strangeness. If that works, you can try setting your homepage again to your personal preference.
If that doesn't work you should look at the article [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Preferences_not_saved Preferences not saved].
    Hopefully this helps!

  • After latest update, Itunes will not open unless I allow itunes to change screen settings on my laptop. How do I stop this?

I have upgraded to the new version of Itunes 11.1 and everytime I try to open it it asks me to allow changes to be made to my computer. If i click yes it changes my screen size to 64bit so I cant see half the page. If i change the settings back to normal it works until shut down itunes and the reverts back to odd settings. If i click no it will not open at all. Ive tried uninstalling and reinstalling but same thing keeps happening. Can anyone help me please?

Is iTunes endlessly saying "Accessing iTunes Store"? Or is something a bit different going on?

  • Songs in itunes keep changing information.

It generally happens after I play them, they'll revert back to their original info. It tends to be MP3s downloaded from Vuze, but it is happening to a few AAC files too (including ones from CDs). I've tried converting ID3 tags but they keep changing back, tried changing the info in windows explorer but still seems to change back. There's one album that I've changed enough times that it has stayed the same, could it be a case of doing that (seems incredibly long winded. It's taken me long enough to get through half the tracks let alone think of doing them all several times over). If anyone could suggest anything that would be awesome, thanks.

  • Absolutely Furious that iTunes Keeps Changing details

I am using iTunes 12.0.1.26 on Windows 7.
I am absolutely furious with iTunes at the moment, I have tried all the answers I have seen online (turn off Sharing Library with iTunes and keping iTunes Media Folder Organised).
However, after sitting all weekend and twice going through genres and other information I have amended to make music easier to find, iTunes has still changed some of them back!
How is Bessie Smith, with Blues/Jazz songs recorded in the 30's classed as Dance Music? (I have twice now changed these songs to show they were recorded in the 30's and they should be in my genre Old Jazz), whenever I go into change the details (again for an individual track) I simply have to right click and "Get Info" and the data changes back again, this also happens if the track is played.
However, then when I exit itunes, or sometimes even switch views within iTunes the details change back to what iTunes wants them to be.
Will someone please help with this it is driving me mad. Especially after I have spent so long painstakingly organising my library of over 14,000 tracks.

To avoid metadata reverting to that downloaded from the Store (for Store purchases and if you have iTunes Match), you need to make sure that both these options in Edit > Preferences > Store are unchecked:
You'll need to exit and restart iTunes for changes to take effect.

  • ITunes keeps changing to the default folder location

I have no idea what's going on here, but, it's getting very frustrating.
Here's the situation: I am running the latest version of iTunes (11.whatever) on Windows 7, and my default iTunes Library location is in My Music on my C:. Unfortunately, my C: is a tiny SSD, and I don't want all of my content going in there, since there's no room. I have two other internal hard drives that I use for file storage, and I want to relocate my library to one of these drives. These drives are not external, they are not networked, they are just regular, plain old drives that boot along with the computer.
I have tried following the instructions here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1449
But, I had no luck with it. When I follow these steps, I open up iTunes, I turn on the "Keep iTunes Organized" option as stated, then press OK. Then I change the file location (in Advanced, under Preferences) to the place I want the library to reside, on a different drive. After pressing OK, I go to File, Library, and choose Organize Library (checking off the "Consolidate Files" option). After this completes, I try to delete the original iTunes library in My Music on C:, but, it won't let me, telling me the file is still in use. After closing iTunes, I am able to deleted it. Then, when I open iTunes again, it just completely ignores the folder that I created and moved everything to, makes a new folder in My Music, and goes back to default settings like nothing ever happened.
I've seen a lot of people complaining about this problem when trying to set up their libraries on networked or external drives, but, that is not my issue. Any help would be appreciated, and please let me know if I can provide any more information.
    Thanks!

    Hi
First post so do not shoot me down if I break some rule here but as I was getting the same issue, V Frustrating i know, I thought I would post my solution.
Felix, above pointed me in the right direction but I did this
After following the steps from Dr Von Smith I closed iTunes
Went to the old C drive location
    Moved the
    iTunes Library Extras.itdb
    iTunes Library Genius.itdb
    iTunes Library.itl
    iTunes Library.xml
    iTunes Music Library.xml
    and the Album Artwork
to the new location on my D drive
Held shift and clicked on iTunes icon
it asked me for library location so I pointed it to the new location on D
    Closed iTunes
Opened iTunes nomally and the Preferences > Advanced > location has held
Time will tell but at least it seems to be sticking now....

