ITunes KEEPS DELETING PODCASTS!!!!

What the **** is wrong with iTunes? I have set it to never delete a podcast, and yet it still keeps doing something with the files as they start showing up as missing. This really makes me mad.

I don't know if this has anything to do with it or not, but when you control click on the Podcast, does it have a selection for "allow auto delete" or do you see "do not auto delete"? As I said, I don't know if will do the trick, but I noticed it there only on Podcasts and the Podcast's files (not on regular music files.) It seems logical that it is there as an override to the preference for individual Podcasts, so they don't "all" delete by rule of the preference. I switched one of mine to "allow auto delete and nothing deleted after quitting and restarting iTunes, but it may take a day or so I don't know. I am interested in your response to see if this is the case.

  • ITunes automatically deleted Podcast file location?

    Hello,
I recently had an interesting situation that I can't seem to solve so I thought I'd turn to the community for help.  I currently subscribe to a particuar podcast and have the iTunes settings configured to ONLY keep the two most recent episodes before iTunes automatically deletes older episodes. Everything was going smoothly until this week when I realized that I actually wanted to keep an episode that was automatically downloaded (the episode that was deleted was deleted today and I started serching for it today).
The simple answer would be for me to just re-download the episode that iTunes automatically deleted...but that is not possible.  Unfortunately, the episode that I was saving is no longer available so I can't re-download it (yes, an episode from three weeks ago is no long available to download because the podcaster changed the episode and re-uploaded a new shorter episode in it's place).  After checking the trash, I noticed the file wasn't there so I turned to a file recovery program (Disk Drill).  After running the utility, I was able to locate all of the podcasts that I had manually deleted, but the podcast episodes that iTunes automatically removed (due to the settings I put in place) are not included in the list of files.
I'm assuming that iTunes must delete the files in some other method, but if that's the case, the files have to go somewhere, right?  Any ideas on where these files may be located...or any thoughts on how to recover the podcast episode?
Thanks to anyone for any assistance or thoughts.
    T.J.

Thanks, Jeremy292.  I was looking for a word and didn't notice the icon.

  • Why does iTunes keep deleting music from off my iPhone

Ok so my music from iphone keeps deleting itself. I keep having to restore this dumb phone only to lose my information days and sometimes hours later. This is the final straw for me. I've restored this phone 20 times in a week! Im tired of dealing with all of these technical issues so when my contract is up I'm done with this thing. Is there ANYTHING I can do in the meantime to keep from losing my music.

I'll continue the discussion. I find the item in question. There was an app that I had deleted from my iTunes but was still on my iPhone dspite numerous syncs. I deleted the separately from my iPhone and no longer received the warning message described above.
Now however, when I delate an app in iTunes not only does the app stay on the iPhone but I do not even get the warning message.
My next step is to perform a restore. Perhaps this will clear up both this problem and a series of other issues like the wi-fi on/off randomly greying out on the iPhone and having all of my music on the iPhone disappearing after a sync.

  • ITunes keeps deleting my library

When I launch iTunes i get an error stating that my iTunes library is damaged and then deletes all my movies, music and podcasts from the library. If I plug my ipod in iTunes then deletes everything from it. This is driving me to insanity!!! Can anyone help?

I've just reloaded everything onto the library and imported a couple of new CD's without a problem so it's certainly not every time I try.
Have called a mate who's a system's man so he's going to have a look at the PC itself tomorrow or Tuesay. If it's a problem with the PC he should be able to sort it, if not we'll have to look at iTunes again. Either way I'll post here in a couple of days and let you know mate.
    Cheers

  • ITunes is deleting podcast files when I don't want it to.

I installed the latest version of iTunes and set my podcast settings to only dowload podcasts from the last week (since it was trying to download podcast files that I had previously listened to, then deleted), and delete podcasts was set to off.
Now, all of the sudden, it is deleting podcast files that are 1) older than a week and 2) dowloaded with the new iTunes.
I want to go back to the old iTunes behaviour of downloading only the most recent podcast (unless it has been previously downloaded) and only deleting files if done manually!

I have to agree. I've been using iTunes/iPods exclusively for listening to podcasts since 2008, and within the past year it's just gotten increasingly frustrating and confusing to use both iTunes and my iPod for this purpose. I just found this thread because my iPod auto-deleted a podcast that I'd only listened to for 10 minutes; and I don't want it to ever delete podcasts without my consent. Truly infuriating.