  • ICloud keeps changing system settings

    Hi all,
Sing moving to Mavericks, I have noticed that there are miscellaneous settings being reset by iCloud. For example, if "Documents and Data" is checked, I get all my text shortcuts i use on my iPhone on my Mac. hOwever, it cheeks changing the Finder's view settings, so that it orders things by date instead of name, and it keeps bringing back iTunes Helper and dropbox, no matter how many times I delete them from my login items.
At least, I am assuming that it is iCloud doing this. It is similar to starting to write a note or an iCal entry, and then the update to iCloud erases the note that I had open.
I really don't want to go through and work out all my shortcuts. Not because I'm lazy, but because this should just work. However, the frustration of navigating the Finder when all the columns reorder themselves as I am browsing is a headache.
So my question is this: What OSX settings are stored by iCloud? I want to know the list of unmentioned settings that are synced, so I can note the settings as they are, remove iCloud sync for Documents and Data, and then reset all my settings.
I should mention I don't have any documents that upload to iCloud under Documents and Data.
Thanks for your time and help!
    Regards, Kieran

Hi Diane, thanks for your reply!
I am interested in turning it off, but I would like to know what settings are synced first. There are quite a few bizarre problems in Mavericks, and as my professional bread and butter software takes almost a year to update to Apple's notorious fast paced update cycle, I will be stuck with Mavericks for a while, so I am keep to find out (and understand) rather than disable the parts of the software that don't make sense.
Concerning the view settings, it might simply be that the way they operate in Mavericks is different from Mountain Lion, because of the tags. The problem is that I set (for example) the Application folder to arrange by name and sort by kind, while every other folder is set to arrange by kind and sort by tags (I use column view by the way). I have found that the application folder won't stay arranged by kind, it changed to tags too. But further, even when in tags, things are subsorted by name. While browsing in column view it automatically changes to date modified, and if I open another window and then go back, it remembers what it is supposed to do. It seems to be that rather than remember the settings per folder, either it reorders the folder when opened, or it gets permission to view from somewhere that updates the preference, which is why I assume iCloud has its hand in it. It has the same feel as when iCloud updates a note I am working on, or a contact and wipes the changes I have made.
When I first set up my account and linked it to my Apple ID, Documents and Data was turned on. The Keyboards>Text system preferences miraculously recalled all my shortcuts/text replacements. I turned off Documents and Data in iCloud and these disappeared. When I logged out and logged back in, Documents and Data had switched itself back on. I left it, and now I want to know all the preferences it has its sticky fingers in. I don't wish to guess or discover why something isn't working the way I expect, based on my experience with Mountain Lion. It is hard to find an explicit list of the details, and it seems to be strange that operating systems need to be dealt with by trial and error, rather than reading the relevant document.

  • ITunes keeps changing id3 tags automatically

Seems to happen after being in the store.
consistently changes certain information. Windows 8.1. Ive removed media player and media center so that is not the issue.....

In iTunes go to Edit > Preferences > Store and turn off
Show iTunes in the Cloud purchases
Share details about your library with Apple
On any iOS device go to Settings > Music and turn off
    Show All Music
Close and reopen iTunes and/or reset the device and you should see your version of the metadata for each track rather than the original store data.

  • Moved media to TC. Now itunes keeps changing default library location

I realize this might be better suited in the iTunes discussion forum however...
I recently purchased a time capsule and moved all my media to the new drive. I changed the default library location in preferences. Problem is, every time I quit and relaunch iTunes, the default library location reverts back to my old location on my mac. Any ideas how I can get iTunes to remember my new default location? It's as if it's picking up a location file somewhere that is telling it to create a new library on my mac's hard drive.
    Thanks for any input.

I don't have a TC but I also keep my iTunes library on an external Firewire drive and the following is the behaviour. Maybe it's so for you too:
    • When the firewire drive is mounted on the desktop and I open iTunes, iTunes will link back to the library on the firewire drive.
    • When the firewire drive is unmounted and I open iTunes, iTunes preferences will revert the library to default back to the internet drive.
    • BUT, when I remount the firewire drive, and open iTunes again (after it's been closed), iTunes preferences will automatically go back to linking the library on the firewire drive.
So in short: when unmounted, iTunes links music library to the original default which is the internal drive. When mounted, iTunes will automatically relink music back to the firewire drive.
Does it work like so for iTunes on Time Capsule?