  • ITunes 11 deleted podcasts

So iTunes 11 deleted hundreds of podcasts due to the bug discussed in detail at https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5324634?start=0&tstart=0
Apple supposedly fixed this issue (see http://www.macobserver.com/tmo/article/apple-releases-itunes-11.1.1-to-fix-delet ed-podcasts-problem-with-itunes-ex ), but there has been no statement from them about this bug. Some of these episodes are no longer available, and even if they were, it puts undue strain on the podcast to have their listeners re-download hundreds of gigabytes. Bandwidth isn't cheap (well, audo bandwidth isn't cheap, anyway).
This was a major bug that no large media irganizations are covering, but they should. This bug deleted hundreds or even thousands of files on users' machines, and if you didn't have a backup, they're gone; many are no longer downloadable.
I am not a happy camper and needed to vent a little. Bottom line: backup your data, as even Apple can no longer be trusted. They should at least apologize.

  • ITunes keeps deleting all info, now can't restore from Time Machine because there is not enough memory?

I have had this reaccuring problem where my iTunes will whipe out all the info in it. No reason as this is a standard Mac with the intel processors. The only upgrade I have done is to get it to Lion 10.8.whatever. The past several times this has happened, I've been able to restore the entire iTunes file from the 1TB external drive I use only for Time Machine. After it whiped out iTunes again last night, it would not let me restore and kept giving me a message that said I did not have enough start-up memory. I went in and deleted a bunch of old videos and it still kept giving me the memory message. I was able to break down some of the files into smaller portions (i.e. apps A-G, then H-M, etc) but could not get any of the actual music to transfer over. I deleted iTunes and reinstalled it to no avail. I have over 30,000 songs, 200+ music videos, a couple dozen movies, and several seasons of TV shows in my iTunes.
Any and all assistance would be appreciated!

DocDoc, that worked. I read that page and it meantioned how to exactly click what. I'm not sure why TM is so particular, but nevertheless, I was able to open a finder window pre-TM, click on my new hard drive. Then I opened TM and again, clicked on my hard drive in that finder window. Then navigated to the folder I wanted, which was the applications folder.
The "now" image wouldn't do anything when right clicked (on aperture.app) except offer to get info or to delete all backups of aperture. I almost gave up, figuring the purpled out timeline (as previous) on TM was bunk. I couldn't go backwards to a previous image before.
But having navigated that exact way somehow made TM happy. A previous image about 1 month ago was able to be saved to my application folder. 986megs or something like that in a few seconds. When TB works, it zips right along.
I don't care for how persnickety TM is, but am glad it worked nevertheless. Thanks for your help.

  • ITunes keeps deleting my library on closure (NOT VAIO)

Let me start off by saying, iTunes honestly blows. Really wish I could sync my phone without the use of this garbage software...
Now that that's out of the way. I'm running 64-bit itunes 10.4.xx and import my music file only to have it delete everything every time I close my itunes. I have itunes set as an exception on my antivirus so that's not the issue. I just give up, it did this to me when I had 32 bit also. Which crashed ALL THE TIME.
Somebody help, I'm so done trying to troubleshoot.

If turning off continuous backup didn't fixt it, then something else is interfering with iTunes saving the library when it closes.
Antivirus software has done this in the past although not recently.
Music software on the Sony Vaio can do it, but suspect any music software that may access the iTunes library.
If necessary, you can use MSConfig to do a selective startup to identify the problem, but this is a bit of a pain.

  • ITunes keep deleting my track numbers

For some reason several of my albums are losing there track numbers along with other id3 info. Why?

    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping.  Note that in iTunes 11 an "empty" library may show your past purchases with links to stream or download them.
In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
Alternatively, depending on exactly when and why the library went missing, there may be a more recent .tmp file in the main iTunes folder that can be renamed as iTunes Library.itl to restore the library to a recent state.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library, or a backup of it, then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.
I've noticed more of these missing library posts of late and a common factor to most since I started asking is AVG Anti-Virus. It seems in some cases it might be at least part of the reason why the library file disappears. Try excluding the iTunes folder from any AV scanning process.

  • Itunes keeps deleting my music and videos every time I add something new and it updates.  It only keeps purchased items.

But it says it's still got those files.  But then, every time I click on the files it gives me this.
Despite the fact that those files are already in my itunes library.  What gives?  Is it a bug?  Do I need to remove itunes and install it again or would that not help?

I am having the same issue now for the past week.Whenever I add new music it completely wipes out the previously added songs on the iphone. It is extremely frustrating.

  • Unavoidable modal dialog when deleting podcasts

Every time I select a podcast in the iTunes library and delete it, I am presented with an unavoidable dialog which states:
+Do you want to move the selected podcast to the Trash, or keep it in the iTunes Music folder?+
There are three buttons: cancel, keep file, and move to trash. Unfortunately, this dialog seems to violate standard Apple user interface guidelines in that there is no "don't show again" or similar check box to suppress this dialog. Also, no matter what option the user selects, the deleted file cannot be permanently lost until something like empty trash is performed from the Finder. So this unavoidable dialog isn't even serving as a safety measure against accidental deletion.
I would really like to find a way to suppress this dialog. I transfer podcasts to my ipod mini on a daily basis, so the constant appearance of the dialog is quite tiresome. I even tried to see if there was an undocumented shift key modifier such as cmd+del or option+del that would bring up a more advanced dialog or quietly delete the podcast, but no luck. Unless anyone is aware of a way within iTunes to delete podcasts without the dialog, I would like to suggest that this feature be implemented in a future iTunes release.
    Thanks.

I don't know how it happened but my dialog box disappeared and when I delete tracks they all remain in the root folder.

  • ITunes combined two podcast subscription lists

We have always  maintained two machines (one mac one pc) with iTunes keeping separate podcast subscriptions but  linked libraries for music.  11.1 decided to download all subscribed podcasts on both machines to both machines.  Our tastes diverge on podcasts so keeping them separate is a good idea.
I'm guessing we are stuck with this but what is the best strategy to deal with separating the two lists?  The best option I have so far would be
his and hers playlists If the my stations list actually functions as a play list....  On the up side I can now just put a big harddrive in a NAS on the network and be done with duelling libraries.

Well, I hear your response, and it confirms what I understand about the issue. I'm trying to understand how it's "Not allowed." Usually Not Allowed would preface a rule to prevent some sort of disorder. However it seems that moving something as simple as a url subscription from the ipod to an itunes program would be a simple matter and would not require any code of ethics.
Now it may be that it has yet to be part of the itunes program, but it certainly should be, or perhaps there is some sort of work-around.
You see, on my computer with the latest subscriptions, iTunes does not properly sync the podcasts for which I have subscriptions, but just 'renews' al;l the podcasts I have already listened to, and my older subscriptions iTunes seems to function a little better for whatever reason.

  • Itunes 8 deleting the .itl file

My itunes keeps deleting the .itl file, erasing all of itunes knowledge of where my music is, playlists, etc. I tried to downgrade my itunes, my i need the current version for my ipod. If I reimport my library, it will create the file but deletes it when I reboot my computer, if not sooner. Does anyone know why this is happening or how to fix it?
Note: the actual music files are still in the default Itunes folder. None are ever deleted or altered.

This is the iTunes for MAc forum and your signature shows VGN-CS215J, which happens to be a Sony VAIO (Windows PC).
Sony VAIO services kindly deletes iTunes files.
Go task manager/services/services/ find VAIO content folder watch/right click/stop/right click/properties/ change it from automatic to manual.
Also check Control Panel -> Vaio Content Analyzer Settings.
On the Music tab, uncheck "Analyze Music Files" and at the bottom uncheck your music folder.

  • Deleted podcasts return when syncing with itunes

My podcasts sync perfectly from itunes to my ipad & iphone.  However, when i listen to an individual podcast or delete the entire subscription from either my ipad or iphone i have aproblem.  They are deleted from my device but when i next sync with my itunes on my pc, all the deleted podcasts or subscriptions are put back on my device.  I want them to be deleted from my Itunes not put back on my device.  Obviously i dont want them any more.  When I delete an app from my device, it is deleted from my itunes library for that device. I know it is still in itunes if i need it but itunes doesnt keep putting it back on my device.  How can I get podcasts to either act the same way as the apps do, or get itunes to actually delete the podcasts i have deleted from my device??

Are you using the "Podcasts" app on your device?  If so, then that app manages all your podcasts locally on your device.
If you aren't using the Podcasts app on your device, then your podcasts will be managed by iTunes, and updates downloaded to your device whenever your sync it with iTunes.  Deleting an episide on your device will temporarily get you space back on your device, which might be helpful temporarily in case you need the space for something.  The next time you sync, iTunes will repopulate any episides that are missing from your device, unless you've marked them as played already, or otherwise changed something in iTunes to prevent them from copying back to your device again (delete them, take them out of whatever smart playlist you are using to send podcasts to your device, etc.).