  • ITunes Keeps Changing My Song Info

Forgive me if this is an easy fix (of which I hope it is). On my father's laptop it seems like every Wednesday iTunes updates his song library which causes any information he changed to revert back to where it was originally. For example, he has bought individual songs from four separate Elton John albums but condenses them into one custom album that he created. He makes sure all the sorting options match that of his custom album information, but come Wednesday those songs are automatically modified to revert back to their previous settings.
Another example is that I gifted him The Tragically Hip's "Now for Plan A" album, but the bonus track edition. The default name of the album is "Now for Plan A (Bonus Track Edition)." He will customize the album to rid away the Bonus Track part and just leave the rest as is. He does this both for Album and Sort Album for all songs involved. Come Wednesday it will revert it back to the Bonus Track Edition.
Is there a setting I am missing to turn this off? I don't recall having similar issues on my personal iTunes account on a separate computer. He uses Windows, I use OSX.
    Thanks for any help.

In iTunes go to Edit > Preferences > Store and turn off
Show iTunes in the Cloud purchases
Share details about your library with Apple
On any iOS device go to Settings > Music and turn off
    Show All Music

  • ITunes keeps changing file locations to something wrong when syncing

I have my music stored on a Synology DS409 NAS which is mounted using afp as /Volumes/music. I also have another mount from the same NAS as /Volumes/photo. Whenever I try syncing my iPhone or an iPod, I get errors about some files not syncing because they could not be played.
On looking at some of these files in iTunes using Get Info, the location has been changed from its original (correct) /Volumes/music/xx to some random picture file under /Volumes/photo/xx
I know the original file was correct because I've checked the iTunes Library xml file for any occurrence of "photo" and found none before syncing. I can manually fix the errors by deleting them items from iTunes and re-adding them, but I then get more errors on different files when syncing next.
I used to have the iTunes server feature turned on on the Synology DS409, but I've turned that off now. I wondered whether it was down to the /Volumes/music file system disappearing occasionally (another issue!) but it has happened even when the music folder is mounted. Very frustrating!
As a last resort, I could copy the music on to the local disk in my iMac, but that defeats the point of the NAS really. It should work.
    Hope someone can help.
    Thanks

Click the icon to start iTunes and immediately press and continue to hold down the SHIFT key. This dialog should appear:
If iTunes opens normally close it and try again. Use Choose Libraray... to open the copy of your library on the external drive. Check the location of the media folder once opened. You can now remove the iTunes folder on C: without it reappearing.

  • My Itunes keeps changing the drive I store files on to C:, But I want it on another drive

I am trying to move my Itunes Library to a different drive on my computer.  I even uninstalled and reinstalled Itunes onto another drive on my computer.  However no matter how I set it up, the songs and videos etc keep getting saved on C: not the drive I designate for it.
So I have 4.5 GB of data on itunes that should be on a different drive.
I can't upload any more music or anything until I move it to a different drive.
I've searched the internet High and Low and have not been able to find a solution that works.

No, an external drive will not always be mounted. If the drive goes to sleep, it can unmount, or it may unmount for other reasons. As Chris said, confim that the drive is mounted and active before launching iTunes.
    Regards.

  • HELP iTunes Keep Changing Track Information

I'm having a really big issue. I finally took the plunge and decided to properly label and categorize all my music. I spent almost a month, 3-4 hours a day, getting all the album art, correcting all the information, etc on 4,000+ songs. At the end I was SO pleased. However this past week I started to notice something was wrong. The names of of some tracks were changing back to their old names, also in the comments field I hate reading all the crap people write in their so I cleared it all out, now it's coming back too! What's going on! Can anyone help me make it so whatever I change the tracks info to it sticks?

Go into Windows Media Player and turn off all automatic updating of info.
Tools -> Options -> Library -> Automatic media information updates for files.
Note that the tags have already been changed by WMP and when you play them in iTunes, the info will change to match the tags that WMP has already changed.
You will need to update the tags to get the correct info which WMP deleted/changed.

You can't.  You have to make sure the external drive is mounted first.  If you forget, restart iTunes with the option key held down.

I have digital voice and someone keeps changing my settings on the services I have. Is this your programmers or someone who is making changes?
Example: I have simultaneous ring turned on for my home office line and somehow it keeps getting turned off without me logging in.
Please fix this or I will have to seek better service.

If you have invested a lot of money into your computer system etc, I suggest that you take it to a dealer like Comp USA, Best Buy, C.City etc. It’s possible that you have many issues affecting your computer operation.
To my knowledge there are no known issues with Itunes that causes the problem's you mention!
I don’t think this is the best forum or Itunes catagory to resolve what could be complex computer problems.
That’s why when you purchase the computer you should have a warranty and or Technical Support included for issues you may have.
The reason I mention Virus is because you have to start somewhere, and with the little info you gave out, that’s where I thought you should start.
To Contact Apple Tech-Support call – 1800-275-2273. Good Luck!!!
